Many Trekkies will be able to tell you that the first two seasons of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" were somewhat rocky. The story goes that, during those first two years, show creator Gene Roddenberry wanted to assert total control over the series, a reaction to his having been booted from the "Star Trek" feature films several years before. Roddenberry, however, butted heads with other producers on "Next Generation." It seems that he and other producers were re-writing scripts at the last minute, with Gene's personal lawyer, Leonard Maizlish, sometimes writings drafts in secret. Roddenberry was also hellbent on enforcing a strict narrative rule forbidding interpersonal conflict between the show's main characters. The show's other writers hated this rule, as interpersonal conflict, they felt, was the fastest path to drama and story.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" was, by all measures, far more successful than the original "Star Trek" that preceded it. The original series wasn't a big hit when it first aired in 1966, and didn't become popular until Trekkies discovered it in reruns in the mid-1970s. By the mid-1980s, the series not only had a passionate following, but several hit "Star Trek" feature films had been made, ensuring that the franchise was long-lasting and widely celebrated. Creator Gene Roddenberry, wanting a project he could more closely oversee, launched the first spinoff "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1987, fast-forwarding the timeline of the franchise by about a century. The new show featured a new cast of characters, a new ship, and a new tone. This was, by Roddenberry's orders, to be even more diplomatic and peaceful than even the original show.

Star Trek: Enterprise's finale, "These are the Voyages...," is probably the least-liked of all Star Trek intentional finales. I say intentional because Star Trek: The Original Series ended with "Turnabout Intruder," which wasn't set up to be a series finale. Since Enterprise ended in 2005, the finale has been villified, and most Star Trek fans refuse to watch it. That makes sense. If you dislike the episode, you dislike the episode. And most people wonder what the producers were thinking to have the series go out on a note like that.
In an interview with CinemaBlend, John Billingsley, who played Dr. Phlox on Enterprise, looked at the finale from a different point of view. While it was supposed to wrap up the series, many of the crew that had been working on Enterprise had also been working on Star Trek since The Next Generation. So they had a seventeen-year history...

Actress Patti Yasutake, best known to Trekkies as Nurse Alyssa Ogawa, died on August 5, 2024, of a rare type of T-cell lymphoma. She was 70 years old.
Nurse Ogawa first appeared on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in the episode "Future Imperfect" more or less as a background character. She was one of Dr. Crusher's retinue of medical staff, there to give viewers the impression that the ship's sickbay was constantly bustling. She went on to star in 14 additional episodes of the show, and was usually merely standing next to Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden), passing her tools or saying "Yes, Doctor." She had a good bedside manner, and her repeated appearances had viewers wondering who she was and what her story might be. As the series progressed, Nurse Ogawa's role expanded incrementally, eventually leading to her becoming a legitimate supporting player.

The fifth and final season of "Star Trek: Discovery" aired on May 30, 2024, marking the end of an era. "Discovery" was the "Star Trek" series that launched CBS All Access back in 2017, signaling the return of the franchise to TV after a 12-year hiatus. It also was the first of six new "Star Trek" shows that were to run simultaneously on the service; "Discovery" soon shared time with "Short Treks," "Star Trek: Picard," "Star Trek: Lower Decks," "Star Trek: Prodigy," and "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds." There were grand plans afoot to add "Starfleet Academy" and "Section 31" to that roster, making "Star Trek" constant and ubiquitous.
Thanks to the caprices of the Streaming Wars, however, the expensive all-growth-all-the-time model proved to be untenable, and many of the above shows came to an end. As of this writing, only "Lower Decks" and "Strange New Worlds" are returning, while "Section 31" was shortened to a single TV movie.

The busiest time in "Star Trek" history was likely the two-year stretch from 1993 to 1995. In January 1993, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" debuted, running alongside the sixth and seventh seasons of the already-popular "Star Trek: The Next Generation." In May 1994, "Next Generation" came to an end with a two-part finale, perhaps one of the best episodes of the series. As soon as that was done, shooting almost immediately began on "Star Trek: Generations," and production was so quick that it hit theaters in November of that same year. And, because resting appears to be anathema, the new series "Star Trek: Voyager" debuted in January 1995.
In two years, the franchise churned out 98 episodes and a feature film.
When making "Generations," however, everyone was in the thick of it. The writers, actors, and all the rest were working overtime to shift from the finale of "NextGen" into a large-scale movie. If that wasn't enough hard work,...

Fallout 4 community disappointed by the unnecessary Next-Gen patch that broke popular mods and rendered the game unplayable for many. Fallout London, the most exciting conversion mod for Fallout 4, just dropped a major development update and while it may not be much to chew on, it will no doubt satisfy fans disappointed by the recent delay. “Hallelujah,” was the message from BFI Filmmaking Fund director Mia Bays as she took to the stage at Glasgow Film Festival on March 7, to celebrate the next generation of UK talent.
“[Representation] has transformed over the past few years,” said Bays, who pointed towards the post-Times Up and MeToo movements and the impact of BFI’s diversity and inclusion targets as part of what has helped drive the opportunity for new voices to break through.
“One of my favourite terms is ‘opportunity hoarding’. There are lots of people who just sat on those opportunities, who have kept them. All of those conversations have led to this.

When "Star Trek" first aired in the late 1960s, it wasn't an overwhelmingly popular hit. When the show was canceled in 1969, it was put into eternal syndication, and it wouldn't be until the mid-1970s that Trekkies would begin to appear in earnest. "Star Trek" conventions started to pop up in hotel ballrooms across the nation, and "Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry would occasionally appear at said conventions to discuss his creation with his many fans.
It was during these conversations, really, that Roddenberry began to mentally highlight the messages he put into "Star Trek." Fans, he saw, were responding to Trek's depiction of a world without war and money, a world where diplomacy and exploration took precedence over conquest and acquisition. Many loved the show's diversity.

The final episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," called "All Good Things..." saw Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) becoming unstuck in time, very similar to what happened in Kurt Vonnegut's novel "Slaughterhouse-Five." Picard finds himself in his present, but frequently traveling uncontrollably to a point seven years in his past, just before the first episode of "Next Generation." Then, just as uncontrollably, Picard would be thrown several decades into his future, now a bearded old man wrestling with a brain ailment. Picard's time jumps, it seems, are a test of Q (John De Lancie), the trickster god intent on gauging humanity's moral worthiness for space travel.
The future sequences would likely be most fascinating to Trekkies. Where would the "NextGen" characters be in several decades? Would the Enterprise-d still be in use? Would their careers change? Would the show's main characters remain friends or drift apart? As it so happens,...

The series finale of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was called "All Good Things..." and it aired as a two-hour special event on May 23, 1994. The story followed Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) as he found himself uncontrollably skipping between three time periods. In one time period, it was merely his present, and he investigated his temporal mystery as he would on any other episode of the series. In the second, he was hurled back in time seven years to when the Enterprise-d was just beginning its first mission. In the third timeline, Picard was in his own future, now an old man suffering from a rare brain disease.
The "time skips" were seemingly orchestrated by the trickster god Q (John De Lancie) whose impishness caused Picard to accidentally create -- in all three timelines simultaneously -- a spatial cloud that got larger and larger the further backward in time it traveled.

Ask any Trekkie, and they'll happily describe the arc of the three "Star Trek" shows that came to ascend in the 1990s. In the cases of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager," the shows started on their rockiest, least interesting seasons as they found their footing. All three shows showed growth during their second seasons but were still staggering to their feet. For the third, fourth, and fifth seasons, the shows had hit their stride, turning out the most interesting stories and exploring exciting new arcs. The sixth and seventh seasons, meanwhile, showed signs of fatigue, and the final episodes of each show proved to be a little rocky.
As of this writing, no "Star Trek" show has lasted as long as those three. "Star Trek: Discovery" will end after its fifth season next year, and no one was more sharply aware...

Actor Jonathan Frakes' directorial debut on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was for the third season episode "The Offspring", the episode where Data (Brent Spiner) builds his own android daughter (Hallie Todd). One might note that Frakes' character, Commander Riker, didn't appear much in that episode. This kicked off a full-blown directorial career for Frakes that hasn't slowed since. Frakes directed eight episodes of "NextGen" in total, as well as the feature films "Star Trek: First Contact" (1996) and "Star Trek: Insurrection" (1998).
Frakes would go on to direct "Thunderbirds" and "Clockstoppers," and enter a prolific career helming episodes of high-profile TV shows like "Leverage," "NCIS: Los Angeles," "Burn Notice," and "The Librarians." He also stayed within the Trek family over the years, directing episodes of "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Discovery," "Picard," and the notable crossover between "Strange New Worlds" and "Lower Decks." Spoilers for "Star Trek: Lower Decks" follow.
At the beginning of the second episode of the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee," senior officers Commander Ransom (Jerry O'Connell) and Lieutenant Shaxs (Fred Tatasciore) are working out in the gym of the U.S.S. Cerritos. They mention that to explore the galaxy and counter tyranny, they must remain flexible. Shaxs grunts and strains, while the frustratingly fit Ransom goads him on. They engage in unusual stretching maneuvers, employing some kind of bizarre futuristic yoga into their routine. Most unsettling are their outfits. Ransom wears a blue body stocking with a purple one-piece swimsuit over it. The swimsuit has cutouts in the chest area to accentuate his pecs. Shaxs wears a forest green body stocking with a burgundy singlet stretched on top. His pecs, too, are allowed a little "window" for accentuation.

"Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry died on October 24, 1991, at the age of 70. It was pretty widely known that Roddenberry widely used cocaine, quaaludes, methamphetamines, and a variety of other recreational drugs, a fact discussed tastefully and frankly in Joel Engel's 1994 biography "Gene Roddenberry: The Myth and the Man Behind Star Trek." Roddenberry's health suffered as a result of his drug use, and his body was dealt a major blow in 1989 when he suffered a stroke. He was still working on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" at the time but had to take a step back in the show's third season for health reasons.
The show continued until 1994, and Roddenberry — already famous for creating "Star Trek" in 1966 — lived long enough to see his legacy cemented in a new decade. "NextGen" represented a "purer" version of Roddenberry's vision as presented back in 1966. This one was his baby.

As other major European broadcasters, Spain’s Atresmedia is making a large bet on its VOD content offer, focused around the high-profile streaming service Atresplayer, which ambitiously re-launches July 5.
Just until a few years ago, European TV giants treated their streaming operations to bedrock linear lineups. Those days have gone. “It was not going to be this.”
Terry Matalas doesn’t mince words about the difficulty of getting the “Next Generation” band back together for Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard.” In fact, when he came onboard as showrunner prior to the second season, there was no plan for a reunion of the beloved Enterprise-D crew (nor an appearance from the ship itself).
“Because that was not the show they had set out to make,” he added in a new interview with IndieWire, alongside production designer Dave Blass. “‘Picard’ was the deconstruction of Jean-Luc Picard, and it had a new cast, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”
Matalas knew, though, that bringing back the full “Next Generation” cast for one final adventure — after their voyages came to a thud of an end with 2002’s “Star Trek: Nemesis” — would be electric if it happened.
He made it so.

New Delhi, May 4 (Ians) It major Cognizant on Thursday said it will lay off 3,500 employees, or approximately 1 per cent of its workforce (mainly non-billable), as it sees revenues slowing down in 2023.
The company will also reduce its real estate costs by “eliminating 80,000 seats and 11 million square feet in large cities in India”.
Cognizant has initiated a ‘NextGen’ programme aimed at simplifying its operating model, optimising corporate functions and consolidating and realigning office space to reflect the post-pandemic hybrid work environment.
“We expect the personnel-related actions of this programme to impact approximately 3,500 employees or approximately 1 per cent of our workforce,” the company said in a statement.
“Our drive for simplification will include operating with fewer layers in an effort to enhance agility and enable faster decision-making. The company expects savings generated by the program to help fund continued investments in people, revenue growth opportunities, and the modernisation of office space,” the company added.

A recent article on /Film argued that the characters on "Star Trek: Lower Decks" are seeing an accelerated growth arc, perhaps by mere dint of the show's 30-minute format. "Lower Decks" is downright jaunty, forcing a great deal of madcap incident into its brief runtime and comparatively reduced season lengths. It also helps that there are only four main characters on "Lower Decks," whereas most other Trek shows hover around seven or eight. When it came to the franchise's average format, showrunners could take their time in developing characters, using entire hours to develop one small facet of only one person.

As Hollywood events return to full force in New York and Los Angeles amid the coronavirus pandemic, here’s a look at the week’s biggest premieres, parties and openings, including Colin in Black and White, Spencer, Last Night in Soho and The Shrink Next Door.
Love Life season two premiere
Paul Feig unveiled the second season of his HBO Max anthology series at a Tribeca Fall Preview event on Sunday, in which William Jackson Harper takes over as the main character of the show from Anna Kendrick. “This main character is from such a different walk of life; it’s such a different lens, but it still has that inherent relatability,” Kendrick, who is staying on this season as guest star and executive producer, told THR on the red carpet. “There’s so many moments of the season that just make me go like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve been exactly there,...

Marvel Studios’ Founding Chairman David Maisel is going to attempt to build two more cinematic universes. A year ago he teamed up with music industry executive Scooter Braun to launch Mythos Studios, and they purchased a controlling stake in Aspen Comics, which is the publisher founded by comic artist Michael Turner.
They plan on taking Turner’s original intellectual properties and building an animated cinematic universe out of them. They are calling that universe the TurnerVerse. These will be big event-sized animated films that tell an ongoing story over the course of multiple films.
The first two projects being produced in the TurnerVerse are Fathom and Soulfire. The two films are being developed by Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander, the directors of Netflix’s Next Gen. The screenplay for Fathom is being written by Kristin Gore (Saturday Night Live and Futurama), the daughter of Vice President Al Gore. The story centers around Aspen Matthews,...

Romantic comedies are universal in appeal, but they've historically been limiting in terms of casting. Over the years, white actresses like Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts have dominated female protagonist roles in the genre. The road to progress has been slow, but after an unnecessarily long delay, there's finally an Asian-American leading lady in a major rom-com. In Crazy Rich Asians, Taiwanese-American actress (and queen of lobs) Constance Wu stars as Rachel Chu, a middle-class economics professor who falls for a member of Singapore's elite.
Wu has had a few parts in films and TV series, but her biggest role yet is on ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, in which she plays the stern, often inadvertently hilarious Jessica Huang. Besides Jessica, Rachel is a very important part for Wu since it marks her first leading role in a major studio film. In a recent emotional tweet,...

"There's way too much injustice in the world… together we can fix it!"
Netflix has released the first trailer for a new animated sci-fi adventure film that they are releasing called Next Gen. The film tells the story of an "unlikely friendship between a rebellious girl and a runaway combat robot, as they unite to stop a madman's plan for technological world domination." The film is also described as being about the "bittersweet power of memories."
The movie comes from directors Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander and it looks pretty great! It kind of has a Big Hero 6 vibe to it but without the Disney flair.
The film also has a solid voice cast that includes Charlyne Yi, John Krasinski, David Cross, Michael Peña, Jason Sudeikis, and Constance Wu. The movie hits Netflix on September 7th. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!

"There's way too much injustice in the world... together we can fix it!" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an animated sci-fi adventure comedy titled Next Gen, the first feature film made by filmmakers Kevin Adams & Joe Ksander. Next Gen is about how a friendship with a top-secret robot turns a lonely girl's life into a thrilling adventure as they take on bullies, evil bots, and a scheming madman. Sounds like a good time. Featuring Charlyne Yi as the voice of Mai, along with the voices of John Krasinski, David Cross, Michael Peña, Jason Sudeikis, and Constance Wu. I wasn't expecting much out of this, but dang, this really looks great. The animation is excellent, and the story looks cliche but very enjoyable to watch anyway. Here's the official trailer (+ posters) for Kevin Adams & Joe Ksander's Next Gen, from Netflix's YouTube: Next Gen is an animated action-adventure film...

There’s a wider range of indie movies joining the usual studio suspects in this year’s animation race. Disney/Pixar returns with “Incredibles 2,” Brad Bird’s superb advance on the original Oscar-winning 2004 superhero feature, while Disney Animation offers its own sequel to an Oscar-nominated original, “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” (November 21), and Universal/Illumination will try to make its return to awards contention with another Dr. Seuss adaptation, “The Grinch” (November 9).
Longer shots include Aardman’s stop-motion “Early Man” (Lionsgate) and two Sony Animation entries, sequel “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,” from director Genndy Tartakovsky, and the Phil Lord & Chris Miller-produced “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (December 14), a likely holiday hit with a wild stylistic look directed by animators-turned-directors Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman and Peter Ramsey (“Rise of the Guardians”). Are Lord and Miller now considered worthy of Oscar contention, with experienced animators in the directors’ chairs?...

Netflix is reportedly breaking the bank for Michael Bay and Ryan Reynolds. The streaming giant is partnering with the duo for the upcoming action-thriller “Six Underground,” and Deadline reports Netflix has committed to a $150 million budget. The price tag is a new Netflix record when it comes to most expensive budgets. David Ayer’s “Bright” was the previous record holder with its $90 million budget.
“Six Underground” is expected to launch a new action franchise for Netflix. The film is being written by Reynolds’ “Deadpool” screenplay collaborators Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and involves six billionaires who fake their own death and team up to take down bad guys. The budget suggests Netflix is hopeful that mixing Bay’s trademark bombast with the “Deadpool” team’s raunchy humor will be a recipe for success. Skydance Media is producing the film with Netflix.
The $150 million deal is the latest major purchase for Netflix.

Exclusive: In what would amount to its biggest budget feature project yet, Netflix is partnering with Skydance Media on Six Underground, an action thriller that Michael Bay will direct with Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds starring. Sources said the commitment here is in the $150M range, and Bay will start production this summer for 2019 release.
The project was developed by Skydance from a script by Deadpool screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Bay and Skydance announced in March their intentions to make the film together, with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce Six Underground along with Bay.
Wme reps Bay and Reynolds, the latter of whom comes off a $300 million global opening for Deadpool 2.
As for Netflix, this is the latest big project to come along even as some media and the Cannes Film Festival put out a vibe to try and marginalize its movie initiatives.

Netflix has bought North American and Latin American rights to a pair of awards winners at the Cannes Film Festival — “Happy as Lazzaro” and “Girl.”
The streaming service made the announcement Saturday, the closing day of the 71st edition of the world’s most glamorous film festival. The festival created a stir in April, by announcing that Netflix movies wouldn’t be eligible for in-competition slots — which prompted Netflix to pull all of its titles for consideration, including out-of-competition screenings.
Variety reported on May 7, the day before the festival opened, that Netflix executives had expressed interest in acquiring Asghar Farhadi’s “Everybody Knows,” the opening night film. On May 11, Netflix closed a deal for the animated robot movie “Next Gen” at Cannes. The deals for “Happy as Lazzaro” and “Girl” were handled by The Match Factory.

Most thought this would be a slow Cannes Film Festival, but we’re already on day four and movies have been bought, there’s a bidding war going on, and well, Jean-Luc Godard is back to mess with our heads.
Saban Films picked up the rights to two movies in the last two days, while Bleecker Street and Netflix (the latter of which backed out of submitting any films for the competition) have also emerged as players in the market.
Jessica Chastain’s female spy thriller “355” sparked a heated bidding war, with Universal emerging as the victor in an eight-figure deal.

Meanwhile, everyone else is still trying to get that one selfie on the red carpet despite a no-selfie policy — or get another glimpse at jury president Cate Blanchett.
See what everyone talked about during the fourth day at Cannes:
Acquisitions, Acquisitions
May 11 saw the acquisitions of quite a heap of films. Neon acquired the troll love story “Border” following its world premiere at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, while Bleecker Street picked up the rights to Mads Mikkelsen’s survival drama “Arctic.” The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday night.
Saban Films bought the rights to Keanu Reeves’ “Siberia,” a thriller by director Matthew Ross in the market that also stars Ana Ularu and Molly Ringwald.

In what might be the biggest deal so far at Cannes, Netflix picked up the worldwide rights, excluding China, to the animated film “Next Gen” for $30 million.
Netflix pulled out of submitting films to this year’s festival after organizers implemented a new rule that bans any films that don’t have theatrical distribution in France. The streaming company had the option to screen films out of competition — but passed.
Speaking of Saban Films…
Saban Films sure is spending money this year. At the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Saban bought the North American rights to Craig William Macneill’s “Lizzie,” in partnership with Roadside Attractions.
The distributor has been busy at Cannes as well, having bought Gerard Butler’s “Keepers” on Thursday and Reeves’ “Siberia” on Friday. Saban came to conquer Cannes, that’s for sure.
Jessica Chastain’s ‘355’ Bidding War
Everyone wanted a piece of “355,” Jessica Chastain’s female all-star spy thriller that will also star Lupita Nyong’o, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and Fan Bingbing. Simon Kinberg (“X-Men; Dark Phoenix”) will direct.
Early Saturday, Universal announced it had acquired U.S. distribution rights to “355” in what the studio said was “a competitive situation” — i.e., a bidding war — believed to be worth eight figures.

Jean-Luc Godard’s ‘The Image Book’ Debuts
Jean-Luc Godard’s newest film “The Image Book” debuted on Friday at Cannes, and early reviews are as jumbled and convoluted as the film itself seems to be.
“The Image Book: who f—in’ knows,” wrote one critic, while another said, “What do you want me to say?”
TheWrap’s Steve Pond wrote in his review: “‘The Image Book’ requires stamina, or more accurately surrender. (A section of the Grand Theatre Lumiere balcony devoted to press had at least a dozen walkouts during the film.)”
See some tweets about the film below.
The Image Book: who fuckin knows. But here are some nonverbal reviews from those seated near me!

- girl next to me covered ears for long stretches
-man two over checked phone 50, 60, and 65 minutes in
-guy in front of me buzzsaw snored for full minute before someone woke him up

The Image Book: Jean-Luc Godard’s collection of images about trains, war, Arab nations & more – from movies & real footage – w/ narration from Godard, sudden bursts of music & long silences. Just saw The Image Book by Jlg. More bellowing at crappy resolution footage from 1950s films and of various imperialist atrocities. What do you want me to say? #cannes2018

‘355’: Universal Lands Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o Spy Thriller in Reported $20 Million Deal
The cameras have not started rolling on Simon Kinberg’s “355,” but it’s arguably one of the biggest movies of Cannes 2018. Universal Pictures has purchased U.S. rights to the movie in an estimated $20 million deal (via Variety), making it one of the bigger purchase in Cannes market history. The star-studded film features Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Fan Bingbing, Marion Cotillard, and Penelope Cruz.
Chastain came up with the concept for “355” herself. “Smash” creator Theresa Rebeck is writing the screenplay, while Kinberg is directing. The filmmaker and Chastain teamed up on his directorial debut, the Fox tentpole “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” The title of the movie refers to Agent 355, one of our nation’s first secret agents during the American Revolution.
“355” plot details are remaining under wraps for now, but the five actresses are rumored to all be playing spies from around the world who team up for a mission.

Netflix has made its first acquisition of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival in the form of a $30 million deal for animated robot movie “Next Gen.” The acquisition is for international rights, excluding China. “Next Gen” is the first feature for directors Kevin R. Adams and Joe Ksander and will feature the voices of Michael Pena, Jason Sudeikis, David Cross, Kitana Turnbull, and Constance Wu. The deal was made at the Cannes market.
Cannes and Netflix have had a rocky relationship in 2018. The streaming giant removed all of its films from consideration for the festival after Cannes implemented a rule banning films without French theatrical distribution from competing for the Palme d’Or. The rule made Netflix-backed features ineligible to premiere in the Competition lineup, but it would’ve still allowed Netflix to debut titles like Orson Welles’ finished “The Other Side of the Wind” out of competition. The company didn’t budge and skipped Cannes entirely.

The hugely ambitious Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has no shortage of classic episodes. We have a complete guide for you.
Spoilers lie ahead for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Overlapping with both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's seven seasons had some very high points, It also had some very low ones that strayed a bit too far from the core of Star Trek for some fans, yet gave the show a unique texture that some savor.
If you only ever watch 25 stories from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, these are they, at least in my opinion – the only rule being that multi-part episodes count as one story (but great big multi-season Dominion flavored arcs don't!)
Many Star Trek fans have long been hopeful that CBS may yet announce the remastering of Deep Space Nine for high definition and thus Blu-ray.
