The next James Bond film will have a new casting director following the casting retirement of Debbie McWilliams, who has cast each of the last 13 James Bond films.

“I have now hung up my casting hat and have moved on to other film-related projects,” said McWilliams in an email to Screen.

McWilliams made her decision to retire from casting prior to Amazon MGM Studios acquiring creative control of the James Bond franchise from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, announced last week.

Nostalgic millennials will soon get to return to Genovia. On Friday, Disney announced that Adele Lim, screenwriter of “Crazy Rich Asians” and director of “Joy Ride,” has signed on to direct “The Princess Diaries 3,” per Variety. The film will return Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis, Queen of Genovia, for the first time since 2004.

“As a diehard fan of the original ‘Princess Diaries,’ I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim said in a statement to Variety. “We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”

Hathaway confirmed Lim’s involvement with an enthusiastic Instagram post, sharing the Variety story with the caption “Miracles happen,” a reference to the first movie’s theme song.

The most infamous example of this was Paul Feig's 2016 remake of Ghostbusters, which took the Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd-led original and instead cast a leading quartet of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Sunday Am Update: Here’s how the weekend is settling: Ryan Reynolds is first with Marvel Studios/Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine‘s third weekend at $54.2M. Blake Lively is second, but with a very strong $50M for It Ends With Us.

This is the first time that two movies in August both played to north of $50M.

The expectation is that the Justin Baldoni directed and starring movie based on the Colleen Hoover novel will have a good Sunday. Sony’s Where the Crawdads Sing only eased -13% off its Saturday. These female lit feature adaptations may fall on Saturday as the fan fevered turnout occurs on Thursday and Friday, but sometimes they they can see a matinee audience recovery on Sunday, which is what is expected here.

I consider Blake Lively to be a rather underrated actress. Perhaps it’s due to the greater recognition her husband (Ryan Reynolds) receives, her less successful films, or even the genres chosen by the actors… There are many possible reasons. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that its Board of Governors voted to present Academy Honorary Awards to Quincy Jones and Juliet Taylor, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Richard Curtis and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. The Oscar® statuettes will be presented at the Academy’s Governors Awards event on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.

The “Killers of the Flower Moon” actress, who recently made history as the first Native American woman nominated in the Best Actress Oscar category, is set to lead the adaptation of Yoko Ogawa’s sci-fi novel “Memory Police.” Oscar winner Charlie Kaufman wrote the script, with Reed Morano (an Emmy winner for her work on “The Handmaid’s Tale”) directing.

The British Film Institute (BFI) is honouring James Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli with BFI Fellowships – the highest honour bestowed by the BFI – as the film franchise celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

US-born Wilson and Broccoli have overseen the Bond franchise for nearly 30 years. The half-siblings head Eon Productions, and have together produced nine of the total 25 Bond films, starting with Goldeneye in 1995. Wilson was screenwriter on five films in the 1980s (with Richard Maibaum) and producer of three Bonds with his stepfather and...

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are being accorded BFI Fellowships, the highest honor bestowed by the British Film Institute.

The fellowships will be presented at the BFI chair’s dinner, hosted by BFI chair Tim Richards, on June 28.

Blake Lively is making her feature directorial debut with an upcoming film adaptation of the graphic novel “Seconds” for Searchlight Pictures, Variety has confirmed.

Created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and released in 2014 by Random House imprint Ballantine Books, “Seconds” follows the story of Katie Clay, the owner and head chef of the titular restaurant. One night, a mysterious spirit provides Katie with the ability to alter reality by writing something she wants to change in a notebook, eating a mushroom and falling asleep. As Katie begins abusing the power to alter her past mistakes, her actions slowly cause the fabric of time and space to unravel.

The script for “Seconds” is penned by Edgar Wright. Actress Blake Lively (A Simple Favor) is mounting an adaptation of the graphic novel Seconds for Searchlight Pictures, in her feature directorial debut, Deadline can confirm.

The title from Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley was published by Random House imprint Ballantine Books in 2014. It centers on Katie Clay, who receives the power to fix her past mistakes by writing them down in a notebook, eating a mushroom and falling asleep. Clay subsequently becomes too eager to fix every little aspect of her life and before long, her newfound ability begins to create ever-new problems that threaten not only to take her further and further from the life she initially had, but the very fabric of time and space itself.

Edgar Wright—who helmed the beloved 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, based on O’Malley’s graphic novels—adapted the screenplay and will produce the new film alongside three-time Oscar nominee Marc Platt.

Further winners include British Film Commission exec Samantha Perahia.

Eon Productions’ Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are among the winners of the Production Guild of Great Britain Awards 2022, set to be presented tomorrow night (March 26).

Costume designer Eimer Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh has worked on a number of adaptations in her career, including “Brideshead Revisited,” “Love & Friendship,” the 2017 Masterpiece miniseries “Little Women,” and even contemporary thriller “The Rhythm Section.” But nothing prepared her for the galaxy-spanning scope of “Foundation,” the new Apple TV+ series based on the novels by Isaac Asimov.

“‘Foundation’ to use a much-worn turn of phrase, it is epic on every kind of scale,” Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh tells Gold Derby during the “Meet the Experts” costume designers panel. “So I just decided the best way to approach it is the way I do all my work: read the script and everything needs to be character-based.”

Babieka

For over 50 years, Babieka has helped handle big budget international shoots in Spain. Ridley Scott’s “Exodus,” Terry George’s “The Promise” and Reed Morano’s “The Rhythm Section” figure amongst its recent titles. Babieka also produces (Netflix film “The Paramedic”) and co-produces. “Top international productions are in our DNA. These prove an amazing training ground for our cast and crew that we benefit from in our own productions,” says CEO Denis Pedregosa.

Alongside some of the biggest streaming apps available now, Paramount+ has entered the highly competitive market and is looking to make its mark. Originally launched as CBS All Access in 2014, the ViacomCBS owned service was rebranded as Paramount+ on March 4, 2021, following the 2019 re-merger of CBS and Viacom. With 36 million subscribers currently, Paramount Plus is looking to expand even more. They will be adding over one thousand new movie titles this week alone.

And the move seems very necessary. HBO Max recently merged with Discovery+. Disney, Netflix, and Prime Video are available globally with millions of subscribers. Paramount+ will start streaming Paramount Pictures' theatrical releases after a 45-day window in movie theaters. So, you can expect to stream A Quiet Place Part 2 from July. Paramount's sci-fi thriller Infinite, starring Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor will be exclusively streaming on the platform from June 10.

Paramount+ said Monday that it will significantly expand its content offering to more than 2,500 titles by the end of summer, starting with the exclusive premiere of the sci-fi action film Infinite, which will make its debut June 10. It stars Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor and is directed by Antoine Fuqua.

On August 20, the service will premiere the kid-friendly Paw Patrol: The Movie the same day it hits theaters — a first for the streaming service. Paramount+ will also become the streaming home for A Quiet Place Part II following its theatrical release.
