Netflix’s Korean crime thriller series, Mercy For None, comprises a solid cast, featuring some of the most well-known acting talents of the Korean showbiz industry. While the narrative treatment of the revenge saga is pretty basic in its approach, it is the unique visual style, brilliant action choreography, and compelling performance by the cast that make the series work so well. Before moving to the cast and character details, the stunt crew’s remarkable efforts should be acknowledged, who not only brought a number of memorable action sequences to life but also maintained the tone of gritty, grounded violence the series was aiming at.

The court has dismissed all of its counterclaims, ruling in favor of Lee Seung Gi. Hook Entertainment has been ordered to pay 581 million Krw to the actor, excluding delayed interest. BBC Studios’ ‘Criminal Justice’ to Get Korean Adaptation
Image
BBC Studios’ crime series “Criminal Justice” is to be adapted for local consumption in South Korea. The move follows an agreement between BBC and producer Studio M. A local broadcaster has not been revealed.

The Korean version will be directed by Myoung Woo Lee (Backstreet Rookie) and written by Soon Kyu Kwon (Warrior Baek Dong Soo). Top Korean actors Soo Hyun Kim (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay) and Seoung Won Cha (A Korean Odyssey) will star in the drama series. The version will be co-produced with Studio M, Chorokbaem media and Gold Medalist.

The original “Criminal Justice” series, created by Peter Moffat, centers around a young man’s ordeal against the justice system after he is accused of a murder he cannot remember committing. It enjoyed significant success in the U.K. market — where it picked up two BAFTA Television Awards in 2008 for best drama serial and best writer,...

Top 5 East Asian Gothic TV Programmes
1. The Guest

With its triangle of investigators, a Catholic Priest (Yoon Hwa Pyung), a Shaman (Choi Yoon) and a Police Detective (Kang Kil Yeong), “The Guest” can be best thought of as a loose spin-off of Na’s “The Wailing” (2015) even though the answers seem clearer cut in the former than the later. Like all good Gothic texts, the crisis in the present can be traced back to a trauma in the past at which the paths of the three intersect. As Bts tell us in “DNA” ‘this is not a coincidence’ (2017). In the present, an outbreak of violent crimes for no apparent reason bring the three together again as they search for the demon behind the outbreak whose capture would resolve their traumatic pasts. Much darker in its approach than many horror themed kdramas, “The Guest”’s tight scripting, clever casting and cinematography mark it out as a must see.
