A breathtaking adaptation of the manga series by renowned manga artist Jiro Taniguchi and writer Baku Yumemakura, THE SUMMIT OF THE GODS follows a young Japanese photojournalist, Fukamachi, who finds a camera that could change the history of mountaineering. It leads him to the mysterious Habu, an outcast climber believed missing for years. Fukamachi enters a world of obsessive mountaineers hungry for impossible conquests on a journey that leads him, step by step, towards the summit of the gods.

This explains - why do some people risk their lives climbing mountains?

This excellent watch lets you in on the minds and hearts of the mountain-climbers. I'm no mountain climber, but watching Habu Joji's journey made me realise -

Mountain climbing is one of the few places that demands you to live-in-the-moment. One miss and you risk your life. In that sense, it is one of the few places where the thrill of living-on-the-edge intersects with truly living-in-the-now.

And those who've experienced this first-hand find any other way to live too dull to be considered "living". And at that point, it's either "living" climbing-mountains and taking risks or not living. And, when you look at things from this perspective, all the risk mountain climbers take starts to makes sense..

Trivia
To animate the climbing scenes realistically, director Patrick Imbert consulted with several mountaineers who had tackled Everest.

Goofs
When Habu reaches the summit of Everest and looks out over the landscape in front of him, several of the adjacent mountains at the start of the pan appear to be at the same height as him. None of the other mountains around Everest come close to its height (the closest is about 400 metres lower), so none of them would go above the horizon line.
