A niche low budget film with a confused plot

Nothing redeemable in the whole film

I try and find the good in anything I watch, i have met my match with this. I have no idea why such a Steller cast signed up for such a weak, and uneventful script. No laughs, no drama, no point.

Shockingly awful

Watched a while ago, and just remembered it. The information you need is it is unfunny and boring. The story is really bad, and you keep waiting for something interesting to happen and it never does. Not worth watching.

Crawl like a Panther.

Hard to believe with all the household names here, they could make such a duff film.I never laughed once but was annoyed a lot at how purile and immature the characters were. This would have been bad in the 80's.In 2018 its a dam right insult. At near 2 hours long the pace drags as you wait for some comedy or special moment that never happens.

A gentle and heartwarming comedy.

This is one of those community spirited films in the manner of The Full Monty, and the Ealing comedies, that British film makers often do (but don't always do particularly well). A fairly formulaic plot of 'let's get the old gang back together for the one last tilt at the establishment' is brought to life by some good acting and some very likable, and in some cases eccentric characters. It's not full of belly laughs, but you can't help but have a smile on your face much of the time. Stephen Graham, Julian Sands, Steve Furst and Jill Halfpenny all turn in great performances (Jill Halfpenny in particular), and there's some lovely Yorkshire scenery to enjoy.

School Production Standard

Shockingly bad. Boring and unfunny with a screenplay fit for a poor school production ( and that's insulting school plays).. My friend walked out halfway through and I should have gone with him. One of the worst bits of screen writing I've ever come across

Good fun if you look back at Panto style 80's British wrestling with fondness

I can't understand the bad reviews for this movie, as its as good as most other lower budget British under dog comedy's in my opinion.

If you remember the family fun Panto style 80's British wrestling with fondness, you will probably enjoy this movie and better understand some of the jokes (otherwise you may not get it).

This movie itself has a pantomime stye villain and other over the top characters (particularly Julian Sands as sweet cheeks) with a lot of over acting but when watching, you just need to accept this is the format of the film.

Could have been good, but isn't

Far too much drama and far too few laughs, if any. An hour into the movie now and still nothing is happening. It's all soooooo slooooooow and boring. What a pity because the idea of a wrestling team reunion could have resulted in something good. Maybe it's because I am a non-UK resident and don't understand the British pub-culture. Maybe it's just as boring for people who do.

Not good

Acting is worse than in Eastenders if that's possible.

A true gem

You settle into your cinema seat and with the the opening credits your transported to 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. The film has a heart warming story plenty of laughs, and a villain you can't wait to see get his just deserts. The wealth of British talent in this film is crazy, you could easily do a spin off with a few. What you get from this film is a damm good laugh. Worth a watch you won't be disappointed

why the bad reviews?

Stephen graham proves his all round acting genius! a great comedy with snappy quirks, a sporting background, friend and family loyalty, hero worship, pride, coming of age and lots of laughs!! stephen graham is fantastic in this hidden gem!

Go panthers go.

Caught this film by accident. Watched it on a Saturday afternoon which was perfect for a wrestling based film. Plenty of laugh out loud moments. Drama and funny in equal measure. Follows the formula as did full Monty. Community based people trying to save their local pub, against a snidy brewery boss played really well by Stephen Thompkinson. By the end of the film you'll be wanting to grab your 80s Lycra and get in the ring with them. Can't understand the negative reviews. It's a feel good film with a great message at the heart of it. People giving it one out of ten have no heart. Panthers goooooooo.
