It's common practice for music videos to pay homage to famous movies as visual shorthand — from Madonna cosplaying Marilyn Monroe's "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" look in "Material Girl" to The Smashing Pumpkins taking a trip to the moon in "Tonight, Tonight." Now, pop star Sabrina Carpenter is the latest to do this in her new video for "Tears," the second track on her just-released, hotly anticipated seventh album, "Man's Best Friend."

Carpenter released a video for the album's opening track, "Manchild," depicting her as an unlucky hitchhiker. The "Tears" video takes a turn into phantasmagoria right out of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Marvel Preview: A Deadpool And Wolverine Villain Gets Her Own Team In X-Men #16 [Exclusive]
Image
A year in, the "From The Ashes" relaunch of the "X-Men" comics hasn't staved off accusations of movie synergy. After the wild Krakoa era of X-Men, "From The Ashes" has been closer to the '90s cartoon norm most expect from these mutants. The main "X-Men" title has also brought in a villain who just debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That would be Cassandra Nova, played in last year's "Deadpool & Wolverine" by Emma Corrin. Created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, Cassandra is — essentially — the evil twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier. Since her debut in 2001's "New X-Men" #114, Cassandra has been out to teach her brother and his students one lesson: "E is for Extinction."

Marvel has shared an exclusive preview for "X-Men" #16 with /Film, which follows Cassandra's latest scheme. She's now a leader of the organization 3K. From the Friends of Humanity to Orchis, the...

A Yellowjackets Star's Must-Watch Sci-Fi Horror Movie Is Killing It On Max
Image
Be warned, major spoilers for "Companion" follow.

Ryan Coogler's vampire film "Sinners" made a deserved smash at the box office this weekend, but audiences who stayed home got to enjoy a different Warner Bros.-distributed horror picture: Drew Hancock's "Companion," which joined streaming service Max on Friday, April 18 and has since become its no. 1 ranked movie. In "Companion," Iris (Sophie Thatcher) and Josh (Jack Quaid) are a seemingly picture-perfect young couple. The movie opens with their meet-cute, and Iris, head over heels, narrates that meeting Josh was the first moment in her life she felt true purpose. The second? "The day I killed him."

Zach Cregger, director of the 2022 horror film "Barbarian," was a producer on "Companion." Like that picture, "Companion" makes a huge swerve after its first act, turning into a completely different movie than you'd expected. Unlike "Barbarian," where the secrets stayed locked up tight until release,...

Ridley Scott & Denzel Washington Nixed 1 Gladiator 2 Villain Detail Because They Didnt Like It
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Gladiator II.

Ridley Scott and Denzel Washington nixed a proposed costume detail for Macrinus in Gladiator 2. Directed by Ridley Scott, the sequel to his 2000 Oscar-winning Gladiator brings an all-new cast of characters, set decades after Maximus' story. Gladiator 2's story follows Paul Mescal as Lucius, the now-adult son of Maximus (Russel Crowe), as he navigates the political and physical brutality of the gladiator arena. Denzel Washington plays Macrinus, an opulent and ruthless arms dealer who rose from enslavement into one of the most powerful political players of Ancient Rome.

In an interview with Variety, the films costume designer Janty Yates shared that a headpiece had been considered for Macrinus but was rejected by Scott and Washington. Yates previously won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work in Gladiator (2000) and is posed for further acclaim with Washington's character swathed in rich fabrics and majestic tunics.
