A massive manhunt is going down in Collider’s exclusive first look at the trailer for the Viaplay arrival of The Hunt. After nabbing multiple nominations and wins at the Netherlands International Film Festival, the series is finally making its way across the Atlantic and onto screens in the United States on March 27, giving those of us living all the way on the other side of the world a chance to educate ourselves about one of the most infamous true crime cases in the history of the country. The project nabbed nods for Best Drama Series and Best Screenplay at the aforementioned festival, while leading cast member Abke Haring (Splendid Isolation) took home the trophy for Best Leading Role, with the title also earning Best Direction.

The Canadian Chinese co-production Banr, written, directed and starring Eric Xia-Hou, made its world premiere at the 2025 Slamdance Film Festival in its new home of Los Angeles, where it also had the designation of being the only narrative feature from Asia selected this year.

The heartfelt drama follows the fractured collapse of a 40-year marriage between a strong-willed husband named Zhang Jianjun (Sui Li) and his loving wife, Liu Ximei (Baoquing Li), who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Told through a series of fragmented memories, the camera watches as Zhang leaves a collection of videos behind for his wife in the event that he can no longer take care of her. Throughout these videos, we see how Zhang and Liu not only take care of each other but manage to still navigate the ups and downs of life, grief and loss as they both succumb to the medical issues that come with age.

What you might not realise is that Marvel Studios hoped to use the character not just in its Spider-Man franchise (which is produced in partnership with Sony) but Black Panther as well. In fact, filmmaker Ryan Coogler hoped to put Sergei Kravinoff front and centre in T'Challa's first solo outing.

"Being a Marvel fan, you want to grab all the characters," he said shortly after Black Panther's release in 2018. "You realise there’s contractual things. You don’t have that character. There was a Christopher Priest run that was pretty heavy, there’s a big scene where Panther’s fighting Kraven, Kraven the Hunter."

Kraven the Hunter has started rolling out into theaters and, well, it's going to be an interesting weekend for what could end up being Sony's final villain-led movie in a franchise that kinda, sorta launched with 2018's Venom. 

Like Madame Web before it, Kraven the Hunter is treated as a "standalone" story so there's no sign of Morbius or The Vulture to see if he fancies joining their team to "do some good." The movie still sets up a sequel, though.
