Downton Abbey is going to make us emotional all over again. It is really the end of it all, as the third film in the series gives off the hint in its title, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. The first trailer of the film has been released, and it is clear that it will be a tear-jerking farewell to some of our favorite TV stars since 2010.
The series wrapped up in 2015 and was followed up by two films, Downton Abbey and Downton Abbey: A New Era. Midway through the series, we saw the shocking death of Dan Stevens’ Matthew Crawley, which left us devastated. It appears that the show is about to bring back those haunting memories.

As far as why Scarlett Johansson and her team will be seeking out these three monumental beasts, the synopsis revealed that she'll be tasked with retreiving DNA samples from the three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air, who in their DNA, hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Jurassic World Rebirth: Scarlett Johansson Fights To Survive In New Photos From Upcoming Dino Sequel
As part of their summer movie previews, Entertainment Weekly, ScreenRant, and Empire have shared new stills from Jurassic World Rebirth, offering a killer new look at the franchise's newest leading lady Scarlett Johansson, who plays covert operations expert Zora Bennett, doing her best to survive all kinds of dino carnage.
Aside from a handful of brief glimpses, the early images from the film reveal remarkably few dinosaurs—likely because the production is keeping the Distortus rex and any other mutant dinos on the island tightly under wraps, so we'll just have to strap in this Fourth of July for all kinds of mayhem.
With How to Train Your Dragon due out in theaters in June, it seems highly probable that a new trailer for Rebirth will be arriving online sometime before the end of this month as they begin to ramp up the marketing campaign for an epic Jurassic June.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may not quite be the cultural force it was throughout the 2010s, with something like "Captain America: Brave New World" being seen as a box office gamble rather than a surefire hit. Gone are the days where fans could be certain the newest MCU flick would be met with positive praise on Rotten Tomatoes and netting a sizable profit. Even so, the franchise isn't without its merits, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The MCU was king of the hill for many years, and you don't reach that level of popularity without making a few enemies. Plenty of fans watch whatever comes out in theaters or on Disney+ for some escapism, but plenty of filmmakers adamantly believe the MCU has ruined the nature of cinema or at the very least aren't challenging audiences to engage with art in any meaningful way. Christopher Judge's Teal'c of Chulak remains a fan-favorite "Stargate Sg-1" character to this day. Even if you've never seen "Stargate Sg-1," chances are that if you were around in the early 2000s you remember the image of Judge in full Teal'c makeup, complete with his golden forehead tattoo, as part of the cultural wallpaper of the era. Judge went on to appear as the character in two episodes of the spin-off series, "Stargate Atlantis," as well as the direct-to-dvd movies "The Ark of Truth" and "Continuum," cementing his status as a series-spanning "Stargate" legend.
Judge also pitched a "Stargate" spin-off that would have changed the franchise and was envisioned as, in the actor's words, "Stargate's take on 'Black Panther.'" As it stands, Teal'c's final appearance was in season four, episode 17 of "Stargate: Atlantis," entitled "Midway," which debuted the same year as "The Ark of Truth" and "Continuum.

Netflix has become home to the 2019 war epic, Midway, which has been garnering popularity over the last few weeks. The film is based on the six months between WWII's infamous Pearl Harbor attack and the Battle of Midway that occurred around the Midway Atoll and was a turning point in the war that turned the tides in the U.S.'s favor. Roland Emmerich's Midway, which is a remake of Henry Fonda and Charlton Heston's movie of the same name, succeeds in paying tribute to the past by presenting multiple sides to the conflict, from the pains of strategy to the breathlessness of the sky.

The Mummy is set to rise from its tomb once again, with director Lee Cronin at the helm.
Coming off the success of his thrillingly nasty Evil Dead Rise revival (check out our review here), the Irish filmmaker was announced as director of an untitled horror project with a release date of April 17, 2026 earlier this year. Now, Blumhouse, Atomic Monster and Warner Bros. have revealed that it will actually be a new take on the classic Universal Monster.

Liam Neeson may not have started out as an action star, but he is certainly considered one now. Though Neeson's '90s and early 2000s career did have a handful of action movies, including Rob Roy (1995), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and Batman Begins (2005), he was just as well known for non-action roles in projects like Schindler's List (1993) and Love Actually (2003). Neeson's career shifted, however, after the release of Taken in 2009.
Taken spawned two less successful sequels, but it also set Neeson down a unique action path. Neeson became the starring figure in a number of mid-budget action movies, with the films usually built around his casting. Notable entries in Neeson's action career include movies like Unknown (2011), The Grey (2011), Non-Stop (2014), A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014), Cold Pursuit (2019), The Ice Road (2021), and In the Land of Saints and Sinners (2023). Many Neeson action movies come and go with little fanfare, and such was the case for one 2015 film.

Action franchises are some of the most financially lucrative film series out there. 2024 alone has shown this, as Deadpool & Wolverine, the first Deadpool movie to be a part of the MCU franchise, made over $1 billion to become the second-highest grossing of the year to date. Dune: Part Two, a sci-fi action movie, was also incredibly financially successful, making $714.4 million at the worldwide box office.
While the action franchise phenomenon started decades ago, the 21st century has been a great time for the action franchise. Successful series include The Fast and the Furious, The Expendables, and Mission: Impossible, which has released the majority of its entries post-2000. The MCU is a particularly notable example of the success of action franchises. Of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time, three of them are MCU films. Another successful action franchise from the 2000s has found one of its entries on the streaming charts recently.

Artificial intelligence has always been a popular subgenre in sci-fi, with Blade Runner, Terminator, RoboCop, Her, and Ex Machina tackling different sides of the universally feared future where robots dominate humankind. It has also become a major theme in horror, and Megan Fox's latest film is now a streaming success.
In the aftermath of M3GAN becoming a surprise hit, several other films tried to replicate the same formula by using a robot as a companion, including AfrAId and Fox's Subservience. The latter had a limited release in September and is now a big success on Netflix in its first week on the platform. The film scored second place in Netflix's Top 10 in the U.S., and sixth place globally in a holiday-themed top.

Although Transformers hasn't had much success lately in theaters, the franchise is still being enjoyed by countless fans on Netflix. Case in point, Michael Bay's 2007 CG/live-action movie starring Shia Labeouf has just landed on the streamer's Top 10 list this week.
Transformers is currently nestled in the #8 spot on Netflix's Top 10 Movies in United States chart, which is updated weekly, in between the Netflix original movie Mary, about Mary, mother of Jesus; and Roland Emmerich's Midway, about the first six months in the Pacific Theater of World War II, from the Attack on Pearl Harbor to the titular Battle of Midway. Directed by Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the live-action Transformers movie stars Labeouf and Megan Fox as Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes respectively, who team up with Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and the rest of the Autobots to take on the threat of the malicious and menacing Decepticons.

2019 was a glorious year for movies, with nine different films eclipsing the fabled $1 billion mark at the box office, including Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and more. However, one film that only earned $127 million and was critically maligned but beloved by audiences has found success on streaming five years later. Woody Harrelson stars alongside Patrick Wilson in Midway, the WWII epic that recently began streaming on Netflix and has jumped to the #7 spot. Midway, simply put, tells the story of the Battle of Midway that took place in 1942, told by the leaders and sailors who fought in it. The film earned a 42% score from critics and a 92% rating from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

From the director of Independence Day, Roland Emmerich's Midway is an underrated recent war film with an unbelievable cast of recognizable movie stars. Based on real-life events from World War II, including the attack on Pearl Harbor and the titular Battle of Midway, the 2019 film explores the lives of numerous characters fighting in the Pacific Theater. Like many of the best war movies of all time, Emmerich's film boasts an immensely talented list of names in its cast, from superhero franchise stars to actors from popular TV shows.

Megan Fox's divisive 2024 sci-fi thriller with a 48% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes finds streaming success on Netflix. Fox’s starring role in Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise-starter rocketed her to stardom. She later appeared in the sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, reuniting her with a director she would later accuse of dictatorial on-set behavior.
Fox followed up her Transformers double-down by exploring other roles in genre films. She had a cult hit with Jennifer’s Body, from Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody. Josh Brolin was her co-star in the bomb comic book supernatural Western Jonah Hex. Fox then joined another franchise for a pair of films, playing April O’Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. In recent years, Fox has undergone an action-star makeover, earning herself a spot alongside Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham in Expendables 4.

The 2019 movie Midway has found a new audience on Netflix. The film, which chronicles the Battle of Midway, a pivotal naval battle of World War II, has garnered both praise and criticism for its intense action sequences and historical accuracy. Roland Emmerich's tasteful tribute to real heroes documents those who turned the tide in the Pacific.
One key player in the Battle of Midway was World War II pilot Lieutenant Richard H. Best. He was portrayed by Ed Skrein in the Midway movie based on a true story. Best was honored with both the Navy Cross and Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during the sinking of the Japanese carriers Akagi and Hiryu. He is believed to be the first U.S. naval aviator to sink two enemy carriers in a single day. His determination and courage contributed greatly to the success of the battle, at great cost to his health.

Quick Links What Is 'Midway' About? How 'Midway' 1976 Reigns Supreme Where 'Midway' 2019 Emerges Victorious? The Final Verdict on 'Midway'
Midway is one of the most-watched war movies on Netflix in December 2024, reminding moviegoers of how talented director Roland Emmerich continues to be at delivering a scintillating spectacle. However, younger viewers may not know that the WWII epic drama is a remake of the 1976 film directed by Jack Smight, with Charlton Heston leading a large ensemble cast.
While both iterations have distinct moviemaking merits, comparing the sprawling WWII films to determine which reigns supreme may help persuade viewers unsure about watching the 2019 version. Critics may have panned both movies during their initial release, but as rousing crowdpleasers, both offer plenty of visceral aerial action and high-flying exhilaration. However, with all aspects tallied, only one Midway can declare victory.

Few naval battles stand out in history like the one that occurred near the small island of Midway in 1942, which helped secure American victory in the Pacific front of World War II, so any adaptation is going to have its work cut out for it. Given that he is known for his sense of spectacle, Roland Emmerich could have easily made Midway into another generic and embellished war film, but instead, we get a shockingly accurate portrayal of what transpired. Although the film does not cover the whole battle and small differences can be found, many of the craziest and unbelievable moments happened just as depicted. Born as a major passion project for the director, the film was also the result of an entire team helping to capture the essence of the battle, from the smallest set of details to the bigger epic moments.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest hit makers working today. Though his career started in WWE, Johnson has since been met with incredibly receptive viewership during his transition to Hollywood. He is a major name-draw on projects who has helped franchises succeed, such as The Fast and Furious movies. Johnson's work can also be attributed to helping reinvigorate older franchises, including the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise with Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 and Jumanji with his Jumanji sequels.
The breadth of Johnson's blockbuster work has recently led the actor to some impressive career milestones. The lifetime gross for movies in which Johnson was a lead actor crossed the $5 billion mark recently, making for an impressive record. Johnson also recently boasted the unique achievement of having two films in the top 5 at the box office, as both Red One and Moana 2 made it onto these rankings last weekend.

Lindsay Lohan has made a comeback in acting in recent years. She was originally known as a child actor, providing her talents to movies like The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday. In 2004, she made a splash in the teen comedy Mean Girls, wherein she played Cady Heron. Lohan's teenage years in acting were defined by films like these, which in turn became definitive works of family comedy. Mean Girls has a long legacy that has resulted in a Broadway musical and then a back-to-film adaptation of that musical, and Freaky Friday is also getting a new sequel.
After her active period in the early 2000s, however, Lohan's career slowed down significantly in the 2010s. For a while, her acting career only consisted of brief television appearances and short films. This changed in 2022, however, when Lohan signed a deal with Netflix that would allow her to star in a series of films.

Roland Emmerich isn't a man youd typically associate with heartfelt, grounded storytelling, as his career is best known for bombastic blockbusters like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. However, Emmerich stepped into new territory with Midway, an ambitious World War II drama that aimed to pay tribute to the troops while recreating one of historys most pivotal, and perhaps lesser-known, battles. War films took a pivotal turn in the 1970s, a decade that saw some of the best war films of all time ever created. Fresh out of the Vietnam War, the public and by extension, writers and directors looked at the war genre with a new lens and created a more gritty and realistic look at the action. Films started to incorporate more genuine visuals of the brutality of war and the psychological issues of the soldiers, before, during, and after the events that changed so many lives.
1970s classics like Apocalypse Now and The Deer Hunter are war films that have defined the genre. They push the boat out in terms of storytelling and introspective character studies that show, on a human level, the impact of war.
