Known for her roles in Barbie and Anyone But You, Alexandra Shipp is due to star opposite Rosario Dawson and Milla Jovovich in the upcoming thriller, Midnight. Jeffrey W. Byrd and Lamont Magee wrote the script for Midnight with a story by Alessio Russo, with Joshua Otis Miller stepping behind the camera to direct. In addition to starring in the film, Shipp, Jovovich, and Dawson are all producers on Midnight as well.

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff caught up with star Alexandra Shipp at San Diego Comic-Con for an interview to talk about her new movie, Violent Ends, and she asked what it was like working with Jovovich and Dawson on Midnight, not only as actors, but also producers. Shipp spoke about how the trio works seamlessly together to provide an environment on set that’s not only fun but also professional.

AMC Networks’ presence will be very strong at Comic-Con International this year, as they present multiple panels and a Shudder activation centered around Clown in a Cornfield. The film was a hit in theaters in May, and will soon be streaming on Shudder and AMC+.

Comic-Con International is held in San Diego at their Convention Center, and will run from July 24 through July 27.

Exclusive: Independent Film Company has acquired North American rights to John-Michael Powell’s revenge thriller Violent Ends, which stars Billy Magnussen from No Time To Die and is being shopped by Upgrade to international buyers in Cannes.

Set in the Ozark Mountains, the film follows Lucas Frost, an honest man brought up in a crime family, who tries to live a peaceful life with his fiancée and is pulled back into the family business when his cousin carries out an armed robbery with brutal consequences.

The cast includes Alexandra Shipp from Barbie, Nick Stahl, James Badge Dale, Kate Burton, and Ray McKinnon.

Exclusive: Upgrade will commence talks with international buyers in Cannes next week on the revenge thriller Violent Ends starring Billy Magnussen, James Badge Dale, Alexandra Shipp, and Nick Stahl.

John-Michael Powell will direct the story about Lucas Frost (Magnussen), a man raised in a notorious crime family who desperately wants to build a peaceful life with his fiancée, Emma (Shipp).

When a robbery involving Lucas’s cousin spirals out of control with tragic consequences, Lucas is forced back into the violent underworld he fought to leave behind.

Production took place in Arkansas and Upgrade will present footage to buyers on the Croisette.

Exclusive: Alexandra Shipp (Anyone But You), Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) will topline Midnight, a new action thriller from first-time feature filmmaker Joshua Otis Miller and Yale Productions.

Dawson is also a producer on the pic, which has wrapped production in Connecticut.

Written by Lamont Magee and Jeff Byrd, Midnight follows a young, blind woman (Shipp) as she is hunted by a group of international criminals (led by Jovovich) searching for a package they believe was given to the woman by her federal agent sister (Dawson). However, the assailants quickly realize that the woman, though unable to see, may be far more dangerous than expected.

The film is produced by Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman of Yale Productions in collaboration with Dawson, Leah Elizabeth Rucinski, and Timothy Christian and Rab Butler of Night Fox Entertainment. Other producers include David Gere, Chelsea Vale, and Beth Bryant. Michael Day co-produced.

Exclusive: Hamish Linklater, Billy Magnussen, Sarah Gadon, Brandon Perea and Yuvi Hecht have joined the cast of Imperative Entertainment and 30West’s uplifting romance A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. They join Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, who are starring with Kogonada directing. Sony Pictures will release the film in theaters globally. Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and newcomer Lucy Thomas make up the remaining ensemble.

The script is written by Seth Reiss. Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Ryan Friedkin will produce the feature, along with Reiss and Youree Henley. Executive producers include Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Original Films’ Ori Eisen. 30West is financing the film.

Plot details are under wraps, but A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is described as an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.

Linklater is currently starring as “Abraham Lincoln in the Apple TV+ limited series Manhunt.
