Rogue One is still seen as one of the best Star Wars movies, even eight years after its release. The film is a prequel to Star Wars: A New Hope and tells the story of rebels stealing the Death Star plans, leading to the Rebel Alliance’s first victory. Known for its darker tone, strong story, and visuals, it earned over $1 billion and inspired the prequel series Andor.
Andor has finished its first season, and the second (and final) season is set to premiere on April 22, 2025. Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso, a key character in Rogue One, didn’t appear in season 1 because, during that timeline, Jyn was still a prisoner of the Empire and not connected to the Rebellion. With season 2 covering a broader timeline with time jumps, fans wonder if Jones will return as Jyn.

‘Rogue One’ is still, eight years after its release considered to be one of the best Star Wars installments. The movie serves as a prequel to ‘Star Wars: A New Hope,’ following a group of rebels who steal the Death Star plans, leading to the Rebel Alliance’s first victory against the Empire. Praised for its darker tone, story, and visuals, the film grossed over $1 billion worldwide and inspired the prequel series ‘Andor.’
‘Andor’ already has one season behind it with the second and final season expected to premiere on April 22, 2025. Despite having a massive, arguably the most important role in ‘Rogue One,’ Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso was not a part of ‘Andor’ season 1. It didn’t make sense to include the character at all considering that during the events of the first season, her character would not be associated with Rebel Alliance as she was a prisoner of the Empire.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy introduced plenty of new characters, but very few were around during the original trilogy, never mind integral to one Leia Organa storyline. Portrayed by the late Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia Organa was one of the main characters of the original Star Wars trilogy and has gone on to be one of the most iconic female characters in movie history. Not only was she strong-willed, but she had a sharp wit that allowed her to take on anyone she faced verbally.
In The Empire Strikes Back, it became obvious that Leia and Han Solo had developed feelings for one another, and their story became iconic with Leia professing her love for Han and him simply replying I know. The opening of the next movie, Return of the Jedi, featured Leia, her brother Luke Skywalker, and their friends working together to free Han Solo from Jabba the Hutts palace,...

The Star Wars franchise is being added to year after year with brand new live-action shows launching on Disney+. However, while this serialized storytelling has proven to be a success for Disney and Lucasfilm, the formula had already been worked out in the world of animation years before the first season of The Mandalorian was released. Star Wars has thrived in animation, with figureheads like Dave Filoni helping to guide the creative team.
Looking across the range of animated shows that have come from Lucasfilm and partner studios in recent years, it's easy to see just how much variety there is in terms of the characters being portrayed and stories being told. From genre-hopping to fantastical moments designed for deep lore building, these animated shows have taken risks that the live-action series and, indeed movies aren't able to. In Ahsoka episode 7, Ezra Bridger showcases his profound Force abilities that had been hidden until now, thanks to Ahsoka's teachings. Despite years without his lightsaber, Ezra's ideology has shifted, no longer relying solely on the weapon, but rather on his unwavering faith in the Force. Ahsoka's influence on Ezra goes beyond one interaction, as she frequently offered alternative perspectives, enriching his Jedi training and preparing him for unexpected challenges.
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Ahsoka episode 7!
With Ahsoka's seventh episode, die-hard Star Wars fans had a moment to remember. In this installment, we observed Ezra Bridger, a character whose journey through the Star Wars universe has been as enigmatic as it's been fascinating, exhibit the profound depths of his Force abilities. Din Djarin and the Children of the Watch lived by a very strict creed in The Mandalorian, and Star Wars proved that their helmet rule was wrong 1,000 before the events of the show. The idea of Mandalorians never removing their helmets was a strange concept from the beginning that seemed to clash with the Mandalorians seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. The Mandalorian season 2 explained this by revealing the Children of the Watch as a separate Mandalorian sect that sought to reestablish the ancient way. Unfortunately for them, their helmet rule wasn't as ancient as they thought.
The Mandalorian gradually challenged the Watch's traditions as the show went on, but another Star Wars project had already debunked the helmet rule a year before the show premiered. It offers additional proof that the basis of the Watch's beliefs is flawed, as it doesn't take into account...

In 2017, Lucasfilm launched an animated series called Star Wars: Forces of Destiny - and here's how the episodes fit into the Star Wars timeline. George Lucas always believed Star Wars was primarily aimed at children; Lucasfilm has always understood this, carefully positioning most of their content to be available to all ages. But occasionally, the studio has released content that's geared straight at younger viewers, hoping to encourage them to engage with the Star Wars galaxy.
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is one such example. Running for two seasons from 2017 to 2018, Forces of Destiny is an animated microseries. Episodes are scattered around the entire timeline, and all are focused on female heroes - notably Rey, Leia, Sabine, Ahsoka, and Padmé. None of the stories are essential viewing, but they're short and entertaining - and all available on YouTube. Here's how the two seasons fit into the Star Wars timeline.

A monster attack on Echo Base was cut from The Empire Strikes Back but was finally made canon after 37 years. The first draft of The Empire Strikes Back featured a Wampa invasion of Echo Base, a big step up from just one of the creatures attacking Luke Skywalker at the beginning of the film. Although the entire sequence was filmed, it was ultimately cut from the movie and was considered non-canon ever since. However, the sequence was finally released as a deleted scene on the 2011 Star Wars Blu-ray set, giving fans a glimpse of what the Wampa attack would have been like.
Disney went even further by making a Wampa attack on Echo Base canon in 2017. While not exactly the same as the original deleted scene, it's clear that the team behind the new story was directly inspired by the original version of The Empire Strikes Back. Another deleted scene...

Jyn Erso was instrumental in stealing the Death Star plans during Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but the heist on Scarif was not the first time she aided the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars canon. While much of Jyn's life between Saw Gererra finding her and the events of Rogue One was not fleshed out during the film, other projects in Star Wars canon have divulged the more significant events in her life. Due to her upbringing by Saw, Jyn was constantly around Rebellion activities, if only on the more extremist side of Saw's Partisans.
The Partisans did not officially work with the Rebel Alliance during the Dark Times of the Star Wars galaxy, but their goals often aligned. This has been shown at length with Saw Gererra in Star Wars, often using more extreme methods to reach the same purpose as the various rebel cells part of the fledgling Alliance.

The Star Wars franchise under the Disney regime has, without a doubt, had its highs and lows with fans and general audiences alike. The star of the sequel trilogy, Daisy Ridley, has said that offers have seldom come her way since taking the role. And what was meant to be a star-making vehicle for Alden Ehrenreich after being the lead in the spin-off prequel, Solo: A Star Wars Story, was met with indifference as the behind-the-scenes drama overshadowed the film and Ehrenreich has been steadily working on more low key projects.

Disney+ has found its Ezra Bridger. Eman Esfandi has been tapped to play the animated character in Disney+’s live-action Ahsoka series, sources have confirmed to Deadline. Lucasfilm declined comment.
The Ezra Bridger character was first introduced as the protagonist in the animated Star Wars: Rebels series in 2014, voiced by Taylor Gray. The character returned in Lucasfilm’s 2018 Star Wars: Forces of Destiny animated series with Gray reprising his role.
Ahsoka, Disney+’s spinoff of The Mandalorian, stars Rosario Dawson as the titular Ahsoka Tano. Written by Star Wars Rebels co-creator Dave Filoni and executive produced by Filoni and Jon Favreau, the series will continue Ahsoka’s story. Cast also includes Ray Stevenson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren from the Star Wars Rebels animated series, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Hayden Christensen also is expected to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

2020, cursed year that it was, represented the first turn of the calendar since 2009 that did not feature an entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Star Wars: Forces of Destiny season 2 has arrived, with Hera, Sabine, and more heroes getting the spotlight on some of their untold adventures. We may eventually get more than one Star Wars movie a year – given how many projects are currently in the works – but outside of theaters, there’s already a surplus of content. Along with more Star Wars comic books and novels, Lucasfilm is expanding its efforts to explore new stories set in a galaxy far, far away on the small screen.

Rose Tico and Luke Skywalker’s fuzzy friends, the Porgs from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, are among the new characters making their debut in Lucasfilm’s online animated series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. Making its debut with a series of 16 three-minute shorts, Forces of Destiny debuted online last July, featuring narratives highlighting such heroines of the Star Wars movie series and animated TV series as Princess Leia, Padme Amidala, Rey, Jyn Erso and Ahsoka Tano. Created with a young female audience in mind as a way to introduce them to the Star Wars universe, Forces of Destiny in most cases featured the voices of the stars who originated the roles in live-action or elsewhere, including Natalie Portman, Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones and Ashley Eckstein.

The animated series Star Wars Rebels has done a pretty impressive job filling in the story gap between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. But now the that the series is soon coming to an end doesn't mean we won't see the beloved characters appearing elsewhere in Star Wars canon.
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is a series that focuses on various female characters of the Star Wars galaxy from all eras of the saga, we've seen animated shorts on TV and Youtube, and now the first comic in the series will shine a light on Leia Organa and her adventures within the Rebel Alliance. Star Wars: Forces of Destiny – Leia #1 hits shelves this week, and a sneak preview of the debut issue has revealed that a certain Star Wars Rebels character spent time with Princess Leia on the ice planet Hoth before the...

Disney has released the first two animated shorts in the next wave of Star Wars Forces of Destiny films, which brings back Daisy Ridley as Rey. The short film helps fill in a brief gap from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, showing what happened aboard the Millennium Falcon as Rey and her new friend Finn (John Boyega) went to Maz Kanata's (Lupita Nyong'o) castle with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). Unfortunately, Harrison Ford and John Boyega don't provide the voices of Han Solo and Finn for this animated short, but it shows that they ran into some trouble on their way to Maz Kanata's castle.
This new short film is called Tracker Trouble, which debuted on the Disney YouTube page, reveals that something goes wrong with the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon. Rey asks if they scanned for trackers before taking off, and while Chewie says he did,...

Ah, the wonders of animation.
While fans have been waiting a whole year since Rogue One for The Last Jedi to arrive in cinemas, Disney and Lucasfilm have delivered two entire seasons of cartoon webseries Star Wars: Forces of Destiny to fill the gap. The collection of two-minute shorts focuses on the women of the Star Wars universe and debuted to a positive response from viewers over the summer. Now, the second season is just days away, with this brand new trailer teasing what’s in store.
From what we understand, the new run will feature more feminist-themed adventures for characters already seen in the previous season, including Rey, Jyn Erso, Princess Leia, Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano and Padme Amidala. As the trailer demonstrates, fresh heroes and heroines will also be brought into the mix as well, like Finn, Hera Syndulla, Han Solo and Maz Kanata (following on from Lupita...

Driven by its female stars, the three-minute installments featured the likes of Princess Leia, Rey, Jyn Erso, Padme Amidala and Ahsoka Tano. Not to mention Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and more in supporting roles. Thankfully, the familiar faces will keep on coming in the upcoming season, as two more big names have been added to the line-up.
Jedi News are reporting that the latest issue of Star Wars Insider features an interview with Lucasfilm Story Group member Cassie Beck, who reveals that both Finn and Han Solo will make appearances in upcoming Forces of Destiny episodes. Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, an animated microseries focusing on the women of the Star Wars universe, was a surprise announcement back at April’s Celebration. Within a couple of months, though, the series was already being released – on both YouTube and the Disney Channel – and seemed to be quite well received.
Fans of the show will be pleased to know then that season 2 will be just as quick in getting onto our screens. While talking with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jennifer Muro revealed that Forces of Destiny will return in October. She dropped the news when asked which characters would be appearing in the next run.
“I wish I could tell you! You’ll find out in October. It’s been announced that we’ll see Hera [from Star Wars: Rebels], which will be great. I think people will enjoy seeing the characters in the second season.”
Muro also chatted about the positive fan reaction to the series,...

Feeling a little bit of impatience while waiting for Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Already combed through all of the bonus features on the Rogue One Blu-ray? Watched all of Star Wars Rebels? Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny is a new series of animated shorts about the female characters of the Star Wars universe that feature the actual actors reprising their roles (for the most part), and Disney released the first episode online earlier this week. Starring Daisy Ridley, the short—titled “Sands Of Jakku”—takes place shortly after Rey meets Bb-8 in The Force Awakens, and it could fit so easily into that movie’s story that it might as well be a canonical deleted scene. Plus, it gives Star Wars fans a chance to see something else happening on the sand-covered dump that is Jakku other than people salvaging junk from crashed spaceships or getting an unfair number of portions from Unkar Plutt.
Future shorts will star Leia, Jyn Erso from Rogue One, Ahsoka from Clone Wars, and Sabine from Rebels. Maybe the’ll even get Captain Phasma in there at...

And this short finally answers one of the many questions from The Force Awakens.
The first episode of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny arrived a bit early on the Disney YouTube channel, though, it was scheduled to go up today anyway. "Sands of Jakku" is going to roll out today online and will debut on July 9 on Disney Channel.
