At first, Aiyaary seems less seamless than it actually is. Where is all this leading to? Many think he is just a pretty face. But since his debut in 2012 with Student Of The Year, Sidharth Malhotra has constantly striven to disprove the belief that goodlooking people can’t act. Here is his 6 bravest efforts.

1. Ek Villain (2014): Though ‘villain’ Ritesh Deshmukh walked away with the critical acclaim, Sidharth as the grieving hero packed in a certain mount of florid intensity combined with some terrific stunts. This was one Malhotra’s earliest successes. Interestingly in his other release Hasee Toh Phasee the same year Malhotra happily allowed Parineeti Chopra to take centrestage.

Actress Rakul Preet Singh, who made her Hindi film debut in 2014 with romantic film ‘Yaariyan’ on Wednesday reflected upon her journey of 10 years in Bollywood, and said that it took hard work, perseverance, and consistency to reach where she is today.

After making her acting debut in 2009 in Kannada movie ‘Gilli’, Rakul Preet has featured in movies like ‘Keratam’, ‘Yuvan’, ‘Puthagam’, before making her Bollywood debut with ‘Yaariyan’, alongside Himansh Kohli. She played Saloni in the Divya Khosla Kumar directorial movie.

Now, on 10 years of the film’s theatrical release, Rakul took to her Instagram, where she enjoys 23.5 million followers, and shared snippets from the movie ‘Yaariyan’.

Along with the pictures, she penned a note, which read: “10 years ago, when I had first stepped in Bollywood, I was just a young girl with big dreams. It took me a decade of hard work, perseverance, consistency to reach where I am today.

It was undoubtedly one of the best years for the Hindi film industry as 2023 saw many blockbusters and superhits across the spectrum of scale, budget and genre. While global megastar Shah Rukh Khan set the cash registers ringing with ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’, Sunny Deol too flexed his power at the box-office with ‘Gadar 2’ and currently the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer; Animal’ is having a dream run at the box-office.

The year 2024 too has many films in the pipeline which are highly awaited. Many of these films are a part of successful franchises across genres which lend them a greater degree of assurance in terms of success as legacy films mostly do well.

The upcoming film ‘Auron Mein Kaha Dam Tha’ has locked its cast. Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Saiee M Manjrekar, and Shantanu Maheshwari have signed the dotted line for the film, which will be directed by Neeraj Pandey.

This film will be Pandey’s first directorial in 5 years after his last ‘Aiyaary’. The film is touted to be a musical journey spanning over a period of 20 years, and is set between 2002 and 2023. Sources have shared that the film will be shot extensively in some exotic locations across the globe.

The film pairs Saiee M Manjrekar with Shantanu Maheshwari of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ fame. Saiee was earlier seen opposite Telugu actor Adivi Sesh in the tri-lingual release ‘Major’, which was based on the life of India’s national hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was martyred in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Tabu and Ajay can be seen in the recently released theatrical film ‘Bholaa’ directed by Ajay himself.

Mumbai, March 23 (Ians) TV and film actress Juhi Babbar is a huge fan of her father, veteran actor Raj Babbar and said that she highly appreciates the negative characters played by him. She added that among many of his films, she is most fond of the 1982 romantic drama ‘Nikaah’.

Actress Rakul Preet Singh reveals she will have a working Holi this year.

"I am shooting on the day of Holi," she informed when asked about her Holi plans, before getting nostalgic about how she spent the day of colours as a child. "We used to play a very nasty Holi in my childhood. People would throw eggs on me! I stopped playing Holi in class IX or X, because you become aware of how much water is wasted. It's not worth it and it damages the environment. Since then, I've only played dry Holi, I meet my family and friends and eat a lot of sweets and other dishes," she recalled.

Actor Sidharth Malhotra says he drew inspiration from Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan's performances in order to essay his larger-than-life role in the upcoming "Marjaavaan".

"You don't do larger-than-life things in real life. I am fighting with 10 people at the same time and I am breaking things (in the film). I have been a fan of (Amitabh) Bachchan saab or Shah Rukh (Khan) sir, who have played such roles successfully in their careers. Actress Rakul Preet says she hasn't made a name for herself in Bollywood, and still has a long way to go.

Rakul made her acting debut in 2009 with Kannada film "Gilli". She ventured into Bollywood in 2014 with "Yaariyan" and was later seen in "Aiyaary" in 2018.

"I don't think I have yet made a name for myself in Bollywood. I don't think I have done anything. In fact, I always keep saying that the fact that 'I am an actor' has not sunk in my head. I have been in this industry, in films for five to six years now," Rakul told Ians in an e-mail interview.

She added: "Having done so many films even in the south, I mean I take my job seriously, but I don't take the fact that I am an actor seriously."

The 28-year-old actress loves her job, and wants to continue doing it with the same passion.

Actress Rakul Preet Singh says teaming with veterans like Ajay Devgn and Tabu in Luv Ranjan's De De Pyaar De made her work harder. Ajay and Tabu are playing special roles in the film. "Working with two such amazing, fine actors makes you push your envelope. And I just can't wait for it to come out. Now I'm just counting days for the release," Rakul told Ians in an email interaction. The film will be out in May.

"I am very excited for that film, because the role is amazing and there is a lot of prep that has gone into that role.. for the way I look and from the character point of view," Rakul said.

BollywoodSo what happens to the small but significant films, the kind that has always struggled for space? IANSSubhash K Jha  My old friend and sensitive filmmaker Onir is heartbroken. This week his latest film "Kuch Bheege Alfaaz" bravely and defiantly produced by the music giant Saregama's film branch Yoodlee Films, opened in shows at the most unearthly hours in selected multiplexes, while all the primetime shows went to "Padmaavat", "Pad Man" and "Aiyaary". This is known as the big fish eating up, or at least sidelining, the small fish. Only the mighty survive. I've seen so many "small" films with a large heart being a victim of theatre-timings. How many people actually saw the highly-lauded "Masaan" or "Newton" in movie theatres? So what happens to the small but significant films, the kind that has always struggled for space since Bimal Roy made "Kabuliwala" and Raj Kapoor made "Jagte Raho"? Today, when the number of theatres has grown so dramatically and the theatres are sophisticated venues of enjoyable engagement, the small significant cinema is still suffering in silence. Last year there was Milind Dhaimade's "Tu Hai Mera Sunday" that big-little charmer. It was one of the odd gems which we are lucky enough to get at least once a year in our cinema-going experience. That film got cent-per cent positive reviews with critics raving over the work. But did it help? No. Why would a critically acclaimed film not get an audience? Because critics seldom make a difference to a film's boxoffice destiny. If they did, the Oscar-nominated films would be flooded with audiences. Instead, theatres across the country screening Guillermo del Toro's "The Shape Of Water" and earlier Paul Thomas Anderson's "Phantom Thread" wore a gloomy, deserted look while "Black Panther", the comicbook contraption of hideously inflated dimensions conveyed a seriously festive look as audiences clapped and cheered at the 3D monstrosity where everyone and everything was larger than life. Well, if that's what the ticket-paying audience wants, can theatres ignore the demand? It is all very simple, really. If you want to conquer the masses through a movie, fill the theatre with sound and fury signifying "nothing" beyond the "something" that cinema was always meant to convey. As for Onir and his "Kuch Bheege Alfaaz" it must find an audience beyond the massive infrastructure of the film bazaar. Maybe the internet is a solution. But then I saw this delicate fragile tender film first on the small screen and then in the cinema. All the delicacy, fragility and tenderness is lost on the small screen. So what do we do? Where does Onir take his creative impulses? This is a question which has not found an answer since the beginning, all those who are unable or unwilling to do mainstream cinema.  ...

From the first scene in his debut film, audiences knew that they were seeing a very special actor that would go far and have a long career. That movie was Student of the Year and the actor – Sidharth Malhotra. After posting minimal decreases, and facing minimal competition, Sony's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has proven to be a box office hit, winning the last three weekends in a row, although that streak is likely in jeopardy with the release of 20th Century Fox's The Maze Runner: The Death Cure. This final installment of The Maze Runner trilogy, which follow the young group known as the Gladers trying to take down the organization known as Wckd, is poised to topple Jumanji, while Entertainment Studios' Hostiles will be expanding nationwide and could make a sizeable dent at the box office. We're predicting that the Gladers will finally take down the gamers of Jumanji, opening with a solid $26.1 million this weekend, which continues the slight downward decline of this franchise.

After losing its first two weekends to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Sony's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has turned into an unconventional blockbuster, winning at the box office for its third weekend in a row. The action-adventure starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson posted another minimal drop this weekend, dipping just 28.7% last weekend to remain atop the box office with just over $20 million, beating out three newcomers, Warner Bros.' 12 Strong, Stx's Den of Thieves and Roadside Attractions' Forever My Girl, none of which could match up to Jumanji this weekend. While its impressive run may be coming to an end soon, this remake has put up some impressive numbers.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has pulled in an impressive $316.9 million at the domestic box office in just five weeks, with an additional $450 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $767.7 million, from a $90 million budget.

After opening behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi in its first two weekends at the box office, Sony's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has come on strong by winning its next two frames in a row. This blockbuster adventure faces its biggest test yet this weekend, going up against three newcomers, Warner Bros.' 12 Strong, set in the direct aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Stx Entertainment's Den of Thieves, starring Gerard Butler and 50 Cent, and Roadside Attractions' Forever My Girl, starring Alex Roe and Jessica Rothe. While it certainly may be a close call at the box office this weekend, we're predicting that 12 Strong will barely be able to take down Jumanji with $16.2 million, with Jumanji close behind earning $15.8 million.

‘Padmavat’

Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial period epic Padmavat has been granted a censor certificate and secured a release date on January 25.

Viacom18 Motion Pictures will release the film in India, while Paramount Pictures International is handling the international release.

The film, based on an epic poem about India’s Rajput kings, was originally scheduled to open globally on December 1, 2017. However, Viacom18 delayed the release when the religious controversy that had plagued the film since it was in production started to escalate.

Local religious groups, aligned with a warrior caste that traces its lineage back to the Rajput kings, claimed the film contained scenes that hurt religious and national sentiments. Some fringe members of the groups attacked the film’s sets when it was in production, and issued death threats...

It has been finally confirmed that Deepika Padukone- Ranveer Singh- Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmavat will release on January 25. The mega film will now clash with Akshay Kumar's Pad Man. So, the makers of Aiyaary have shifted the release date to February 9 to avoid the clash with two big films. As the Republic Day is too crowded, the makers have chosen to release the film on their previous date. Now, Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary will now clash with Luv Ranjan’s romcom, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. ControversyThe final 3D application of the film was submitted to Cbfc on Thursday (December 28).Ians   After months of uncertainty, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial Hindi film Padmavati will release on January 25 as Padmavat with a U/A certificate. It will clash with Akshay Kumar's Pad Man. "It will release as 'Padmavat' on January 25. The film has got U/A certificate," sources at the film's production banner Viacom18 Motion Pictures told Ians.  "Padmavati" -- now "Padmavat" -- was earlier slated for release on December 1 but the studio had voluntarily deferred it following a long-stretched controversy. The movie, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, has been mired in a row after the Shree Rajput Karni Sena claimed it distorted historical facts related to the Rajput community. The group has been persistent in its demand for a ban on the movie despite Bhansali's clarification before a Parliamentary committee that the row over the movie was just based on rumours. Last month, the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) -- in consultation with a special advisory panel -- decided it will grant U/A certificate to the movie but subject to five modifications, including title change. The makers were asked to add disclaimers -- one of them regarding not glorifying the practice of Sati and also relevant modifications in the song "Ghoomar" to befit the character portrayed. An official communication from team "Padmavat" regarding the final modifications has not been made yet. Its release date announcement led to a stir in the film trade circles. Film and trade business expert Girish Johar told Ians: "It's a complex situation for 'Padmavat'. They have too short a time before the release, plus there are hurdles for it as certain states have announced a blanket ban, and the Karni Sena continues to oppose the movie. "However, from the box office point of view, it's a great thing that two big films -- 'Padmavat' and 'Pad Man' -- will release on the extended weekend. It will be a huge weekend. Audiences will have a choice of both films. Obviously the better one will have a longer run." "Pad Man" will see Akshay Kumar take on the role of a real life hero who introduced low-cost sanitary napkins for the hygiene and safety of women in his village.
