A Marvel actor has recently returned for the fourth time, and it’s finally time for the studio to make her character officially part of the MCU. Marvel has spent over two decades developing the MCU into a well-respected franchise, and its success has meant that more heroes get to be in the spotlight. There is no shortage of niche characters from Marvel Comics, and having the substantial fanbase that they have means that the MCU can take bigger risks with the characters who get projects.
An obscure Marvel hero who has recently gotten a lot of attention is Squirrel Girl. She is currently featured as a playable hero in the new game Marvel Rivals, and many fans are taking an interest in Doreen Green’s story. She is voiced by actor Milana Vayntrub, who is best known for her roles in This Is Us and numerous AT&T commercials. The...

Marvel seems to come back to one actress over and over again, although they have yet to appear in live action. Marvel has been around for a long time, but its popularity on the big screen has peaked over the last two decades. With the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Marvel has had the opportunity to shine a light on dozens of the lesser known characters from its extensive roster in a variety of mediums.
This has been an outstanding factor in bringing the nerdy and geeky world of comics into the mainstream. However, even the McU's success has struggled to keep the largest franchise cinematic universe going on just the big screen, and Marvel has leaned in to producing more cartoons and video games to buoy up the diverse portfolio of content. But earlier in the run, there was one Marvel TV show that was greenlit for 10 episodes,...

This post contains spoilers for the first two episodes of "Agatha All Along."
"Agatha All Along" is off to a fantastic start. In its first two episodes, the new Marvel series delivered a pitch-perfect prestige crime drama riff, a sapphic showdown of "Killing Eve" proportions, and a whole lot of seasonally appropriate witchy mischief. It also introduced an onslaught of new characters, from the coven Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) forms to travel the Witches Road to the mysterious teenager accompanying them.
The most mysterious new characters are a group known as the Salem's Seven, who Aubrey Plaza's character Rio warns Agatha will come for her at sundown. When the group does arrive, they're portrayed as black-clad wraiths or other dark entities. They're freaky and fast-moving, dressed a bit like Satanic nuns, and the only hint of their identities we're given is via a quick close up of the shadowy,...

X-Men writers feared Avengers would ruin Firestar and Justice, impacting their portrayal in X-Men books. Firestar and Justice's absence in X-Men books was due to conflicts with their role in the New Warriors series. "Fall of X" helped rejuvenate Firestar's reputation, making her a fan-favorite character in the X-Men universe.
There was once a concern from X-Men's writers that two key heroes would be ruined by the Avengers. The on-panel feud between the X-Men and The Avengers that spawned its own heartbreaking Marvel event has been well documented. However, one feud that some fans may not know about is that between the writers of X-Men and the writers of Avengers.

Silver & Black was quickly taking shape at Sony Pictures a few years ago, with the idea being to pair up Silver Sable and Black Cat on screen before having them assemble as part of an all-female team of superheroes.
Scorpion, Tarantula, Chameleon, Tombstone, and Norman Osborn were all set to factor into Gina Prince-Bythewood's (The Woman King) movie. Alas, even after giving the green light to terrible movies such as Morbius and Madame Web, Sony reached a point where they decided this project simply wouldn't work.
Now, with Deadpool & Wolverine set to arrive in theaters, we're revisiting a plot leak for Silver & Black which takes us through what might have been beat-by-beat.
It had potential and, while Spider-Man wasn't going to factor into the story, we'd have rather sat through this than Madame Web or even this December's Kraven the Hunter! Find out what you missed by clicking...

Unlike their golden run on the big screen till phase 3, Marvel didn’t quite replicate its huge success on the small screen, with most of the Disney Plus MCU shows earning less-than-stellar reception. While fans have complained about MCU’s recent catalog being bloated following the abundance of TV shows, Marvel has also abandoned an overwhelming number of TV shows over the years.
This involves several renowned superheroes, including a Captain Britain show, which was greenlit long before the rise of Disney Plus and MCU TV shows.

Back in 2016, rumors regarding a Captain Britain show being in the early stages of development emerged. Poster artist Clara McAvoy claimed she was being paid to do a promo poster for it, assuring fans an official announcement might be heading our way in early 2017 or late 2016. Unfortunately, it never happened, leading many to speculate Marvel might have put the kibosh on it.

Quick Links Who Were the New Warriors Before the MCU? Why The McU's Young Avengers Needs to be Scrapped Why the New Warriors Are the Perfect Replacement for the Young Avengers The New Warriors has a long-reaching history within Marvel comics. The MCU’s New Warriors had potential before being prematurely canceled. The Young Avengers already proves to be a questionable concept at best.
With potential upcoming projects like the Young Avengers on the horizon and older ones fading away, it posits the question of what Marvel Cinematic Universe's New Warriors was intended to be. In the expansive cinematic universe Marvel created, there are inevitably ideas that don't materialize and plotlines that remain unresolved. Yet, amidst these changes and the passage of time, audiences are left wondering whether Marvel's future success lies in revisiting its abandoned past stories and characters.

Marvel has had numerous scrapped TV shows throughout its history, including potential adaptations of Namor, Black Widow and Daredevil, and Thor and Daredevil spinoffs. The 1978 TV film adaptation of Dr. Strange received negative reviews and low ratings, leading to the cancellation of plans for a spinoff TV show. Other canceled shows include a Captain America animated series, a Daughters of the Dragon live-action series, a comedic New Warriors TV show, and an animated Marvel Era series that would have celebrated Marvel's 75th anniversary.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a dominant force on television and in cinemas for well over a decade, yet Marvel has numerous scrapped TV shows that would have been fascinating to see. Marvel quickly cemented itself as one of the two most popular and influential comic publishers in the early 1960s when, thanks to characters like the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, Marvel challenged and defied the accepted norms of superhero fiction.

Marvel's Phase 4 and 5 have introduced powerful new heroes, and one of the strongest Avengers might be lurking off-screen in Ms. Marvel. Evidence suggests that the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl might have had a voice cameo in Ms. Marvel through the podcast This Powered Life. While there is no official confirmation, Squirrel Girl's upbeat demeanor and her ability to stop iconic villains make her a perfect candidate to appear in Ms. Marvel Season 2.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Adrianne Palicki recently discussed the ABC series' unrealized spinoff, Marvel's Most Wanted, hinting that she thinks canceling the show may have been a mistake on Disney's part.
Palicki starred on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Barbara "Bobbi" Morse, who Marvel Comics fans will also know as Mockingbird and/or Agent 19. During an interview with Den of Geek, the actor fondly recalled her time playing Bobbi Morse, saying she "loved" working on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and remains good friends with co-stars Ming-Na Wen, Henry Simmons and Nick Blood. Notably, Blood would have starred opposite Palicki on Most Wanted, which shot a pilot but was never picked up as a full series.

In these divisive times, it takes a lot to unite everyone, but Marvel Comics has done it. Earlier this week, they unveiled two new heroes: Snowflake and Safespace. The characters will be part of Luciano Vecchio and Daniel Kibblesmith’s New Warriors series and the company has been promoting Snowflake as their first non-binary superhero, with Kibblesmith explaining the pair as follows:
“Hyper aware of modern culture and optics, and they see their Super Heroics as ‘a post-ironic meditation on using violence to combat bullying. It’s this idea that these are terms that get thrown around on the internet that they don’t see as derogatory. [They] take those words and kind of wear them as badges of honour.”
It’s also worth watching him explain them in person, which feels like it might be lifted from a Christopher Guest movie:
The first non-binary superhero in Marvel and they named them Snowflake.

Marvel Comics have introduced some brand-new superheroes who are out to promote diversity. These characters are a part of the New Warriors reboot. Included in these new heroes is Marvel's first non-binary character and the response has been a bit on the mixed side, mainly due to the character's name. Daniel Kibblesmith and Lucciano Vecchio are the ones responsible for the recently revealed characters and they are taking them and mixing them with some old favorites.
Snowflake is the name of Marvel's first non-binary character, which isn't sitting well with a lot of people at the moment. While Daniel Kibblesmith is trying to take the word back, it doesn't come off that way. Snowflake has become a derogatory term over the past few years, used for calling someone out for being too sensitive. Making matters worse is the fact that Snowflake has a twin named Safespace. While you may assume that the Avengers, the Fantastic Four or the X-Men are the strongest group of superheroes in the Marvel universe, one team has them beat, at least according to a new theory over on ScreenRant. Based on the individual and combined powers of the characters, the theory goes that the Great Lakes Avengers are actually Marvel’s secret MVPs. With most of its members not widely known though, it’s worth looking at the team in more detail to see if the idea holds up.
For those not in the know, the Great Lakes Avengers began as a semi-serious and unofficial band of superheroes based out of Madison, Wisconsin. Originally tied to the West Coast Avengers title, the Gla were initially taken to task for borrowing the Avengers name, but were revived in Dan Slott’s Gla Misassembled miniseries, which brought in some heavy hitters to make them a legitimate force.

It seems Squirrel Girl is out of her tree, at least temporarily. Although they picked up the 10-episode first season of Marvel's New Warriors TV show back in April of 2017, Freeform has now cancelled its order for the half-hour live-action superhero comedy. THR reports that since Freeform has declined to move forward with New Warriors, Marvel is shopping the series to other outlets in preparation for a 2018 release. Marvel's New Warriors centers on "...six young people learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates." The last we heard, the cast includes Milana Vayntrub as Doreen Green a.k.a Squirrel Girl; Derek Theler as Craig Hollis a.k.a Mister Immortal; Jeremy Tardy as Dwayne Taylor a.k.a Night Thrasher; Calum Worthy as Robbie Baldwin a.k.a Speedball; Matthew Moy as Zack Smith...

Over the last few years, Marvel has enjoyed a lucrative partnership with streaming giant Netflix, producing successful shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, which recently crossed over in The Defenders (one of the fastest-watched original series on Netflix). Fans had been hoping that more and more comic book characters would be added to this line-up going forward, but a new report suggests that this is definitely not going to happen.
First off, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Marvel’s upcoming comedy series New Warriors is no longer set to air on Freeform, as was originally announced. Apparently, this is due to scheduling conflicts at the network and while discussing where else the show – starring Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl – could end up, the site disclosed that its “sources” suggest the possible options may be limited. That’s because according to THR, “Disney-owned Marvel is no longer able to sell to outside companies.

Marvel's has been developing a series adaptation of their comic New Warriors and it was originally set to air on Freeform. That's all changed now. The series will no longer air on Freeform and according to THR, Marvel is now trying to find a new home for it.
Apparently, Freeform couldn't seem to find a slot in their schedule for next year to fit the show into. Marvel has screened the pilot episode for test audiences already and according to the report, it's testing through the roof and has caught the attention of high-level Disney executives. That's a good sign! Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment said:

Marvel has planted its seeds far and wide over the past few years in the television landscape, but that volume has so far yielded mixed results.
While rival DC has found success by focusing on familiar franchises like “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Supergirl,” and the Batman origins tale on “Gotham,” Marvel has been a bit more stingy with its marquee characters. For example, ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” lives in the world of the Avengers, yet never became a hit partly because it focused on lesser-known characters.
But that’s not always a hindrance. Many of Marvel’s Netflix series, especially “Jessica Jones,” have been critically acclaimed partly because they felt like they hadn’t been overly mined previously. It takes a visionary showrunner, in this age of so many superhero tales, to bring a fresher take to the genre and keep interest high.

If Netflix continues to mine the Marvel seam, which characters might come in for the Defenders treatment next?
The Marvel-Netflix deal might have met its initial goal with the broadcast of crossover series The Defenders, but there’s no stopping that particular gravy train - future seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist are already on their way.
See related Here's your first look at Murder On The Orient Express
Marvel has already shows its willingness to add new characters to their roster of heroes with a Punisher series due to drop this year, and deals like New Warriors and Cloak & Dagger show that they’re not afraid of pushing D-listers into the spotlight to see what takes. So with the obvious choices already taken care of, we couldn’t help wondering: which characters should make up a second wave of Defenders shows?

Legendary character actor Keith David has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming series New Warriors! This will reunite David with showrunner Kevin Biegel. They worked together on the 2014 series Enlisted.
According to THR, David will take on the role of Ernest Vigman, "a caustic municipal employee who butts up against the hopeful energy of the new warriors." This will be a reoccurring role in the series. I'm such a huge fan of David and his work whose film career pretty much started with John Carpenter's The Thing.
David will join Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us) as Squirrel Girl; Derek Theler (Baby Daddy) as Mister Immortal; Jeremy Tardy (Dear White People) as Night Thrasher; Calum Worthy (Austin and Ally) as Speedball; Matthew Moy (Two Brok Girls) as Microbe; Kate Comer as Debrii.

Marvel Television seems intent on giving us more shows based on their characters by companies not named Netflix. While in my view this is obviously a terrible idea, I'm just a guy living paycheck-to-paycheck who gets really excited for twice-a-month trips to Chipotle. The head honchos over at Marvel TV, though, have a New Warriors show to cast.
If you're unfamiliar with the New Warriors, keep your chin up. They debuted in the pages of Thor in 1989, had their own book for parts of the 90s, and then were subsequently completely killed off in 2006 in the opening chapter of Civil War. Of course, this being a comic book company, a new New Warriors later formed, but the show seems to be based off the original team. Sadly, we won't get to see them offed in Civil War since, you know, that movie already happened (and Kevin Feige's having nothing...

Earlier this year Marvel and Freeform revealed that character that would be included in their upcoming New Warriors series. Today they announced the cast that would be playing those characters. I've included that list below along with their character descriptions.
Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us) will play Squirrel Girl:
Doreen Green (Squirrel Girl)
Superpower: “The powers of a squirrel, the powers of a girl” (is acrobatic, strong, can fight, can talk to squirrels) Doreen is a totally empowered fangirl. She is a natural leader—confident and tough, but not innocent. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Marvel and Freeform’s New Warriors series has filled out its cast, with Milana Vayntrub set to spearhead the ensemble as Doreen Green (Aka Squirrel Girl).

Original Story:
Marvel is continuing in its slow domination of the universe. It started modestly enough in 2008 with Iron Man, and has since taken over the cinemas in a huge way. Similarly, they’ve stretched their reach to the TV front, starting with networks like ABC. Soon after, it expanded to Netflix with shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, among others (all of which will culminate in a Defenders series later this year). More recently, Marvel has turned to more specific targeting of their deomographics, with shows like Cloak and Dagger and New Warriors landing on the “tween” channel Freeform.
