Movie: Bhaagamathie (UA): Action/Horror/Thriller - Telugu
BHAAGAMATHIE is the first film I've seen in theatre, first day first show. Plus, unexpectedly it was without subtitles! But I was able to understand the story and many of the dialogues.
Positives:
Anushka's performance is extremely mindblowing and realistic. She is the soul of the film and doesn't fail to impress. All other actors too deliver great performances. The screenplay of the film is watertight and razor sharp, and as a result it doesn't deviate at all. The thrills of the film are impressive and the film uses humour in some proportions, very well. The film manages to scare you right from the beginning, and as a result does justice to its genres. The production values are excellent, grand and top notch. The music by SS Thaman is melodious and exciting at the same time. The interval blockade is excellent and drew a lot of whistles and applause from viewers. Even I was left stunned and my mouth was left open. Some of the action blocks are also impressively done.
Negatives:
Seriously, nothing!
Repeat value: Yes
Overall, BHAAGAMATHIE is a highly entertaining action-horror thriller which has all the necessary elements to keep you hooked to the edge of the seat. Since I saw it without subtitles, I've got a reason to watch it again when subtitles will be available. But language barrier can be broken, and films from the southern filmmakers have already proven that. Even without subtitles, I had no problem in following the story and ended up enjoying it as a whole. Go, book your tickets soon!

Bhaagamathie is a perfect example of a film that starts in one vein and ends in another. Borrowing elements from films like Manichitrathazhu (1993) and The Usual Suspects (1995), it narrates the story of a murder convict and former IAS officer Chanchala (Anushka Shetty) who is locked inside a haunted mansion by the CBI so that they can question her about a minister (Jayaram) who they think is corrupt. With shades of the horror genre evident in the cinematography (jump scares) and the background music, the film situates itself on a plot that is crooked at best. Why would CBI choose such a location even when they don't want publicity? The contrived nature of the plot plays against the purpose of the film as the discerning viewer is already fed up with convenient storytelling. However, if you ignore this nature, Bhaagamathie can turn into a passable affair as pretty-faced Shetty leads the show with her subtle performance, supported heavily by the electrifying Jayaram. The first half manages to create a setup that you will expect more from in the second half, but unfortunately, it dilly dallies around for long before expediting the wrapping process. At the end, there are just one too many twists and turns for one to follow, giving you a feeling that Bhaagamathie is more of a cheap thriller than a horror film. If you have nothing better do and love either of the actors I mentioned, then this is a watchable film. Otherwise, skipping wouldn't hurt. TN.
Once you watch this movie, you can not simply go away without puting a review. This movie deserved a 10/10 vote since it has a excellent story, script, acting and back ground.
A very good acting from Anushka and the others. Specially Anushka performing a tremendous charactor here. I was wondering why she is acting like "not natural" with the doctor, while she is performing very naturaly with the other scenes. just realized at the end of the story.
And only negative from this, is what happens if "Sampath" the ACP, decides to take he to some other place than "Bhaagamathie Bungalow" ?
Overall a good Movie again.
Thanks to the Team Bhaagamathie.
I am a big fan of horror movies, and really like some classic ones like Pizza (Tamil) , Shutter (Thai) etc.
So I definitely wanted to see this movie irrespective of the ratings. It's a horror movie and it's got Anushka Shetty, what more can I ask ? Well, I should have asked for a more convincing script and non-cliched scenes !
Nevertheless I think you can watch this movie. It's extremely cliched , with the same old same old. Her acting is fantastic, and towards the end, with all the twists etc, you still want a more convincing story.
At times, it will also remind you of Manichitrathazhu ( or Bhool Bhoolaiya, if you must ) . Most of the movie will keep you interested, but if you are horror fan like me in general, you won't find the movie that scary. You will laugh at what you predict also.
Remarkable performance from Anushka. You rock the show beauty. Kudos to the director for the screen play. The hero material could have been used in some other way but that was not a spoiler in the over all screen play. Asha sharath stands unique as usual and those imagining this with Arundati will definitely have a surprise. As a whole awesome entertainment and the central stage has been capitalized by the outstanding performance of Anushka.
