This Hidden 'Rogue One' Detail in the 'Andor' Series Finale Will Break Your Heart
Image
Editor's note: This article contains spoilers for the Andor series finale.

TheAndor series finale is full of emotional punches, but one moment — barely noticeable unless you're a Rogue Onesuperfan — hits particularly hard. In the final episode of the critically acclaimed series, Andor prop supervisor Jonathan Wallace confirmed a heartbreaking detail: the blaster Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) carries is the same one Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) later uses to shoot Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) in the climax of Rogue One.

It’s a quiet but poetic throughline, tying together Cassian’s two most intimate relationships: the one he leaves behind and the one he dies for. In Rogue One, Cassian and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) die securing the Death Star plans — but now, thanks to Andor, we know the weapon Cassian wields was once in Bix’s hands, meaning it isn't just a weapon for the fully-fledged rebel, it’s a memory,...

'Andor' Creator Reveals Why He Included 'Star Wars' First Sexual Assault Scene
Image
Warning: This Article Contains Spoilers for Andor Season 2, Episode 3, "Harvest," and Contains References to Sexual Assault

When George Lucas brought Star Wars to life in 1977, he envisioned it to be a throwback to the serialized space adventures he watched growing up as a kid. As such, it was filled with wonder and awe, and was something that was meant to be an escape from the real world. Now, nearly fifty years later, it's clear that the franchise has evolved into a platform that can be used to bring awareness to real social issues. Nothing represents that fact better than Andor Season 2, which included a sexual assault scene that creator Tony Gilroy says was necessary because "the history of civilization is rape."

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly following the three-episode premiere of Andor on Disney+, Gilroy said he decided to include the first attempted rape scene in Star Wars' storied history because "it's a real thing.

‘Hathya’ Movie Ending Explained: Is It Based On A True Story?
Image
Every now and then, you come across a movie that is an unmitigated disaster and an assault on your senses, and you are left to wonder why it was made in the first place. Srividya Basawa’s Hathya achieves all this in its agonizingly long runtime. Satyajit Ray had once famously remarked, “We have a fairly backward audience here in India”. I think we have come a long way since his days. The average audience has been treated to some good cinema over the past few years, and, thanks largely to Ott, the Bollywood ‘star mob’ has been dismantled, with bona fide actors replacing nepobabies. We can tell good cinema from the bad now, and it’s criminally naive on the part of directors to presume us to be dumb. But Hathya does everything to overturn this conjecture despite its premise being the murder of an extremely high-profile politician from Andhra Pradesh.

‘Wicked’ Made $100M On PVOD, Says Universal Distribution Chief As Windows Debate Rages – CinemaCon
Image
Wicked made Universal in the neighborhood of $100 million on PVOD, cash it can use to make more movies, which will ultimately help exhibition, said Peter Levinsohn, Chairman, Global Distribution, NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios as the debate over exclusive theatrical windows dominates CinemaCon.

“We are a theatrical first company,” he said at at an industry panel at Las Vegas gathering alongside Regal Cineworld CEO Eduardo Acuna, Fi and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski and Neon CEO Tom Quinn.

“Theatrical is the foundation, it’s the underpinning of every single thing we do. It’s where the brand is created, and it is the proxy for value of all of the ancillary windows,” Levinsohn said. But “we need to be with consumers, and the consumer is not going to go to see every single movie in the theater.”

He said over the last few years the studio has fine-tuned its windowing, “which has made us more profitable,...

The Bionic Dream: How ‘70s Sci-Fi Predicted Today’s Tech and the Emotional Toll of Superpowers
Image
In the 1970s, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman captivated audiences with their thrilling stories of technological transformation.

Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers weren’t just crimefighters — they were icons of a sci-fi revolution.

The shows imagined a world where technology could augment human capabilities, turning ordinary individuals into extraordinary heroes.

(ABC/Screenshot)

But beneath the action and gadgets, they explored something deeper: the emotional toll of being superhuman.

Now, decades later, we’re living in a world that feels closer to their fiction than ever before. Advances in AI, robotics, and bionics are bringing the “bionic dream” to life.

All The Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Played On Her Eras Tour
Image
Taylor Swift‘s Eras tour has officially come to an end. The series of stadium jaunts began in March 2023 in the United States, stretching through the end of the year with an announcement of the re-recorded 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on the last night of the domestic leg in Los Angeles.

Right as she picked the tour back up in 2024, Swift flew from Tokyo, Japan to Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada (where she had previously performed) to watch her beau Travis Kelce and his NFL team the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl. She also had to take a brief hiatus after it was unsafe for her to perform in Vienna, Austria.

Throughout the almost two-year tour, she found ways to keep the show fresh and new for those who have been waiting since she opened in Phoenix, Arizona to see her. In the entire timespan of the tour, Swift...

‘Dune: Prophecy’ Seemingly Using an Ultra Successful ‘Game of Thrones’ Trope Has Hugely Backfired
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!Spoiler Warning for Dune: Prophecy Episode 2

If there’s one thing most fans will remember about Game of Thrones, it’s the number of explicit scenes in the earlier seasons. There’s a reason why they worked for the show, and as the series progressed, there were fewer bed scenes because the audience had become more interested in the politics.

Credits: Dune: Prophecy / HBO

While the graphic sequences added more spice and flavor to the story, this did not seemingly work when Dune: Prophecy incorporated it in Episode 2. It’s not surprising at all because the scene felt unnecessary and way too long for many viewers.

Dune Fans Aren’t Impressed With Episode 2’s Steamy Scene

HBO’s Dune: Prophecy serves as the prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune which takes place some 10,000 years prior. Many fans labeled the show as a veritable Game of Thrones clone as...

Image
20 Days In Mariupol, the Oscar-winning Frontline/PBS and Associated Press documentary, was one of the big victors at the UK’s prestigious Grierson Awards on Wednesday.

20 Days In Mariupol won Best Current Affairs Documentary and Best Cinema Documentary at the event staged at London’s Roundhouse (full winners below).

Other winners included Me and the Voice in My Head, Channel 4’s documentary spotlighting Joe Tracini, a comedian who lives with Borderline Personality Disorder. As well as picking up Best Single Documentary, Tracini won Best Documentary Presenter.

The Grierson Awards has found itself at the crucible of industry debate about the Israel-Gaza conflict after removing Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia as a patron amid a backlash over social media posts considered to be antisemitic.

The decision, first revealed by Deadline, sparked a boycott among members of UK television’s Muslim and South Asian community. Senior industry figures wrote to...

1 of the Best Fantasy Films Ever Made Is Now Streaming on Prime Video
Image
Guillermo del Toro's movies lean toward heavier themes; even his Pinocchio adaptation was more faithful to the grim version of the children's story. Fans still consider his 2006 film Pan's Labyrinth his best contribution to the dark fantasy subgenre.

Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth is now streaming on Prime Video. The film's cult following has only grown over the years, fueled by overwhelming acclaim from critics. Pan's Labyrinth is one of cinema's all-time best dark fantasies, an eclectic subgenre highlighted by fan-favorites Spirited Away, Coraline, Dark Crystal, The Crow, and the bulk of Tim Burton's movies. Del Toro described Pan's Labyrinth as a parable influenced by traditional fairy tales, a dark spin on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and The Chronicles of Narnia series. Set in 1944 Spain, the story of Pan's Labyrinth revolves around its female protagonist's fantastic adventures, juxtaposed with the real-world horrors of the Francoist regime.

“From the same minds who told you Xbox was winning”: Colt and Gaz of Septic Sauce Have Changed Their Minds and Are Now Admitting That Great Exclusives Are Important For Selling Consoles
Image
Septic Sauce, who supported Xbox’s multiplatform strategy that began earlier this year and argued that it was no longer just about selling consoles, seems to have changed its mind. The channel is now arguing the exact opposite, suggesting that keeping exclusives will lead to an increase in console sales.

Right or wrong, Septic Sauce’s Colt and Gaz are now arguing that Microsoft should have kept everything exclusive to the Xbox brand from the start, which they believe would have boosted console sales—even in Japan, the hometown of PlayStation.

Septic Sauce Drops Support for Xbox’s Multiplatform Strategy

PlayStation console owners continue to enjoy Xbox exclusives like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush, and they’re hoping for more in the near future. It looks like fans were right to expect that, as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be coming to PS5 in 2025, just a...

“Very kind of Austin not to kill people on set!”: Austin Butler’s Method Acting Comment Rubs Fans the Wrong Way After ‘Dune: Part Two’
Image
Austin Butler recently made headlines for comments about his intense method acting approach while portraying Elvis Presley in the 2022 biopic film Elvis. While promoting his new villain role as Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two, Butler discussed toning down the method of acting this time. When discussing his acting approach for Dune: Part Two, Butler explained that he set clear boundaries this time around to avoid losing himself entirely in the role. He made a deliberate decision to protect the well-being of those around him between takes, recognizing that extreme method acting can negatively impact family, friends, and colleagues off-set.

‘Wyatt Earp’ Writer Quits Guild Over Failure to Condemn Israel Attack
Image
A 56-year veteran of the Writers Guild of America West is becoming a Financial Core (Fi-Core) non-member over the union’s lack of official statement about Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel.

Dan Gordon, the writer of Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner and The Hurricane with Denzel Washington, is intending to inform the WGA West on Tuesday that he is renouncing his membership as a result of the guild’s silence on the Oct. 7 assault on the country that killed 1,400 people, many of them civilians.

“When you sit there and say there has not been an act of this magnitude, a tragedy of this magnitude befall Jewish people since Nazi Germany and you can’t find language to condemn it? And you’re writers? It’s staggering,” Gordon told The Hollywood Reporter. The scribe, who counts Highway to Heaven among his lengthy list of credits, said his adopted sister “just escaped...

Director of Netflix’s ‘Yellow Door’ Doc Talks Bong Joon-ho’s Early Days, Evolution of Korean Film
Image
For Korean cinema completists, Netflix’s forthcoming documentary Yellow Door: ’90s Lo-fi Film Club will arrive like manna from heaven when it launches worldwide on Oct. 27. Among the film’s many pleasures is the depiction of Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho’s previously unknown first film, a stop-motion animated short titled Looking for Paradise that he made in his home basement in 1992. But the documentary is ultimately about much more than that — it’s a love letter to movie connoisseurship itself.

Directed by noted documentarian and editor Lee Hyuk-rae (Sewing Sisters, 2020), Yellow Door takes viewers back to Seoul, South Korea in the early 1990s, when film clubs were popping up on local college campuses for the first time, providing young students with new cultural encounters and a platform to study the art of cinema. Much of today’s global boom in Korean film and television can be traced back to this formative,...

What’s Fi-Core? The Alternative to Being a Card-Carrying SAG-AFTRA Member
Image
For many up-and-coming actors, joining SAG-AFTRA means better pay, health care, and access to higher-profile productions. Membership in the acting guild is more or less a professional necessity for most actors trying to build careers in Hollywood. However, there is an alternative path for those looking to avoid the restrictions that accompany the benefits of union membership. The largely unspoken alternate option “Fi-Core,” short for Financial Core, could serve performers looking to maximize their potential for work, save money on initiation fees, and insure themselves and their families without fully committing to the guild.

The alternative exists because of a 1963 Supreme Court ruling which allowed nonunion auto workers to access perks from union advancements, so long as they paid fees for the “core benefits” they received from General Motors. This term established a new category of employees, less governed by strict labor-union policies and more free to hover between self-selection and group representation.

Review: All Creatures Great And Small In ‘Guardians 3’
Image
When Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, while inspecting a murky extraterrestrial region, pressed play on Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love” in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy”, it would have been hard to imagine that James Gunn’s space opera would ultimately lead to something as sincere, poignant and kinda cornball as the trilogy-ending “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3″.

But as Gunn has showed over the course of these increasingly soupy sci-fi spectacles, the genetically spliced DNA of his chaotic, cartoonish cosmic vision is a double helix of opposites. Breezy ’70s rock papers over extreme violence. Cynical exteriors cloak sentimental emotions. A ragtag group of outcasts, more so than even the cast of “Fast and the Furious”, talk a lot about “family” and “friends.” Against the odds, “Come and get your love” has turned out to be a legit invitation.

“Vol. 3” is a messy, overstuffed finale. But you rarely question...

Google Fi suffers data breach, customer info compromised
Image
San Francisco, Feb 1 (Ians) Google has confirmed that its cell network provider Google Fi suffered a data breach, which is likely related to T-Mobile’s recent security breach which exposed millions of customer records.

According to TechCrunch, Google Fi’s primary network provider informed the company that suspicious activity had been detected regarding a third-party support system containing a “limited amount” of customer data.

Last month, the US telecommunication provider T-Mobile has been hit again in a data breach, involving 37 million customers. This was the eighth time T-Mobile has been hacked since 2018.

The telecom company said in a US SEC filing that the “bad actor” started stealing the data, which includes “name, billing address, email, phone number, date of birth, T-Mobile account number and information such as the number of lines on the account and plan features,” since November 25, 2022.

Serenay Sarikaya in Fi (2017)
Hard-Fi’s Richard Archer: ‘It’s like we went a bit to the left so the right went Nazi Germany’
Serenay Sarikaya in Fi (2017)
For a second, it’s like 2005 has barged into the pub demanding respect. Richard Archer, singer with Staines’ indie rock massive Hard-Fi, arrives at a Thames-side Richmond boozer with his bright blue eyes flashing and the jaw-length hair he sported pre-pandemic shorn back to his classic indie bovver-boy cut. He’s as energised as he ever was when leading some of the most raucous gig scenes this writer saw that entire disrespected decade, when entire Academies would be bouncing right back to the (drunk dry) bar to clock-off clubland punk anthems “Hard To Beat” and “Living For The Weekend”. He was champion of the skint but shot-crazed, a roaring mouthpiece for the left-behind street stars of surveillance culture Britain.

The haircut is appropriate: it’s now 17 years since the band’s debut album Stars of CCTV ram-raided the UK charts, but Hard-Fi are undergoing a Semtex blast of popularity.

‘Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race 2×05’ Review
Image
Last week’s episode of Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race saw the mystery contestants being paired with some of the most iconic queens to ever appear on Drag Race. Sadly after being paired with the incredibly talented Gottmik, we saw Millie Von Sunshine being told to sashay away but before she could exit the building she had to reveal who was behind all the make-up. It turned out that it was none other than the amazing Jenna Ushkowitz who is probably best known for playing Tina in the hit musical series Glee! I do have to say it was quite sad to see Jenna leave the completion as her iconic lip-sync to “Dancing On My Own” will forever be one of the most memorable performances to come from this season but I do think the correct person was eliminated! On the other end of the competition, however, was...

‘Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race 2×03’ Review
Image
In the last episode of Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race, we saw Poppy Love continue her domination of the competition as she claimed her second win in two episodes! I personally, thoroughly enjoyed her performance of “Show Me How to Burlesque” from the iconic movie Burlesque where they showcase their incredible dance-based skills! On the other end of the completion was surprising Thirsty Von Trap and Electra Owl with the latter revealing herself to be the singer-songwriter, Taylor Dayne! In the first episode of this season, I was a bit disappointed in the fact that there was little to no theme that tied together each of the separate performances. There was some improvement last week when the idea of “dance” was used with the queens showing their own dance skills (specifically the aforementioned Poppy Love and Chic-Fi-Lay) but I did think that this theme was extremely...

Wireless charging stops for Pixel owners after Android 13 update
Image
New Delhi, Aug 20 (Ians) Google Pixel smartphone users were left in a lurch after downloading Android 13 as several of them were not able to use wireless charging after installing the latest operating system (Os).

The Pixel users wrote on discussion forum Reddit that wireless charging stopped working almost immediately after the Android 13 upgrade.

The problem appears to be affecting multiple Pixel models including the Pixel 6 series, but primarily the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 Xl, reports 9to5Google.

For Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owners, this could be an even bigger problem as they’re not allowed to roll back to Android 12 after updating to Android 13.

Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 owners can still roll back to Android 12.

Google was yet to issue a fix for this issue.

Those affected said that the problem happened irrespective of the charger being used.

Some Pixel users claimed that adjusting settings such as Adaptive Charging, as well as “forgetting...

Google to use 'patient data' to develop healthcare algorithms
Image
San Francisco, May 27 (Ians) Google has collaborated with the US hospital chain Hca Healthcare to develop healthcare algorithms using patient records, the media reported.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Google will have access to patient records from Hca, which operates 181 hospitals and more than 2,000 healthcare sites in 21 states.

"Hca would consolidate and store with Google data from digital health records and internet-connected medical devices under the multi-year agreement," the report said on Wednesday.

Google will store anonymised data from patient health records and internet-connected medical devices.

That data will be used to build programmes that could inform medical decisions made by healthcare providers, the report mentioned.

Not just Google, Microsoft and Amazon are also working in the field to analyse patient data and create such AI/Ml-based programmes, to foray into the $3 trillion healthcare sector.

Reports surfaced in 2019 that Google was gathering health information of millions of US...

Serenay Sarikaya in Fi (2017)
Google Fi offering $100 to non-VoLTE customers for an upgrade
Serenay Sarikaya in Fi (2017)
San Francisco, Dec 6 (Ians) Google Fi, a service by Google that provides telephone calls, SMS, and mobile broadband using cellular networks, Wi-Fi will stop activating non-VoLTE phones from January and it is offering a $100 credit to help customers upgrade their smartphones from the Fi store as well as activate it before December 31.

T-Mobile has already announced its own plans to phase out support for non-VoLTE phones starting in January 2021 and Google Fi, as a mobile virtual network operator (Mvno) that doesn't own its own wireless structure, has no choice but to follow suit. Fi works off of T-Mobile and US Cellular's networks, which means its customers will need to buy new phones, reports The Verge.

Google has informed its non-VoLTE customers via e-mail about this upcoming change. The limited-time credit will be available to assist customers with a seamless transition from 3G.

Subscribers with non-VoLTE compatible devices active on Fi...

Michael Ahr Dave Vitagliano Dec 8, 2019

Showrunner Naren Shankar and lead actor Dominique Tipper spoke to us from the set of The Expanse to tease elements of the coming season.

Dominique Tipper, who plays Naomi Nagata on The Expanse, was the very first interviewee we ever had on the Sci Fi Fidelity podcast back when we began in September of 2016, just when the Syfy show was getting started, and showrunner Naren Shankar visited with us in February of 2017 during season 2. Now, the two key players in the success of this space science fiction TV show join us once more from the set of season 5, which is currently filming in Toronto, to preview season 4. We asked them to tell us more about the storyline to come taking place on Ilus, the first planet encountered by humans beyond the Ring gates.

The first thing Tipper had to mention was the challenge for Naomi,...

‘Aquarius’ Renewal Chances Slim After Time Slot Downgrade – TCA
Last summer, NBC moved in to quickly renew the David Duchovny drama series Aquarius despite soft linear ratings. The show had gotten a dual rollout, with the entire season made available for streaming right after the series premiere on NBC. As the linear ratings eroded further following the renewal, Aquarius was moved from Thursday to the low-trafficked Saturday night.

For a second consecutive year, NBC has downgrading Aquarius‘ time slot, this time without a renewal in hand. The Charles Manson drama will move to Saturdays after the Olympics on August 27. In the most recent Live+7 ratings available, Aquarius logged a modest 0.6 in adults 18-49, up from 0.4 in Live+Same Day.

At TCA on Tuesday, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke did not sound optimistic about Aquarius’ renewal chances. “David and the talent are really important to us, and we’ll continue to support the show wherever we put it,” Salke said,...
