Try a new recipe, take a walk, call a friend you haven't heard from in a while, meditate and get in touch with your inner self. Maybe, just maybe, read a book? Do anything but waste your time. A glowing group of reviews (not the February cluster) ALWAYS signals a desperate attempt by hose involved in the film or their friends to pump air into a hopelessly flat tire....

This movie was really hard to connect to. It just seemed boring and pointless. 2/10.

I like a good slow burn thriller. I hate a glacially paced, poorly directed, sloppily written, amateurishly filmed mess. This one checks all those boxes. Add in a few pointless characters and silly subplots and you have the makings for a real stinker. Three out of ten is generous and is ONLY awarded for a decent performance from the female lead.

How someone could fund such a complete load of rubbish is beyond me, the film wasted 1.49mins of our lives and left us saying "what the hell was it about"

Just marriage drama. If that's what your into then this movie is perfect for you.
I expected some kind of a ghost story. Instead it was just a slow paced drama . The acting was so so.
An interesting haunting . N.

This movie started our suspenseful and interesting. As it went on, it unfortunately started to feel very drawn-out and a little bit all over the place. Some people are commenting that the movie didn't make sense - I think it did, but there were too many attempts at cliffhangers and twists and turns that it just lost my interest at some point. I stuck it out until the end but ended up feeling disappointed.

This movie was extremely disappointing.
Poor plot and character development Poor direction
It tricked me into thinking it would be good. I ended up confused at what was going on. I was extremely annoyed by the main character. I felt like the movie was based on her not opening a folder. I just wanted to scream, "Open the damn folder!". I actually did scream that. When she opened it nothing was really explained that wasn't obvious. Furthermore the summary was pretty deceiving too.
The story has been done plenty of times. The way it was presented on screen was not very strong or cohesive. I think a script rewrite and a tweak in direction could have saved this film.

I've been in the film industry for 19 years. I've judged a lot of films for festivals and had a film festival and I still have a virtual festival. So I don't like giving bad reviews, but unfortunately this was not a well made film. The filmmaker tried to make a film crossing to many genres and it didn't work. Was it a horror, drama, psychological thriller, infidelity, woman scorned? What was it? This was not done well. Hopefully the filmmaker learned some valuable lessons regarding genre and audience. Making a film for everyone means you've made a film for no one. So good luck watching this film.
Idk what this was and honestly I should have known better. This movie kept popping up in my recommended movies on Tubi or as I searching for something so after almost a week I gave in. However, as I stated I knew better because I read the description about 10 times each time I came across it and it literally reads...
"A struggling married couple stay at an Airbnb where the unusual homeowner informs them of a ghost story that comes with the house."......
And you know what, that wasn't a lie. They indeed are struggling, staying at an Airbnb and were told a ghost story by the homeowner whose unusualness was forced into the plot and by her acting.
This movie sucked, like literally sucked. It was all over the place and became muddled, lots of flashbacks that if not paying attention, you can get lost. I'm still confused if her therapy sessions were live (meaning during the stay at the bnb or also flashbacks even with the therapist being confronted).
Look, I don't want to spend anymore time on this review. Lots of fake reviews, heed the warning of the real ones and don't waste your time unless you're anything like me and gonna watch anyway because you just have to see for yourself and like to be tortured, ha. Good luck.

I wasn't familiar with many of the actors in this at first but recognized a few like Darby Camp and Michael Lombardi. Trailer looked interesting. Took a chance and watched. Glad I did. There is a lot to this film and I plan to rewatch because I know I didn't catch it all at first. Calm Before made me question things about characters and human motivation, marriage, mental health. And to me, if a movie makes you ask tough questions, it's definitely important and worthy to watch. Acting was impressive. I felt like I was in the main character, Gia's head, the girl who played the Wanderer was intense. All in all, I really loved the film though low budget. It didn't look low budget especially when you're caught up in story. Look forward to seeing anything else from cast or production team!

As a fan of psychological thrillers, I found this one to be unique. The twist and turns are not predictable...You almost feel as if you're in Gia's head and there's no escape.
The acting was superb, the setting was gorgeous, and the cinematography was insanely good.
Definitely check this one out.

For an indie film, this plays out with some high quality shots and cool choices of angles - camera work was great and artsy. I hadn't heard of Actors before, but was wowed by their performances ! I wanted to see a little more with the lady Helen but then it probably would have been 3 hours... maybe a sequel?! I'd watch!!!

This thriller definitely grabbed my attention and kept me in suspense waiting for the next unexpected turn of events. Contains those scenes that'll make you jump! Acting was convincing and a plot of twists and turns! Definitely a movie for those thrill seekers. A thriller containing elements of love, betrayal, secrets, and so much more!

This film may trigger you. It did to me, but only because I'd experienced certain things the main character had. However, I thought the characterization created empathy. And was realistic portrayal by lead actress Vanessa Ore. she was on par emotionally and I felt it. I wasn't a fan of her husband in it, because something about him seemed off from the beginning, his character, but by middle of film, you're starting to wonder (just like Gia) if you're reading it wrong or right. The film seemed to ask the question about who we evolve into depending on situation we are in. And how we still carry pieces of the selves we were in the past around with us, no matter how much we may want to forget them. If you're just looking for entertainment watch Marvel. If you're looking for something more intense - and stellar acting and artistic cinematography - you can't deny this film is it. Lastly, I love Jedi in the film. Brad Coffey may be my new man crush.

At first i was like, whatever. But I just kept watching...and watching...and...Well, you get it. Id probably have watched it for 5 hours had it kept going.
A little hidden gem of a relationship drama. The lead develops surprisingly well, far past a one-dimensional Lifetime trope (not that there's anything wrong with that).
The acting is clunky in places as happens when you're budget isn't 80 billion dollars. But overall far better than one might expect in a movie you've probably not heard about. And at times the leads were downright impressive.
If you're looking for a perfect, slick movie, it's not this one. But if you're down to get let a slow burn drama tell you a story and can appreciate the quirks of an off-Hollywood budget film, go for it.
Or if you enjoy Lifetime movies, this one isn't as "out there" as some of those, but it might scratch that itch.

"Calm Before" had me at the end of my seat the entire time. A fantastic film that had me guessing from beginning to end.
