Recent years have seen their fair share of behind-the-camera creatives trying to find their way out from behind the curtain, and sometimes the results are better than you would expect them to be. Conversely, think about Tyler Perry suddenly being in "Alex Cross" or "Don't Look Up" after years of mostly staying behind the scenes (or in drag for his own projects). Seeing a director in this position is not such an uncommon sight anymore, but it's not something just anyone can just do on command. "Special Ops: Lioness" fans were surprised to see Taylor Sheridan in the mix during season 2 of the Paramount series as he played Cody Spears in the tactical drama. His role was something the creative team debated for a while before giving it a go, and viewers responded positively to his presence on a fan-favorite series, which nods towards some of his notable past roles...

Zach Braff is heading back to where it all started: “Scrubs.”
Braff, who starred in the original “Scrubs” series from 2001-2010, has joined the cast of the reboot show, which is currently in development at ABC, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
The news comes months after news broke in December that a follow-up of the hit medical comedy is early development at 20th Television for ABC. “Scrubs” executive producer Bill Lawrence is attached to EP the new series, but he won’t be returning as showrunner as he balances his other series, including Warner Bros. TV’s and Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” “Ted Lasso” and “Bad Monkey.”
With Braff, who led the cast as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian, confirmed for the reboot, it can be expected that the new series will look towards casting the series’ additional stars, including Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes.

Italian drama event – the Italian Global Series Festival – kicks off this summer with a new awards offering. The Igsf organizers told Deadline they hope winning one of their new accolades will become the Italian equivalent of landing an Emmy. The U.S. has various awards for TV, the UK has the BAFTAs, France has the Césars, Spain the Goyas and so on. With Igsf’s Maximos, Italy’s TV folk will have a new chance to get their hands on some awards hardware.
Location and timing are crucial for any festival. The Igsf will be held in Riccione and Rimini in June – two popular summer beachside locales. Its first edition will feature nine world premieres including Italian dramas Alex Bravo, Poliziotto A Modo Suo and Noi Del Rione Sanità from Italy, epic Euro co-production Rise of the Raven, Spanish language drama Los Sin Nombre, and Who Almost Killed Melody? from Canada.

Prime Video has managed to build out several massive hits for itself. Reacher is one of the most successful series in all streaming. Superhero subversions like The Boysand Invincible are closely watched, while the dystopian video game Fallout became a quick favorite among audiences, gaining awards buzz and accumulating billions of minutes streamed for its first installment.
There is an argument to be made that the streamer, which gains a massive subscriber boost due to its direct connection with Amazon's delivery service, struggles outside certain avenues. The streamer is home to big action thrillers that would fit well on the big screen. Along with Reacher, Prime Video has The Terminal List, Alex Cross, and the Jack Ryan franchise. But with The Summer I Turned Pretty ending later this year, it resurfaces the idea that the platform has struggled to make much of its smaller originals and more scaled-down stories. The latest news reaffirms the argument.

Spoiler Alert !!!'1923' Season 2 Spoilers Ahead!
Around three weeks ago, Taylor Sheridan brought to an end yet another sensational story of his by concluding the second season of 1923, pulling a lot of strings out of which some sat beautifully while others struck tragically. In fact, from what I observed, I can’t help but feel like the brainbox went seriously biased with one character while completely destroying Alex.
Although Sheridan crafted almost all the arcs super interestingly, some of his decisions felt arguably biased to me, like he favored some characters over others. One of those ostensibly backed up by him included Jerome Flynn’s Banner Creighton, whose arc ended on a beautiful note after substantial character development, while Julia Schlapfer’s Alex continued to suffer.

Altered Reality places corporate scientist Oliver Cook at the center of a tale that loops obsession and regret. Cook’s breakthrough pill promises miraculous cures yet exacts a higher price when his daughter Katy vanishes without warning. The film shifts between the anonymous urban sprawl of its unnamed U.S. setting and the moss-draped corridors of Spring Manor in Georgia, where time fractures like a cracked mirror.
This sci-fi thriller folds into a family drama and a Faustian myth, asking what fragments of self we would sacrifice to rewrite loss. Director Don E. FauntLeRoy employs disjointed flashbacks that jolt viewers out of temporal comfort, echoing Jean-Luc Godard’s playful sleight of sequence in the French New Wave. Scenes drift between warm sepia tones and shadowed modern interiors, suggesting memory’s hazy hold.
The story probes grief’s ability to warp reality—Cook’s desperation to undo tragedy becomes its own perilous experiment.

The Eagles hit the nail on the head with their lyrics, “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave…” from Hotel California. That line has been playing on a loop in my head ever since I circled back to 1923 and rewatched Yellowstone with new eyes.
Watching these shows again with clearer eyes, it dawned on me that Kevin Costner wasn’t merely acting—he was the unsung architect, course-correcting, script-doctoring, and most likely rescuing Yellowstone from the narrative pitfalls Taylor Sheridan kept digging.

Suddenly, everything clicked—why the writing plummeted once Costner left the ranch, why the cast’s praise for Sheridan began to sound like they were reading from a script, and why the final episodes of both shows felt like watching a campfire sputter out under the weight of a downpour.

Spoiler Alert !!!'1923' Season 2 Spoilers Ahead!
The 1923 season 2 finale has finally graced the screens, and the result was just what many had been fearing all along. While the mastermind behind the fan-beloved Western, Taylor Sheridan, really racked his brains to figure out the most tragic way to carry the second season forward after the successful season one, he didn’t hesitate to make the ending as miserable as well.
Of course, the showrunner’s works are famous for their traumatic, brutal, and tragic elements, and the recently aired finale was drenched in the same as it brought about Alexandra’s previously blurry fate into focus. But while Sheridan ostensibly always hinted at the bleak turn of events awaiting her in the near future, I refuse to believe it had to be literal for the story.

Someone has to say it, so let that be me: Taylor Sheridan must have a full-blown kink for putting his female characters through hell, and I’m not talking mild inconvenience, alright. After that 1923 finale? It’s confirmed.
First, Elsa, in 1883, gets shot and dies narrating her own tragedy. Monica in Yellowstone has practically set up camp in emotional misery. And Alexandra? Girl’s out here surviving storms, shipwrecks, and long-distance heartbreaks like it’s the AFC Championship of suffering.
At this point, I’m convinced Sheridan writes pain like it’s poetry. Character arcs? Nah, he’s just drafting therapy bills in script form.

All’s fair in love and war! But now we’re starting to wonder if Taylor Sheridan skipped the memo on fairness. In 1923, our hearts were skillfully strung along, only to be shattered into a million pieces. Did any of us actually see the jaw-dropping twist with Alexandra ‘Alex’ Dutton coming?
Well, we mean, seriously, it felt like watching a train wreck in slow motion—and yet, there we were, glued to the screen, tissues at the ready. Damn, just when we thought Spencer and Alex’s reunion was the calm after the storm, Sheridan hit us with a gut-wrenching goodbye. We have seen tears fall and characters rise across Sheridan’s oeuvre—but this ending had me bawling like a kid who dropped his ice cream.

Well, there’s one thing that has always been sacred to me—emotional payoff. I mean, what’s the point of building up characters, nurturing tension, and weaving a tapestry of love, loss, and hope if you’re just going to toss it all away for the sake of some cheap drama? Taylor Sheridan once held a near-mythical status in television. With Yellowstone, he didn’t just create a hit — he built an empire. His gritty storytelling, morally complex characters, and modern neo-Western flair gave TV audiences something refreshing. Spin-offs like 1883 and 1923 followed, the latter especially grabbing attention thanks to its stellar cast featuring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.
But as 1923 entered its second season, something shifted.
Fans who were once glued to the screen began voicing their frustrations online. The tightly woven, emotionally resonant storytelling of Season 1 seemed to give way to over-the-top violence and unclear direction. Instead of narrative evolution, the season leaned on shock value. The emotional core that anchored the show? Fading fast.

Let’s be honest, anytime a Taylor Sheridan finale approaches, it’s not a question of if someone dies. It’s how many and how dramatically. And with only one episode left in 1923 Season 2, the Grim Reaper has clearly booked a group reservation at the Dutton ranch.
This is a man who once had a character shot, exploded, and buried all before the opening credits. No one is safe. But amid all the chaos, two things feel certain, Spencer and Teonna will live. Everyone else? Buckle up.
Brandon Sklenar in 1923 | Credits: Paramount+
There’s a long list of potential corpses and Sheridan doesn’t do half-measures. We’re predicting a finale soaked in poetic death, with just enough survivors left standing to carry on the family trauma. Let’s break it down character by character, because, well, everyone needs a survival guide when entering a Taylor Sheridan showdown.

The penultimate episode of 1923 season 2 was a bloodbath, with someone or the other dying in almost every scene. I believe if you are reading this article, you’ve likely already watched the second-to-last episode of the show and, therefore, based on episode 6’s ending, I have a few theories about what we can expect in the 1923 season 2 finale. So, with a spoiler warning, let’s jump straight to it.
Jacob May Die Next
I guess Banner Creighton’s men, Clyde and party, went a little overboard by killing the youngest Dutton, Jack, as soon as they encountered the lad in the woods. I mean, I expected such butchery from these evil men, but Jack could have at least survived till the finale to eventually die in Spencer’s arms, pushing him to the brink of madness. But with Jack gone, Spencer may need another catalyst, which makes me believe that...

Days Of Our Lives spoilers and updates tease Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins) might depart from Salem without revealing the truth about the baby.
It seems she could decide to leave Titan, keeping Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) unaware of his child-let’s explore the potential scenarios that could unfold.

Netflix’s ‘The Last Kingdom’ has carved out a reputation that places it among the greats, with some even calling it “one of the best in history.” Fans can’t help but draw comparisons to the legendary ‘Game of Thrones,’ and while HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’ attempts to rekindle the magic of its predecessor, many argue that ‘The Last Kingdom’ already does it and perhaps even better.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for 1923 season 2, episode 4.1923 star Julia Schlaepfer, who plays Alexandra on the show, warns that the worst has yet to come for her character this season. After being separated from Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) in season 1, season 2 sees Alex embarking on a journey to America on her own. After enduring inhumane examinations at Ellis Island as an immigrant, she is robbed and attacked in 1923 season 2, episode 4.
In an interview with TVLine, Schlaepfer teases that something worse is on the horizon. The actor breaks down Alex's thought process in the season so far, having passed the border control by herself and received "bits of kindness" from strangers along the way. She explains that Alex enters season 2 witha sense of naivety and believes that "she is through the worst of it" after having lost nearly everything of monetary value. However, Alex may have gotten ahead of herself. Check...

Although Matthew Fox is a fan-favorite Lost cast member, the star once took on a less favorable role in Alex Cross (2012). As the third installment in the Alex Cross franchise, the Rob Cohen-directed movie performed so poorly that it significantly impacted the entire franchise.
Alex Cross saw Fox play a sadistic serial killer named Picasso, drawing the attention of psychologist Dr. Alex Cross, played by Tyler Perry. The film will stream for free on Tubi starting April 1.
The film was considered a reboot, with Perry taking over from previous Alex Cross actor Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Unfortunately, the plans for the Alex Cross reboot were short-lived. The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics and audiences. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Alex Cross has a mere 11% approval rating from critics, and out of over 25,000 audience reviews, only 47% are positive. The consensus was that,...

Similarly, the storm that rocked Alex’s transatlantic voyage also is over — but the real hard stuff is to come for the Spencer’s pregnant wife.

If you’ve been following along with reviews, you know how much we love High Potential here at TV Fanatic.
We’re not alone; the series scored a well-earned second season, and it’s been one of the greatest and most successful new series.

The ship potential of High Potential’s other strong partnership is too good to pass up, and if the series has to take a slow burn approach with Morgan and Karadec, they don’t have to do the same with Daphne and Oz.

The genre of mystery has always hung its narrative prerequisites firmly on carefully placed clues and subtleties that clue in or mislead the audience throughout the film so that the reveal of the mystery or guilty party is a shock or surprise. With many classics of the genre, often this can be telegraphed too obvious too early, but the film's cinematic storytelling still holds audiences on the edge of their seats as they await how it plays out.

Created by Josh Schwartz, the series starts out by introducing audiences to Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), a troubled kid from Chino who ends up in jail after stealing a car with his older brother. When Ryan meets his public defender Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher), the big-hearted lawyer offers his aid ... and when Ryan goes back home only to discover that his mother has moved and left him behind, Sandy takes Ryan to live with him in the affluent Orange County. Despite initial concerns from Sandy's wife Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), Ryan fits in pretty well with the Cohens, immediately forging a friendship with her only son Seth (Adam Brody) ... and when he meets...

It’s an understatement that FBI: International‘s six-week winter hiatus has felt downright interminable for viewers — especially if you’re a fan of Special Agent Cameron Vo, played by original cast member Vinessa Vidotto.
When last we tuned into the CBS crime drama, the manhunt for Greg Csonka (played by Seal Team‘s Beau Knapp) led to Vo being shot. The bullet from Csonka’s henchman fractured Vo’s collarbone and hit a major vein, sending her into shock during surgery amid much blood loss. After adapting one of his plays, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, he rocketed into mainstream success and quickly became a prominent figure within Hollywood. He has since contributed to dozens of movies and TV shows as an actor, creator, director, writer, or producer. Perry's work has proven divisive, as many of his lowest-rated movies on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer have impressed audiences:

Aldis Hodge read that James Patterson turned down a seven-figure deal for Alex Cross — and he is impressed.
The actor, who stars in Prime Video’s Cross update based on the prolific author’s novels, told Buzzfeed that he didn’t know Patterson had done that until the story was published in The Hollywood Reporter in November.
“I was shocked, impressed and proud of that,” he said of Patterson’s reveal. “For me to step into these shoes, any time I step into a position of power or representation, it feels like a privilege and a responsibility that I’m honored to even be tasked with. I just want to carry that the right way.”
Hodge explained that he’s been lucky enough to be with the right team on the mystery-thriller series, citing showrunner Ben Watkins, who “prioritized celebrating all of the assets and facets of the Black community...

Prime Video’s Alex Cross brought James Patterson’s iconic detective to life, with Aldis Hodge stepping into the shoes of the brilliant and tormented investigator. Season 1 was packed with jaw-dropping twists, haunting villains, and plenty of mysteries that kept viewers guessing. Now, as we gear up for Season 2, let’s break down some of the biggest moments from the first season and what they might mean for what’s next.
What’s the Deal With Ramsey’s Creepy Mask?
One of the standout elements of Season 1 was Ed Ramsey, played by Ryan Eggold, and his unsettling mask. Every time Ramsey spoke to his online followers, he wore a bizarre mask of an ordinary-looking man—but it’s way creepier than it sounds.
Creator Ben Watkins explained that the mask was a nod to Ramsey’s dark inspiration: a real-life serial killer from Indiana who terrified people when Ramsey was a kid.
