Zach Braff is heading back to where it all started: “Scrubs.”

Braff, who starred in the original “Scrubs” series from 2001-2010, has joined the cast of the reboot show, which is currently in development at ABC, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

The news comes months after news broke in December that a follow-up of the hit medical comedy is early development at 20th Television for ABC. “Scrubs” executive producer Bill Lawrence is attached to EP the new series, but he won’t be returning as showrunner as he balances his other series, including Warner Bros. TV’s and Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” “Ted Lasso” and “Bad Monkey.”

With Braff, who led the cast as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian, confirmed for the reboot, it can be expected that the new series will look towards casting the series’ additional stars, including Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes.

Italian drama event – the Italian Global Series Festival – kicks off this summer with a new awards offering. The Igsf organizers told Deadline they hope winning one of their new accolades will become the Italian equivalent of landing an Emmy. The U.S. has various awards for TV, the UK has the BAFTAs, France has the Césars, Spain the Goyas and so on. With Igsf’s Maximos, Italy’s TV folk will have a new chance to get their hands on some awards hardware.

Location and timing are crucial for any festival. The Igsf will be held in Riccione and Rimini in June – two popular summer beachside locales. There is an argument to be made that the streamer, which gains a massive subscriber boost due to its direct connection with Amazon's delivery service, struggles outside certain avenues. The streamer is home to big action thrillers that would fit well on the big screen. Along with Reacher, Prime Video has The Terminal List, Alex Cross, and the Jack Ryan franchise. But with The Summer I Turned Pretty ending later this year, it resurfaces the idea that the platform has struggled to make much of its smaller originals and more scaled-down stories. Around three weeks ago, Taylor Sheridan brought to an end yet another sensational story of his by concluding the second season of 1923, pulling a lot of strings out of which some sat beautifully while others struck tragically. In fact, from what I observed, I can’t help but feel like the brainbox went seriously biased with one character while completely destroying Alex.

Although Sheridan crafted almost all the arcs super interestingly, some of his decisions felt arguably biased to me, like he favored some characters over others. One of those ostensibly backed up by him included Jerome Flynn’s Banner Creighton, whose arc ended on a beautiful note after substantial character development, while Julia Schlapfer’s Alex continued to suffer.

The 1923 season 2 finale has finally graced the screens, and the result was just what many had been fearing all along. While the mastermind behind the fan-beloved Western, Taylor Sheridan, really racked his brains to figure out the most tragic way to carry the second season forward after the successful season one, he didn’t hesitate to make the ending as miserable as well.

Of course, the showrunner’s works are famous for their traumatic, brutal, and tragic elements, and the recently aired finale was drenched in the same as it brought about Alexandra’s previously blurry fate into focus. But while Sheridan ostensibly always hinted at the bleak turn of events awaiting her in the near future, I refuse to believe it had to be literal for the story.

Someone has to say it, so let that be me: Taylor Sheridan must have a full-blown kink for putting his female characters through hell, and I’m not talking mild inconvenience, alright. After that 1923 finale? It’s confirmed.

First, Elsa, in 1883, gets shot and dies narrating her own tragedy. Monica in Yellowstone has practically set up camp in emotional misery. And Alexandra? Girl’s out here surviving storms, shipwrecks, and long-distance heartbreaks like it’s the AFC Championship of suffering.

At this point, I’m convinced Sheridan writes pain like it’s poetry. Character arcs? Nah, he’s just drafting therapy bills in script form.

The genre of mystery has always hung its narrative prerequisites firmly on carefully placed clues and subtleties that clue in or mislead the audience throughout the film so that the reveal of the mystery or guilty party is a shock or surprise. With many classics of the genre, often this can be telegraphed too obvious too early, but the film's cinematic storytelling still holds audiences on the edge of their seats as they await how it plays out.

Aldis Hodge read that James Patterson turned down a seven-figure deal for Alex Cross — and he is impressed.

The actor, who stars in Prime Video’s Cross update based on the prolific author’s novels, told Buzzfeed that he didn’t know Patterson had done that until the story was published in The Hollywood Reporter in November.
