David Mackenzie is a filmmaker I’ve long since admired. From Young Adam to Starred Up, to Hell or High Water and Outlaw King, he’s a craftsman who doesn’t repeat himself. Relay is yet another win for the director. The thriller tells the story of a whistleblower seeking protection from a corrupt corporation. The film’s stars, Lily James and Riz Ahmed, are perfectly cast and rarely on-screen together. It’s a terrific flick with a sharp script, excellent performances, and an impressive filmmaker bringing it all to life. You can check out our own Chris Bumbray’s review here.

Hulu has ordered a pilot of Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran’s “Foster Dade.”

Based on Nash Jenkins’ debut novel, “Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos,” the project centers on a sophisticated mystery set at an East Coast boarding school. “Foster Dade” will explore privilege, scandal, sexuality and masculinity amid the rise of social media, millennial anxiety and pharmaceuticals, per the official logline.

Berlanti and Doran serve as writers and executive producers for “Foster Dade,” which hails from Warner Bros. TV, where Berlanti Productions has an overall deal.

Additional EPs for “Foster Dade” include Jenkins, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Robbie Rogers and Donald De Line, who EPs for De Line Pictures.

Hulu has handed a pilot order to Foster Dade, a mystery YA drama from You co-creator Greg Berlanti, Bash Doran (Life After Life) and Warner Bros. Television where Berlanti Productions is under an overall deal.

Hulu bought Berlanti and Doran’s spec script for the project based on Nash Jenkins’ debut novel Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos in April, fast-tracking it for a pilot order.

Taking place in 2008 and present day, Foster Dade is described as a sophisticated mystery set at an East Coast boarding school that explores privilege, scandal, sexuality, and masculinity amid the rise of social media, millennial anxiety and pharmaceuticals.

Aaron Taylor-Johnsonhas consistently been named as one of the potential frontrunners to take over the mantle of James Bond, but while it remains to be seen if he's the next 007, you can still catch him in a film with similar feelings: Sky Cinema has released the first look at Fuze, an upcoming heist thriller film starring Taylor-Johnson and Theo James in a high-octane adventure set in the U.K.

The image, shared by Sky on its social media accounts, shows off Taylor-Johnson peering down the barrel of a sniper rifle, presumably locked onto a dangerous target. Plot details about the film remain largely slim, but it's known that Fuze will follow a bomb squad that must defuse an unexploded World War II ordinance when it's found in the middle of a London construction site. But the city's preoccupation with the bomb turns out to be the perfect distraction for a heist.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has his sights aimed at an explosive heist in the long-awaited first look at his upcoming action thriller. Bleecker Street has unveiled the first full trailer for “Relay,” director David Mackenzie’s thriller starring Riz Ahmed and Lily James, and set an August 22, 2025 U.S. theatrical date. The film bowed at TIFF last September and will have its U.S. festival launch at Tribeca on June 7 before expanding nationwide.

The two-minute preview positions Ahmed’s character Tom—an enigmatic “fixer” who brokers hush-money deals between corporations and would-be whistle-blowers—as he agrees to protect biotech scientist Sarah, played by James, whose leak threatens a powerful chemical firm. The tense clip, rolled out across studio channels and sites such as JoBlo and The Playlist, leans on sparse dialogue and quick-cut action to highlight Mackenzie’s return to the crime genre after Hell or High Water.

After finishing up production last year, the unlikely duo will be starring in Fuze, which also boasts a stacked supporting cast. It may not be the thriller fans of the actors have envisioned them in, but the creative forces behind Fuze should be plenty to justify a viewing.

Exclusive: Production designer Donald Graham Burt has signed with Gersh for representation.

Burt is a two-time Academy Award and BAFTA winner for his work on Mank and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a pair of acclaimed films from David Fincher. The former drama, starring Gary Oldman, which also brought Burt the award for Best Production Design at the Critics Choice Awards, focused on screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his turbulent journey in writing the screenplay for the iconic 1941 film Citizen Kane. The latter stars Brad Pitt as a man born with the physical appearance and ailments of an elderly person, who ages in reverse.

These projects mark just two of Burt’s collaboration with Fincher. Over the years, he’s also worked with the director on titles including Zodiac, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and The Killer, as well as Netflix’s House of Cards.

Mel Gibson thrived as a popular actor for 15 years before Braveheart, but it was that film (his second as a director) which brought him awards attention for the first time (at least outside Australia). Three decades later, some people look back on that Best Picture winner as a melodramatic, inaccurate slog, while it remains a classic epic to others. Back in early 2023, it was announced that Best Actor Oscar nominee Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) and Lily James, who was nominated for an Emmy for her performance as Pamela Anderson in Pam & Tommy, had signed on to star in the thriller Relay for director David Mackenzie, whose credits include Outlaw King, Under the Banner of Heaven, and Best Picture nominee Hell or High Water. By the end of April, they were joined in the cast by Sam Worthington of the Avatar franchise and production was underway. A year and a half later, Relay has finally secured a U.S. distribution deal, with Bleecker Street revealing that they’re planning to give the film a theatrical release sometime in 2025.

Worthington and Mackenzie previously worked together on Under the Banner of Heaven. Details on his Relay character have not been revealed.

Even though she's no stranger to Netflix, having starred in the streamer's original movies Outlaw King, Malevolent, and The Wonder, Academy Award-nominated actress Florence Pugh's biggest Netflix role is still to come. The talented star will lead the cast of Netflix's upcoming limited series East of Eden, based on the novel of the same name by John Steinbeck.

Pugh first became attached to star when word of the project was revealed by Deadline back in June 2022, but Netflix officially gave the limited series the green light in September 2024. The series drops on Netflix on Thursday

Charlie Covell’s comedic drama “Kaos” hits Netflix screens on Thursday, Aug. 29, and it’s giving Greek mythology buffs a new adventure to binge, reimagining the Greek gods in a contemporary setting.

The eight-episode series, directed by Georgi Banks-Davies and Runyararo Mapfumo, will all drop at the same time on the streamer.

Here’s Netflix’s official synopsis: “Zeus has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere.”

The 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival announced its full lineup of Galas and Special Presentations today in what is a complete embarrassment of riches as the event blasts off after last year’s actors strike with 29 titles having rights for sale.

Among those movies making their world premieres is the Angelina Jolie-directed war drama Without Blood, starring Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir, based on the Alessandro Baricco novel. There’s also Mike Leigh’s first movie in six years, Hard Truths, with Marianne Jean-Baptiste, which is billed as an “ongoing exploration of the contemporary world with a tragicomic study of human strengths and weaknesses.”

Gia Coppola has the drama The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson, Dave Bautista, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kiernan Shipka and Billie Lourd, which follows a seasoned stage dancer who must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a 30-year run.

We’ve been waiting months to find out whether or not Aaron Taylor-Johnson (The Fall Guy) has actually landed the role of James Bond – but in the meantime, he’s working on the race-against-the-clock thriller Fuze, which is currently filming in London and has Hell or High Water director David Mackenzie at the helm. We first heard of this project back in February, and since then Taylor-Johnson has been joined in the cast by Theo James (Divergent), Sam Worthington (Avatar), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki), Elham Ehsas (The Kite Runner), and Honor Swinton-Byrne (The Souvenir), and now Deadline reports that Saffron Hocking (Top Boy) has also been added to the cast.

Details on the characters being played by these cast members are being kept under wraps.

With production underway in Belfast, Ireland on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO has announced five new additions to the cast, along with a new director.

New cast members include Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country), Bertie Carvel (The Crown), Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things), Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) and Sam Spruell (Fargo). Bennett plays Aerion Targaryen, with Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Crawford as Tanselle, Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Spruell as Maekar Targaryen.

Theo James will star opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson in British heist thriller Fuze, a film that comes with an explosive twist.

Theo James is one of those actors who seems to keep earning plaudits whatever he features in and as such, he’s got a couple of promising film projects in the pipeline. Chief among them? A starring role in David Mackenzie’s upcoming British heist thriller, Fuze.

James most recently starred in The Gentlemen, the small screen spin-off (pictured) from Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film. Before that, the British actor picked up plenty of critical praise for an excellent take on ‘the character you love to hate’ in Mike White’s second season of The White Lotus, the anthology drama series that has been praised by critics and audiences alike.

Chris Pine made an anti-style statement at the Los Angeles premiere of Poolman to celebrate his directing debut at the Vista Theatre in Los Angeles.

Pine decided to go with a look that no one would ever expect on the red carpet. He rocked a tan jacket with a flower pin, denim shorts and brown boots. He showed his love for Los Angeles with a white shirt, reading, “I heart L.A.”

David Mackenzie has already made one spectacular heist movie with Hell Or High Water, so it’s pleasing to hear he’s about to embark on another one. Called Fuze, it’ll star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with whom Mackenzie previously collaborated on the 2018 historical piece, Outlaw King.

The film’s heist takes place as an area of London is evacuated following the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb; based on an idea by Mackenzie, it’s the work of British screenwriter and novelist Ben Hopkins, whose most recent credit was the 2023 psychological thriller Inside, which starred Willem Dafoe as an art thief.
