The 9 Best Superhero Shows on HBO Max

Team Peacemaker is back — and this time, they’re in the Dcu.

Thursday saw the launch of the second season of “Peacemaker,” a spin-off of James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” starring John Cena as the titular vigilante on a long, slow journey toward redemption. It’s one of the biggest seasons of television in DC history, with Gunn teasing strong ties to the new DC movie universe.

But “Peacemaker” is far from the first successful DC show. The comic book brand has had a long, storied history on television, with a number of hit series in both live-action and animation across various networks.

Check out these nine superhero series...

Helldivers 2 Teases Halo 3: Odst Crossover for Xbox Launch
Image
Arrowhead Game Studios' Helldivers 2 is gearing up for its release on Xbox consoles, and appears to be teasing a crossover with Halo 3: Odst. The PlayStation-published game is taking a big step across the console wars aisle after being available on PC for roughly a year and a half.

At the end of a new, explosive trailer featuring P.O.D.'s "Boom," Helldivers 2 makes a very pointed change in music. A final clip shows a Hellpod descending on a rainy city as the first two notes from the Halo 3: Odst soundtrack play, the haunting intro to the game's overture. This seems to suggest that Helldivers 2 will receive crossover cosmetics and potentially weapons from the 2009 spin-off. Precedent for such a crossover has already been set by the inclusion of Killzone items.

Helldivers 2 Seems To Be Getting A Halo 3: Odst Crossover Alongside Xbox Launch "You Know The Music, Time To Dance...

5 Reasons You Need to Read Absolute Martian Manhunter Right Now
Image
As the multiple ongoing series in the Absolute Universe start to settle into their own, Absolute Martian Manhunter is one that many may have mistakenly overlooked. Naturally, when DC‘s big three of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman also have their Absolute series, other stories might take a hit.

And that’s where the mistake lies, as this series is a unique experience in and of itself, both in terms of story and visuals. Thus, here are five reasons why the comics of this version of the Martian Manhunter should be at the top of your reading list.

1. Reimagination of the Classic Martian Manhunter Lore

Taking a cue from the usual story of J’onn J’onzz disguising himself as a detective to blend with people, in this version, he is a human named John Jones, an FBI investigator who just survived a bomb attack. But when The Martian finds him,...

With the Clues Piling Up, a New Halo in 2026 Feels More Likely Than Ever
Image
Halo has been teasing fans for years, but 2026 might finally deliver the goods. The latest announcement from Halo Studios essentially confirms what many suspected: something big is brewing for the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Tahir “Tashi” Hasandjekic, the studio’s Esports lead, announced on Friday that the Halo Championship Series (Hcs) will officially retire Halo Infinite from competition after October’s World Championship concludes. And this doesn’t seem to be just housekeeping; it might be preparation:

As the studio continues to shift more and more towards the next era of Halo, we feel this is the right time for Official Hcs Competition to move on from Halo Infinite.

The timing couldn’t be more telling. After years of supporting Infinite’s competitive scene, they’re suddenly ready to move on. That doesn’t happen unless you’ve got something substantial waiting in the wings.

And let’s not forget...

Mark Wahlberg’s Reincarnation Thriller Infinite Is Trending on Netflix — But Is It Any Good? ( Photo Credit – Netflix )

Infinite, starring Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor as protagonist and antagonist respectively, is a science fiction, supernatural reincarnation action thriller. It was a flop when it was released and still holds a rating of just 17 percent on the Tomatometer and 34 percent on the Popcorn Meter. On IMDb, it has a score of 5.5 out of 10, based on feedback from around 67,000 participants. Clearly, the film did not impress a lot of people.

But did you know that globally, this film has been on Netflix’s top 10 list for three weeks in a row? It recorded 10.4 million views in the week from June 30, 2025 to July 6, 2025. Infinite managed to enter the top 10 list in 69 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru, Switzerland, Italy, Romania, Netherlands, Malta, Spain, France, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bangladesh, Hong Kong,...

Netflix’s Top Movie Right Now Is a Sci-Fi Thriller With Just a 22% Critics Score on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Netflix’s new hit movie, The Old Guard 2, is topping the charts worldwide, even though critics aren’t impressed. The film, starring Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman, was the most-watched movie on Netflix in the U.S. from June 30 to July 6 and ranked number one in 74 countries.

This success comes despite the movie holding a low 22% critics score and a 36% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s not just The Old Guard 2. Other popular Netflix movies also show a big gap between viewer numbers and critic scores. For example, the 2021 sci-fi film Infinite, starring Mark Wahlberg, is the third most-watched global English-language movie. It has only a 17% critic rating and 34% on Popcornmeter, a review aggregator.

Netflix hasn’t released the official Top 10 movies list for July 7 to 14 yet. But FlixPatrol, an independent streaming ratings tracker, reports that the July 10 release Brick is currently the most popular Netflix movie worldwide.

Image
“Squid Game” has unsurprisingly remained a hit.

For the second week in a row, Season 3 of the Korean drama has broken a Netflix record. After breaking onto the streamer’s list of its most popular non-English-language series of all time in the No. 9 position after just three days with its 60.1 million-view opening, the season has now reached 106.3 million views total in 10 days. That’s more than any Netflix series — in any language — has ever achieved within two weeks’ time. And on the non-English all-time list, Season 3 has now jumped to No. 3, outranked only by Seasons 1 and 2.

When bringing English-language shows back into the mix, “Squid Game” Season 3 still stacks up impressively, coming behind only “Wednesday” Season 1 (252.1 million views), “Adolescence” (142.6 million), “Stranger Things” Season 4 (140.7 million), “Dahmer: Monster” (115.6 million), “Bridgerton” Season 1 (113.3 million) and “The Queen’s Gambit” (112.8 million) — and each of those titles had 91 days to reach those totals. Mark Walhberg's Matrix Copycat With 17% Rt Score Finds Success on Streaming 4 Years Later
Image
Mark Wahlberg is an extremely successful action star, whose films as a leading actor have grossed over $5.4 billion worldwide. However, not every project has been a hit.

Wahlberg's 2021 sci-fi film Infinite was not successful and became one of his lowest-rated films. The project was a collaboration with Antoine Fuqua and Chiwetel Ejiofor. However, as Infinite was unfavorably compared to The Matrix, it failed to impress. Fortunately, the movie is currently experiencing new success on Netflix, Tudum reveals.

Infinite has been a hit on streaming despite its poor reviews. The film debuted in eighth place in the Top 10 global charts on Netflix for the week between June 23 and June 19. It received 3.9 million views and 6.9 million hours viewed. The sci-fi flick also entered the Top 10 in 30 countries over the same period. This Mark Wahlberg Mind-Bender Was Offloaded by Its Studio, but Now It’s a Streaming Hit

While Adam Sandler was arguably ahead of the curve in pivoting to streaming when he discovered that his audience would probably stop making trips to theaters to watch his comedies, Mark Wahlberg's transition hasn't been as smooth. Wahlberg was consistently delivering hit films not that long ago, but his streaming era has been marked by one underwhelming release after another. Among his least-remembered recent titles is the mind-bending science-fiction film Infinite, which was a part of the Paramount slate that was offloaded by the studio in the early days of the pandemic. The movie is now witnessing a resurgence on Netflix, four years after its initial release.

This was when the studio sold off Coming 2 America and The Tomorrow War to Prime Video, and Alex Garland's Annihilation to Netflix. Infinite, directed by Antoine Fuqua, debuted on Paramount+ and earned terrible reviews. It currently holds a 17% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes,...

Halo Coming To PS5 “Very Soon,” According To Dataminer

Ever since Xbox started bringing its exclusives to other platforms, Halo's debut on PlayStation has felt almost inevitable. New datamined information now claims Master Chief will be appearing on PS5 imminently.

According to Halo dataminer grunt.api on Twitter (via VideoGamer), a new product ID indicating a PlayStation 5 port of a Halo title has appeared in Halo Studios' retail Api, indicating the game is coming "very soon." It's unclear which Halo game is being brought over to PS5; in a reply asking if it was the Master Chief Collection, grunt.api said they don't think it'll be the McC, since this appears to be a new ID. Another reply indicates they don't believe it's Halo Infinite either. The dataminer also notes that there is so far no indication that Halo is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 just yet, despite Xbox representatives discussing their intent to support the platform.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Offers 4v4 Tag Team Mayhem With Guilty Gear Flair
Image
Sony just casually dropped a nuclear bomb on the fighting game community, and the fallout is absolutely glorious. Nobody expected Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls to materialize out of thin air during State of Play, especially not with Arc System Works wielding the development reins.

The audacity of handing Marvel’s most iconic heroes to the studio behind Guilty Gear borders on genius-level insanity. After years of Capcom’s stranglehold on superhero fighters, this partnership feels like watching David pick up Goliath’s own slingshot.

Suddenly, Sony’s “Project Defiant” wireless fight stick doesn’t seem like random hardware experimentation anymore. It’s a proof of the sheer confidence they have placed in their new partners.

Halo Fans Are Ranking the Games Based on the Soundtrack, Here’s Why They’re All Wrong
Image
There’s no denying that the original Halo game completely elevated the bar for first-person shooters on consoles. Crafted by Bungie for Microsoft, Halo went down in the history books for its control schemes, impressive scale, and creative weaponry.

Over the decades, the Halo franchise has expanded to six mainline titles and countless spin-offs. Although the newer entries haven’t proven to be everyone’s cup of tea, the franchise still has many passionate fans.

Some of these fans have taken to Reddit and ranked Halo entries based on their soundtrack. While it’s an incredible effort, these rankings are simply way off as they don’t pay the respect to the title that kickstarted it all.

Halo: Combat Evolved deserves more respect from fans

Recently, user HitriBocchi24 took to r/Halo and posted an edit that kickstarted an intense debate among players. What was this all about? Choosing Halo games based on their soundtrack.

‘Smallville’ Co-Creator Says Warner Bros. “Regime Change” Has Taken Animated Sequel Series “Off The Table For A Bit”
Image
Nearly 15 years after the Superman origin story ended, Smallville fans will have to wait a little longer for a potential animated continuation.

With David Corenswet making his Man of Steel debut in the new Dcu‘s Superman, premiering July 11, Smallville co-creator Alfred Gough recently explained that James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s tenure as DC Studios co-ceos has taken his project “off the table for a bit.”

“That is the thing, I think the problem with most projects in development in any studio and/or any network is regime change,” he said on Smallville stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum‘s Talk Ville podcast.

“Warners has obviously gone through a lot, and I think the fact that they are in the process of rebooting Superman again, kind of unfortunately, I think, keeps our thing off the table for a bit,” added Gough, who developed the series with Miles Millar. “Everything...

DC Has a New Most Powerful Villain, Stealing Darkseid's Throne
Image
It's rare that any DC villain gives Darkseid a run for his money as a cosmic threat, but a former lackey of the evil god is doing exactly that in the pages of DC's Titans. While heavyweight villains like Eclipso and the Anti-Monitor have taken on Darkseid, the dark god's recent absence in the DC Universe has left a power vacuum - one that the Psycho Pirate is stepping into.

In a preview of Titans #21, the Titans roster tear each other apart, as Psycho Pirate's disturbing emotional-control powers turn friend against friend. However, the threat to the young heroes pales in comparison to Psycho Pirate's real plan -to steal the power of the mystic hero Raven.

The daughter of the satanic villain Trigon, Raven keeps her mystic potential tamped down in order to maintain her humanity. However, past stories have shown she has enough power to destroy the universe itself...

Over the years, we’ve been blessed with a number of iconic Halo games. Sure, some of them might not have hit the mark, but they played a critical role in elevating the franchise. However, what’s truly disappointing is that Halo didn’t follow up on one of its most underrated games: Halo 3: Odst.

“We started prepping in November last year, filming starts I think in about a week or so…couple of weeks. Up until now it’s been a lot of weight lifting and rehearsing, but we’re about to get into it and...

“The show is definitely from Beth’s Pov”: Let’s Face It, ‘Yellowstone’ Was Never About Kevin Costner but Taylor Sheridan’s Next Spinoff Still Makes No Sense
Image
“You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone,” they say, and that might be the perfect line for Yellowstone, where the heart of the show, despite all the rugged landscapes and cowboy grit, was never really about the cattle or the land. Then? It was about Beth Dutton….and viewers would agree!

Let’s be honest: Yellowstone was never really about Kevin Costner. Sure, his presence gave the show its star power, but the heart of Yellowstone has always been the Dutton family—especially the fierce and complicated women like Beth Dutton. From the very beginning, it was clear that Taylor Sheridan was more interested in the family dynamics, the raw struggles of land and legacy, and the way his characters wrestle with their demons. Costner’s John Dutton was just one piece in a much larger puzzle.

Naruto: Masashi Kishimoto Forgot 1 Konoha Clan Is Technically Immune to Infinite Tsukuyomi
Image
Decades back, Naruto made quite a splash in the shonen genre. Apart from its status among the Big 3, the series stands iconic in more ways than one. Especially when it comes to its unique elements and meticulous plot.

Be it jutsu or characters, Masashi Kishimoto did a great deal to make the series a masterpiece. In doing so, he may have forgotten one of the most overpowered clans of Konoha, who deserved their due screentime.

One of the key features of the series along with kekkei genkai are the clans. The clans weren’t mere plot devices but had depth and gravitas to them. One such clan was brutally sidelined after its short stint in the Shippuden series.

Interestingly, though, it was formidable in its immunity to Infinite Tsukuyomi. And while this seems a feat in itself, it wasn...

I'm Convinced DC and Star Trek Proved Fans Wrong About This Sci-Fi Concept Being 'Broken'

Quick Links 1985's Crisis On Infinite Earths Comics Event Was Meant to Erase the Multiverse Star Trek: Lower Decks Used Its Final Two Episodes to Examine the Multiverse How James Gunn Blended the DC Extended Universe With His New Continuity MCU, Dcu, and Star Trek Fans Can Pick and Choose Their Favorites

The following contains spoilers from Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5, currently streaming on Paramount+.

Both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe embrace the multiverse concept in their storytelling, for better or worse. Yet, the series finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks also embraced the many worlds theory while offering both praise and critique of this narrative device. While many fans of these stories aren't all that fond of the multiverse, I recently realized it provides a way for everyone to enjoy these stories more. Despite seeming like a fantastical concept, the multiverse is a real theory examined by scientists,...

I Admit It: The New Justice League Is the DC Team I Want James Gunn to Assemble on Film
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Question: All Along the Watchtower #1!When James Gunn's Dcu brings the Justice League onscreen, I sincerely hope it looks something like the latest team of heroes DC just assembled. It's a new day for the iconic team, which is bigger than ever. So big, in fact, it's led to one subteam that would be perfect for a feature film.

As seen in the DC All In Special, the DC Universe's heroes have learned their lessons and have re-formed, bigger and better than ever. Not only are they now a home to heroes of all stripes, they worked tirelessly to create the most advanced Watchtower ever conceived. Every hero plays a role here, including the Watchtower's new security head, the Question. Thankfully, she's got a crew working under her, and I think they'd be the perfect team to showcase in James' Gunn's new film universe.

Canceled Halo Odst Live Service Could’ve Explored the Darkest Chapter in Unsc History Before Sony Destroyed Xbox With Helldivers 2

Halo is Xbox and Microsoft’s magnum opus. Even though the last couple of years haven’t been kind to the franchise, it’s still one of the biggest ones out there. Despite its success, it has received only a handful of spin-offs, but there were talks of making a new one.

Recently, one of the former leads of the game revealed that there were multiple new Halo pitches, including an Odst game that was exactly like Sony’s smash-hit Helldivers 2. While the title might’ve not come to fruition, it had incredible potential as it could’ve finally touched upon The Insurrection.

DC Comics Heads Jim Lee, Anne DePies on An Absolute Comeback Year
Image
The death of comic books has been foretold for many years, but just like the superheros and villains it chronicles, the medium always returns, sometimes bolder than before.

Sales from comic books and graphic novels tumbled 7 percent in 2023 (falling from $2.01 billion in 2022 to $1.87 billion) — according to an estimate from ICv2, a website that tracks industry sales. This year, however, the industry bounced back in a big way. Though final numbers aren’t yet available, sales are believed to be up.

No one had a bigger year, arguably, than DC, which launched several publishing initiatives, new product lines, and new distribution channels.

“DC lost market share and had multiple downsizings in recent years,” notes Milton Griepp of ICv2. “They had a long way to come back from and they’re showing signs of life. They definitely had a great year.”

The company doubled down on its evergreen stories with a new graphic novel format,...

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Composer Gordy Haab On Scoring Indy’s Latest Adventure
Image
By most accounts, MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle captures much of the magic found in the whip-cracking adventure hero’s best-loved adventures. Storied video game voice actor Troy Baker channels early 1980s Harrison Ford as Dr. Henry Jones, Jr., as players engage in a story that takes the archaeologist to ancient sites around the globe. Set in 1937, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes place in the gap year between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as Jones once again tries to hunt down a priceless artifact before it falls into the hands of power-hungry Nazis.

ScreenRant’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle review praises the game’s film-like style, and it’s hard to imagine anything Indiana Jones feeling authentic without music steeped in the style of John Williams. Thankfully, composer Gordy Haab is an expert in the subject. Haab...

'Game of Thrones's Kit Harington Joins Mark Wahlberg's 'Family Plan' Sequel
Image
It looks like Jon Snow knows something after all — namely, what his next role will be. Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington has signed on to star alongside Mark Wahlberg in the sequel to his 2023 action comedy, The Family Plan.

In a new, exclusive report from Deadline, the Apple Original Films sequel is a follow-up to the most-watched film on Apple TV+ since its debut last year. According to Justin Kroll's reporting, the new installment will be a holiday film, and:

Penned by David Coggeshall, The Family Plan sequel takes place at Christmas in Europe where Dan has planned the perfect vacation for the Morgans, but his past continues to haunt them in unexpected ways.

Unfortunately, specific details surrounding Harington's character are being kept under wraps. One can only hope he's playing the main antagonist or villain, as Harington's comedy chops have been — up until this point — mostly under-utilized.
