In an interview for the live signing session of Oathbringer, Sanderson stated that he intends to make Mistborn a feature that focuses heavily on the core characters of Vin, Kelsier, Sazed, and Elend, with the thieving crew taking a backseat to the story to save time. He would like the make the sequel, Well of Ascension into a TV show that focuses much more on the crew.
In 2016, DMG Entertainment purchased the film and licensing rights to the author Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere which includes, among other books, Mistborn, The Stormlight Archive, and Elantris.
Sanderson has stated he regrets not adding more females in the thieving crew. In bringing the novel to the screen, he has said that the characters Ham and Dox have both been changed to women.
