Netflix subscribers will soon have their chance to catch up on the first season of Transformers: EarthSpark. The animated series previously debuted on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon, and its third season is set to premiere on Oct. 25.

A brand-new teaser trailer for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been revealed ahead of the cartoon's August 9th debut. And the new footage reveals that Metalhead—a beloved, mechanical "5th Turtle"—will be making his appearance.

Metalhead had earlier appearances in both the animated series from 2012 and the iconic '80s cartoon. The character made his comic book debut in the 2014 Idw Tmnt series, in issue 34, which takes place during the Monsters, Misfits, and Madmen narrative arc.

In the action figure community, in particular, Metalhead has been a fan favorite since its introduction back in the '80s.

A new promotional image for the forthcoming animated series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, produced by Nickelodeon and Paramount+, has been released by Total Film magazine (via Toonado).

The animated series will pick up where the 2023 animated feature film from director Jeff Rowe and writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg left off. Mutant Mayhem grossed $180.5 million worldwide on a $70 million production budget.

While the film may not have reached the box office heights that Paramount wished, the studio pressing on with more plans for this new radical take on the Turtles, in addition to the forthcoming Paramount+ animated series, an animated film sequel that will feature the Shredder is also in development. The sequel is slated to release on October 9, 2026.

Lara Croft is making a comeback in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, an animated series coming soon to Netflix, bringing new adventures for fans. The franchise is expanding beyond gaming, and while a new game may not be on the horizon, fans can look forward to experiencing Lara's adventures through the streaming giant. Hayley Atwell, known for her roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Mission: Impossible, is the perfect choice to voice Lara Croft, as she has an extensive career in action films.

Lara Croft is finally returning to the screen. The action heroine is ready to live a new adventure in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, a new animated series coming to Netflix soon.

Since the first video game released in 1996, Lara Croft has become a more than popular character not only in the world of gaming, but also in pop culture, and particularly in film and television.

Disney racked up 93 nominations for the second annual Children’s and Family Emmys over their different networks, including Disney+ and Disney Junior.

Netflix followed with 61 nominations and Nickelodeon with 30, with AppleTV+ proving itself to be a rising player with 27 total nods.

“We are very proud of the growth experienced in year two of the Children’s and Family Emmys, especially in the development and cultivation of the new categories dedicated to puppetry,” said Rachel Schwartz, director of Daytime and Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, in a statement.

Among the notable actors who received nominations for acting categories included “The Santa Clauses” stars Tim Allen and Kal Penn, “National Treasure: Edge of History” player Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gina Rodriguez for Netflix’s “Lost Ollie,” and various voice performances were recognized for Hollywood vets such as Laurence Fishburne, Jack Black, Tom Kenny and Rob Paulsen.

Details for the ceremony are slated to drop sometime next week.

Updated with one more category: The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences today revealed the nominations for its second annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. See the list here, with one category that was omitted listed below.

Nominees in one category judged in-person — Interactive Media — will be announced later this month, as will honorees in two juried categories: Individual Achievement in Animation and the newly-created Public Service Initiative.

Wren Pepper is in a pickle in screenwriter/director Jennifer Cram’s debut feature Sick Girl. Wren’s friends are quick to rally around her as she moves through her cancer journey. Unfortunately, Wren doesn’t really have cancer. She told a little white lie that suddenly morphed into a very big problem that just won’t go away.

What propelled Wren to tell that lie may be something most people can relate too, but nobody would actually admit to having cancer if it wasn’t true. That offbeat premise works in Sick Girl mostly because Cram doesn’t want the audience to sympathize with Wren, played by Nina Dobrev. The fun is in watching Wren writhe in guilt and shame. The result produces a middle-ground comedy that’s good for some escapist fun yet never fully reaches the high points you want it to.

Beginning as a parody of Marvel's Daredevil comic book series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became a huge success, sprouting a line of toy figures based on the comics. The toys were promoted by the franchise's first animated TV series, which ended up becoming a hit and running for ten years.

After the massive success of the first animated show, a live-action series was created, though it failed to garner the same kind of following as the original. “You’re a pathetic freak,” groans the gruesome being chained to a post in the basement of an apartment building. The creepy thing — disfigured and looking like Gollum’s drinking buddy — is addressing Hannah, who has chained stashed the beast away. That doesn’t stop the creature from telling Hannah how awful she is, sentiments it possesses because it came from Hannah and has been feeding off her insecurities, growing stronger and more devious by the day.

These scenes and others even more creepy play out with freaky fun aplomb in Appendage, writer/director Anna Zlokovic’s feature film debut. Say what you will about this offbeat, darkly humorous horror thriller, but it’s certainly a wakeup call to pay attention to that gnawing critical voice inside of you, which can really get the better of you. In Appendage it does, and Hannah (Hadley Robinson of Little Women) is never the same.

If audiences are tired of reboots and sequels, that hasn’t stopped them from flocking to see the latest “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie. Even as anticipated tentpoles like “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have failed to break even at the box office, Paramount’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” managed to recoup half its $70 million budget five days after its release.

The animated movie’s success isn’t totally surprising given its comparatively small budget and stacked cast. But given that the last film featuring this IP, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” reportedly lost Paramount around $75 million back in 2016, one can’t help but feel the studio took a risk by betting on “Ninja Turtles” again in 2023.

So is “Mutant Mayhem” succeeding because it’s part of an IP that’s nearly 40 years old, or in spite of it?...

The term “whitewash” has risen in prominence with more and more comic book adaptations, reboots, and reimaginings, most frequently used to describe the reinvention of characters of color as Caucasian. Comic book readers often cite April O’Neil from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as an example of the practice, while others deny the claim. With compelling evidence on both sides, the question remains: was April O'Neil's original ethnicity whitewashed?

April O’ Neil first appeared in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Vol.1) #2 in 1984 as the assistant to the evil scientist, Baxter Stockman. Later, she would become a close ally of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Casey Jones’ love-interest. While the comic books’ black and white interior makes April’s ethnicity hard to discern, the cover of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11 depicts (or was presumed by some at the time to depict) O’Neil as a light-skinned woman of color, with curly black hair.

The Nickelodeon animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem almost included an updated tribute to the opening theme song of the 1987 cartoon.

On Instagram, story artist Ray Xu uploaded an animatic of an unused scene for Mutant Mayhem. The scene in question is a new rendition of the opening sequence from the 1987 Tmnt cartoon. "Early on I was given this fun sequence, a mini homage to the classic opening sequence," Xu said. "Brought me back to my childhood. Note: it had no sequence number, when Jeff [Rowe] launched it, he called it the 'Dazzling Title Sequence.' I was thinking at the time, 'Oh man, better bring the dazzle, Ray! Don’t fail!'"

Rose Byrne jumped at the chance to voice Leatherhead in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” when producer-star Seth Rogen asked her to join the film. “It was ridiculous,” the “Physical” actor tells me. “Seth was like, ‘I want you to do just fully Aussie — just go for it!’

“I was like, ‘I’m going to do my best Eric Bana.’ This is an homage to Eric,” Byrne continues. “It was a group recording, and I’d never done that before for a voice job. Seth was there, and he had such high energy from beginning to end. There’s ‘Mayhem’ in the title, and it was like mayhem. Not in a bad way. It was fun mayhem.”

Byrne joked that her many collaborations with Rogen, which include the 2014 comedy “Neighbors” and Apple TV+’s “Platonic,” don’t have her husband, Bobby Cannavale, worried. “He’s our biggest cheerleader,” she says.

From its inception, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was a malleable franchise, one that has never stopped being reinvented. After being introduced in a dark and gritty comic book, an homage and parody of superhero comics of the time, the Turtles became toys and their design and story changed. The same would happen once the Turtles made the jump to animation in the '80s, with a cartoon that introduced new characters, new personalities, backstories, and more. Since then, each new iteration of the "Tmnt" has changed things, like when Shredder became an alien, or the first time Splinter went from being a pet rat to a human turned into a rat.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" is a bold new take on the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, one that builds on previous iterations while adding a fresh new look and focusing on things that previous iterations haven't always paid close attention to. For one, this is a movie that truly highlights the teenage aspect of the turtles, giving them each a unique personality that even reflects in their character design. 

Granted, unique looks were a big part of "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," but "Mutant Mayhem" builds on it by also having actual teenagers voice the characters. In a relatively rare move for an animated film, "Mutant Mayhem" also had its young cast record together, which added a sense of camaraderie and youthfulness to the characters that wasn't there before.
