There’s endless spinoff potential for the hit Netflix property, and in fact an animated series titled “Stranger Things: Tales from ’85” has already been announced.
“Stranger Things” creators Matt & Ross Duffer were on hand at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival earlier today, and they teased the upcoming animated series.

Netflix’s juggernaut “Stranger Things” is ending its run this year, with a final season spread across Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. But the franchise is far from done. Australian animation studio Flying Bark Productions shared on social media that it's looking for talented artists to "take on the paranormal." According to the company's vacancy page, over 20 roles need to be filled, some of which allow remote workers. Everyone loves a good workplace comedy. These sitcoms appeal to everyone’s need to find joy in the smallest things, including their sometimes-tedious jobs. They’ve dominated the airwaves for decades, and they’ve done the same on modern streaming services. So, it shouldn’t be surprising to learn that people are excited about Apple TV’s upcoming office sitcom, The Studio.
News about the series broke in 2022. More specifically, its production was announced on November 14 of that year. At that time, the only known fact was that it would star Seth Rogen. However, as its March 2025 release date approaches, more details are being tactically dropped.
The Studio Has the Chance to Be Apple TV's Next Big Hit Image via Apple TV+ In 2022, the same year The Studio was announced, Apple TV ordered content for Legendary Entertainment’s renewed MonsterVerse. 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon was Apple TV’s first theatrical release.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem released in 2023 and featured a teenage version of the turtle heroes and an underground world of mutants. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a rich history, from their comic book origins to their numerous TV series and movies spanning over 35 years. The franchise includes classic adaptations like the 1990 live-action film and the popular 2003 animated series, as well as newer takes such as the 2014 and 2016 live-action movies and the 2018 animated series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
While the franchise is somewhat lacking when it comes to having a cohesive continuity, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in order show how the world's favorite heroes in a half-shell have continually adapted themselves to stay relevant throughout the decades. From the pages of comic books to the big screen, Earth's favorite crime-fighting anthropomorphic turtles love only one thing more than ridding the world of scum: pizza.

Reviving the classic X-Men animated series takes guts. In a list of beloved shows from a bygone era of Saturday Morning television, Marvel’s X-Men stands among select others at the top of Mount Nostalgia, with adamantium claws popped and a dream of equality for mutantkind in its heart. When Marvel announced a return to the fan-favorite animation, it was difficult to imagine the Herculean task of doing justice to the old series while carving a new path. Thankfully, Marvel’s X-Men ’97 launched to rave reviews from critics and fans, and we’ve got the show’s Supervising Producer and Supervising Director, Jake Castorena, to tell us about establishing a new era in mutant-related entertainment.
Speaking with Jake, we discussed the team lineup for X-Men ’97 and who could join the cast. We also talk about how X-Men ’97 is so true to the spirit of the original that...

Each Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's weapon reflects their personality and shortcomings according to a wild theory on their secret meanings. Splinter assigned the ninja turtle weapons to teach the brothers patience, focus, innovation, and leadership as they face a dangerous world. The turtles' weapons have mystical powers in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, showcasing the legacy of Splinter's teachings beyond his death.

No matter what happens in this world, you can always bank on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot every few years. Since 2012, there have been two animated series — 2012’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 2018’s Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — and two films, Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016). Each of these versions of everyone’s favorite lean, green ninjas has its highs and lows, but they’re all special, especially for those who had them as their first introduction to the turtles.

This article contains major spoilers for "Lisa Frankenstein."
Hollywood has its eyes on "Lisa Frankenstein." The '80s horror comedy marks the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams, the return of Diablo Cody to the teen horror comedy subgenre for the first time in 15 years, and has the potential to be the first big box office hit of 2024. If you had told me four years ago that one day an '80s-set zombie rom-com featuring "Freaky" star Kathryn Newton and Cole "Jughead Jones" Sprouse would be one of the most anticipated releases of the year, I'd wonder how you got a time machine and where you put my diaries.
Given its tone and delightfully odd story, "Lisa Frankenstein" is sure to be a polarizing film. It's an '80s film to its core, not just in its setting, but also in its approach to comedy. Many have compared the film...

Rhys Darby is an unassuming charmer who first got real attention alongside his fellow New Zealanders Taika Waititi, James Bobin, Jemaine Clement, and Bret McKenzie when they all worked on Flight of the Conchords, the little cult show that could. Since then, Darby has starred in several of Waititi's films and has lent his voice to a wide array of animated titles, such as Voltron: Legendary Defender, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Curses! It really wasn't until 2022, though, that Darby became a bona fide sex symbol.
That's mainly because of Our Flag Means Death, David Jenkins' brilliant pirate comedy starring Darby and Waititi, among many others. Fans universally 'shipped Darby's character Stede and Waititi's character Blackbeard, and became emotionally invested in their relationship. Now even a fan account of Darby has a quarter of a million followers on Instagram, and there's a lengthy Tumblr fan group devoted to him,...

Wren Pepper is in a pickle in screenwriter/director Jennifer Cram’s debut feature Sick Girl. Wren’s friends are quick to rally around her as she moves through her cancer journey. Unfortunately, Wren doesn’t really have cancer. She told a little white lie that suddenly morphed into a very big problem that just won’t go away.
What propelled Wren to tell that lie may be something most people can relate too, but nobody would actually admit to having cancer if it wasn’t true. That offbeat premise works in Sick Girl mostly because Cram doesn’t want the audience to sympathize with Wren, played by Nina Dobrev. The fun is in watching Wren writhe in guilt and shame. The result produces a middle-ground comedy that’s good for some escapist fun yet never fully reaches the high points you want it to.

“We’re barely ever together as a group,” Wren Cooper moans to her lifelong pals in Sick Girl, the hilarious feature film debut from Jennifer Cram. “That’s the way it goes,” one of Wren’s friends shoots back. Maybe not for long. In the madness of a frenetic gathering, Wren makes a startling announcement: “I have cancer!”
She doesn’t. And Wren herself may not really know why she just blurted it out, but between the thought that she may have peaked in high school and the fact that her now adult friends are seemingly slipping away, she’s desperate to keep the BFFs’ connection alive. Hilarity ensues of course.
The R-rated film stars Nina Dobrev as Wren, Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Brandon Mychal Smith (Four Weddings and a Funeral), and Sherry Cola (Good Trouble). Filmmaker Jennifer Cram shared more about Sick Girl with MovieWeb in this exclusive interview.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise includes five TV series, and they can easily be ranked by their overall level of quality. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies tend to command most attention, but Tmnt has become a massive multimedia franchise, but it wasn't always so prevalent. Beginning as a parody of Marvel's Daredevil comic book series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became a huge success, sprouting a line of toy figures based on the comics. The toys were promoted by the franchise's first animated TV series, which ended up becoming a hit and running for ten years.
After the massive success of the first animated show, a live-action series was created, though it failed to garner the same kind of following as the original. Since then, the Turtles franchise has returned to animation, producing three more animated series, all of which have been successful. The shows have been broadcast on a variety of networks,...

“You’re a pathetic freak,” groans the gruesome being chained to a post in the basement of an apartment building. The creepy thing — disfigured and looking like Gollum’s drinking buddy — is addressing Hannah, who has chained stashed the beast away. That doesn’t stop the creature from telling Hannah how awful she is, sentiments it possesses because it came from Hannah and has been feeding off her insecurities, growing stronger and more devious by the day.
These scenes and others even more creepy play out with freaky fun aplomb in Appendage, writer/director Anna Zlokovic’s feature film debut. Say what you will about this offbeat, darkly humorous horror thriller, but it’s certainly a wakeup call to pay attention to that gnawing critical voice inside of you, which can really get the better of you. In Appendage it does, and Hannah (Hadley Robinson of Little Women) is never the same.

If audiences are tired of reboots and sequels, that hasn’t stopped them from flocking to see the latest “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie. Even as anticipated tentpoles like “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have failed to break even at the box office, Paramount’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” managed to recoup half its $70 million budget five days after its release.
The animated movie’s success isn’t totally surprising given its comparatively small budget and stacked cast. But given that the last film featuring this IP, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” reportedly lost Paramount around $75 million back in 2016, one can’t help but feel the studio took a risk by betting on “Ninja Turtles” again in 2023.
So is “Mutant Mayhem” succeeding because it’s part of an IP that’s nearly 40 years old, or in spite of it?...

The term “whitewash” has risen in prominence with more and more comic book adaptations, reboots, and reimaginings, most frequently used to describe the reinvention of characters of color as Caucasian. Comic book readers often cite April O’Neil from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as an example of the practice, while others deny the claim. With compelling evidence on both sides, the question remains: was April O'Neil's original ethnicity whitewashed?
April O’ Neil first appeared in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Vol.1) #2 in 1984 as the assistant to the evil scientist, Baxter Stockman. Later, she would become a close ally of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Casey Jones’ love-interest. While the comic books’ black and white interior makes April’s ethnicity hard to discern, the cover of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11 depicts (or was presumed by some at the time to depict) O’Neil as a light-skinned woman of color, with curly black hair.

On Instagram, story artist Ray Xu uploaded an animatic of an unused scene for Mutant Mayhem. The scene in question is a new rendition of the opening sequence from the 1987 Tmnt cartoon. "Early on I was given this fun sequence, a mini homage to the classic opening sequence," Xu said. "Brought me back to my childhood. Note: it had no sequence number, when Jeff [Rowe] launched it, he called it the 'Dazzling Title Sequence.' I was thinking at the time, 'Oh man, better bring the dazzle, Ray! Don’t fail!'"

Rose Byrne jumped at the chance to voice Leatherhead in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” when producer-star Seth Rogen asked her to join the film. “It was ridiculous,” the “Physical” actor tells me. “Seth was like, ‘I want you to do just fully Aussie — just go for it!’
“I was like, ‘I’m going to do my best Eric Bana.’ This is an homage to Eric,” Byrne continues. “It was a group recording, and I’d never done that before for a voice job. Seth was there, and he had such high energy from beginning to end. There’s ‘Mayhem’ in the title, and it was like mayhem. Not in a bad way. It was fun mayhem.”
Byrne joked that her many collaborations with Rogen, which include the 2014 comedy “Neighbors” and Apple TV+’s “Platonic,” don’t have her husband, Bobby Cannavale, worried. “He’s our biggest cheerleader,” she says.

This post contains spoilers for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
From its inception, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was a malleable franchise, one that has never stopped being reinvented. After being introduced in a dark and gritty comic book, an homage and parody of superhero comics of the time, the Turtles became toys and their design and story changed. The same would happen once the Turtles made the jump to animation in the '80s, with a cartoon that introduced new characters, new personalities, backstories, and more. Since then, each new iteration of the "Tmnt" has changed things, like when Shredder became an alien, or the first time Splinter went from being a pet rat to a human turned into a rat.
As much as things change, some things stay the same, like the relationship between the Turtles and Splinter or the look of the Turtles. They've always sort of looked the same,...

The following contains major spoilers for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" is a bold new take on the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, one that builds on previous iterations while adding a fresh new look and focusing on things that previous iterations haven't always paid close attention to. For one, this is a movie that truly highlights the teenage aspect of the turtles, giving them each a unique personality that even reflects in their character design.
Granted, unique looks were a big part of "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," but "Mutant Mayhem" builds on it by also having actual teenagers voice the characters. In a relatively rare move for an animated film, "Mutant Mayhem" also had its young cast record together, which added a sense of camaraderie and youthfulness to the characters that wasn't there before. And, much like Seth Rogen...

By now, five years after the release of "Into the Spider-Verse," it is fair to say that we have a new normal in American studio animation. That movie opened the doors for animated films to look like concept art, to go wild in styles and textures, and not just copy the same hyperrealistic 3D CG style. We saw that in "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," we saw that with "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" and now it is time for new turtles to rise with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
The first new "Tmnt" since the end of "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," in many ways, "Mutant Mayhem" feels like an extension of the ideas introduced in that show, from the focus on the early days of the turtles to having bold new designs that differentiate each turtle physically. But "Mutant Mayhem" really benefits from a...
