Synopsis

  • "THE PRIDE" is a complex web of inter-connected stories about the lives of a diverse group of characters from various races, classes and cultures that come together and discover that despite all of their differences they are all the same in their common struggle to find a place and a purpose in life. Nosh, a hard working Indigenous Canadian who is proud of his roots, and refuses to accept any handouts, struggles to raise his only son, Quinn, in one of the toughest inner-city neighborhoods in Toronto. Despite his honest efforts to better himself and his son's situation, he finds that life's burdens grow ever more daunting. As depression sets in, he fears that there will be no one left to take care of Quinn if he is gone. Lana, a single mother with two delinquent sons; Pryce, a drug dealer, and Dilan, a bully and a wannabe gangster, finds solace in her hard life as she dreams of pulling her younger son Dilan away from his brother's negative influence towards a better life and possibly a brighter future. Tau and Leon have always been best friends since childhood. They both grew up in the same inner-city neighborhood but Tau has grown up a lot faster as he's had to help raise his two little sisters Charlize and Andille, all of his life. Despite being the same age, he's always felt like an older brother to Leon, who acts tough but is really still just a kid. Finally we have Hamza, who's an adopted child growing up in an affluent neighborhood, raised by two caring step-parents. His life may seem ideal from the outside, but having been bumped around from family to family since birth, Hamza is really a lonely soul looking for a place where he can call home. All these characters come together as our rich naive young protagonist, Ariel, a second generation mixed Asian Karate practitioner, who dreams of Olympic Gold and saving the world from various injustices, takes over her maverick brother Ken's old rundown Karate Dojo and his free outreach program in hopes of scoring a position on the 2021 Olympic Karate Team. Little does she realize that what starts out as personal ambition, will eventually change her life forever as she learns first-hand the hardships of those living on the other side of her gilded cage. In the end everyone will be forced to question their own PRIDE in life.
