Not the Sixties I knew

This is a morose film with weird colours like some kind of dated faded 16mm cine camera. It did not capture the feeling of the times which despite the war was very vibrant and alive. I never saw any women dressed like they are in this film. They look like something out of a fifties catalog.

What I remember of the sixties and especially 67 was the very short skirts the girls wore and the pop music, which was everywhere. Something you never forget. And the fact that everyone was much happier and natural back then than they are today.

People were much poorer back then and had less but they were happier. Of course the war messed a lot of people up and I met my fair share of broken people.

I was out in Singapore in 67, which in those days was a blend of the UK and traditional China. But life was fun even if it was a lot simpler back then and quite beautiful, even though people including myself were sometimes hungry.

Nothing in this film resembled 67 in any way at all.

Unique POV

This film creatively explores the women's point of view during the Vietnam War. The audience will experience the sacrifices made by these soldiers as well as relate to the mothers, wives and girlfriends left behind.

What?

I'm sorry.. I can't understand the high ratings for this movie. Obviously very low budget and the acting is a little stiff at times.. I appreciate a good indie film but the acting just wasn't believable for me

This movie is not even decent

I love a good low budget, indie flick from time to time but this film falls flat on its face. The acting seems forced and it doesn't represnt the period accuratley at all in my opinion. This movie is like what a millennial in 2018 thinks the 60s were like. The US southern accents are atrocious. The music is too loud behind some of the dialogue to the point that it's sometimes difficult to ascertain what the actors are saying. I had to just turn it off after about 30 minutes because it was just too cringe when taken all together. The positive reviews here have got to be the cast, crew and perhaps family members of them because there is no way any unbiased viewer got any sort of enjoyment out of this.

moving

This movie moved me to stop watching it. I gave it a shot, 30 minutes into it, I decided to shut it off. I don't know who the people giving it good rating are, but probably the actors in the movie I have watched movies that I kept watching even if I didn't like it because i wanted to complete it. This one. not at all,

An authentic indie drama period piece

An authentic indie drama period piece taking place in the Vietnam era about two sisters and what it was like to be alive and go through that very tumultuous time in history. The film captured the emotion, the confusion, and how they coped and got through it all... It's important that period pieces capture the feel of the time, and I was impressed that this film did such a good job with that via the music and sets. The pacing lagged occasionally, but overall, this was worth watching.

Great Film about the Vietnam Era

This film is a really good depiction of a tumultuous and polarizing time on our country's history. The film really captures the feeling of division racially and politically that tore the country apart. Very strong narrative kept the story compelling through to the end. Great acting, cinematography costume design!

Evocative and moving

This film has such a wonderful sense of period detail. It really makes you feel that you are there, sharing the anguish of the women left behind when their men go off to Vietnam. Absorbing and poignant. Recommended.

A Must See!

Summer of '67 captures such a unique time in American history, and portrays the complicated emotions surrounding military life with accuracy. Military Wives know that feeling deployments bring. We face it, and struggle with it all while fighting to remain strong for our husband, and our children. The world has much to say about war, and politics, but military wives, we know how to love and hope like no one else. Kuddos to filmmaker Sharon Wilharm and FaithFlix. What an incredible film! ~Hannah R. Conway, military wife & best-selling author of "The Wounded Warrior's Wife"

Beautiful and stylistic

I was truly impressed by the great job the team has made to pull this up. The design, music, story and acting is very compelling. This movie revives a forgotten era and will leave it forever stamped in your mind. A must see!

Vietnam At Home

Sharon Wilharm is the scribe and director of "Summer of '67," an American tale rooted in the social upheaval of the 1960's.

Milly and Kate are sisters forever affected by the witnessing of their mother's own suicide. As we live through their maturation, we soon find them romantically involved with men who will soon become soldiers serving in the Vietnam War. Verily, both women must live their lives with the constant fear that their young loves may never return home, and their behaviors and actions arising from those fears are the primary drivers of the film.

"Summer of '67" seems positioned as a Christian film, yet we don't feel shouted at from the pulpit. Instead, the film relays an earnest story about living Real Life in one of America's most profound and unique periods. The acting is sound, and establishes the sincerity of these characters. And the look and feel of the film are on-point - the wardrobe, the period vehicles, and the music selection are all major contributors in establishing "Summer of '67" as a film that visually and emotionally reflects a critical and transformative period in our history and character.

Nostalgic and fascinating

Nostalgic and fascinating: Growing up as I did influenced by the Hippy and Peace culture sweeping the states and seeping into UK life via the media and the horrific issue of war also pervading with Vietnam seemingly killing the positive energy of the former this film hit a note. It deals with these issues and does so well. The characters are real and it hits the note well. Certainly worth watching as it brings on the nostalgia of a simpler and yet complex time.

Captures a moment in history

Period pieces are expensive, so the fact that "Summer of '67" manages to feel authentic to the era on an indie budget is truly impressive. Much of this comes down to the gorgeous, sweeping wide shots and a soundtrack that is both true to the times and simply enjoyable. Together with the subject matter, a modern take on the domestic ramifications of the Vietnam War in America, Sharon Wilharm crafts a character study that captures a moment in history through intimacy rather than scope.

based on a true story.

This is quite an emotional film and the women carry it well. Basedon an actual incident which happened whilst troops were invovled in vietnam. worth a watch.

A history time piece that's a must see

There's several reason I gave this movie a 5 star. It's history that was written so well and played out by some very good actors. The cinematography was amazing and to do a time piece with an indie budget and have it turn out the way it did blew my mind. This is a must see.

I was touched by the performances

This film seemed a little more true and real then most Hollywood films taking place in the same time period. Maybe because its and indie and nothing was masked by big budgets and big names. I was touched by the performances that drew me into the story. The pace of the film gives the viewer time to digest the importance of the time and story being told. Two thumbs up.

We loved Summer of '67!! It's beautiful!!!

This is a wonderful film!! There is no doubt the summer of '67 was a tumultuous time in our country's history. Other films have been made that cover the soldiers at war, or the hippie culture, but this movie touches at the heart: the people dealing with war at home.

From the comfort of 50 years later, it's difficult to grasp the sacrifice of this generation. Yet, so many parallels can be made in our current time. The issues - love, conflict, faith, and family - are totally relevant today.

The movie pulled me in and let me not just see, but to FEEL the era. The costumes, characters, vehicles, and settings are well done. And, the fact that it's based on true events makes it more important to see. I found myself laughing, crying, and loving along with the story.

I read several reviews and this movie has won many well-deserved awards and has received impressive reviews from critics as far as Ireland and Africa ( who would guess an American film about the Vietnam war would appeal to an international audience...?!?)

If you want a film to watch to give you insight into true events and a turbulent time you don't want to miss this movie!!!

Excellent job!!!!
