Nice Try, Sony! FF7 Remake and FF16 on Xbox Still Won’t Make Us Forget the Wukong Mess
Image
Sony dropping Final Fantasy VII Remake (FF7) and Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) on Xbox feels like an olive branch tossed across the console divide. After years of PlayStation exclusivity, seeing these flagship RPGs arrive on Xbox is definitely a head-turner.

But don’t be fooled by the gesture, the Black Myth: Wukong saga still looms large, reminding us that beneath the surface, some shady exclusivity games are being played. This sudden generosity might look shiny, but it doesn’t erase the sting of what went down behind the scenes.

Final Fantasy’s long-awaited leap from Sony to Xbox: A game changer?

For decades, mainline Final Fantasy games were practically synonymous with PlayStation exclusivity. These flagship RPGs remained locked to Sony’s consoles, leaving Xbox players on the sidelines. Sure, many eventually landed on PC, but other platforms had to lick their wounds and wait patiently.

That longstanding exclusivity was more than a business decision,...

The New Ryu Ga Gotoku Game Might Be Hiding Its Biggest Surprise in Plain Sight
Image
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has given us a number of legendary franchises, such as Yakuza and Like a Dragon. However, the studio finally lifted the wraps on its next game at the Summer Games Fest 2025 called Stranger Than Heaven with a cinematic trailer.

Stranger Than Heaven has been in development for a while. Previously, the title was introduced as Project Century at The Game Awards 2024. Fans can’t wait to see what Ryu Ga Gotoku brings to the table, as they believe that the game will bring a storyline that tackles various time periods.

Ryu Ga Gotoku might be planning a big twist in Stranger Than Heaven

If you revisit the first trailer we received for Project Century back during The Game Awards 2024, you’ll notice a few things. The game is set in Japan around the year 1915. The trailer kicks off with a classic black-and-white presentation that slowly shifts toward vivid colors,...

“Nintendo, if you’re watching this, please do not take it down”: Zelda: Ocarina of Time UE5 Remake Is Deceptively Gorgeous, if Only the Switch 2 Wasn’t Too Weak to Support It
Image
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the most beautiful games released by Nintendo, released back in 1998. The game has aged extremely well, and it still somehow manages to invoke a special feeling amongst fans of the Zelda universe.

This is what the game looked like when it was released. Image Credit: Nintendo

There is something even better for the fans: a UE5 remake of the game that is deceptively gorgeous, made possible by the labor of RwanLinkYT. The person behind this effort had spent six long months creating a reimagined world of this 1998 game. The results are so good that even Nintendo’s next-gen Switch 2 will have difficulty running it.

Nintendo should applaud this UE5 remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Huge Dying Light: The Beast Trailer Detail Keeps Getting Missed by Fans “I haven’t seen anyone pick that up yet”
Wu Kong (2017)
Many expected an entirely different third game in the Dying Light franchise, but at The Game Awards 2024, the spin-off Dying Light: The Beast was revealed, and it’s proven to be a big hit for the developer before it’s even released. With fans at a fever pitch to get their hands back on the returning protagonist Kyle Crane, we once again spoke to Franchise Director Tymon Smetkala about the third installment, the history of the franchise, its 10th Anniversary plans, and a whole host of other subjects.

We’re Been Missing Something Looking Us in the Face

To many, The Game Awards trailer showed us exactly what a huge portion of the fans wanted; Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the first game, returning. Many wanted to see his story continue and were surprised when Techland went in a different direction with Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Eagle-eyed fans have...

Tides of Annihilation Fuses Stylish Mayhem from Devil May Cry with a Wasteland of Arthurian Legends
Image
While Sony’s latest State of Play might have left many viewers wondering if PlayStation has forgotten what made them great in the first place, one title managed to snap everyone wide awake. Tides of Annihilation, the debut project from Tencent-backed Eclipse Glow Games, looks like someone threw King Arthur into a blender with Devil May Cry and cranked it up to eleven.

When medieval meets modern, but make it stylish. | Image Credit: PlayStation/YouTube

Set in a twisted version of modern London where the Knights of the Round Table have gone spectral and Big Ben probably needs an exorcism, this action-adventure seems determined to prove that sometimes the best way to respect the classics is to turn them completely upside down. And from what we’ve seen in the reveal trailer, they might just be onto something.

The timing couldn’t be better, really. Just as Western studios seem...

“There’s no little hacks”: Former World of Warcraft Developer Suggests Making “a good game” Is the Key to Ranking on Steam
Image
In an industry obsessed with marketing tricks and algorithmic optimization, one veteran developer is taking a refreshingly straightforward approach. Chris Kaleiki, who spent 13 years designing classes for World of Warcraft, has a simple philosophy for his upcoming game: make it good, and players will come.

No algorithm hacks are needed, just pure hack-and-slash fun. | Image Credit: Notorious Studios

As his studio’s new PvPvE extraction RPG, Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, prepares for its Steam Early Access debut on February 12, Kaleiki isn’t losing sleep over visibility algorithms or marketing strategies. Instead, he seems to be focused on what really matters—designing an experience that players will genuinely enjoy.

This approach might seem naive in today’s overcrowded market, but recent successes suggest he might be onto something. From the most recent record-breaking launch of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 to the pure, unadulterated fun of Helldivers 2, games that prioritize quality over quotas are having quite a moment.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Is on the Same Path as Black Myth: Wukong and That Could Spell Trouble
Image
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has sold more than a million copies within 24 hours of launch. The game is setting new player count records daily and it’s clear that Warhorse Studios has made another exceptional game. Could it be an early Game of The Year contender for 2025?

Game Science was snubbed from Goty last year. | Image Credit: Game Science

Well, as history has shown, commercial success and critical acclaim don’t always guarantee a Goty win. Black Myth: Wukong had the same story last year with it being a genre and industry-defining title only to fall short. These games have proved that single-player experiences are still in high demand. So let’s hope there’s no Sony snub this time.

Japan Cracks Down on Assassin’s Creed Shadows: One Feature Is “Permanently Disabled”
Image
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been in a bit of hot water recently, with multiple allegations being brought against the developer/publisher duo in recent months.

Despite the game being set in feudal Japan, a vocal section of the Japanese audience has not taken to the game too kindly – with many calling Ubisoft out for certain aspects of the game.

In a recent statement made from the official Ubisoft Japan X account, it has been confirmed that certain elements of the game will be missing from the Japanese release, which has only served to infuriate the player base even further.

The last few days have been full of Ubisoft news with the release of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Early Preview. The latest controversy is completely different though.

A new report speculates that a potential Dlc for Assassin’s Creed Mirage could be funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (Pif). On the surface, it makes sense considering the company’s current situation and the Middle East’s increased interest in the industry in recent years. The company has remained tight-lipped about the alleged deal.

Mainstream Gaming Platforms Staying Silent on Black Myth: Wukong’s Game of the Year Win Shows Western Gaming Is Doomed
Image
The gaming industry has always had an interesting relationship with awards and accolades. While some ceremonies claim to represent the voice of the entire gaming community, others let the players themselves decide what deserves recognition. This divide has never been more apparent than with Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science’s ambitious action RPG that took the gaming world by storm last year.

When the players speak, some critics suddenly go deaf. | Image Credit: Game Science

Just weeks after being passed over for Game of the Year at The Game Awards in favor of Sony’s glorified tech demo Astro Bot, Black Myth: Wukong has emerged victorious where it arguably matters most—in the hearts and minds of actual players. The game recently secured three major awards at the Steam Awards, including the coveted Goty trophy, yet the silence from mainstream gaming media is deafening.

This 2025 Wuxia RPG Will Include A PS5 Feature Missing From Black Myth: Wukong
Image
With so many RPGs coming out in 2025, it's easy to miss Where Winds Meet, an upcoming Wuxia-style martial arts action RPG with fast-paced combat similar to Black Myth: Wukong or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Unlike Black Myth: Wukong, however, Where Winds Meet will feature PlayStation 5 optimization and incorporate DualSense technology, a feature that the former game desperately needs. DualSense technology adds a layer of immersion that any and all combat on the PS5 could benefit from, but it could especially help games with dynamic combat mechanics that would be enhanced with better vibration functions and haptic feedback.

These DualSense features will supposedly be a core part of Where Winds Meet and could help to make it a stand-out game in the RPG genre in 2025, though there is some stiff competition. DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers can be properly incorporated into combat and exploration games to give players an overall improved experience.

Pros And Cons Of Adding Difficulty Settings To Black Myth: Wukong
Image
One of the major barriers to entry in Black Myth: Wukong is the difficulty of the boss fights, such as Shingadang in Chapter 2, or the main antagonist and final boss, Erlang Shen. With the new features in December's patch update, it isn't out of the question for future updates to include even more features or tweaks. While adding maps to the game seemed like a universally welcomed addition among players, adding difficulty settings would certainly be more divisive.

While there have been no announcements about including difficulty settings as a patch in the future, it's worth considering the impact this might have on the player experience and whether it would ultimately improve or detract from Black Myth: Wukong. On the one hand, adjustments to difficulty would allow more leniency, possibly bringing in a wider audience originally deterred by difficult bosses. On the other hand, the challenge of Black Myth: Wukong...

The gaming industry was set ablaze when Black Myth: Wukong launched last August, breaking Steam records and earning critical acclaim across the board. However, while PlayStation and PC players have been enjoying Game Science’s masterpiece for months now, Xbox fans are still left wondering when—or if—they’ll get to experience this revolutionary twist on Journey to the West.

It’s been over four months since Black Myth: Wukong took the world by storm, shattering records and capturing hearts with its stunning interpretation of the Journey to the West saga. “Just more proof Wukong doesn’t deserve Goty”: Hilarious Reason Black Myth: Wukong Fans Are Allegedly Review-Bombing Baldur’s Gate 3

The gaming community is no stranger to drama, but sometimes things get so absurd that you can’t help but laugh. In a bizarre turn of events, Baldur’s Gate 3 has become the target of an unexpected review-bombing campaign on Steam, and the reason behind it is both hilarious and face-palm worthy.

Black Myth: Wukong’s Best Patch Addition Avoids A Common Gaming Pitfall
Image
While Black Myth: Wukong may not have won the highly coveted 2024 Goty award, it's still by far one of the best gaming experiences of the year. While the single-player narrative-driven game was wrapped up in a complete package, Black Myth: Wukong has received several updates and content patches since its release that improve the overall experience for both new and returning players. On top of the gameplay content added in the latest patch, an incredible map that fits perfectly with the game's setting was also added.

While the most exciting addition in Black Myth: Wukong's December patch update was the addition of a challenging boss rush mode, the new map feature is a fantastic addition for every player. While a map in an exploration-focused game like Black Myth: Wukong can often detract from the immersive experience, the developers opted for an immersive style that looks straight out of a historical...

A Black Myth Wukong "Clone" Has Been Discovered On The Nintendo eShop, And The Title Has Fans In Stitches
Image
Shortly after a successful showing for Black Myth: Wukong at The Game Awards 2024, where it won in multiple categories, an apparent imitator seemingly "inspired" by its success appeared on the Nintendo eShop, drawing mockery from Switch owners and Black Myth: Wukong fans alike. First released in August 2024, Black Myth: Wukong has enjoyed a largely positive reception from players, having been nominated for Game of the Year.

As reported by IGN, however, a game with an extremely similar title, Wukong Sun: Black Legend, has appeared on the Nintendo eShop, in an apparent attempt to capitalize on Black Myth's popularity and success. Wukong Sun is set to be released on December 26, 2024, and the game's cover art features a 3D render of an anthropomorphic monkey, presumably Wukong, which bears a resemblance to Black Myth's own cover image of its main character, The Destined One. Like Black Myth, Wukong Sun's description relates it to Journey to the West.

The Game Awards Choosing December Instead of January 2025 Conveniently Leaves Out 2 Xbox Game Pass Titles as Sony Makes an Astro Bot Sweep

The problem is that titles released in late November and December often don’t have enough time to truly make their mark before the event. This year, titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Stalker 2 were released and gained widespread acclaim from critics and fans. However, due to their release date, they didn’t get to truly make their mark before the event.

Why is organizing The Game Awards show in December a problem? Tga happening in early December makes...

Forget Shadow of the Erdtree, Henry Cavill’s Favorite Franchise Not Winning a Single Slot at the Game Awards Is Salt on an Already Oozing Wound
Image
The Game Awards 2024 showcased the best that the industry had to offer this year and highlighted some of the most notable achievements this year (except Sony’s apparent influence). However, it was a night of unexpected snubs for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree Dlc, and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2.

It’s sad that it won neither of its nominations. | Image Credit: Saber Interactive

Shadow of the Erdtree was nominated for six awards while Space Marine 2 was nominated for two, but neither won anything. And while you can forgive the losses for Elden Ring‘s Dlc on the counts that it is, well, a Dlc, the same can’t be said for Space Marine 2.

Just the Tip or the Whole Boot, Tga? The Sony Game Awards 2025 Already Has a Remastered Game for PC That Can Win Goty Like Astro Bot
Image
What are Sony and The Game Awards (Tga) cooking together? Astro Bot just won Game of The Year 2024 but it should’ve been Black Myth: Wukong. Sony’s exclusive titles have had a tendency to be nominated for Goty every year. What gives? Another Goty contender this year was Elden Ring‘s Shadow of The Erdtree Dlc.

So if Tga can nominate a Dlc for Goty then they’ll do it for Remasters too. And guess what Sony just announced one. There was an announcement for The Last of Us II Remastered‘s PC release at Tga 2024 so we already know what’s going to be Sony’s Goty contender next year. The remaster of the 2020 title comes out April 3, 2025.

We Are Sorry Black Myth: Wukong Fans – If The Game Awards Is Done Sucking Up to Sony, Maybe Let a Better Game Win Goty Next Time
Image
The Game Awards 2024 has proven, yet again, that it’s less about celebrating gaming excellence and more about maintaining the status quo. While Black Myth: Wukong shattered records and redefined what’s possible in gaming, the jury was busy polishing their Sony-tinted glasses for another mostly predictable year of PlayStation favoritism.

No other nominee came close—or so we thought. | Image Credit: Game Science

Let’s be real here—we’re talking about a game that didn’t just meet expectations; it dropkicked them into orbit. Black Myth: Wukong didn’t need marketing gimmicks or political pandering to become the most played single-player game in Steam’s history. It just needed to be exactly what gamers have been craving: pure, unadulterated excellence.

But apparently, breaking every conceivable record and revolutionizing action RPGs isn’t enough when you’re competing against Sony’s annual Goty reservation. Who needs merit when...

You Can Play Black Myth: Wukong Like an All New Game Even if You’ve Completed It by Turning on One Feature

When Game Science released Black Myth: Wukong, players were treated to a stunningly twisted interpretation of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. With its breathtaking visuals and ambiguous yet compelling storytelling, the game quickly became a masterpiece in its own right. But what if there was a way to experience this epic tale in an entirely new light?

Elder Scrolls 6 Leak is the Perfect Xbox Revenge Plan Against Sony afterBlack Myth: Wukong Scandal
Image
The Elder Scrolls series has been one of the most iconic in gaming, and The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most awaited titles. But will it be affected by the exclusivity war between PlayStation and Xbox? A 4chan leaker certainly thinks so. Take it with a grain of salt though.

The console war may be over with Microsoft prioritizing Xbox Game Pass sales over consoles, but does that mean the exclusivity war is also over? Probably not. Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is coming out on December 9 for Xbox and PC with a PlayStation release scheduled for 2025, The Elder Scrolls 6 could get the same treatment.

10 Reasons Black Myth: Wukong Deserves Goty At Tga 2024
Image
The Game Awards recently announced its picks for Game of the Year, including some controversial choices. The nominees include some heavy-hitters: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Astro Bot, Balatro, Metaphor: Refantazio, the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Dlc (a hot topic of debate), and Black Myth: Wukong, a choice that defies its good but unexceptional critical reception. While the overall response to the game was strong, Black Myth: Wukong falls short of where nominees both present and past rate.

As detailed on the official The Game Awards website, 10 percent of the vote comes from fans, while 90 percent of the decision goes to the jury (mostly composed of press and journalists). Based on past years, these judges often favor action-based RPGs with strong narratives Black Myth: Wukong checks these boxes in a major way, plus some. Although it might not be the most obvious choice, there are plenty of reasons why Black...

Black Myth: Wukong Director Says More "Surprises" Are Coming Later This Year
Image
Black Myth: Wukong developer GameScience has had quite a big year, but according to the latest statement from the studio, it might not be over yet. As an action-packed retelling of the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West, Black Myth: Wukong managed to find a global audience and garner plenty of acclaim. That momentum recently culminated in an Ultimate Game of the Year win at the Golden Joystick Awards, a major annual video game award ceremony.

As reported by Eurogamer, Black Myth: Wukong game director Feng Ji shared in the Golden Joystick Awards broadcast available on the Fgs YouTube channel that "there might just be some surprises" later this year. The message is primarily addressed to those who have already completed Black Myth: Wukong, but it's also part of a broad appeal to keep an eye on what GameScience is up to.

No more specifics are offered, but in...

Best Game of 2024: Black Myth: Wukong Could’ve Lost the Golden Joystick Award to FF7 Rebirth If It Wasn’t For Metaphor ReFantazio

Black Myth: Wukong won the ultimate Game of the Year award at the Golden Joystick Awards this year. Final Fantasy 7 got the second-highest vote. However, some people believe the reason FF7 lost is largely due to Metaphor Refantazio.

There is a high chance that if Metaphor Refantazio was not nominated for the award, the fans would not have been distributed between the two games. Final Fantasy 7 could have had a chance at beating

Final Fantasy 7 and Metaphor have a similar set of fans. Some people believe that their votes cannibalized each other, making it difficult for the former to win. Black Myth: Wukong is by no means an undeserving contender, but FF7 fans are still mad about it.

Black Myth: Wukong Can Break a Game of the Year Curse if it Wins After Hideo Kojima Came Close in 2019

The nominees for the 2024 Game Awards have been revealed and Black Myth: Wukong is one title that stands out from the rest. With a Metacritic score of 81/100, it is the lowest-rated game ever to be nominated for the Game of the Year award. However, with love coming in from all corners of the world, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if this title wins it all.

We have to remember that when Black Myth: Wukong first launched back in August 2024, it ended up breaking all kinds of records on Steam. Even today, this title reigns as the most concurrently played single-player game on the platform. So, there is a very real chance that it will end up claiming the Game of the Year award.

2024 Game of the Year Nominations Signal the Fall of Nintendo Right Before Switch 2 Release
Image
As games make their way to the end of 2024, they are eagerly waiting for the announcement of the year’s biggest honor: the Game of the Year (Goty) nominations. For years, if not winning, Nintendo has made the list with its original titles. However, as the 2024 nominees were revealed, there was a surprising absence: not a single Nintendo title.

The 2024 Goty nominations are dominated by titles from other major studios with even the indie darling Balatro securing a spot. With the Switch 2 set to debut soon, this absence is a worrying sign for a company that has long been synonymous with innovative gaming experiences. Is this the beginning of the end of Nintendo’s reign as a gaming powerhouse?

The Game Award Nominations: ‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ Slices Its Way To Leading Seven Nominations
Image
Nominations for the 2024 Game Awards, which honor the year’s most innovative, unique and impactful story-driven narratives in the gaming industry, were announced Monday.

Leading the pack is the popular Japanese RPG adventure series Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with a total number of seven nominations. Following the critical success of Rebirth, released earlier this year in February, the third and final game in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is officially in active development. First reported by 4Gamer, the Japanese website revealed that during a recent appearance at the G-con 2024 convention in South Korea, Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Square Enix hashed out the third game’s plot and overall concept, marking the pre-production finalization.

Other nominated titles include LocalThunk’s Balatro, Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong and Team Asobi’s wholesome platformer game Astro Bot, which tied with Rebirth for seven nominations including for Game Direction,...

All Black Myth: Wukong New Game Plus Weapons, Ranked
Image
As Black Myth: Wukong fans wrap up their first playthrough, it's likely they missed a few things considering the various secret areas and bosses hidden throughout the game. Luckily, Black Myth offers a New Game Plus mode that gives the Destined One access to all the loot and experience from their previous run, while also adding unique gear. Among the many great incentives to replay Black Myth are the mythical weapons the Destined One obtains near the end of the story, as well as three unique weapons that can only be crafted in Ng+.

[Warning: Spoilers for Black Myth: Wukong.]

The Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff, Stormflash Loong Staff, and Dark Iron Staff can be crafted in Ng+, assuming the Destined One has the required materials. While technically the Jingubang Staff is found near the end of the first run, it will get most of its use in Ng+. Further, the Tri-Point Double-Edged Spear can also...

10 Hidden Features In Black Myth: Wukong You (Probably) Completely Missed
Image
The world of Black Myth: Wukong is full of picturesque landscapes, epic showdowns with dragons, and many hidden features that players might not catch on their first playthrough. Some aspects of Black Myth are made intentionally secret and even lead to otherwise inaccessible, narrative-rich content. Certain gameplay elements, such as upgrading gourds and armor, involve hidden or difficult-to-find areas and retrieving multiple obscure items.

It may be frustrating at first for players trying to make sense of Wukong's various weapon stances, dodges, attacks, etc. Replaying Black Myth multiple times is the only way to truly get a sense of what the game offers, inlcuding unlocking its secret ending, and it will help to have a good idea of which hidden features most players probably completely missed.

Black Myth: Wukong's Sequel Has The Perfect Set-Up Already
Image
Due to Black Myth: Wukong's massive success, a sequel seems all but certain, and the successor will have plenty of content options. After years of teasers, Black Myth: Wukong immediately found a receptive audience at launch. Though initially plagued with some technical issues, the game smoothed out and was received well. It may be a simple game in some regards, but the return to such simplicity and some fantastic presentation have a lot of appeal.

Wukong was not only a massive success critically but also a financial feat for developer Game Science. It was reported the title sold over 18 million copies in its first two weeks, and it has sold a staggering amount more since. This profit is one large enough to inspire a sequel and likely give the studio an even larger budget.
