Following the announcement that Pokémon Go and two other games from developer Niantic have been acquired by mobile game publisher Scopely, the game's product director addressed some pressing player concerns. First launched in 2016, Pokémon Go quickly became a widespread success, popularizing the formula later used in Niantic's Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now. But now that the monster-catching game is under new ownership, fan concerns about how Pokémon Go could change are at an all-time high.
In an interview with Polygon, Pokémon Go senior product director Michael Steranka addressed some common concerns surrounding the acquisition and the game's future direction under Scopely. Responding to a question regarding the potential introduction of intrusive ads to Go, Steranka answered, "definitively no, [intrusive ads and playtime restrictions are] not happening in Pokémon Go – not now, not ever." Steranka added that the developers "will not be building into our games any type of obtrusive ads or anything like that," further...

Few director/actor duos have been operating for as long as Paul W.S. Anderson and his favourite muse (and wife), Milla Jovovich. Over the last two decades, we’ve seen Jovovich fight all manner of fiends and creatures under Anderson’s direction in movies like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. In The Lost Lands, featuring the actor as all-powerful witch Alys, sticks to that formula, offering up an ample amount of both beastly and human foes to slay. But the eyesore visuals and lacklustre plot turn what should be breezy fun into a frustrating bore.
Anderson has been known to mix the digital with the practical in the past, but In The Lost Lands sees him at his most artificial. The post-apocalyptic dystopia he and regular cinematographer Glen MacPherson conjure seems to be aiming for Zack Snyder-esque desaturation but winds up closer to poorly rendered video-game territory, with lighting that feels anything but real.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a massive success and it introduces some of the most unique creatures in the series. But Capcom has left one monster in particular, in the dust. As the only other tentacled monster besides Nu Udra, the Xu Wu is a terrifying new monster that has a lot of potential that could’ve made it even better.

Unlike the average Monster Hunter enemy, the Xu Wu displayed signs of intelligence and adaptability, even attacking a villager due to its ability to recognize Guardian fibers as food. There’s a lot of room for a solid side quest to explore this new monster but it seems like Capcom has other plans.

An unexpected collaboration between Capcom's Monster Hunter and Sanrio's Hello Kitty is coming in April, but it will only be available in select locations. Both franchises are incredibly successful and instantly recognizable, but thematically the characters couldn't be further from each other. Hello Kitty features adorable and cutesy characters, while Monster Hunter tends to favor giant and formidable terrors.
Despite their differences, Bandai is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Monster Hunter franchise with the release of special gachapon keychain figurines. Gachapon are extremely popular Japanese blind-bag machines that reward you with a random special design for a small fee, in this case, 300円 or about $2 Usd.
A new line of Monster Hunter x Hello Kitty keychain designs was announced on the official Gashapon Bandai X page, combining the two franchises in an unexpected collaboration. The keychains will arrive in Bandai gachapon sometime in April.

The video game adaptation genre is one Milla Jovovich is plenty familiar with, and one of her movies is now climbing the streaming charts. After some smaller roles in the late '80s, Jovovich first rose to stardom with her turn as Leeloo in Luc Besson's The Fifth Element. The years since have seen her star in everything from Spike Lee's He Got Gameto Ben Stiller's Zoolander and its sequel, as well as David Harbour's Hellboy reboot.
Her most notable project to date, however, remains that of the Resident Evil movie franchise, an adaptation of Capcom's survival horror video game series of the same name. Partnered with her husband, writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson, Jovovich carried the role of heroine Alice through six movies, while also having starred in Anderson's adaptations of The Three Musketeers and George R.R. Martin's In the Lost Lands. It’s been a rough month for the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds. First, the giant frog-like creature had the unfortunate honor of being the game’s introductory punching bag monster. And as if our collective beating of it wasn’t enough then, it’s about to get even worse.

Capcom has turned it into the star of a new event quest. And the quest essentially encourages hunters to farm it into extinction. The new Tongue-Tied event runs from 11-18 March and offers rare Armor Spheres as rewards. So we can just imagine that the Chatacabra is about to endure another brutal week at the hands of eager players.

Monster Hunter Wilds has definitely brought a new coat of paint to our favorite franchise and is a very ambitious title. The game features a new open world, dynamic weather, and improved mechanics from previous titles. But wait, we don’t get new weapons at all? What is Capcom cooking?
It’s not a bad thing, but it’s still crazy. | Image Credit: Capcom
Let’s take a moment to remember that it’s been over a decade since the Monster Hunter franchise last introduced a new weapon. We haven’t gotten anything since the introduction of the Charge Blade and Insect Glaive way back in 2013’s Monster Hunter 4. It’s been two entire generations, refining existing weapons is one thing, but ten years is a stretch.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds is a major achievement in many regards, but its story-heavy campaign—what the game categorizes as its Low Rank section—puts an unfortunate damper on things. The narrative here is pretty soggy, in that it doesn’t have the structural integrity to support the weight of its seemingly endless dialogue.
The plot of the game concerns the trials and tribulations of a young boy, Nata, who’s been separated from his village in the long-isolated Forbidden Lands and needs your monster-hunting skills to return home and learn the nature of the White Wraith that drove him away. It’s a decent enough excuse to go on an adventure, but Nata—bless his heart, he’s been through a lot—barely utters a single interesting phrase in the course of the game’s approximately 25-hour Low Rank section, and the rest of the cast isn’t much better.

In the Lost Lands.Paul W. S. Anderson is beaming a boyish grin when I log into our video call. Salt-and-pepper hair aside, you wouldn’t guess that the B-movie maven was turning sixty on the day of our chat. “I’m actually getting to spend my first birthday in three years with Milla,” he says by way of preamble while I fumble with my recording device. Anderson is cinema’s preeminent wife guy, and the Milla in question is Milla Jovovich, mother to his three daughters and star of seven collaborations.Theirs is one of the great actor-director partnerships of the 21st century—she the high-kicking badass with charisma to burn, he the no-nonsense conductor of bodies in (slow) motion; the enthusiastic facilitator of his leading lady’s uncomplicated cool. The surly critical dismissal of their new film, In the Lost Lands (2025), tells a familiar story. A popular new Monster Hunter Wilds mod takes the guesswork out of figuring out a monster's weakness. The newest Monster Hunter title continues the legacy of previous games through tough battles with larger-than-life creatures, made even tougher if the player doesn't use the right tools for the job. Part of the hunting experience is about figuring out which monsters are weak against which elements, since using the right element can give you a leg up in the hunt.

A few weeks ago, Arrowhead Game Studios rolled out the Servants of Freedom Premium Warbond in Helldivers 2. Without a doubt, this is one of the best Warbonds in the game, primarily because of the unique weapons it features. On the third page of this Warbond, players can unlock the G-50 Seeker Grenade, and as the name suggests, the grenade seeks enemies and explodes on impact.

It’s safe to say that players love this new grenade, but it seems like the community wants more. A player suggested that Arrowhead could create a Spider Mine Stratagem, a mine that seeks out enemies just like the grenade. This could give some gamers a major deja vu as a weapon like this was a part of Epic Games’ 1999 video game, Unreal Tournament.

“In the Lost Lands” director Paul W.S. Anderson is used to his movies getting released, being under-appreciated and then finding their audience years — or sometimes decades — later.
“I’m British, we are used to considering ourselves being rubbish,” Anderson said. But he is aware that even movies considered flops do sometimes come back in a big way. “You release the movie and no one likes it and then 10 years later they go, ‘That was a great movie.’ Could you not have told me that 10 years ago?” he added.
Anderson started his career in England. He made the low-budget thriller “Shopping” in 1994 which starred a then-unknown Jude Law. The British press was ruthless. Anderson still remembers that one outlet branded the film “a reckless orgy of destruction.” “That was supposed to be a criticism and I loved it so much that we stuck it on the poster,” Anderson said. It was a source of pride.

A good portion of Paul W.S. Anderson’s filmmaking career has consisted of video game adaptations, with his writing and/or directing credits including Mortal Kombat (1995), Monster Hunter, and six Resident Evil movies. Next up for him is a film version of the Sega game The House of the Dead. Uwe Boll directed a film adaptation back in 2003, and that received a sequel in 2005 that was directed by Michael Hurst. Now, Anderson is plotting an adaptation that he promises will be “very, very scary.”

Paul W.S Anderson will write and direct the new adaptation of Sega’s zombie game, which debuted back in 1996 and spawned a franchise as well as a remake in 2022. In a new chat with Variety this week, Anderson details his “very, very scary” vision for the upcoming movie.

If there’s one thing we all love, it’s an underdog story, unless, of course, that underdog is standing in the way of the gaming juggernaut known as Grand Theft Auto. In one corner, we have Split Fiction, the latest cinematic, story-driven masterpiece from the ever-charismatic Josef Fares. In the other corner? The gaming titan, the unstoppable force, the skyscraper-sized elephant in the room, GTA 6.
It’s a battle of passion versus legacy, of creative storytelling versus open-world chaos. Split Fiction is already making waves with its engaging co-op mechanics and emotionally charged narrative, while GTA 6 is poised to do what it always does, break the internet and set new industry records.

It's been a while since we were last in Westeros, but tomorrow, we'll get a glimpse into another of George R.R. Martin's works: In The Lost Lands. This new movie adapts one of Martin's older short stories, and is helmed by director Paul W.S. Anderson.
The original "In The Lost Lands" short story was published in 1982. It told the tale of Gray Alys, a witch from whom unwitting patrons could buy anything they desired — though it was better not to. Things rarely worked out the way Gray Alys' customers expected. When a queen petitions her to retrieve the power to transform into a werewolf from the ominous Lost Lands, Gray Alys enlists the help of a hunter named Boyce to take her out into the deadly wilderness.
In the movie, Gray Alys is played by Anderson's longtime creative partner and wife Milla Jovovich, while Dave Bautista plays the rugged hunter Boyce.

The latest attempt at bringing the works of Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin to the screen has sadly found itself wanting. Starring former MCU star Dave Bautista and Resident Evil lead Milla Jovovich, the epic action fantasy movie In the Lost Lands hails from Mortal Kombat and Monster Hunter director Paul W. S. Anderson who, with this latest adaptation, lands another “rotten” score to his largely green-splattered back catalog.
The first reviews for In the Lost Lands are now in, and the epic action fantasy has sadly been declared “rotten,” landing a score of just 21% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Shawn Van Horn of Collider scored the movie a savage 3/10, saying...
"From the effects, to the acting, and everything in between, there is nothing real in In the Lost Lands. It's an opportunity lost."

Monster Hunter Wilds hasn’t even been out for a full week, and Capcom is already setting a new gold standard for in-game events. Not only did we get a roadmap for future updates at launch, the first wave of in-game event quests are already out too. If only we got this type of speed and transparency in big name existing games like Fortnite and Call of Duty.

As such, Wilds has been the fastest-selling Capcom game in just three days, and the studio has reported more than 8 million sales already. And we already have information on content coming down the road. Paul W.S. Anderson made a big name for himself in the early 2000s as the director of the controversial Resident Evil franchise. Since then, he has gone on to create many action movies like Monster Hunter and The Three Musketeers. His latest endeavor, alongside his long-time collaborator Mila Jovovich, was the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's short story, In the Lost Lands. The movie has all of Anderson's trademark style, and while it has some fun action, it feels like a B-movie that is stuck in 2002.

In a few short days, In The Lost Lands will hit theaters, bringing viewers into a post-apocalyptic fantasy tale dreamed up by none other than A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. In The Lost Lands is one of the many short stories Martin published in the 1980s, and this new film brings it to bombastic life on screen. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, In The Lost Lands is about a witch named Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), who can grant any wish — though you might wish she didn't, by the time her price becomes clear.
When Gray Alys is contracted to procure the ability to turn into a werewolf for a queen, she must journey out into the wasteland known as the Lost Lands. The hitch is that the Lost Lands are filled with dangers; she'll need a guide. Enter Boyce (Dave Bautista), a hunter who spends...

Monster Hunter Wilds has finally arrived, and it is full of fun and interesting gameplay that will have even the biggest Monster Hunter fans playing for hours on end. With a very long story, plenty of monsters to hunt, and all kinds of special achievements to acquire, there is plenty of content to enjoy, but this begs the question: how long does it take to beat Monster Hunter Wilds and earn all of its achievements?
How Long Does it Take to Beat Monster Hunter Wilds?
When it comes to Monster Hunter Wilds, there is plenty of hours worth of content for the player to enjoy. With a story that spans numerous chapters that can easily take 40+ hours, or the numerous side quests and additional hunts the player can take on, there is plenty to keep the player busy.

There was a brief moment — right around the release of “Resident Evil: Retribution,” and the discourse about “vulgar auteurism” that peaked along with it — when it seemed as though Paul W.S. Anderson had found a way to weaponize the nü-metal nothingness of his blockbuster slop into a strange kind of somethingness that nobody else could make. If the first three movies in the survival-horror franchise had systematically drained Capcom’s source material of everything that made the “Resident Evil” video games scary, fun, or at all interesting for any other reason, the fourth one made it seem as though Anderson had tunneled a hole straight through the bottom of the lowest common denominator until he burst through the top of a different artistic stratum altogether; one less concerned with plot or purpose than with the orgiastic fervor of creating recursive spectacle at the end of history.

In the Lost Lands is the latest project from Paul W.S. Anderson. That right there should give you some pause before deciding whether or not to see this movie. While he has found some box office success — mainly with the Resident Evil franchise — the perceived quality has been, shall we say, lacking.
Faults aside, Rotten Tomatoes at least serves as a decent barometer for a general consensus. With the exception of his 2011 documentary Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel, Mortal Kombat at 47%, and Monster Hunter at 70% are his best received movies by critics and audiences, respectively. It’s not going out on a limb to say In the Lost Lands is not going to change that.

At the center of Paul W.S. Anderson’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s short story “In the Lost Lands” is Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), a witch whose business dealings are known to end in ironic tragedy. Nevertheless, she’s tasked to obtain the gift of transforming into a werewolf for the queen (Amara Okereke) of a city built into a mountain, and to do so, Gray Alys contracts the hunter Boyce (Dave Bautista) to take her into the titular realm.
Anyone who’s seen his Resident Evil films and adaptations of Monster Hunter and The Three Musketeers knows that Anderson doesn’t place stock in fidelity to his source material. For one, there’s nothing in Martin’s story to suggest the post-apocalyptic Mad Max-esque world that the film portrays, a wasteland of skeletal ironwork blasted into shades of brown and gray. There are bloodthirsty church agents here who wear old-timey medieval robes,...

Monster Hunter Wilds just dropped on February 28, and the game has already shattered a Capcom record. The latest entry in the series managed to sell eight million units around the world in three days, which is the fastest any Capcom game has hit that milestone. The player count has been pretty impressive since launch. As of this writing and according to SteamDB, its all-time peak on Steam was three days ago at over 1.3 million concurrent players. Related: Monster Hunter Wilds Builds on the Solid Foundation of World Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Here’s how Capcom describes it: Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter series and is set in a dynamically changing world that is in one moment a severe wilderness, swarming with packs of attacking monsters, and in the next transforms into a rich natural environment teeming with life.

It hasn’t even been a week since Monster Hunter Wilds came out, and it’s already sold 8 million copies to become Capcom’s fastest selling game of all time. One of the most popular dishes from Monster Hunter Wilds has had an unexpected real-world impact, boosting sales for a Japanese restaurant to the point where they ran out of cheese.
Monster Hunter games are known for their hearty meals, which are often a key part of the gameplay. These meals not only keep players energized but also provide buffs to help them fight dangerous monsters.
Throughout the game, food is often showcased in scenes, making it hard not to feel hungry after seeing dishes like steak, egg yolk, and pizza.

Monster Hunter Wilds hasn’t even been out for a week and it’s already breaking records on Steam. Despite all the technical issues, players are logging into the game and continuing their monster hunting shenanigans. One of the most talked about topics is about the Wyvern Milk substance that players are coming across in the game’s story.

The Monster Hunter franchise is no stranger to odd materials. But the idea of getting milk from wyverns, which are biologically incapable of producing it, is confusing to say the least. As it turns out, it isn’t what any of us could’ve predicted. Instead, it’s a classic case of a localization/translation blunder. And no, you can’t milk any Rathalos in the game.

Without a doubt, Arrowhead Game Studios does a great job at designing the maps for Helldivers 2. Most of the things on the game’s maps are destructible, however, there is room for improvement. The last main Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Rise, featured environmental traps, so Capcom basically created the environment in such a way that players can use it to take out the creatures.

Helldivers 2 needs to replicate this mechanic, as the game has a lot of potential. Using massive boulders on rocky planets to take out enemies would make the combat experience much more exciting. In the ever-saturated media landscape, blockbuster franchises are a dime a dozen, and video games are no different. Between perennial favorites releasing sequels annually, slews of nostalgia-driven remakes and remasters, and an entire ecosystem of live-service games — themselves amounting to nearly half of all games played daily — everyone is vying for audiences’ attention. With so much for players to focus on, it’s pretty impossible to experience it all. It’s entirely possible that a franchise, even one that’s sold upward of 100 million copies worldwide, can still end up a blind spot for many.

The video game movie curse has been running rampant for years as popular games get adapted into films that are largely inferior to the playable source material. It has become a continuous trend that worries fans, since their favorite games could have disliked adaptations. The curse happened again recently with Borderlands, which people already want a do-over for, and many fear it will strike again with the upcoming releases of A Minecraft Movie and Until Dawn.
However, some adaptations that failed in the past have gotten a second shot in recent years. The 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat and the commercially successful animated flick The Super Mario Bros. Movie are great redemption examples. Those games had prior adaptations in the 1990s, yet their modern interpretations were better because the filmmakers knew what to give fans.
