Netflix has acquired the global rights to Toby Meakins’ horror thriller “Curs>r,” starring Asa Butterfield (“Sex Education”), Iola Evans (“Carnival Row”) and Eddie Marsan.
The deal was negotiated by producer and financier Anton and Stigma Films.
The film, a dark twist on the ‘80s gaming obsession, wrapped principal photography in the U.K. in April, and is currently in post-production.
In the pic, a broke college dropout (Evans) decides to play an obscure, 1980s survival computer game in pursuit of an unclaimed $125,000 prize. But the game curses her, and she’s faced with dangerous choices and reality-warping challenges. After a series of unexpectedly terrifying moments, she realizes she’s no longer playing for the money, but for her life. The game locks her into an inescapable cycle of mind-bending horror. Stopping is not an option. It’s play or die.

Tom Hardy is the face of Sony’s “Venom” franchise, but he’s more than just the star of the upcoming sequel “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” As confirmed by screenwriter Kelly Marcel in an interview with Empire magazine, Hardy is getting the first “story by” credit of his feature film career after “spending months” brainstorming the narrative for the sequel with Marcel. “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” reunites Hardy and Michelle Williams opposite franchise newcomer Woody Harrelson as the eponymous villain.
“This is new for him, to get credit,” Marcel said, “but it’s not new for him to be this involved. He’s absolutely 100 percent committed to everything that he does. He’s married to Venom. He loves this character. He’s very involved in what he thinks should happen.”

Feeling the desperation of their impoverished existence in Bangalore, two friends turn to selling drugs on the side in order to make a living. However, when a guest shows up unannounced requesting a large purchase, the two act in a way that will drastically change their future.
“Breathe” review is part of the Submit Your Film Initiative
“Breathe” offers up a strong sequence capturing violence through feelings of desperation, adding social commentary to frame how such an act can occur. As a result, while the protagonists are far from being commendable for their actions, there is some call towards empathy for their plight.
However, the relatability of the characters is somewhat hampered by what, feels like, an incomplete narrative. Ultimately, the short feels like one part of a larger production, ending on a rather dark note that could have further amped up the dark themes with follow up narrative. This...

Abhishek Bachchan started his acting journey two decades ago and has successfully made a name for himself as an actor and producer. One can be the biggest mastermind of them all when it comes to committing a crime, however there are those little clues that would entrap you eventually. It could be a pen, a lip balm or perhaps, just a footprint; eventually there would be something small out there that would lead to something big.
However, how do you entrap a criminal who commits a crime, forgets all about it and then walks into the room in plain sight?
Well, this is what makes Breathe: Into the Shadows super exciting as there is a character within a character, layer within a layer, and story within a story at play here. What you see may actually seem true, but how do you tackle a situation when there is something explosive, something truly dramatic waiting to be unveiled?

In Mani Ratnam’s Raavan Abhishek Bachchan played Raavan. In Breathe 2, Raavan plays Abhishek. There are mindgames based on the expression of each one of Raavan’s ten heads, manoeuvring Abhishek’s character through a series of clumsy capital crimes . So mindless are these mindgames that one is grateful Raavan had only 10 heads. If there were more, this series may have extended itself into some more episodes. And Breathe would have killed us all with the sheer lack of breathing space in the plot.
This is not to say that the storytelling is taut. Not at all! Loose-limbed and shaggy to the point of seeming lazy, the indolent tone of narration would have been excusable were it not so ridiculously self-important. It is hard to believe that it took four writers(Bhavani Iyer,...

For all of us who have been missing Abhishek Bachchan on-sceen, he was last seen in Manmarziyanin 2018, it’s time to breathe easy. Ab Jr returns in Breathe 2 which seems to carry forward an interesting cinematic legacy: of a father searching for his missing daughter. The classic in that genre is the Kamal Haasan Tamil classic Mahanadhi where the father’s search is so poignant and harrowing it was for me almost unbearable to watch.
Breathe 2: Into The Shadows casts Abhishek as a father, a psychiatrist, searching for his missing daughter. From the trailer, the treatment seems taut and perky. With the camera constantly on the prowl, there doesn’t seem to be a single idle moment in the storytelling.
I just hope the pace is not going so frenetic as to smother the storytelling in dramatic tension.

I just hope the pace is not going so frenetic as to smother the storytelling in dramatic tension.

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace brushed aside President Donald Trump’s belated and questionable remarks about him during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday.
Wallace is NASCAR’s only full-time black driver and has been an outspoken advocate for racial justice, wearing an “I Can’t Breathe” shirt at past races and painting his car with Black Lives Matter messaging. As such, tensions were high last month when — not long after NASCAR banned Confederate flags at its races — a noose was found in Wallace’s garage stall at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama.

Venom 2 has finished and is entering post-production. Producers Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson quickly moved onto the Home Alone reboot for Disney+. With that movie half-finished, Disney will have to get the cast and crew back together again to complete the family comedy. Business logistics aside, there is a general sense of nervousness from the cast and crew when it comes to the eventual return both in production and post, as per Dan Wilson.
The producer was recently interviewed as part of a larger piece detailing the uncertainty surrounding the future of movie and TV production following the current shutdown. Venom 2, officially titled Let There Be Carnage, is one of the biggest movies that had to stop movement in the interest of public health. Though some post-production work is being completed at home. At the open of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s inaugural virtual Hot Pink Evening, the event’s lead co-chair Kinga Lampert reminded attendees that “breast cancer doesn’t stop for coronavirus and neither can we.” And, though the Bcrf’s annual fundraiser looked significantly different amid the pandemic, the show did in fact go on, raising more than $5.2 million for breast cancer research.
Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley, Karlie Kloss, Deborah Norville and Rachael Ray were among the Bcrf supporters who participated in the livestream event, with breast cancer survivors Edie Falco, Joan Lunden, Gretta Monahan, Amy Robach and Anne Thompson sharing their own experiences battling the disease.

Ron Howard has signed up to helm ‘Thirteen Lives’, to tell the real-life story of the 2018 Thai cave rescue.
The story focuses on the real-life story of the boy’s football team from Thailand who became trapped in a cave for more than two weeks when heavy rains partially flooded the cave, blocking their way out.
All twelve of the boys were rescued along with their 25-year-old coach, though the effort claimed the life of a retired Thai Navy Seal, Saman Kunan, who ran out of air while saving the kids. Another rescue diver died a year and a half later as a result of a blood infection contracted during the rescue.
‘Gladiator’ scribe William Nicholson will pen the script. As with most of Howard’s drama’s the tone they will try and set is that of a ‘High Stakes’ filled with unbearable suspense, one that matches up with...

The more emotion-driven a TV series or movie, the more important the soundtrack. And boy is Normal People, the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s wildly popular novel of the same name, driven by the emotion of its characters and world.
Normal People follows Marianne and Connell’s complicated relationship as they move from being teenagers at a small town in western Ireland into young adulthood at Dublin’s Trinity College, and showrunner Ed Guiney, directors Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, music supervisors Juliet Martin and Maggie Phillips, and editor Nathan Nugent have done an impressive job crafting the music landscape for this world.
“We were trying all sorts of tracks ourselves,” said Abrahamson, who mentioned Martin, Phillips, Nugent, and himself as the chief collaborators in the process. “So, as well as the work that Stephen Rennicks, the composer, was doing, it was just, again, a very organic kind of collaboration.

This month, Amit Sadh has completed 10 years in Bollywood. In a regular scenario, this would have been a good enough reason to celebrate and party hard amongst friends and well wishers. However for now, the actor is happy to be ‘surviving’ in isolation, even as he is stranded at the hills with just ‘Maggi’ and ‘plain parathas’ for company.
“Amit has been around for long, courtesy his early stint in television, and though he has made quite a name for himself in the world of films as well as web series today, back in 2000 he had started with Ram Gopal Varma’s ensemble horror flick Phoonk 2. He came on his own with Kai Po Che! [2013] and from there on managed to pick quite a few interesting parts for himself,” says an insider, “While giving company to Salman Khan [Sultan], Amitabh Bachchan [Sarkar 3] and Akshay Kumar [Gold], he has continued to make his presence felt quite well.

Sony Pictures recently delayed the vast majority of its 2020 release calendar to next year. With everything that is going on, and with movie theaters closed for an indefinite period of time, 2021 seems like green pastures at the moment. However, one key movie remains on track for its fall 2020 release in the form of Venom 2. It may well be Tom Hardy coming to save the day when movie theaters reopen, if the current release date sticks, that is.
According to a new report that was released after Sony announced new release dates for its current slate, Venom 2 is still on track to arrive in theaters on October 22, 2020. For the record, Sony has yet to confirm this release date is intended for the Marvel sequel, but they have that date set aside for an "untitled Marvel sequel." Director and celebrated motion-capture actor Andy Serkis has solved his biggest problem surrounding “Mowgli”: convincing audiences that the viewing experience will be substantially different from what Jon Favreau provided in his 2017 Oscar winner “The Jungle Book.” Deadline reports Netflix has acquired the film’s global rights from Warner Bros., meaning millions will be able to stream the epic — made by an old-guard studio — from the comfort of home upon release. A source with knowledge of the production told IndieWire that Netflix will bring Serkis’ second directed feature (following “Breathe”) to its platform and theaters in 2019.
The live-action features were inspired by characters Rudyard Kipling created for his 1894 story anthology “The Jungle Book,” previously seen onscreen with Disney’s 1967 animated film of the same name. While Serkis said his version and Disney’s latter one were once “neck and neck” in the race to completion, “We took our time with the performance capture,...

Although best knowing on the acting side for Inglourious Basterds, Enemy, Beginners, and more, Mélanie Laurent has also been a prolific force in the director’s the last few years. Coming off her excellent drama Breathe, she helmed the French-language drama Plonger and then brought her English-language debut Galveston, starring Elle Fanning and Ben Foster, to SXSW. Based on the book from True Detective writer Nic Pizzolatto, the crime thriller will arrive in France this fall and now the first teaser has landed.

"Are you going to kill me?" "No." The Jokers distribution out of France has debuted the first teaser trailer for an indie film titled Galveston, the latest feature directed by French actress Mélanie Laurent. This originally premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, which makes sense considering it's set in/around Texas and it's also Laurent's first American film. Ben Foster stars as Roy, a man on the run after a violent encounter with his boss. He picks up a prostitute named Raquel, played by Elle Fanning, and decides to take her with him as he tries to escape to Galveston, Texas. The cast includes Lili Reinhart, María Valverde, Beau Bridges, Robert Aramayo, and Adepero Oduye. This really looks like a very dark, intense, moody action-thriller more than a drama, with some slick cinematography.
