"FLOAT3RS - ChatGPT today, Shit Icbm’s tomorrow." Ha ha. A funny sci-fi short film riffing on A.I. called Float3rs is available to watch online now. This is actually the third short in a trilogy of CG animated short films called Floaters, following stories of robots getting into trouble (watch all three below). Float3rs is a wry look at Artificial Intelligence that is so advanced, that it's no longer that intelligent. (Aren't we already there? Ha...) This time we join up with three floating warheads as they discover that there may be a bug or two in their latest operating system update. Good news for anyone wondering: "no AI was harmed or, more importantly, used during the making of the new Float3rs." The A.I. drones in this latest short are voiced by Lucy Briggs-Owen, Verity Henry and Kathryn Bond. It's under 5 minutes and it's funny!

Game of Thrones Star Says Playing A Hated Villain Prevented Him Getting Other Roles
Image
Playing the villain Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones brought Iwan Rheon career success, but also made it challenging for him to land roles as a "nice guy." Rheon found himself typecast as a villain in many of his post-Game of Thrones appearances, limiting his opportunities to play different characters. However, Rheon has recently been breaking away from his villainous image with roles such as Mick Mars in The Dirt and various other projects.

Landing a prominent role in Game of Thrones seems like the kind of gig that would lead to nothing but good things, but for actor Iwan Rheon, playing the hated villain Ramsay Bolton made it difficult for him to get certain roles.

Ramsey Bolton became an instant love-to-hate character in the HBO adaptation of George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Initially introduced as Ramsay Snow, the bastard son of Roose Bolton,...

Game Of Thrones Actor On How The Show Created A Problem For His Career
Image
Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon reveals how the show has typecast him as psychopathic characters, creating a problem for his career. Despite this, Rheon has taken on a variety of roles since the show's end, including playing Adolf Hitler and Mick Mars. He is eager to break away from playing villains and will be portraying a different character in upcoming projects, such as a middle-aged Welsh man and a wheeler-dealer in Ancient Rome.

Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon opens up about how the show created a problem for his career. Based on the ongoing book series by George R.R. Martin, HBO's massively popular fantasy show follows nine noble families fighting for control of Westeros and the Iron Throne. The series, which aired from 2011 to 2019, featured a few despicable characters, none more than the psychopathic torturer Ramsay Bolton, who was played by the Welsh actor Iwan Rheon.

Joseph Fiennes Expresses Regret Over ‘Whitewashing’ With Michael Jackson Role, Says It Was A ‘Bad Mistake’
Image
Joseph Fiennes opened up about his role in playing Michael Jackson in a 2016 episode of Urban Myths.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Shakespeare In Love actor said that people were “right to be upset” and that giving him the role “was a wrong decision” and a “bad mistake.” The decision to cast Fiennes as Michael Jackson caused a significant backlash, accusing the actor of “whitewashing.”

Fans even created a petition to boycott the episode.

“Despite a public struggle with vitiligo, a rare skin disorder that results in the loss of pigment, [Jackson] identified in interviews as a proud black man, and went out of his way to fight for better treatment of black artists in the entertainment industry,” the petition stated.

Jackson’s family was outraged by the casting decision. His daughter, Paris Jackson, tweeted in 2017, “I’m so incredibly offended by it, as I’m sure plenty of people are as well,...

Joseph Fiennes regrets playing Michael Jackson in a pulled episode of the Urban Myths anthology series
Image
When Joesph Fiennes announced plans to play Michael Jackson in a pulled episode of Sky Arts‘ anthology series Urban Myths, the news left people aghast. Joseph Fiennes Regrets Playing Michael Jackson in Pulled TV Episode: A ‘Wrong Decision’ and ‘Bad Mistake’
Image
Joseph Fiennes wants to take back ever having played the King of Pop — even if the episode never saw the light of day.

In a new interview with The Observer, Fiennes expressed regret about the time he played Michael Jackson in a pulled episode of the Sky Arts’ anthology series “Urban Myths” in 2017. A trailer for the episode at the time stirred accusations of whitewashing, with backlash to white actor Fiennes playing the Black singer. The episode centered on a road trip after September 11 in which Fiennes’ Jackson is joined by Brian Cox as Marlon Brando and Stockard Channing as Elizabeth Taylor.

“I think people are absolutely right to be upset,” Fiennes told The Observer. “And it was a wrong decision. Absolutely. Joseph Fiennes Regrets Playing Michael Jackson: 'It Was a Wrong Decision'
Image
Actor Joseph Fiennes is feeling some regret over his controversial portrayal of late singer Michael Jackson. Back in 2017, Fiennes was set to portray Jackson in an episode of the Sky Arts anthology series Urban Myths, and a trailer revealed a sneak peek at the episode with the actor in character as the King of Pop. The trailer generated great controversy with accusations of "whitewashing," and members of the Jackson family had also publicly expressed their displeasure over the portrayal. The episode, which focused on a car trip with Jackson, Marlon Brando, and Elizabeth Taylor, was ultimately pulled from broadcast before it even aired.

“We have taken the decision not to broadcast ‘Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon,’ a half-hour episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series, in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family," a statement from the network said at the time. "We set out to...

Korea Box Office Stages Tentative Recovery as Cinema Restrictions Ease
Image
“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” topped the box office in South Korea over the May Day weekend, beating a handful of minor local titles which released in hope of catching a rising market.

The latest Friday-Sunday period appeared to represent a turning point – a 4.86 million nationwide aggregate was the biggest weekend haul since January – but a slow and uncertain one.

Theatrical box office in Korea has been severely depressed all year due to government-imposed Covid restrictions, audience caution and a paucity of new release local titles. Restrictions in cinemas are now being removed and locally-produced films are dusting off their release plans. But to remains to be seen how much long-term structural damage has been done to the film industry in Korea. A spokesman for cinema chain Cj-cgv told local media that removing restrictions on consumption of food and drink in cinemas has had an immediate, positive effect on ticket sales.

Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, LaKeith Stanfield, and Zazie Beetz in Atlanta (2016)
‘Atlanta’ Shock: Donald Glover Plays Michael Jackson-Like Character in Whiteface
Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, LaKeith Stanfield, and Zazie Beetz in Atlanta (2016)
“Atlanta” is full of surprises, but Thursday’s episode delivered the biggest: Creator and star Donald Glover, in whiteface, played a character who bore an eerie resemblance to Michael Jackson.

Glover isn’t credited with playing the Jackson-like character, a sad, high-voiced musician named Teddy Perkins who lives in almost total isolation. In fact, Teddy is listed in the credits as playing himself.

But fans and critics quickly figured out what was going on. Vulture’s Matt Zoller Seitz said Perkins was “almost certainly played by Donald Glover in prosthetic whiteface,” and a New York Times recap said Perkins “seems to be Donald Glover beneath the unsettling prosthetic makeup and blue contact lenses.”

Also Read: 'Atlanta': 9 Teddy Perkins-Michael Jackson Parallels That Aren't So Obvious

It was probably the weirdest thing ever to happen on “Atlanta,” a show that once featured an invisible car. FX, which airs it, kept details of the episode secret ahead of time, and presented it without commercials.

During the episode, Teddy’s pale skin is speculated upon, but never explicitly explained. We see photos from the past that indicate he is African-American, though he now appears white. At one point he references “a rare skin condition.” (Jackson famously told Oprah Winfrey he had vitiligo, “a skin disorder that destroys the pigmentation of the skin. It’s something that I cannot help.”)

How to portray Jackson onscreen has been a dicey subject before: Last year, the British series “Urban Myths” bailed on plans for white actor Joseph Fiennes to play the King of Pop.

“Atlanta” made a point of clarifying that Teddy Perkins wasn’t supposed to be Michael Jackson. At one point in the episode, he talks about his father and Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson. That established for viewers that Perkins and Jackson exist in the same reality — but not the same family.

Also Read: Donald Glover's Leaked 'Deadpool' TV Script Questions If Series Was Canceled Due to 'Racism'

But the parallels between Teddy Perkins and Michael Jackson are impossible to ignore: They resemble each other, down to their pale skin and chin clefts, share other specific similarities involving Dionne Warwich and ostriches.

There was no comment from FX, and a rep for Glover declined to comment.

The writer-actor-producer, who plays Lando Calrissian in next month’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” has done nothing to avoid attention lately. Last week, he posted a “Deadpool” script after FX scuttled a planned animated series about the Marvel Comics mercenary that he had been planning with his brother, “Atlanta” writer Stephen Glover.

Also Read: Yes, Donald Glover's Derrick Comedy Pals Watch 'Atlanta' - And They Think It's 'So Donald'

In the script, he had Deadpool wondering aloud if FX bailed on the project because of racism, and surmised that Jennifer Lawrence bit Beyonce at a party last year. (Lawrence and many others denied being the mystery actress whom Tiffany Haddish reported seeing bite Beyonce.)
