If you watch a lot of Hallmark holiday movies, you'll notice faces that reappear over and over again. Hallmark is nothing if not reliant on safe, predictable storytelling, and this tendency extends to the people they hire to act in their made-for-tv films -- once you've proven that you can provide a stable, likable presence in a lead role, they'll keep on booking you.
But while Hallmark male stars need to personify whatever romantic fantasy Hallmark is selling -- whether that's sensitive, or caring, or supporting, or rugged, or good at fighting fires -- their actresses have an altogether different responsibility. Since a large portion of the Hallmark viewership is made up of women, these actresses need to be aspirational and, above all else, relatable. We need to be able to see ourselves in them, which isn't as easy a task as it sounds. So when they find a performer who can do it well,...

When I saw there was another remake of the classic story The Secret Garden, I rolled my eyes because I, just like you, am tired of the remakes, and we already have a bunch of this particular story. My favorite being the 1987 TV movie version, featuring a very young Colin Firth, that my mom recorded for me on a VHS tape that I watched over and over. It was a really good movie. Then there was also the 1993 version, which was pretty good too. But upon watching this trailer, I was won over. It’s so beautiful, and an exciting new version my kids will like. Fun fact: this new film also features Colin Firth. My husband says he just can’t escape that damn garden!

I hear Netflix has given the green light to adventure-romance movie Christmas in the Wild. Sex and the City alumna Kristin Davis is in negotiations and Code Black star Rob Lowe is set to headline the movie, which is scheduled to begin filming in Africa in the next few weeks for a premiere during the 2019 holiday season.
Also cast in the movie, written by Neal Dobrofsky and Tippi Dobrofsky (The Wedding March TV movie franchise) and directed by Ernie Barbarash (A Royal Winter), is Lowe’s son John Owen Lowe.
Said to be in the vein of Eat Pray Love, Christmas in the Wild is set against the backdrop of the elephant poaching and conservation battles in the African wilderness. It centers on a woman (Davis) who, after her longtime husband walks out on her just before a family safari, goes anyway. Arriving in Africa she meets a bush pilot...
