One of the most notable anime adaptations of 2024, Dandadan is an explosive, genre-bending shonen adventure that will, without a doubt, go down in history as a modern classic. Produced by studio Science Saru and based on the original manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, Dandadan tells a riveting story that blends science fiction with the occult, romance with high-octane action, and comedy with poignant character drama. Adapting such a kinetic narrative to screen is no easy task. Yet, the Science Saru team did wonders in capturing the unorthodox appeal of Dandadan in their adaptation, elevating the chaotic tale of Momo and Okarun’s adventures to a new level. The individual creators that make up Dandadan’s production team are to credit for the anime’s astounding quality - one of them being renowned anime screenwriter Hiroshi Seko.

One of the biggest adventure anime and manga series of the late 90s, Inuyasha by Rumiko Takahashi is one of his more serious works. The series had a widely successful journey, and to this day, it serves as a means of inspiration for many other manga artists. However, the success of Inuyasha was not easy to pull off at the time.

Ever since Inuyasha started, the one problem that fans had with the story of the series was its repetitiveness. Although the overall narrative was intriguing and filled with thrills, the major themes of the series were repeated with every plot, and this was not good for the series at all. But still, it managed to make a big name for itself and its manga creator.

The recent spike in One Piece’s popularity is extraordinary. From fans to renowned figures of the anime industry like Takehiko Inoue and Yoshiyuki Tomino, many sing praises for Eiichiro Oda’s exceptional skills as a mangaka. It’s not common for those in the manga industry to openly criticize their contemporaries, and an exception to this norm is Hiroya Oku, the creator of Inuyashiki and Gantz.

The creator has been quite vocal about his hate for One Piece, and he is seemingly proud of it, too. He never misses an opportunity to engage in some Oda and Op slander. Sometimes, he takes it too far by incorporating it into his works as well.

The Japanese anime industry is split between a variety of animation studios, all of which work incredibly hard to produce the best anime any fan could ask for. Some animation studios have been at work nonstop since the 1960s to provide entertainment for all, and other, newer ones have caught up with a handful of outstanding titles to their names. One such studio is Studio Mappa, which has quickly risen as one of the biggest names in the anime industry today.
While Studio Mappa hasn't been involved with legendary anime like the shonen "Big Three" or Dragon Ball, Studio Mappa does have an impressive library of other, equally great anime titles under its belt. Ever since its founding in 2011, Studio Mappa and its staff have been cranking out one smash-hit anime after another, several of which totally define the modern anime landscape, most of all of shonen and seinen anime.

Tokyo Ghoul is a favorite among the anime faithful. Its tragic tale of the young, innocent Ken Kaneki pulled at the heartstrings of many who connected with his involvement in a literal identity war. On the other hand, the anime's promise and delivery of bloody battles and sadistic scenes attracted many other viewers.
Given its consistent season orders, massive manga sales, and the sheer number of zipper masks at any anime convention, it's no secret that the war between humanity and ghouls has drawn quite a sizeable crowd. The manga released its final chapter way back in 2014, but Tokyo Ghoul fans might just end up enjoying other anime like this one.
Updated on November 17th, 2023 by Louis Kemner: The Tokyo Ghoul franchise's delightfully bizarre concept, combined with a remarkable sense of character development, has made it truly iconic. Anyone who loved the story of Ken Kaneki the half-ghoul is sure...

Isn’t it just the worst when you’re out with friends at your favorite restaurant and everyone’s discussing Inuyashiki but you’re unable to jump in? "Someday, I'll be the most powerful Shogun there ever was!" Funimation Films has debuted an official Us trailer for a Japanese live-action manga adaptation titled Kingdom, based on the series by Yasuhisa Hara. This is an epic Japanese action film that is actually set in ancient China - hopefully that's not too confusing. Orphaned by war, a young slave boy and his friend dream of changing their fate and becoming the world's greatest generals of the Qin Kingdom. Starring Kento Yamazaki, Ryo Yoshizawa, Masami Nagasawa, Kanna Hashimoto, Kanata Hongō, Shinnosuke Mitsushima, and Takao Osawa. This is directed by veteran Japanese filmmaker Shinsuke Sato, who made the live-action Bleach movie last year, as well as The Princess Blade, Gantz, and Inuyashiki. The movie is actually getting a theatrical Us release next month, for those interested in seeing it on the big screen. It looks seriously epic and awesome from this trailer.

If Takashi Miike has emerged as the “master” of anime/manga adaptations, Shinsuke Sato follows closely behind, having directed films like “Gantz“, “Death Note: Light Up the New World“, “Bleach“, “Inuyashiki” and “Kingdom”, during the latest years. One of his lesser known, but definitely among his best efforts is “I Am a Hero” a production that combines anime aesthetics with zombies and much social commentary.
