A while back, we shared a Best Movie You Never Saw video on the action thriller Sniper, which was given a theatrical release in 1993 and spawned a direct-to-video franchise that is continuing to this day. In fact, a trailer for the eleventh film in the franchise, Sniper: The Last Stand, has just arrived online and can be seen in the embed above. The film is set to receive a digital release on January 21st.
Tom Berenger took on the lead role of sniper Thomas Beckett in the original film, and came back for Sniper 2 (2002) and Sniper 3 (2004). As of 2011’s Sniper: Reloaded, Thomas’s son Brandon, played by Chad Michael Collins, became the lead character in the franchise, and his story has continued through Sniper: Legacy (2014), Sniper: Ghost Shooter (2016), Sniper: Ultimate Kill (2017), Sniper: Assassin’s End (2020), Sniper: Rogue Mission (2022), Sniper: G.R.I.T. – Global Response & Intelligence Team (2023), and now Sniper: The Last Stand.

"Where will you be in the thick of it?" Sony Pictures has revealed the official trailer for an action thriller B-movie called Sniper: The Last Stand, which is being released direct-to-vod later this month. Definitely not a theatrical movie by any means - looks more like direct-to-vhs. "One last stand for humanity." Ace sniper Brandon Beckett and Agent Zero are deployed to Costa Verde to lead a group of elite soldiers against an unrelenting militia. This is the latest in a "sniper" franchise starring Chad Michael Collins as Brandon Beckett - it also includes (yes these are real) Sniper: Reloaded (2011), Sniper: Legacy (2014), Sniper: Ghost Shooter (2016), Sniper: Ultimate Kill (2017), Sniper Assassin's End (2020), Sniper: Rogue Mission (2022), and Sniper: G.R.I.T. - Global Response & Intelligence Team (2023). The The Last Stand cast includes Ryan Robbins, Sharon Taylor, Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz, and Arnold Vosloo. Yeah this is for Sniper fans only. Why are they...

The poster for No Way Up says that it’s from the executive producers of the 47 Meters Down series. That’s not a good sign because it means it’s from the money men behind those films, not the writers, directors or any of the creative types. This time around, they’ve decided to offer their finny cash cows an all-you-can-eat buffet and, taking a cue from Airport 77, they’ve crashed an airliner into the Pacific. That leaves the survivors trapped on the ocean floor in a rapidly shrinking air pocket and surrounded by sharks.
As No Way Up starts things are already looking bad for Jed and Kyle. Kyle’s date for their trip to Cabo backed out at the last minute.

Reacher scored 1.44 billion minutes for the week after Nielsen resolved an issue related to audio asset capture on Prime Video. Earlier figures put the show at 943 million minutes of viewing. The revised rankings also moved Sound of Freedom into the top 10 movies for the week.

If you paid any attention to Netflix in late 2023 you may have noticed a couple of films from a franchise you'd probably never heard of hitting the Netflix Top 10. Those movies were "Sniper: Assassin's End" and "Sniper: Ultimate Kill," both of which are part of the remarkably long-running "Sniper" franchise. The series started with 1993's Tom Berenger-led "Sniper" before becoming a direct-to-dvd series with 2002's "Sniper 2." Since then, Sony has churned out a further eight films, all of which have gone straight to home video/streaming.
Berenger starred in the first three films as Master Gunnery Sergeant and sniper extraordinaire Thomas Beckett. While the first movie was met with middling reviews and made around $18 million at the box office, the great Roger Ebert seemed to like it well enough, giving the film three out of five stars and proclaiming it to be "a pleasure to watch," even if it wasn't "a particularly original film.

Two Sniper movies have become popular on Netflix, including Sniper: Ultimate Kill and Sniper: Assassins End. These movies rank higher than major contemporary blockbusters like Meg 2: The Trench and Gran Turismo. The Sniper movie franchise has a total of 10 films, with 6 starring Tom Berenger and 7 starring Chad Michael Collins.
Two different Sniper movies have become Netflix streaming hits in the U.S. The movie franchise originated in 1993 with Sniper, which followed Tom Berenger and Billy Zane as a pair of snipers attempting an assassination in Panama. The movie didn't get its first sequel until 2002's Sniper 2, which was then followed by eight more installments through 2023's Sniper: G.R.I.T. – Global Response & Intelligence Team. This brought the total to 10 movies, six of which starred Berenger as Master Gunnery Sergeant Tom Beckett, and seven of which starred Chad Michael Collins as his son, Marine Sergeant Brandon Beckett.

Billy Zane returned as Richard Miller in Sniper: Reloaded after 18 years and acts as mentor to young Brandon Beckett. The Sniper series has evolved from serious action thrillers to taking on a more comedic tone across its ten entries. Zane hasn't returned since 2017's Sniper: Ultimate Kill and there's no news of an eleventh movie.
Billy Zane made his return for Sniper: Reloaded 18 years after starring in the original and missing out on the previous two sequels. It's doubtful anybody involved with the Sniper movie franchise could have foreseen how robust it would become. The original Sniper cast Tom Berenger as veteran marine sniper Tom Beckett, while Billy Zane played Richard Miller, a rookie agent he's assigned for a mission. The film was partly a psychological thriller and partly an action movie, and while it was only a modest success in theaters, it became a cult favorite.

Only '90s kids raised in video stores — or, more likely, their dads — will recall Luis Llosa's 1993 military thriller "Sniper" with any clarity. "Sniper" stars Tom Berenger as Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett as he becomes lost in the jungle while trying to complete an assassination mission with a militarily inexperienced sharpshooter played by Billy Zane. The bulk of the film takes place in the woods of Colombia, although it was shot in Australia. The film was well-liked but critics noted that it was pretty generic; Roger Ebert gave "Sniper" three stars, noting that it was competent but lacked originality. The film boasts a 38 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that comes from a mere 13 reviews.
What only fans of "Sniper" might know is that Tom Berenger returned to play Thomas Beckett in Craig R. Baxley's "Sniper 2" in 2002 and P.J. Pesce's "Sniper 3" in 2004. These two sequels...

Luz: The Flower of Evil was shot in two and a half weeks under the simpler title of Luz and renamed to avoid confusion with Tilman Singer’s film of the same name. It’s part of the folk horror revival of the last few years. A revival that includes films like The Witch, Midsommar and Hagazussa. It’s cousin the acid-western has even reappeared in films like Day of the Stranger. Writer/director Juan Diego Escobar Alzate channels Alexandro Jodorowsky to unite the two genres with this, his debut feature.
A major hit on the festival circuit Luz: The Flower of Evil takes a different path from most other folk horror films by not involving older pagan beliefs. It centers itself on Christianity or at least one particular interpretation of it.

Netflix is famously tight-lipped when it comes to revealing how many people are tuning in to its endless supply of movies and TV series, though the streaming giant does occasionally toot its own horn when one of its titles does especially well. Now the company is experimenting with a weekly list of its most-watched offerings in the UK, with nature docuseries “Our Planet” topping the first edition.
In a Twitter thread, the company announced that it will be releasing such lists on a weekly basis from here on out. To compile them, “we look at the most-watched individual season of a show, film or special (regardless of when it launched). ‘Watched’ means members finished at least 70% of one episode.”
“It’s a test as we want to make sure this information is useful for you,” Netflix added. “So we may tweak it in the weeks ahead. eg. we’re not including kids right now.
