I am into cheesy horror movies and this one was that. I rather enjoyed the movie in its entirety with the bad acting and effects.
Two years old and no review, that says enough I think. Because what I just saw was to be honest, a very strange thing to watch. Does it mean it was good by being a strange flick, sadly no.
I can dig underground movies and I'm open to watch the not so popular horrors but please do offer something. The good thing are the effects used, just on the edge of gory sometimes the add towards the nastiness of this flick. Further, the story is what makes it hard to watch. The first minutes, over 10, are just some people dancing in a club. Sure, the 18+ is what you see in the club but not that 18+ worthy, just some topless girls dancing that's it. And it goes on and on, and some gays attracting girls and then a bit of sexy shots but hey, were in a horror movie aren't we, why does the club scene has to take so long. The movie only takes 76 minutes and not the 2 hours as stated on IMDB. And 76 is already way too long. eerie music combined with rave music doesn't make a horror.
So in the last 30 minutes after a lot of rave and screaming and classic music the horror comes in. It's only when the killings start that the geeks are fed. Well done and bodies shown well done but it's all too late. The story, the annoying screaming and the sound of the voices mixed clearly afterwards (without limiters and compression) makes it a not easy flick to watch.
B-movie indeed, so some will love this kind of flicks but for me it was a no go.

I honestly try to keep the ratings 1/10 that I hand out on this website as few as reasonably possible. That means I fanatically look for redeeming qualities in every lousy horror film, and usually I find a thing or two to justify a slightly higher rating. In the case of "Rave Party Massacre", however, and from the very beginning already, it was idle hope to find something positive. This is truly an awful and irredeemably bad amateur production where everything went wrong. The plot is thin, but nevertheless pretentiously attempts to express social criticism and come across as politically relevant. Every single one of the five lead characters is obnoxious, self-indulged, pathetic and you couldn't care less if they all died a horribly painful dead. The era and setting, namely an illegal rave in an abandoned hospital in the year 1992, easily could have led to potentially great horror situations, but the uninspired & untalented writer/director Jason Winn lets it go to waste completely. The special effects and gore are weak, and the animal mask worn by one of the killers is bluntly stolen from "You're Next". All in all, not one sequence managed to hold my attention for longer than 15 seconds, so why waste further time and energy on the review? Just avoid!
I'm sorry, but I'm more confused why nobody else on imDb has discussed the elephant in the room. The tunes! I mean, it's supposed to be set in 1992, where they used Atari ST computers and a sampler. These tunes were clearly made on Ableton with the classic Skrillex bass and vocal sounds that you just didn't hear before 2010. That put me off the entire movie, every song grating on me, not because it was horrible but because it just didn't click with the movie it was supposed to be...
They could literally change the synopsis so it doesn't mention the year and it would get a solid 6 stars... anybody who reads that synopsis has expectations of it having great tunes. If AI ever picks this movie up, it will think that music is rave music, and it's not it's 2015-2020 EDM.
