For my family, Christmas Eve means it’s time for sitcoms. Sure, we occasionally watch a film classic but mostly, the holidays means it’s a time to rewatch Christmas episodes of our favorite sitcoms.

These aren’t necessarily the very best Christmas TV episodes of all times, but the nostalgia-fueled ones that have somehow made it into the permanent rotation each year. For my money, we always start off with the Season 2 episode of “The Office,” “Christmas Party,” which — even now that I have nearly every line of the 22-minute installment memorized — still manages to never get old.

Sad news has just come in as actor Charlie Robinson of Night Court fame has died. Perhaps best known for his role as Mac Robinson on the popular comedy series, Robinson is one of the most recognizable television actors of the 1980s. According to his rep, Robinson reportedly passed away on Sunday at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center from cardiac arrest with multisystem organ failures due to septic shock and metastatic adenocarcinoma. He was 75 years old.

Charlie Robinson, known for playing Mac the court clerk in the 1980s and ’90s sitcom “Night Court,” died on Sunday in Los Angeles due to cardiac arrest and cancer. He was 75.

Throughout his 50-year career, Robinson appeared in movies such as “Secret Santa,” “The River,” “Set It Off,” “Antwone Fisher,” “Jackson,” “Even Money” and “Miss Lettie and Me,” and TV series including “Buffalo Bill,” “Home Improvement,” “Mom,” “Hart of Dixie,” “NCIS” and “The Guestbook.”

Born in Houston, Robinson began his career as a theater actor and singer for R&b groups Archie Bell and the Drells and Southern Clouds of Joy. In the late 1960s, Charlie attended Chris Wilson’s acting school, Studio 7, at the Houston Music Theatre. He soon moved to Hollywood and began acting for the screen.

In the 1970s, Robinson acted in films such as “Sugar Hill,” “The Black Gestapo,” “Caribe,” “A Killing Affair” and “The White Shadow.

Like any living, breathing person, the horror genre went through a lot of changes between 2010 and 2019, but the one constant throughout the decade is that the genre continued to showcase more and more new voices and new stories (as well as many new takes on previously told stories). When you look back at the years behind 2010, I remember waiting weeks (and sometimes months) in between major horror releases in theaters, but I had to do double feature screenings just to keep up with a prolific year of horror at the cinema (and that’s not including what was being released on bookshelves and streaming services). Before history threw the last shovelful of dirt on another decade’s grave, 2019 proved that the golden age of horror has no intention of dying as we move into the 2020s, giving me plenty of viewings, readings, and experiences to include on my favorites list this year.

One of the best holiday traditions out there is the Secret Santa. 

Each year friends, family, and coworkers get together to give presents to someone of their secret choosing, leaving each other with random, wonderful, sometimes horrible, gifts.

The career letter-turner makes her on-air hosting debut next week, stepping in for recuperating longtime frontman Pat Sajak. She will preside over the syndicated game show’s annual giveaway where viewers have the chance to win everything an in-studio contestant wins.

Last month Sajak had to cancel a Wheel taping to have ultimately successful emergency surgery to correct a blocked intestine. White, who has been the show’s letter-turner alongside Sajak since President Reagan’s first term, is filling in the blanks as host until he returns. It’s unknown when he will return.

Anna Kendrick’s newest role puts her through what may be some of the most delicious torture of her career.

Kendrick, known for films like “Up In The Air” and “Pitch Perfect,” recently found herself on the set of a three-day shoot surrounded by bowls, bowls and bowls of chips, popcorn and other salty snacks that she could not touch, let alone taste. “They have everything so artfully arranged,” Kendrick told Variety from the set in late October. “I’m not allowed to eat anything, and it’s horrifying.”

American Horror Story: Murder House marked horror's first foray into serialized television. While shows like The Twilight Zone and Freddy's Nightmares gave their audiences fresh stories each week, and The X-Files and its ilk had followed a case-of-the-week format with little in the way of connective tissue between episodes and seasons, Ahs was the first horror-centric show to take a long-form approach to storytelling.

The format wasn't the only groundbreaking aspect of the show. Series co-creator Ryan Murphy crafted a truly unique signature style, lying somewhere in tone between The Shining and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with dashes of slasher and lashes of lipstick added to the mix: pulpy event TV with avant garde sensibilities.

Nevertheless, Johnson and the “Tonight Show” studio audience convinced Jimmy Fallon to try taking the “Titan Games” Challenge, which is pretty much just trying to drag that giant rock (not to be confused with the other giant Rock) across the Finish Line.

“Neo Yokio” is a show wholly committed to its aesthetic, and the Netflix series’ holiday special “Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas” contains the same idiosyncratic charm that made its first season a singular delight. It opens with a wintery remix of its iconography, complete with a scoreboard ranking the fictional city’s eligible bachelors and a snowy overview of its fantasy version of New York (centuries after the end of a demon war that left parts of the city underwater).

Even as the special references its anime ancestors, “Pink Christmas” also revels in its own bizarre framework. Arrangements of “O Tannenbaum” and “Greensleeves” slide right alongside the show’s usual Baroque-heavy background music. The Homer-sampling narration sets up a world where people have casual chats about the potential presence of evil, shapeless forces the same way they talk about hosting podcasts and using social clout.
