Be prepared for mayhem, menace and monstrosity as this year’s FrightFest three-day event, housed at the iconic Glasgow Film Theatre, presents a curated programme of new features and shorts which showcases the vibrant mix of talented filmmakers currently bursting onto the genre scene. The programme includes four world premiere features, while the short film showcase – a regular fixture at Frightfest London taking place for the first time in Glasgow – highlights filmmakers exclusively from the UK and Ireland, including two from Scotland.
FrightFest kicks off in mind-bending style with a special screening of Psyche, directed by Stephon Stewart (Bigfoot County). This thought-provoking sci-fi thriller boasts a riveting performance by Sarah Ritter, as Mara, who, with the aid of a vintage 1980s computer, embarks on a surreal journey where nothing is as it seems. Stephen will be attending the screening.

The holidays are finally here, and there’s no better way to embrace the festive spirit than by rewatching the hilarious Christmas episodes of The Office. After all, no one could mess up Secret Santa worse than the Dunder Mifflin employees. Well, the season 2 Christmas Party episode stands as the proof, with hilarious moments and unforgettable lines.

One of the most memorable scenes in the episode features Dwight’s unexpected interpretation of Jim’s gift for Pam during the chaotic Yankee Swap, leading him to quote a line from Titanic. And surprisingly this has earned a special place in the heart of The Office writer Michael Schur, in fact, it’s his favorite joke from the entire series. Steve Carell once handed out more than laughs; he handed out spankings. And one Marvel star owes their rise to a hilariously awkward moment in The Office. Yes, the infamous spanking scene might’ve made audiences cringe, but it was a career-launching jackpot for this actor.
Steve Carell from The Office | Credits: NBC
Turns out, sometimes it takes an office-level humiliation to kick off a Hollywood-level glow-up. And let’s face it, no one could’ve pulled it off with such bizarre charm like Carell and his soon-to-be-famous co-star did.

For my family, Christmas Eve means it’s time for sitcoms. Sure, we occasionally watch a film classic but mostly, the holidays means it’s a time to rewatch Christmas episodes of our favorite sitcoms.
These aren’t necessarily the very best Christmas TV episodes of all times, but the nostalgia-fueled ones that have somehow made it into the permanent rotation each year. For my money, we always start off with the Season 2 episode of “The Office,” “Christmas Party,” which — even now that I have nearly every line of the 22-minute installment memorized — still manages to never get old.
The Dunder-Mifflin fun follows the office Christmas event, complete with a Secret Santa game that quickly goes to hell. It’s character-driven humor which is particularly impressive for early in the run of the program. Romance fans get some sweet, iconic early Pam/Jim stuff with the teapot with “bonus gifts...

The Office's enduring appeal is in its improvised comedy and endearing characters. The cast's character breaks also make for hilariously iconic skits.
The Office co-stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey said the cast broke character while filming a scene for Season 6, Episode 13. "Secret Santa" was a rollercoaster ride for the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch, because it was Christmas and there were rumors of a shutdown. Kevin Malone (played by Brian Baumgartner) also fulfilled a lifelong dream in that episode: making a wish while sitting on Santa's lap. In the Office Ladies podcast, co-stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey said everyone in that scene was barely keeping it together while Baumgartner and Steve Carell were doing their bit.

With the festive season around the corner, what better time to dig out the Christmas episodes of The Office? Unfortunately, there isn't one for every season, with only seven such episodes. Season one was quite short at just six episodes, whilst season four ended earlier because of the 2008 Writers’ Strike. Nevertheless, there's plenty to dig into.
As well as keeping in the spirit of December joy, the Christmas episodes are often crucial to the ongoing plots. Whether that's with Pam and Jim's relationship, or bringing Holly and Michael back on the scene with the possibility of them getting back together, each episode is there for a reason, alongside getting viewers in the mood for Christmas. Of course, watching them in chronological order will make sense in terms of plot, but the following list lays the episodes out in order of what's most festive, starting with the least.

Tis the season to be scary and Screambox has got you covered with a trio of brand-spanking-new Christmas-themed horror movies that go perfectly with cookies and milk in front of a warm fire.
Now streaming on Screambox from the director of Jason Goes to Hell is Secret Santa and the awesomely creepy anthology Night of the Missing.
That’s not all! Just in time for Christmas break, Santastein will make the long winter’s nights anything but silent on Dec. 19.
Since Black Christmas, holiday films have been a refreshing sub-genre within horror. These films offer a much-needed contrast to the “all is well” narrative that is so often depicted in seasonal films. The angst and anxiety of holiday horror offer a cathartic release because for many the holidays are not perfect, and we don’t see ourselves in the yuletide rom-coms.

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Alongside exclusives like Secret Santa and Night of the Missing and such classics as Black Christmas and Silent Night, Deadly Night 2, here are five Christmas horror recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
Christmas Evil
Not to be confused with the innumerable Santa slashers, Christmas Evil (also known as You Better Watch Out) is tonally more in line with Taxi Driver than Silent Night, Deadly Night. Writer-director Lewis Jackson clearly had no interest in making a body count flick; instead, he explores the psyche of a mentally unstable man who happens to dress up as Santa and kill people. The low-budget grit adds to the dark atmosphere.

TLC released a Christmas documentary called The Secret Santa in 2014 that aimed to prove the existence of Santa Claus through eyewitness testimonies and video evidence. The documentary is presented as a true story, using home videos and interviews, but closer inspection reveals that it does not follow conventional documentary guidelines. TLC likely created The Secret Santa to put its own unique spin on the popular Christmas movie genre and to stand out among the many other holiday films being released. However, the movie may not have been as successful as they hoped.

Since its inception, DreamWorks Studio has weaved magic into the animated medium, especially in the way the studio redefined anthropomorphic characters by transcending a mere humanistic approach in their depiction and imbuing them with a distinctiveness of their own. While Puss in the Boots or the Kung Fu Panda franchise emulate this trait in the best possible way, the 2022 hit venture The Bad Guys has also proven to be a memorable entry in that regard. Centered on the eponymous team of miscreants, The Bad Guys quickly rose through the ranks of the best animated movies in recent years and gained appreciation for its self-aware humor, heart, and the classic mix-up of 2D and 3D animation styles the studio has mastered through the years.

Horror fans will recognize Adam Marcus as the director of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday and the co-writer of Texas Chainsaw, two divisive but oft-discussed entries in their respective franchises. He recently returned to the genre to helm Secret Santa, a holiday horror-comedy streaming exclusively on Screambox.
The second installment in our three-part interview with the raconteur focuses on Texas Chainsaw, the 2013 direct sequel to 1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, including glimpses at how the original screenplay differs from the final movie.
“When you see the line ‘Do your thing, cuz’ and people are angry at you for writing it, and you didn’t write it, you just start getting really frustrated about the state of modern filmmaking and the voice that filmmakers have,” Marcus confesses.
The Grudge scribe Stephen Susco wrote the first draft, but as Marcus tells it, “Lionsgate did not want his script because it was about cannibals.

Necrostorm’s slaughterhouse actioner hails from co-directors Emanuele De Santi and Giulio De Santi, and the film also stars De Santi as Adam. Following the suspicious death of his wife, he investigates her murder and discovers mafia boss Denny is involved. Unable to trust the corrupt police,...

The first installment in our three-part interview with the raconteur focuses on Jason Goes to Hell, currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, along with the upcoming retrospective documentary Hearts of Darkness: The Making of the Final Friday and a potential Creighton Duke-inspired spin-off.
“People who don’t like Jason Goes to Hell are rabid. They’re not your average haters; they’re knives-out from the second you meet them,” Marcus says with a chuckle. “When people go, ‘That’s not canon,’ I’m like, ‘No, bitches, it’s canon! I made Jason a Deadite. I did that!'” he beams.

Our collective hunger for fresh Thanksgiving Horror will hopefully be satisfied this week with the release of Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving in theaters, but what other holiday-themed horror movies can you watch to get into the spirit of Thanksgiving in the coming days?
There aren’t all that many to choose from – don’t forget the 1987 cult classic Blood Rage! – but a select few can currently be streamed on the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox.
Here’s all the Thanksgiving Horror now streaming on Screambox…
First up, cannibalistic pilgrims dish out gory carnage in director Erick Lorinc’s low-budget indie The Last Thanksgiving, which premiered at Salem Horror Fest back in 2020.
In the retro-style slasher, which is home to a handful of particularly nasty kills, “A family of cannibalistic pilgrims attacks a restaurant that stays open for Thanksgiving.”

The frightful weather outside has nothing on the family gathering in Secret Santa. Adam Marcus, who is best known for unleashing the gonzo Friday the 13th entry Jason Goes to Hell upon the world, truly outdid himself with this over-the-top Christmas horror movie. Which is saying a lot considering the events of Jason Voorhees’ sole ‘90s outing. After some time away from the genre, though, Marcus returned in 2018 with a comedy as black as coal. Christmas cynics will naturally be drawn to the promise of a family going off the deep end during the holidays. However, this seasonal shocker may prove to be too much even for the biggest of scrooges.
For many folks, Christmas is the most joyous time of the year. For April Pope (A. Leslie Kies) and other members of her family, it’s the most dreadful. The director’s own internal struggle with Christmas is channeled...

“As friends and family gather near, to celebrate another holiday season, they have no idea a murderer lies in their midst. With drinks flowing, a distant and dysfunctional, affluent family is unaware that their yuletide libations are laced with a truth serum that will bring holy hell down on their holiday gathering. Sad news has just come in as actor Charlie Robinson of Night Court fame has died. Perhaps best known for his role as Mac Robinson on the popular comedy series, Robinson is one of the most recognizable television actors of the 1980s. According to his rep, Robinson reportedly passed away on Sunday at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center from cardiac arrest with multisystem organ failures due to septic shock and metastatic adenocarcinoma. He was 75 years old.
A veteran actor whose career spanned more than five decades, Charles Robinson achieved great fame when he was cast as court clerk Mac Robinson on Night Court. Joining the series in its second season, Robinson would remain as one of its most popular characters through its ninth and final season, ultimately starring on the series between 1984 and 1992. Though he typically went by Charlie, Robinson was credited as Charles Robinson on the series.

Many people have a very intimate relationship with books. And horror books can get under your skin like no other medium, whether you’re peering at a scary novel under the covers as a youngster or devouring new or classic horror as a grown up. Good horror writing sticks with you.

Like any living, breathing person, the horror genre went through a lot of changes between 2010 and 2019, but the one constant throughout the decade is that the genre continued to showcase more and more new voices and new stories (as well as many new takes on previously told stories). When you look back at the years behind 2010, I remember waiting weeks (and sometimes months) in between major horror releases in theaters, but I had to do double feature screenings just to keep up with a prolific year of horror at the cinema (and that’s not including what was being released on bookshelves and streaming services). Before history threw the last shovelful of dirt on another decade’s grave, 2019 proved that the golden age of horror has no intention of dying as we move into the 2020s, giving me plenty of viewings, readings, and experiences to include on my favorites list this year.

I’d like to solve the puzzle: “Vanna White Will Host Disney’s Secret Santa Holiday Giveaway On Wheel Of Fortune?” Right you are.
The career letter-turner makes her on-air hosting debut next week, stepping in for recuperating longtime frontman Pat Sajak. She will preside over the syndicated game show’s annual giveaway where viewers have the chance to win everything an in-studio contestant wins.
Last month Sajak had to cancel a Wheel taping to have ultimately successful emergency surgery to correct a blocked intestine. White, who has been the show’s letter-turner alongside Sajak since President Reagan’s first term, is filling in the blanks as host until he returns. It’s unknown when he will return.
As for the Wheel of Fortune holiday promotion, in episodes airing from December 9-20, every in-studio contestant will become a “Secret Santa” to an at-home viewer. If the viewer has a Wheel Watchers Club Spin ID number,...

Anna Kendrick’s newest role puts her through what may be some of the most delicious torture of her career.
Kendrick, known for films like “Up In The Air” and “Pitch Perfect,” recently found herself on the set of a three-day shoot surrounded by bowls, bowls and bowls of chips, popcorn and other salty snacks that she could not touch, let alone taste. “They have everything so artfully arranged,” Kendrick told Variety from the set in late October. “I’m not allowed to eat anything, and it’s horrifying.”
While this project had some of the trappings of a blockbuster film, chances are most people won’t see it in movie theaters. Kendrick was in the midst of filming a massive two-minute commercial for treat-maker Frito-Lay, and her efforts are no doubt as important to executives at that PepsiCo-owned company as her next choice of film might be to...

What's a Christmas love story without a little misunderstanding?
One of Lifetime's Christmas movie queens, Keshia Knight Pulliam, was back for Radio Christmas, a cute holiday film about a radio DJ who got relocated to a little town called Bethlehem.
We're talking Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for the record.
Kara was a joyous, bubbly woman in the holiday spirit 24/7 and all 365 days a year. How else can you describe a woman who runs a Christmas radio station all-year-round?
She would be the worst person to be around if you're one of those people who can't find the holiday spirit until 12:01 on December 25.
She's most certainly the type of person who has her Christmas decorations up by October.
But, according to the woman with two different names, she was a magnetic person whom everyone in town loved.

With season nine on its way, Murder House remains the jewel in American Horror Story's blood-soaked crown. Here's why...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
American Horror Story: Murder House marked horror's first foray into serialized television. While shows like The Twilight Zone and Freddy's Nightmares gave their audiences fresh stories each week, and The X-Files and its ilk had followed a case-of-the-week format with little in the way of connective tissue between episodes and seasons, Ahs was the first horror-centric show to take a long-form approach to storytelling.
The format wasn't the only groundbreaking aspect of the show. Series co-creator Ryan Murphy crafted a truly unique signature style, lying somewhere in tone between The Shining and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with dashes of slasher and lashes of lipstick added to the mix: pulpy event TV with avant garde sensibilities.

Better hope Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson never pulls your name in a Secret Santa situation. On Wednesday, the pro wrestler turned movie star’s holiday gift to Jimmy Fallon finally arrived. Nice gesture, but no one wants to see a 250-pound boulder branded with the “Titan Games” logo under their tree.
Nevertheless, Johnson and the “Tonight Show” studio audience convinced Jimmy Fallon to try taking the “Titan Games” Challenge, which is pretty much just trying to drag that giant rock (not to be confused with the other giant Rock) across the Finish Line.
Fallon couldn’t quite budge it by himself, but he eventually got by with a little help from his friends.

Lin-Manuel Miranda joined Jimmy Fallon for some holiday cheer as the duo parodied tracks from artists like Migos, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Cardi B with Christmas-themed lyrics. After Miranda appeared onstage and mentioned he had an idea, Fallon asked, “Are you saying that we should sing a medley of popular songs from 2018 but change the lyrics to make them about the holiday season?”
Fallon and Miranda took to the stage with a few sultry dance moves, switching up the words to Camila Cabello’s “Havana” to be about a drunken mall Santa.

Matt Damon returns to host NBC’s Saturday Night Live this weekend, and is off to a good start with the show’s weekly promo video. Crushed by a lousy Secret Santa gift, Damon expresses the disappointment some of us will feel if his Brett Kavanaugh doesn’t make a return appearance.
In the video, Damon, musical guests Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson, and cast members Beck Bennett and Cecily Strong gather on the bough-decked Studio 8H stage to enjoy a Secret Santa gift exchange. It is, Damon says, his favorite day of the year.
I won’t spoil the secrets, but all gifts save one aren’t exactly the stuff of holiday dreams. Check out the holiday episode promo above.
The episode will mark Damon’s second time as host, but his stand-out appearance came a few months ago when he gave one of the highlights of the SNL...

Matt Damon is once again on hosting duty for this week's Saturday Night Live, and he's kicking off the holiday episode with a tense Secret Santa.
In a promo for his upcoming appearance, the actor declared, "Secret Santa is my favorite day of the year." As musical guests Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson began the gift-giving process, the group's enthusiasm collectively diminished when a turkey sandwich emerged as the first present.
Beck Bennet tried to explain to Ronson, the recipient of his gift, that the sandwich was meaningful to their friendship, though no one seemed ...

“Neo Yokio” is a show wholly committed to its aesthetic, and the Netflix series’ holiday special “Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas” contains the same idiosyncratic charm that made its first season a singular delight. It opens with a wintery remix of its iconography, complete with a scoreboard ranking the fictional city’s eligible bachelors and a snowy overview of its fantasy version of New York (centuries after the end of a demon war that left parts of the city underwater).
Even as the special references its anime ancestors, “Pink Christmas” also revels in its own bizarre framework. Arrangements of “O Tannenbaum” and “Greensleeves” slide right alongside the show’s usual Baroque-heavy background music. The Homer-sampling narration sets up a world where people have casual chats about the potential presence of evil, shapeless forces the same way they talk about hosting podcasts and using social clout.
