I had enjoyed this series right up until the final episode. The last episode was very disappointing, almost felt like it was put together after the writers had run out of ideas. Some great actors. If the series had been wrapped up better I would have definitely scored the series higher

The most memorable item in this hyped up series was the incriminating Advertising board that went round the city in an attempt to disgrace the naughty husband, Wes. Actually Wes had such a naughty gleam in his eye that anyone with sense would run off with him. The singing in the shower? We all do that, I enjoyed this series and took it for what it is, a piece of diversion on a worknight, and Sue Johnston and Polly Walker are always great people to watch anyway. So take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy, that's good in these hard times.
A soap melodrama, maybe 3 star.
Robson Green & Polly Walker bring it up.
Dishy James Murray, (Wes isunrealistic dog) is 45- could hardly be married for 30 years to 53 y.o. beautiful Polly, Bel. Her real life husband is 10 years younger. They make men younger all the time with too young women. as much as 20-25 years. so OK if he plays 55- she could hardly be in her 40s if married 30 years.

Inconsistent, unbelievable characters who act illogically and who, as such, are totally unlikeable or just plain stupid.
Any drama requires the viewer to feel some sympathy/empathy towards one character at the very least. Good luck finding one here!

Started off reasonable, but went down hill quickly. Are we supposed to believe that Wes, (who must be all of 35 in real life) would have been married to Bel for 30 years, he looked young enough to be son! If such a script can be approved by the BBC then god help us. No you don't have to watch it, but come it was poor, not the casts fault, it's a job but not good for their credibility. Let's hope that was the end of it, but if there is another series please please please, cut the mad women on a scooter scenes. Sue, you are far too good for such rubbish!!!

Cheesy, silly and enjoyable. Loved the Manchester location. Not to be taken seriously just a easy to watch programme.

The first three episodes are pretty good. After that is goes downhill. The ending is ridiculous
and leads to nowhere.

Age before beauty is unlike your normal BBC Dramas. It had a positive vibe whilst having gripping storylines which is achieved as a result of fantastic acting. Though it can be slightly predictable and cheesy at times it is unlike anything you'll ever watch and I highly recommend it!

I sadly watched all of the series and will never get that time back.
The storyline is laughable with a total and utter disconnect from reality and the emotional responses from the characters were from some alien planet.
What was the bursting into song about?
It's so bad I can't put it into words.
Also when the actors are being filmed in HD please can they attend to their facial hair.
Old Greene had a mini toupee growing out of his ears and Wes had more hairs growing out of the front top area of his nose than a cat has whiskers. It's really gross as I have a 65 inch screen.
Don't bother with this on catch up.

This is one of the worst shows I have ever watched & I'm old. Robson Green is such a talented actor but I can't believe he signed on for this. The plot is completely unintelligible and there is not one likeable/sympathetic character in the whole show. Skip it!

Yes it's absurd, yes it's a bit cheesy and predictable in places but I can say from personal experience that this is how crazy real life can be - aside the bursting into song (although I do a mean Bonnie Tyler tribute in the shower).
It was an enjoyably gripping series, each character had the gritty undertones of reality, ingenious links and malicious intent made for a great watch - really hope there is a season 2!

OMG. Could Bel's kids be more ungrateful, snotty, and cruel? The whole thing starts out with her sending them off to college, suggesting that she has given them everything and offered unconditional love. Fast forward several shows later, and the kids are treating her like garbage. They're the brattiest humans who ever lived. Totally disgusting.
The musical numbers are just plain stupid. Why?
And why do people get remarried so quickly?
Overall, a terrible show. But I did watch, which means I will never get that time back. Kind of like a bad accident. You don't want to look, but you're drawn in.
I'm not sure why these good actors agreed to be in this. Wait: the money! That has to be it.
Whew!

So this programme has me stumped. I want to love it and it could be great if it wasn't for the stupied comedy/musical out of place scene they put into each episode. Who's idea was that and why did nobody stop them. I do enjoy the story lines and the cast, just leave the silly at the door and it would be a great series.
Utter garbage. So rediculously unrealistic about relationships and people's emotions. Is my take away suppose to be..."its okay to cheat on your spouse, as long as you come home?" Dysfunctional drama

What I cannot understand is why such talented actors as Sue Johnstone and Robson Green signed up for this?
Starts off as an almost credible storyline with some depth to characters but then descends into something more akin to a spoof. A spoof of Dallas set in a Manchester beauty salon.
There is some comedy provided by Sue Johnstone's character and it might have been better to write the whole series as a comedy drama rather than something that one cannot take seriously.
