John Oliver opened the Nov. 19 episode of Last Week Tonight with a few jokes at the expense of both George Santos and Fabio.
Oliver noted at the start of his HBO show the news regarding disgraced congressman Santos, who, on Friday, became the first U.S. House member to be expelled in more than 20 years. He is also only the sixth House member in history to be removed by his colleagues.
The move came after Santos became the subject of a scathing ethics committee report on his conduct after details about his life story were found to be embellished or false. Among the claims he later admitted to fabricating were that he hailed from Jewish ancestors and worked at top Wall Street firms, including Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, along with where he went to college.
Prior to the expulsion, Oliver made a joke about Santos.

“Dancing With the Stars” Season 32 kicked off right on schedule on Tuesday night, with all 15 couples, even temporary holdout actor Matt Walsh, hitting the dance floor for the first time.
“Bachelorette” star Charity Lawson and partner Artem Chigvintsev earned the highest score of the evening for their Tango, which judge Bruno Tonioli proclaimed to be “exquisite,” while Carrie Ann Inaba said it was “stunning,” especially for Week 1.
Charity took the lead from singer Jason Mraz, whose Cha-Cha-Cha with Daniella Karagacha to his own song, “I Feel Like Dancing,” prompted Bruno to dub him “the one to watch.” Jason, who claimed his higher-than-average dancing skills were due to an “extra vertebra,” earned a “7” from each judge.
After the audience votes were added, “Rhobh” star Mauricio Umansky and “Veep” star Matt Walsh were in the bottom two. Matt’s “non-traditional” Cha-Cha-Cha with partner Koko Iwasaki received a “4,” from each judge, a decision the audience booed.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem marks the seventh big-screen appearance of the beloved reptile brothers. But for those who've been living in a sewer, there are also plenty of direct-to-video and streaming films, various TV series, including live-action, CGI, and traditionally animated attempts to capture the turtles, video games, comics, and more merchandise than you can shake a green, three-fingered fist at.
Who would've guessed, least of all Turtles' creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, that the shelf-life, or rather, shell-life of these characters would see them appear regularly in new iterations since 1984? It's either testament to some innate conceptual brilliance (how else would a name as ridiculous as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles become a household name), unparalleled merchandising, or the amalgamation of options, that these characters have continued apace for four decades.
With any property with cross-generational appeal, fans have their favorite eras, and those eras remain the...

Of the ten music videos that got the most views in their first 24 hours on YouTube, nine are from K-pop acts: There’s five BTS videos on the list, three Blackpink videos, and one video from Blackpink member Lisa. How have K-pop artists managed to have such big YouTube debuts? To answer that question, you’ll have to ask the audience — and read the sophisticated streaming playbook one fan group has put together.
That group is the Blinks, the catch-all name for Blackpink‘s fandom. When the formidable foursome — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — released the music video for ‘Pink Venom,’ the Blinks wanted to make sure that the group’s first single in two years made a splash. That’s exactly what happened.

BTS lit up the Grammys stage with their performance of "Butter" on Sunday night, with memorable moments like Jungkook coming down from the ceiling, V whispering sweet nothings into Olivia Rodrigo's ear, and J-Hope almost wiping out midsong (but saving himself like the smooth dance master he is). However, while Jungkook, V, J-Hope, Rm, Jimin, and Suga danced throughout the performance like usual, Jin, aka Worldwide Handsome, stayed seated for most of the performance. While ARMYs certainly know what's going on with Jin at all times, many of the non-bts stans tuning into the Grammys might be wondering why he wasn't dancing along with the rest of the group.
On March 19, Big Hit Entertainment announced on BTS's fan app, Weverse, that Jin had surgery on his hand. On March 19, they wrote, "We would like to provide you with some information regarding BTS member Jin's finger injury. Jin injured his...

For all the posturing and promises extended to women in music for years, the music industry has proven almost entirely ineffective at diversifying the mostly male ranks that create music’s biggest tracks. That’s according to the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative’s latest “Inclusion in the Recording Studio?” report, which for the past five years has analyzed gender makeup of artists, songwriters, and producers behind all of the tracks on the Billboard’s year end Hot 100 and on the nominations for major Grammy categories, effectively quantifying how little representation...

The cast of luminaries that first-time filmmaker Lisa Hurwitz assembles in documentary The Automat have one thing in common – extreme adoration for the famed Horn & Hardart eateries, whose soaring ceilings, famed coffee and wholesome vending-machine meals for a nickel dominated the food scene in Philadelphia and NYC through much of last century.
Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Elliot Gould, Colin Powell, Starbucks founder Howard Shultz and the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg get kind of emotional recalling the thrill of putting a coin in a slot, opening a glass window and pulling out Salisbury steak, macaroni and cheese, creamed spinach. And dessert. Brooks and Reiner looked downright hungry recalling the coconut cream and chocolate pudding pie. Brooks was such a fan that he wrote and performed a song, “At the Automat,” with a 26-piece orchestra.
The Automat phenomenon started in 1902 on Chestnut Street in Philly. Ten years later, its its first NYC location opened in Times Square. It expanded fast, fueled by immigration and women joining the workforce. It was cheap and democratic, all were welcome and everyone came, from fur-clad matrons to construction workers. Tables were communal. Bader Ginsberg recalled happily doing homework there before weekly piano lessons.
Then came a slow decline, hastened by inflation, fast food rivals, a flight to the suburbs, the decline of inner cities, and some bad business decisions by a new crop of executives. The last location, on 42nd and Third Ave., closed in 1991.
Hurwitz, who grew up in LA, said she became interested in the concept and history of cafeterias as a student at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash. She heard of Horn & Hardart (Automat founders Joe Harn and Frank Hardart) and turned her research into a short film project senior year. She had a series of arts-related jobs before moving to New York to work with Italian PR firm Barabino & Partners, keeping the film back-burnered but going. Her Kickstarter campaign got the attention of (Jaws) screenwriter Carl Gottleib, whom she’d once met organizing a film festival. He introduced her to Brooks.
As for Ginsberg and Powell, “I just wrote the two of them letters in the mail. A letter to the U.S. Supreme Court. I did a lot of these. Anyone that I thought would be a good interview that was of the right generation. I didn’t know for a fact that they were customers,” she told Deadline.
The film premiered in Telluride and the Film Forum offered a screen, where it opened last weekend to a hefty $18, 645. It’s added two more locations in LA for a weekend gross $13,665, $4,555 PSA, for a cume of $38,837. Hurwitz’ A Slice Of Pie Productions is self-distributing with the help of Gary Rubin/Grc. “It’s just what made the most sense based on the offers we were receiving to hold onto the film and to maximize it.”
Specialty grosses:
Uar’s Cyrano debuted in 797 locations to $1.4M for a PTA of $1,757.
Paramount’s The Godfather 50th Anniversary earned $900k in 156 locations for a PTA of $5,769.
Shorts TV and Magnolia Pictures opened 2022 Oscar Nominated Short Films on 355 screens for a weekend total of $402,200 and a PSA of $1,133.
Blue Fox Entertainment opened Butter on 308 screens for a debut weekend of $78,450 and a PTA of $255.

BTS transformed The Late Late Show into a nightclub with a lively performance of their hit single “Butter.” The appearance, which featured a light-up dance floor, was in celebration of the late night show’s 1,000th episode.
The group’s performance comes on the heels of their four-night concert series in Los Angeles, which saw the musicians bringing out several special guests. BTS has since announced they will be taking a “period of rest,” which will mark the Korean group’s first major break since 2019.

With the cast of up-front and behind-the-scenes personalities being honored or presenting at Variety‘s Hitmakers, presented by Peacock & Girls5eva. it was hard to pick out highlights. But if we could get Jack Harlow talking about the last award he won before being named Variety’s Hitmaker of Tomorrow (spoiler: he was in the second grade!), or decade award winner Lana Del Rey telling us who is tops on her bucket list of future collaborators (spoiler: only one of them is in his 80s!), those have to go to the top.
Here are five memorable takeaways from the weekend’s star-studded event pulled from the Variety “On the Carpet” show presented by Amazon Music.

The Grammys got a little more predictable this year — which was good, if you have a bookie, or if you’e a journalist who’s been sulking for years over your consistent failure rate in prognosticating these things. Much of it comes down to the nominating committees having been abolished this year after being gatekeepers for the last quarter-century. For better or worse, the new field was without the famous “committee picks” that used to shake things up… and squeeze out more obvious choices like the Weeknd and Ed Sheeran.
So thank God for Jon Batiste for coming in and making us turn off our snooze alarm as the nominations unfolded Tuesday morning that, unbeknownst to us all, he was actually the music phenomenon of 2020. As for the rest of our snubs and surprises, they weren’t always all that shocking, even if we were making predictions for BTS to...

SEEEverything to know about Grammys 2022
There were major changes in how these nominees were decided. Chief among those was the elimination of the nomination review committees. For decades those committees would take the top 15 or 20 vote-getters in their categories and decide which would be the final nominees. Those secret, anonymous panels often produced surprising results: this past year The Weeknd was shut out entirely. He decided to boycott the awards, joining in a chorus of music stars who have criticized the voting process. Some of the criticisms even came from inside the house,...

Grammy nominations are tomorrow, November 23, so let’s take a brief and final look at who will get nominated for two of the big prizes: Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
The main contender this year is definitely Olivia Rodrigo. Her hit “Drivers License” is a good bet for nominations day, especially with it being a very baity, personal ballad that will surely tug some heartstrings. The song was a big hit, spending eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, and it also received acclaim from both audiences and critics.
SEE2022 Grammy predictions: Album of the Year
That said, Olivia will be facing heavy competition from another young singer-songwriter, and one who’s looking at her third Record of the Year and second Song of the Year wins: Billie Eilish, whose “Happier Than Ever” is also pretty much a lock for the nomination. She proved her status as...
