The hits keep on coming. 2025 has been a difficult year so far, and now the independent film community mourns the loss of one of its patron saints, Independent Spirit Special Distinction Award winner David Lynch. He was 78.
Born a year after the end of World War II, the man behind Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, and others knew how to delve deep into the post-war American psyche. His films had their own internal logic that worked on a subconscious level, while still being exciting, funny, and humanistic. Then there was the cosmic dread, which was one of Lynch’s signatures. He externalized anxieties into celluloid nightmares, whether that was the fears of fatherhood in Eraserhead, the unease about small town values in Blue Velvet, or the “possibility that love is not enough,” as stated by Major Garland Briggs in Twin Peaks.
He was the definition of a cult artist,...

Few television shows, if any, have conjured more apt descriptions than “Twin Peaks.” I’ve heard it called “hilarious” and “terrifying,” “tender” and “savage,” “inspirational” and “heartbreaking,” sometimes in the same breath. It’s been labeled “stupid” by people I consider brilliant, and “brilliant” by people I consider less than qualified to assess such things. Viewers have combed every corner of David Lynch’s long-lingering frames for extra tidbits of intel and meaning, while others spot those blood-red curtains hanging over black-and-white tiles and can’t change the channel fast enough.
Plenty of TV shows — and yes, “Twin Peaks” and “Twin Peaks: The Return” are unquestionably TV shows — evoke mixed, even contradictory, reactions that can be deemed fair critiques by an impartial observer. But how many of those shows invite a seemingly infinite number of reactions, almost all of which could be justified? Is “Twin Peaks” a “boring” TV show?...

Daily Soap Dish – Prince Andrew’s recent entanglement in a Chinese spy scandal may have finally pushed King Charles to his limit. Following a year of attempts to evict his brother from the Royal Lodge, the King may now be taking a firmer stance.
This latest scandal, following a string of controversies, has reportedly caused “further embarrassment” for the Royal Family, according to royal commentator Sarah Louise Robertson. “
Sarah Ferguson herself said, ‘Let’s not make any protests, keep our heads down, let’s not bring further embarrassment and cause trouble to the King and to the rest of the royal family,'” Robertson revealed on Gb News.
Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein initially tarnished his image and led to his resignation from royal duties in 2020. However, despite these setbacks, Charles continued to include his brother in official events, albeit with increasing reluctance.

Prince William has outlined his vision for a modernized monarchy in an interview, sparking speculation about the future of royal leadership and subtle criticisms of his father, King Charles III.
The Prince of Wales, speaking during his Earthshot Prize trip to South Africa, emphasized a “small r” approach to royalty, focusing on empathy, collaboration and impact.
“I’m trying to do it differently, and I’m trying to do it for my generation,” William told The Times. “It’s more about impact, philanthropy, collaboration, convening and helping people.”

Exclusive: Camila Mendes will no longer be starring in the Sony reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. We understand the Riverdale actress could not make the production dates work given her starring role in the upcoming mega Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films title Masters of the Universe in which she’ll play Teela.
As we previously reported, Mendes will headline Masters of the Universe opposite Nicholas Galitzine, who plays He-Man. Her character, Teela, is a warrior and the Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard. She’s responsible for protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam aka He-Man.
Deadline previously reported that Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King are set to star in I Know What You Did Last Summer, and that Sony was having talks with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprising their roles.

British Royal Family: What’s Next For Prince Andrew Once King Charles Boots Him Out The Royal Lodge?
King Charles will inevitably kick Prince Andrew out of The Royal Lodge as that day is quickly approaching. Last year, it became apparent that the Duke of York could not keep up with the maintenance of the 30-bedroom mansion, as the building needed significant repair.
Andrew Will Have To Move Into A More Modest Home
King Charles recently withdrew his funds for Andrew’s private security. Unless he can come up with the financial resources necessary to fix and maintain the home’s damages, the Duke of York will need to vacate The Royal Lodge with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
The question remains: what options are available to Andrew? We know His Majesty suggested his brother move into Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan, but he wasn’t too thrilled with that idea. He doesn’t want to downgrade to a smaller residence.

No more garden parties, grand balls, and the likes for Prince Andrew. According to a royal expert, he’s basically living in exile, cut off from many of the things he once enjoyed.
And what’s worse? He could now barely maintain the 30-room royal lodge he refuses to leave despite the royal property coming with a hefty annual maintenance fee.
These days, Prince Andrew gets criticized for riding a horse, so you can imagine the least thing the Duke of York, 64, would want is to be in the spotlight.
In an interview with Fabulous, the editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine opined that the disgraced Prince’s world is now very narrow.
Prince Andrew’s World “Is Very Narrow” As Duke Shies Away From Criticism
She claimed: “The Duke of York is quite limited as to where he can go, because he obviously doesn’t want to be photographed and then subsequently criticised.

Bruce Campbell pitches a potential Sky High reboot as a TV series, revealing he's open to returning as Coach Boomer for a revival. Sky High has an enduring appeal, with many of its cast members continuing to appear in the superhero genre. With the superhero genre still thriving and audiences familiar with superhero tropes, Campbell's Sky High pitch holds promise.
At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Bruce Campbell pitches a potential reboot of his and Kurt Russell's 2005 Disney superhero movie Sky High. Starring Campbell as a superhero-turned-teacher with a destructive voice, the movie followed a young teen with two celebrated hero parents enrolling in a school for potential heroes as he waits for his latent powers to kick in. A success with critics and at the box office, Sky High has attracted a cult following, and many of its stars have returned to the comic book movie subgenre in the following years.

Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala are back with another harrowing tale, but this time hewing closer to real life than providing a genre twist. The Devil’s Bath, which premiered at Berlinale earlier this year, follows a woman in 1750s Austria who commits a horrible act to be freed from her isolated life. Starring Anja Plaschg, David Scheid, and Maria Hofstätter, the first trailer and poster have now arrived ahead of a U.S. release.
Here’s the synopsis: “In 1750 Austria, a deeply religious woman named Agnes has just married her beloved, but her mind and heart soon grow heavy as her life becomes a long list of chores and expectations. Spoilers are ahead for I Saw the TV Glow's ending.
I Saw the TV Glow and Twin Peaks share themes and plot ideas, especially when it comes to shared identities, doubles, and doppelgngers. The film pays homage to Twin Peaks with references to characters like Maddy or locations like the Roadhouse. With an atmosphere of menace and a reliance on the blurring of the real and unreal, I Saw the TV Glow feels connected to Twin Peaks.
When conceiving their second feature-length film, writer-director Jane Schoenbrun drew on '90s cult classics for inspiration. While I Saw the TV Glow pulls from young-adult television hits like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, the filmmaker has cited David Lynch's Twin Peaks as a huge influence. From I Saw the TV Glow's eerie soundtrack and its more surreal storytelling elements to the atmospheric menace that permeates the film's suburban setting,...

Casting Liam Neeson in a reboot of the Leslie Nielsen franchise The Naked Gun may seem at first glance to be purely linguistic, but they have a lot more in common than just their names. They both made big career shifts in their 50s, with Nielsen gravitating toward classic comedies like Airplane and The Naked Gun; Neeson moved from heavy dramas to kickass action thrillers. Both of them retained their gravitas and skill, no matter the film.
Still, it seems like a willful choice of casting against type from Paramount, though Seth MacFarlane had supposedly been courting Neeson for the role since 2015. And it doesn't end there. Earlier this week, news broke that Sandra Hüller was in talks to play the love interest of Neeson's character, Frank Drebin Jr. Hüller was nominated for Best Actress at the 96th Academy Awards, and starred in two Best Picture nominees, Anatomy of a...

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival stands as testimony to the kingdom’s unwavering drive to become a film and TV industry powerhouse amid regional conflicts, political turbulence and societal changes.
The Israel-Hamas war caused cancellations of several movie celebrations across the Arab world, including the Cairo Film Festival and Tunisia’s Carthage Film Days. But Saudi’s rapidly growing fest is forging ahead undeterred with its third edition set to run Nov. 30-Dec. 9 in Jeddah, on the Red Sea’s eastern shore.
In early October, after the war broke out, “we were assessing the situation day by day,” recalls pioneering Saudi producer and philanthropist Mohammed Al Turki, the event’s CEO, who notes that Red Sea organizers at that point reached out to filmmakers in the Middle East and North Africa region for feedback “and they almost had a heart attack when we told them we might not continue.

Spacesuits are a key part of Starfield armor, and one trick that makes it possible to get a great suit ahead of time makes for a major early-game upgrade. As an RPG with a galactic focus, Starfield transforms armor from the traditional medieval protection found in The Elder Scrolls games or the clunky steel contraptions of Fallout into a sci-fi take on an astronaut's apparel. Fortunately, many of the game's spacesuits are both more attractive and more powerful than the puffy white or orange ensembles commonly associated with space expeditions, significantly improving their fundamental appeal.
Starfield's progression is generally built around a normal ramp of incremental upgrades, but the breadth of the game has the potential to make alternative methods slip through the cracks. The key place to be when looking for a jump on armor is The Lodge, the headquarters of Constellation. This organization is one of several key...

The primary objective of any comedy movie is to keep its audience laughing. To achieve this goal, ridiculously unrealistic plotlines and over-the-top characters lead the charge. But comedy can also be created through overly melodramatic or devious plots of cartoonish-style villains. Unfortunately, not every antagonist can pull this off.
Some comedy films focus so much on the jokes and gimmicks, that the antagonist feels secondary. Their presence is either lackluster from their introduction like in Madagascar or shoehorned in for some third-act drama like in Just Go With It. In either scenario, these antagonists were so unmemorable that it's a wonder why they even needed to be included in the first place.

DC fans choose the best actor to play Lois Lane in the Dcu's Superman: Legacy. With the birth of the Dcu comes a new group of actors who will portray DC's extensive cast of characters. James Gunn's announcement for the Dcu's first chapter, "Gods and Monsters," lists a variety of confirmed projects, but it includes no mention of the actors who will star in them, with Viola Davis' Amanda Waller being the only likely exception. But even before major DC characters such as Batman and Superman are cast, fans are already coming up with their own choices for key figures like Lois Lane.
Reddit user Blue_Robin_04 shares his interest for Riverdale actor Camila Mendes in the Dcu's Lois Lane opposite the Dcu's yet-to-be-recast Superman. The DC fan argues that Mendes' performance as Veronica Lodge in Riverdale aligns with Lois Lane's characterization due to Veronica's kind but no-nonsense personality.

Croatian writer-director Juraj Lerotić’s “Safe Place,” an emotional story of a family reeling in the wake of a suicide attempt, took the top prize at the Sarajevo Film Festival, which wrapped a record-setting 2022 edition in the Bosnian capital on Friday night.
The Heart of Sarajevo Award for best feature film was given by a jury headed by Austrian filmmaker Sebastian Meise (“The Great Freedom”), which included French filmmaker Lucile Hadžihalilović (“Earwig”), Croatian writer-director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović (“Murina”), Serbian actor Milan Marić (“Dovlatov”) and Israeli producer and consultant Katriel Schory.
“Safe Place” plays on Lerotić’s own pained family history, with the Croatian multihyphenate taking on the lead role in his deeply personal story — a performance that also earned him the award for best actor in Sarajevo.

The following contains The Flash spoilers
The Flash Season 8 Episode 15
One of the biggest overarching mysteries of The Flash season 8 has been the question of what, exactly, is going on with Iris West-Allen. Since developing a mysterious time sickness in season 7, she’s been frequently experiencing lost time, suffering debilitating headaches, and randomly making objects—and sometimes people!—disappear, with little to no consistency or logic.
At the end of last week’s episode, Iris herself vanished, leaving Barry and the rest of Team Flash desperate to track her down, a search that involves a dangerous trip into the Still Force itself and results in one of the show’s trippiest hours to date, at least visually speaking.
“Into the Still Force” also marks The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace’s first time in the director’s chair, something that he calls a “labor of love” and a “real collaboration” with...

Global streamer Starzplay and L.A.-based Spanish-language streaming platform Pantaya have re-teamed with U.K. production-distribution giant Fremantle and the Larraín brothers’ Fabula on sci-fi miniseries “The Shelter” (“El Refugio”).
Starring Alberto Guerra (“La Jauria”) and Ana Claudia Talancón (“Como Caído del Cielo”) and directed by Argentina’s Pablo Fendrik (“El Ardor”), “The Shelter” wraps principal photography this week after 10 weeks of filming in rural areas around Santiago de Chile.
In industry terms, “The Shelter” forms part of a burgeoning axis between like-minded and complementary players in the U.S., Latin America and the U.K. who have been involved in some of the most exciting, relevant and artistically ambitious of recent Spanish-language dramas hitting screens or in the pipeline, whether “La Jauría,” “Señorita 89” – where all four companies partner – or “Express.”
The series captures Fendrik on tremendous TV form after making “Amongst Men” and “The Bronze Garden,” both for HBO Latin America.

AMC Networks has given a six-episode series order to Moonhaven, a drama from writer-producer Peter Ocko (Lodge 49, Black Sails) about a utopian colony on the Moon that may hold the keys to preserving life on Earth, which has become increasingly perilous. The series, produced by AMC Studios, is slated to debut on AMC and AMC+ next year.
Moonhaven was developed under AMC’s scripts-to-series model, which includes the commissioning of a writers’ room to develop additional material and produce backup scripts for projects the network brass are high on. AMC Studios opened a writers room for Moonhaven earlier this year.
Ocko, who is under an overall deal with AMC Studios, created Moonhaven and will serve as showrunner on the series, which he executive produces with Deb Spera.

Exclusive: AMC Studios has opened a writers’ room for Moonhaven, an AI drama from writer-producer Peter Ocko. The project is being developed as part of AMC’s scripts-to-series model, which includes the commissioning of a writers’ room to develop additional material and produce backup scripts for projects the network brass are high on. In success, the projects move from the writers room straight to a series order. Ocko, who is under an overall deal with AMC Studios, would serve as showrunner if Moonhaven moves ahead as a series. Veteran producer Deb Spera has joined him as a non-writing executive producer on the project.
Moonhaven focuses on Bella Sway, a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler 100 years in the future who finds herself accused of a crime and marooned on Moonhaven, a utopian community set on a 500 square mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon to find solutions...

Malgorzata Szumowska and Michal Englert’s “Never Gonna Snow Again,” one of the buzziest titles out of the Venice Film Festival, has found distribution in the U.K., Italy and Germany.
Following what’s understood to have been a competitive process with wide interest, Picturehouse Entertainment has swooped for U.K./Eire rights. I Wonder has bought the film for Italy, and Real Fiction are on board for Germany. The film is sold internationally by The Match Factory.
“Never Gonna Snow Again” world premiered in Venice on Sept. 7 to critical acclaim. The film tells the story of masseur Zhenia, who hails from the Ukrainian city of Pripyat, which was deeply affected by the nearby Chernobyl blast. Zhenia enters the lives of the rich but troubled residents of a bland, walled-off community in Poland, where he begins to heal them with his hands and companionship, and changes their lives for good.
