"Seinfeld" had plenty of guest stars during its nine-season run. While many of them managed to antagonize the main characters in-universe, a select few actually got on the real-life Jerry Seinfeld's nerves. Arguably the most famous example is Seinfeld's feud with the real-life "Soup Nazi," but that was about the character's inspiration -- noted soup chef Ali Yeganeh of Soup Kitchen International -- being affronted by Seinfeld's version instead of anything Larry Thomas (who played the fictional Yev "Soup Nazi" Kassem) did. However, one particular star's cameo managed to get right up in Seinfeld's face ... literally.
In the "Seinfeld" season 5 two-parter "The Raincoats," Judge Reinhold memorably plays Aaron, Elaine's latest boyfriend who has an unfortunate penchant for standing really close to people when he's talking. During his career, the late Philip Baker Hall was one of the most underrated character actors in Hollywood. Hall's earliest on-screen role came back in 1970, but he gained praise for several "breakout" roles later in life, including an outstanding late-'90s streak that included "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia," and "The Talented Mr. Ripley." By the time of his passing in 2022, everyone seemed to know Hall's great work, even if he wasn't a household name. But according to Hall himself, the world first got to know him by another name that stuck with him for decades: Lieutenant Bookman from "Seinfeld."
Lieutenant Bookman was one of many idiosyncratic characters who stepped through the comedic revolving door that was "Seinfeld." The character, played by Hall, appeared in just two episodes of the hyper-popular sitcom -- season 3's "The Library" and the show's polarizing series finale -- but he made a strong impression. Despite beginning over three decades ago, Seinfeld still stands up as one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. While most people will recognize the main characters as the greatest strengths of the show, there are plenty of standout characters that are not Jerry, Elaine, George, or Kramer. Given Seinfeld’s thriving second life on streaming and its popularity among a generation with no memories of the 1990s, it should come as no surprise that the slightly surreal world of history’s greatest sitcom is now completely foreign to new fans. I mean, how is Gen Z supposed to understand that Rudy Giuliani was once a respected public figure?
Unlike the show itself, so many of the references on Seinfeld have since aged out of the zeitgeist to the point that, for a young person watching the show in 2024, Seinfeld might as well take place in an alternate universe. Entire classic plot lines no longer make sense to someone raised in the internet era, such as Kramer’s Moviefone scheme, the Kenny Rogers Roasters sign story and the entire episode “The Merv Griffin Show.” And it’s easy for such youngsters to assume that Larry David and his...

The story of Avatar: The Last Airbender mainly focuses on Avatar Aang's incredible journey to save the world from certain doom in the Hundred-Year War, but he can't do it alone. Aang has a whole team of friends known as the Gaang, and the first two to join were the brother/sister duo Sokka and Katara. They each had a role to play and often took center stage, with Katara being Aang's emotional supporter and first waterbending teacher.
Sokka, meanwhile, often served as the brains of the outfit with his creative, resourceful mind. He wasn't a bender and was only a mediocre warrior, but he made up for it with his sharp mind and strong grasp on tactics. That, and Avatar fans love Sokka because of his wacky personality, including his love of meat, his incisive sarcasm, and outstanding humor. Ten particular Avatar episodes stand out as the best examples of Sokka's smarts,...

Awash in controversy and nail-biting scares alike, 2023's Late Night With The Devil is a frightful entry into the found-footage canon. Its chaotic runtime is led by David Dastmalchian's bone-chilling performance as Jack Delroy, the charismatic late-night host who is harboring dark secrets behind his camera-ready smile. The film remains a fresh take on the "Lost Television" trope popularized by the online Creepy Pasta fandom. But before Late Night With The Devil terrified audiences, an online horror series paved the way in the analog horror genre. Gemini Home Entertainment is an ongoing YouTube analog horror series created by Remy Abode. Considered a seminal work in the analog horror genre, Gemini Home Entertainment conquers body horror, extraterrestrial threats, and the looming doom of an apocalypse. The series presents its initial tapes in a playlist entitled Full Boxset, with a spin-off series called The Library. Told through an anthology of loosely related tapes,...

Quick Links "The Library" Kicked Off the Missing Appa Plotline Elements of "The Library" Already Appeared in Netflix's Avatar Skipping "The Library" Would Continue a Trend From Netflix's Avatar Netflix has renewed its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender for two more seasons. Moments from the first season of Netflix's Avatar indicated that the upcoming seasons may skip the events of "The Library" from the original series. The omission of "The Library" would flatten Aang's character arc.

Appa's capture storyline from season 2 should be cut from Netflix's live-action Avatar to improve pacing and focus on key plots. Adaptation requires trimming unnecessary storylines, like Appa's capture, to make room for character development in the live-action series. With changes already made in season 1, including Appa's capture in season 2 would be an unnecessary and distracting plotline.
Avatar: The Last Airbender's live-action adaptation on Netflix has already cut some notable storylines — and there's one plot that definitely needs to be removed from the upcoming second season of the live-action show. As with any adaption, Avatar: The Last Airbender included plenty of tweaks and changes to the original animated show. This was especially true for Netflix's take on many of Avatar: The Last Airbender's characters, which went through some serious reinvention even while staying true to the core of their original incarnations.

Netflix’s live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender hasn’t found favor with fans across the world. While there were a lot of questions raised regarding the toning down of Sokka’s sexist attitude which was integral to the narrative, a bigger problem arose with the depiction of the central protagonist Aang and his transition to the Avatar State. The series took a huge risk by making one significant change that affected the core elements of the character’s journey.

Larry Charles’ résumé is all over the place. As a writer, he penned some of Seinfeld’s most memorable episodes (see: “The Library”). As a TV director, he skewered his industry with Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage. As a filmmaker, he embraced mockumentary with Borat and Brüno. But his latest entry, by his own admission, might be his most unhinged to date. He just released Dicks: The Musical, a hard-r spoof of The Parent Trap featuring telepathic sewer creatures, a disembodied CGI vagina and Megan Thee Stallion walking men on leashes like dogs. “I don’t have a legacy or body of work or anything like that, so I don’t think about stuff like that,” the Dicks director explained on the eve of its Oct. 6 theatrical launch. “I never know what I’m doing next.”

Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" begins with two on-screen titles showing the definitions between fission and fusion. For the layman or average moviegoer, the definitions serve as an explanation about the differences between two ways of achieving nuclear power. They also layout the ways in which the entire film is going to be structured, split in two by color and black-and-white sequences that divide Nolan's epic biography into Oppenheimer's subjective point-of-view and the objective forces swirling around him. The sequences in color paint Oppenheimer as somewhat of a heroic figure that helped this nation win World War II with the creation of the atomic bomb; the black-and-white sections show the famed scientist as a victim of government bureaucracy bullied by a system that no longer needs him.

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" ended 15 years ago with "Sozin's Comet," bringing to a close an epic cartoon of unprecedented proportions, a show that still stands the test of time as one of the best stories told in television, regardless of medium and genre — and to think the show was technically not picked up after season 2.
The story of Aang, a young boy and the last surviving member of his nation who is tasked with ending a 100-year-old war before the whole world gets conquered by a genocidal megalomaniac, was like nothing else on TV. This was a cartoon aimed at young audiences that nevertheless touched on themes of grief and change, but also genocide, imperialism, and the effect of war on children. Add in a fleshed-out world, mythology on par with "Lord of the Rings," and some of the best action in a Western animated series and you get a...

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken brings a new kind of monster into the DreamWorks universe. The unique spin on popular mythology portrays krakens as anything but the hungry ship-eaters they are understood to be, with the titular Ruby Gillman and her family simply doing their best to live some semblance of a normal life on land. The film joyfully subverts expectations and, in true DreamWorks fashion, boasts enough heart and humor to be enjoyable for the whole family.
The film aims to blend sweeping mythological concepts with the reality of being a teenager, and smoothly accomplishes its goal with the help of music by Grammy-winning composer Stephanie Economou. Economou is known for work on a range of projects including Jupiter’s Legacy and Manhunt, but thanks to a long history of collaboration with composer Harry Gregson-Williams has also worked on beloved films like The Martian and the live-action Mulan.
