Now Deadline reports that Kitamura has signed on to direct the rollercoaster thriller Thrill Ride.
Scripted by Chad Law and Christopher Jolley, Thrill Ride will show us what happens when a group of people, including two young women, who are trapped upside down on a roller coaster taken over by a mysterious saboteur threatening to drop them all one-by-one to their deaths.

Stars: Camille Rowe, Jeremy Scippio, Stasa Stanic | Written by Franck Khalfoun, Glen Freyer | Directed by Franck Khalfoun
Night of the Hunted, the latest film from Franck Khalfoun is a remake, but not of Jean Rollin’s 1980 paranoid thriller of the same name, though that would be a logical choice for rebooting in these conspiracy-riddled times. Instead, he and co-writer Glen Freyer have reworked and updated Rubén Ávila Calvo and David R.L.’s 2015 Spanish thriller Night of the Rat.
This film begins in a hotel room where Alice is talking to her husband on the phone, we hear something about an appointment with a fertility specialist before she hurriedly hangs up as John enters the room. Driving back to town in the pre-dawn darkness they make a stop for gas despite Jiohn’s insistence that he filled the tank the day before. Alice goes in to grab some snacks, and as...

"You should walk away now and if you don't? I will take you to hell." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an action movie titled The Doorman, set in New York City. This is the latest feature form Japanese filmmaker Ryûhei Kitamura and it's debuting on VOD this October. Ruby Rose stars in this as a soldier who returns from combat and befriends a family in New York. When a group of thieves, lead by Jean Reno, breaks into their expensive home, she takes the lead and fights back. As Erik Davis pointed out: "this feels like Ruby Rose's Die Hard." The cast includes Louis Mandylor, Rupert Evans, Aksel Hennie, and David Sakurai. If this was really as good as Die Hard, I think we'd have heard more about it by now. ...

I enjoy a good horror anthology series and we’ve got a trailer for a new one coming called Nightmare Cinema, which looks like it will be filled with a lot of creepy fun! This is something that I know I’ll enjoy watching!
The five segments featured in Nightmare Cinema were directed by Mick Garris, Joe Dante, David Slade (30 Days of Night), Ryuhei Kitamura and Alejandro Brugues (Juan of the Dead).
Here’s the synopsis that was shared for it:
A series of down-on-their-luck individuals enter the decrepit and spine-chilling Rialto theater, only to have their deepest and darkest fears brought to life on the silver screen by The Projectionist – a mysterious, ghostly figure who holds the nightmarish futures of all who attend his screenings. By the time our patrons realize the truth, escape is no longer an option. For once the ticket is torn, their fate is sealed at Nightmare Cinema.

Open 24 Hours is your third time being represented at Frightfest Why is it important you show your movies at the UK’s premier festival?
FrightFest is the best horror festival in the world. It has the best fans and the best organisers a genre director could hope for. There is so much love and care that goes into the festival and I’m honored every time I get to be a part of it. I’m just happy that they let me keep coming back and showing my films. Everyone involved has become like a family to me and I really can’t thank them enough for helping me with my career and showing my films.

"Hell is on the way." Shudder has released an official trailer for a dark horror, thriller titled Downrange, the latest feature from Japanese genre filmmaker Ryuhei Kitamura. The film is about a group of friends who end up the target of a distant, vicious, hidden sniper after they pop a tire driving cross country. The film's cast includes Kelly Connaire, Stephanie Pearson, Rod Hernandez-Farella, Anthony Kirlew, Alexa Yeames, and Jason Tobias. This is basically a terrifying sniper survival movie on a dusty country road with no one around. The shot of the sniper in this trailer is very slick, and the way it builds is intense. Looks like a helluva scary sniper film. Here's the new official Us trailer (+ posters) for Ryuhei Kitamura's Downrange, direct from YouTube: Six college students are carpooling cross-country when one of their tires blows out on a desolate stretch of country road. As I’m writing this review, news has just broken of another mass shooting, this time in Texas. It’s another in what has become a regular occurrence in America: random shootings, casualties, the nation mourns, then we move on until the next incident, which, tragically, is never far off. These frequent acts of terrorism have us all on edge, all living in fear, never sure where random violence will break out or where we can be safe.
This can make it difficult to watch and talk about Downrange, the latest thriller from director Ryûhei Kitamura (Versus, The Midnight Meat Train), because it deals directly with acts of random violence like those we hear about every other week. But just as it can be designed as fun, escapist entertainment, the function of horror is also to touch a nerve, to speak to our fears, to reflect that which we dread...

Living in Chicago, I spend much of my year being jealous of all the people I see online going to the various genre film festivals held around the parts of the country that aren’t here… until now.
For the first time ever, Chicago is getting its very own full-blown genre festival with Cinepocalypse, a week-long event running November 2nd–9th at the Music Box Theatre, the best place to see a movie in the entire city. Formerly the Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival (which I have attended since it began and always completely loved), Cinepocalypse now has a new venue, a larger and more ambitious slate of programming, and dozens of special guests. It’s going to be bigger and better than any festival of its kind the city has ever seen, and I can’t wait to be there as much as possible to see as many cool movies as possible.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the film's publicity arm. Director: Ryûhei Kitamura. Writers: Ryûhei Kitamura, Joey O'Bryan. Cast: Kelly Connaire, Stephanie Pearson and Rod Hernandez. Japanese director Ryûhei Kitamura is known to this film fan for his work on The Midnight Meat Train (2008) and No One Lives (2012). Both of these earlier horror films are dark, gory spectacles. Kitamura continues his trend, to bring bloody scenarios to the screen, with Downrange. Six college students are trapped along the side of the road as a sniper takes aim at them. They are one bullet away from becoming roadkill. The film's plot is very bare bones; Downrange is more of a scenario, than a typical story. Downrange is also similar to other films, like Joel Schumacher's Phone Booth (2002) and Doug Liman's The Wall (2017). The focus is on the victim and their psychology as the villain remains anonymous.

A car slams on its breaks at the pop of a flat. Inside is Todd (Rod Hernandez) and Sara (Alexa Yeames), a young couple toting around a bunch of strangers who pitched in gas money to reach everyone’s shared destination. Putting on the spare this SUV is thankfully equipped with should only take around twenty minutes—or less thanks to a friendly bet for bragging rights. But that would be too simple. The heat gets to Jodi (Kelly Connaire) and Keren (Stephanie Pearson), Eric (Anthony Kirlew) is going to the bathroom off the road, and Todd and Sara sit to rest. So the hard work is left to Jeff (Jason Tobias), a good-natured gent who doesn’t seem to mind until hearing the clink of a fallen rifle slug.

I figure we are now in the countdown stages as the Toronto International Film Festival approaches at the beginning of September. One of the films in this year's Midnight Madness lineup is Ryuhei Kitamura's Downrange. Three new stills from the production have surfaced and you will find larger version in the gallery below. The first two are character shots. The third is of characters, shot, an indication of the carnage that awaits us on premiere night. Hot on the heels of today's Midnight Madness lineup announcement comes the trailer for Ryuhei Kitamura's Downrange. The flick will mark the fourth appearance the Japanese director will make at the Toronto International Film Festival since his international breakout hit Versus back in 2001. We will let you have a look for yourselves but give fair warning that it looks to carry on with Kitamura's penchant for extreme violence. Just watch where a car lands at the end. You will see what we mean. Have fun. Kitamura Ryuhei cemented his place in the genre hall of fame with Versus back at the turn of the century. Since then he's found himself in and out of favor with fans as he made the likes of Aragami, Agumi, Godzilla: Final Wars, The Midnight Meat Train (my personal high of that year), and others. Soon he'll be returning to delight his fans with Downrange. Scripted by Joey O'Bryan (Fulltime Killer, Motorway, and more, and a personal friend, too), the film is based on a story by O'Bryan and Kitamura. Per the official statement: "In the film, six college students are carpooling cross-country when one of their tires blows out on a desolate stretch of country road. Getting out to fix the flat, they quickly...
