Croatian director Čejen Černić Čanak’s Sandbag Dam has sold to key territories following its world premiere this month in the Berlinale’s Generation 14plus competition for Italy’s Open Reel.
Dark Star Pictures has acquired rights for North American, while Salzgeber has bought the film for Germany and Austria, and Tongariro Releasing for Cee counties excluding Former Yugoslavia and the Baltic.
Lav Novosel and Andrija Žunac star in the story about a forbidden love set in flood-threatened village. It centres on a young man whose life is turned upside down when a friend returns for his father’s funeral and rekindles their forbidden romance.

French distributor Optimale has purchased all rights for French-speaking territories for US productions Barrio Boy and for The Last Summer Of Nathan Lee from Italian sales outfit The Open Reel.
In Barrio Boy, Dennis Shinners follows a barber living in a rapidly changing Brooklyn neighbourhood who embarks on an erotically charged odyssey of self-discovery over one hot summer, while in The Last Summer Of Nathan Lee director Quentin Lee dissects the friendship between two teenage boys when one is diagnosed with brain cancer.

Italian sales agent The Open Reel has scored North American deals for three titles on its slate: Swsx-prize winner A Place Of Our Own, Julián Hernández’s The Trace Of Your Lips and Dennis Shinners’s Barrio Boy.
Indian drama A Place Of Our Own by grassroots group Ektara Collective has been acquired by Dark Star Pictures for North America. Set in Bhopal, the drama follows two trans women as they seek to find alternative accommodation when their landlord evicts them without notice. It won the global audience award at Swsx in March.
