Ariel Winter is part of a birthday celebration gone wrong in the trailer for screen-life thriller movie Don’t Log Off.

The feature from writer-director brothers Brandon Baer and Garrett Baer hits select theaters July 11 ahead of its VOD release July 15. Brielle Barbusca (Scandal), Luke Benward (Criminal Minds), Sterling Beaumon (Law & Order True Crime), Jack Griffo (The Thundermans Return), Kara Royster (Pretty Little Liars), Ashley Argota (All American) and Khylin Rhambo (47 Meters Down: Uncaged) also star in the film that landed distribution from Epic Pictures’ horror banner Dread.

The Montréal, Canada native is known for his work as showrunner of Law & Order, which he ran for eight years of its initial 20-year run. During his tenure, L&o won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, secured a five-season network pickup; and tied Gunsmoke for longest-running series.

Balcer went on to create and showrun the spinoff Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which ran for ten seasons, as well as limited series Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, which earned Edie Falco a Best Actress Emmy nomination, and CBS’ procedural FBI: Most Wanted.

The third and final season of “Bosch: Legacy,” featuring 10 all-new episodes of the hit series, is set to release Thursday, March 27 on Prime Video, and will see ‘The Young and the Restless” alum Miles Gaston Villanueva (ex-Luca Santori) joining the cast as Det. Perry Lopez.

According to a description released by Variety, the character is a native Angeleno with a background in working gang murders in South Los Angeles. Recently elevated to the LAPD’s elite Robbery Homicide Division (Rhd), and eager to make a name for himself, Lopez is partnered with the seasoned Det. Jimmy Robertson (Paul Calderon) as they are tasked to investigate Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) in a possible murder-for-hire case.

From September 16, 2015-September 9, 2016, Villanueva portrayed Luca Santori on “The Young and the Restless,” the estranged husband of Marisa Sierras (Sofia Pernas). The character was described as a charming and mysterious Spanish prince from a wealthy family.

It’s a single-shot conversation between Erik Menendez (Cooper Koch) and his attorney Leslie Abramson (Ari Graynor). The camera begins several feet behind Abramson and inches imperceptibly closer to Erik as he recalls his history of sexual abuse at the hands of his tyrannical father, José (Javier Bardem).

It’s a stunt, but the entire show is a stunt, so why quibble? The writing is precise, uncomfortably explicit and haunting. The formal simplicity serves its purpose, building breathless tension and putting a spotlight on Koch, who strips himself emotionally bare. Although Edie Falco’s Emmy Awards history began with a successful Best Drama Actress bid for “The Sopranos” in 1999, she has since racked up more comedy nominations than drama ones. After receiving a comedy guest notice for “30 Rock” in 2008, she earned half a dozen lead ones for “Nurse Jackie” between 2010 and 2015, the first of which led to a win. Now, as a Best Comedy Supporting Actress contender for Peacock’s “Bupkis,” she could become the eighth entrant on the list of women who have earned recognition in every possible comedy Emmy category.

After “Nurse Jackie,” “Bupkis” is only the second comedy series on which Falco has played a regular role. Her character, Amy Davidson, is a fictionalized version of series star Pete Davidson’s own mother, who raised him and his younger sister as a single parent after her husband died during the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.

Just as limited and anthology series based on real events have taken over the TV landscape, they have taken over the Emmys. But how well have programs of this particular genre actually gone over with the academy throughout the past few years?

Let’s take a look back at all nominations earned by limited and anthology series starting in 2015; that’s the year in which the rules were tweaked to require that a program can only compete as a limited series if it has a minimum of two episodes with a total running time of at least 150 minutes, tells a complete, non-recurring story, and doesn’t have an ongoing storyline and/or main characters in subsequent seasons.

This rule change came just a year after limited series (referred to as “miniseries” at the time) and TV movies were once again split up into separate program categories, undoing a three-year-old change that consolidated the two awards.

Tubi released the official trailer for original movie “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial,” a fictionalized retelling of this summer’s closely followed defamation trial involving actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

The ripped-from-the-headlines film is set to premiere Friday, Sept. 30, on the free, ad-supported Tubi service. “Hot Take” stars Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis (“Alone in the Dark”) as Heard.

Judging from the trailer, “Hot Take” aims to evenly present both sides of the controversial story of the formerly married couple. “This is not life — no one should have to go through this,” Hapka’s Depp, featuring slicked-back hair tied off in a ponytail, says in court. At another point, Davis’s Heard says, “I have the right to say what happened to me.”

The trailer also references the TikTok trend that emerged during the trial in which users mocked Heard’s emotional testimony on the stand.

The controversial defamation case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is the subject of a new movie, “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial,” set to debut exclusively on the free Tubi streaming service.

The film stars Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis (“Alone in the Dark”) as Heard. It’s set to premiere Friday, Sept. 30, on Fox’s Tubi. Melissa Marty (“Station 19”) will join Hapka and Davis as Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez and Mary Carrig (“Law & Order True Crime”) will portray as Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft.

“Hot Take” follows the tumultuous relationship — in and out of court — of Depp and Heard, dramatizing the two-month defamation trial that concluded June 1, with the jury finding that Heard had defamed Depp by alluding to domestic violence allegations against him in a December 2018 op-ed piece. The jury also held Depp liable for a defamatory statement made about Heard by his lawyer.

Edie Falco has been cast opposite Pete Davidson in the upcoming Peacock comedy series “Bupkis,” Variety has learned.

The announcement was made during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation on Monday. “Bupkis” was picked up straight-to-series at Peacock back in April. The show is described as a heightened, fictionalized version of Davidson’s real life. Per Peacock, it will combine grounded storytelling with absurd elements from the worldview for which Davidson is well known. Falco will star as Davidson’s mother.

If broadcast network TV is supposed to be dead, no one told Dick Wolf. The procedural maven’s eight shows across NBC and CBS are proving to be a viewership powerhouse for the two networks as the new TV season gets underway, cementing Wolf’s expanding dominance in primetime.

It’s also perhaps why NBC felt the time was finally right to revive the “Law & Order” mothership, a show that Wolf has been eager to bring back from the moment it ended its initial run in 2010. As NBC announced last week, the return of the Emmy-winning drama — which initially aired for 20 seasons and 456 episodes — has been officially ordered, with showrunner Rick Eid at the helm.

The original “Law & Order” will return to NBC with new episodes for Season 21, nearly a dozen years after the series signed off after a 20-year run.

Rick Eid will serve as showrunner of the new iteration of the series from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. “Law & Order” creator Dick Wolf has worked for years to get the mothership series back with new episodes in primetime.

“There are very few things in life that are literally dreams come true,” said Wolf. “This is mine.”

There’s no word yet from NBC on casting or a premiere date. The original series had a revolving ensemble over the years that helped keep the show energized as actors would naturally move in and out of roles in law enforcement and criminal justice.

Netflix astronaut series Away will star Hilary Swank as the commander of an international space crew, sent on a dangerous mission.

Away, a developing Netflix series, will head to space for a monumental mission with a commander played by two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and television veteran Josh Charles.

Set as a 10-episode series, Away will be driven by showrunner Jessica Goldberg, who’s known as the creator of Hulu’s subversive 2016-2018 drama, The Path, and wrote the script to directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2020-scheduled, Tom Holland-headlined drama, Cherry. The series is said to be loosely inspired by an article published in Esquire about the real-life mission of astronaut Scott Kelly.

The official logline for Away describes a show that “centers on Emma Green [played by Swank], an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous mission.

The Edie Falco-led drama “Tommy” has been ordered to series at CBS for the 2019-2020 season.

Falco stars as a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female Chief of Police for Los Angeles. She uses her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to navigate the social, political, and national security issues that converge with enforcing the law.

In addition to Falco, the series will also star Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, David Fierro, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, and Joseph Lyle Taylor. Paul Attanasio, the creator of the current CBS series “Bull,” is the writer and executive producer on “Tommy.” Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin Television will also executive produce. Kate Dennis directed and executive produced the pilot. CBS Television Studios will produce.

Sources say that CBS was very high on getting Falco on the network, making this project a priority for them once Falco signed on to star.

James DuMont and his son Kelton have been cast as recurring characters in Danny McBride’s upcoming comedy series “The Righteous Gemstones” on HBO, TheWrap has learned exclusively.

Though the real-life father-son duo won’t appear as such onscreen, they previously played father and son together on HBO’s 2018 TV movie “Mosaic.”

James DuMont will play Chad, “Jesse Gemstone’s (McBride) right hand man and crony, who was a former sinner before changing his ways for the Lord. Chad is Jesse’s muscle. Although ‘saved,’ Chad will compromise his new-found purity to help Jesse with his dirty work,” per HBO’s description.

Kelton will play Pontius Gemstone, the middle son to Jesse Gemstone (McBride) and grandson to Eli Gemstone (John Goodman).

ABC has given the Heather Graham-led drama “The Hypnotist’s Love Story” a formal pilot order, Variety has learned.

Graham will star in and executive produce the project. In the show, after a string of failed romances, successful hypnotherapist Ellen is optimistic about her current boyfriend. But then he reveals a disturbing truth: a stalker ex-girlfriend (Graham) has been following him for years. Ellen finds herself intrigued – and oddly thrilled by the stalker, entirely unaware that they’ve already met. ABC gave the project a put pilot commitment back in October.

The project is an adaptation of the Liane Moriarty book of the same name, with Moriarty attached as a producer. Katie Wech will serve as writer and executive producer. Along with Graham, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, and Laurie Zaks of Mandeville Television will also executive produce. ABC Studios will produce.

Zach Tinker has joined the cast of CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless in the role of Fenmore Baldwin, most recently played by Max Ehrich.

Tinker's credits include Law & Order True Crime, NCIS, Murder in the First, Turnt and You're the Worst.

Tinker is scheduled to make his first Y&R appearance on Monday, December 3, when Fen returns to Genoa City with a few surprises for his parents.

Miles Gaston Villanueva (Law & Order True Crime) is set for a major recurring role on Fox’s medical drama The Resident.

Villanueva will play Alec, a born innovator, a loner and iconoclast who has spent a lifetime on the move. His father was an eccentric and Alec lived part of his childhood in a converted school bus. He studied to be an infectious disease doctor, but after a stint volunteering with Partners in Health on a Navajo reservation, he embraced a vision of medicine that tries to alter lifestyle via community outreach to prevent, rather than treat, illness. Alec is tender with patients but blunt with everyone else. And yet he is a charmer. His relationships with women tended in the past to lack deep roots. Whenever it was necessary, he moved on.

“Really?” said a breathless and clearly shocked Regina King after taking the stage to accept her Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Netflix’s Seven Seconds. “Omg, Say word?! Oh, my god. Okay, so I dropped lipstick on my dress and I was down there trying to get it out,” said King.

She went on to thank her friends, peers, Netflix. “This is amazing, I want to curse…and “Thank you Jesus.”

King was honored tonight for her portrayal of Latrice Butler, a Jersey City mother whose son is killed by the police, in Veena Sud’s Netflix drama Seven Seconds.

This was King’s fourth Emmy nomination and third win, her first for lead actress, following supporting actress wins for American Crime in 2015 and 2016.

NBC has ordered a new “Law & Order” series from Dick Wolf, the network announced Tuesday.

The series is titled “Law & Order: Hate Crimes” and has received a 13 episode commitment. Co-created with former “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” showrunner Warren Leight, the latest installment of the iconic TV franchise is based on New York’s actual Hate Crimes Task Force, the second oldest bias-based task force in the U.S. The unit, which pledges to uphold a zero tolerance policy against discrimination of any kind, works under the NYPD’s real Special Victims Unit and often borrows Svu’s detectives to assist in their investigations. The first incarnation of this new unit will be introduced in the latter part of the upcoming 20th season of “Svu.”

“Law & Order: Hate Crimes” is set in New York City, where crimes motivated by discrimination are vigorously investigated by an elite, specially trained team of investigators.

Paul Wesley’s Vampire Diaries follow-up finally has a premiere date — and it’s fittingly frightful.

CBS All Access has announced that Tell Me a Story, its psychological thriller which reunites Wesley with Vampire Diaries Ep Kevin Williamson, will launch on Wednesday, Oct. 31 aka Halloween. Season 1’s 10 episodes will be released weekly.

Just how much do the Emmys love Edie Falco? She’s currently the only actress to win lead trophies for a comedy series (“Nurse Jackie” in 2010) and a drama series, and now she hopes to add to her record with a victory for a limited series. On Thursday Falco received a Best Movie/Mini Actress Emmy nomination for her work on the limited series “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders.” If she wins, that would make Falco the eighth performer from the “Law & Order” franchise to win an Emmy.

So who are the other seven? “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Mariska Hargitay is the only performer to prevail at the televised Primetime Emmys, winning Best Drama Actress in 2006. The other six winners all took home their trophies at the Creative Arts in the Best Drama Guest Actress category.

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today two different programs geared toward increasing the number of women cinematographers working in Hollywood. Sponsored by 21st Century Fox, the programs will be tuition-free and are geared toward women directors of photography at two very different stages of their careers.

The first program, the AFI Cinematography Introductory Intensive for Women (Ciiw), will take place on August 3-6, at the AFI campus and is for women interested in careers as cinematographers. The four-day class consists of workshops, discussions and screenings designed to encourage participants to continue down the path, via studies and practical experience, to becoming a cinematographer. The intensive crash course is being taught by a mix of AFI faculty and “master-level guests.”

Submissions open today, June 4, and the deadline to apply is June 15.

“Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders” banged its final gavel last night. The verdict? NBC is guilty of another Tuesday win in the key 18-49 demographic.

Of course, that top spot is mostly thanks to “The Voice” and “This Is Us,” but the Dick Wolf limited series was competitive at 10 p.m.

In terms of total viewers, however, the evening marked another easy win for CBS. “NCIS,” “Bull” and “NCIS: New Orleans” gave the network an average of more than 11 million overall audience members across the three-hour day part.

Harry Hamlin is coming to NBC. Deadline reports the Mad Men star has joined  Law & Order: True Crime.

From executive producer Dick Wolf, season one of the anthology drama will follow the events surrounding the trial of Erik and Lyle Menendez, two brothers who were convicted of murdering their parents in 1989. The cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Anthony Edwards, Edie Falco, Gus Halper, and Miles Gaston Villanueva.

Leslie Abramson, the spitfire Los Angeles defense attorney who represented one of Erik Menendez in two sensational murder trials, says she will not watch Edie Falco portray her on NBC’s “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders.”

“Oh boy,” Abramson told TheWrap when asked about true-crime TV movie. “I have nothing to say. Absolutely nothing. Goodbye.”

Before she hung up, she was asked “Are you going to watch it?” “No,” she said.

NBC and Dick Wolf Productions are betting big on Falco’s performance.

Dick Wolf is bullish on his Law & Order franchise moving into the True Crime arena. He already has a list of cases he wants to probe and would “run down the street naked” to get viewers to watch the first episode of his first at-bat, about the Menendez murders.

“This is unique for me, after 27 years of Law & Order,” Wolf told TV critics at TCA today. “This is taken from the headlines; we‘ve made some great shows ripped from the headlines, but this is on a different level.”

Miles Gaston Villanueva has been cast as Lyle Menendez in this fall’s “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders.”

Villanueva has guest-starred on various TV shows, including “Chasing Life,” “Jane the Virgin” and “Rosewood.” He recently co-starred opposite Al Pacino and Judith Light in the new play “God Looked Away,” which had its first full production at the Pasadena Playhouse last winter.

Villanueva is repped by Scott Zimmerman and Sdb Parters.

As previously announced, Gus Halper will play Erik Menendez and Edie Falco will star as defense attorney.
