"Avatar: The Last Airbender" premiered on Nickelodeon 20 years ago, with the two-part opener airing on February 21, 2005, and the third episode following just four days later on February 25. I was in the second grade at the time, and I learned about the show on the playground. Instead of pantomiming lightsaber battles or whatever passed for football in the second grade, my two best friends told me that they wanted to play "Avatar: The Last Airbender." I didn't watch Nickelodeon, being more of a Saturday morning 4Kids loyalist myself, but you can't admit something like that at recess, so I played along and tried to pick up the "rules" of hurling pretend wind and fire at each other.
That summer, I caught a rerun of "Avatar" Season 1, Episode 6, "Imprisoned," while flipping channels on vacation. By the time the show came back from its mid-Season 1 break in September, I was already hooked, having...

Not every original episode will make it to Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation due to merging storylines and omitting filler. Season 1 episodes like "Imprisoned" and "The Waterbending Scroll" have already been skipped, creating fan dismay but streamlining the storyline. Vital elements of original episodes from seasons 2 and 3, like those in "The Avatar State," "The Chase," and "The Headband" to name a few will be adapted while non-essential parts are more likely to be omitted.
Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender will return for seasons 2 and 3, leading many to question which episodes from the original show will be skipped in the adaptation. Avatar: The Last Airbender's Netflix renewal came as a surprise to many in that two more seasons were ordered instead of the expected one, proving that the entire original show will be adapted to live-action. Netflix's remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender skips only seven episodes from the original animated series, focusing on loyalty to the source material. Some episodes were cut from the live-action adaptation to create a more streamlined story and focus on critical character moments. Although certain fan-favorite episodes were omitted, Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1 remains faithful and successful.
Netflix's live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1 demonstrates an impressive level of loyalty to the source material, but there are seven episodes from the first season of the animated show that it skips. The Last Airbender was originally an animated series that began on Nickelodeon in 2005, quickly gaining widespread popularity. Netflix's remake has enjoyed similar success, leading to the confirmation of Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2.

Lending some bigger movie heft to the Malaga market, Latido Films is bringing onto the international sales scene two thrillers – though very different propositions – from Academy Award winning producer Tornasol Media (“The Secret in Their Eyes”).
“Thrillers have high export potential, but they’re a highly competitive market and since Spanish movies can’t compete with U.S. films’ star power, they have to offer something else,” said Latido Films head Antonio Saura.
Both in production, what Imanol Uribe’s “La Mirada de Lucía” and Oscar Aibar’s “El sustituto” offer is high quality entertainment grounded in different but powerful social realities.
The directors go about addressing that reality in highly different ways, however.
Winner of San Sebastian’s Golden Shell with “Running Out of Time” and “Bwana,” a feat only achieved by five other directors, the first Francis Ford Coppola, Imanol Uribe’s “La mirada de Lucía,” written by...

“The Lighthouse” (Lionsgate) is the kind of movie that yields new discoveries with every viewing, so why not make this new Blu-ray part of your permanent collection? Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson star as keepers of the titular structure, driving themselves and each other insane in a desolate and solitary location. Jarin Blaschke’s Oscar-nominated cinematography adds layers of grotesque delight to writer-director Robert Eggers’ fascinating follow-up to “The Witch.”
Also available: Inspirational sports tale “Sprinter” (FilmRise) features a cameo by Olympic medalist Usain Bolt; Jess Wexler and Adam Pearson play star-crossed co-stars in the uniquely offbeat “Chained for Life” (Kino Lorber); the Helen Hunt thriller “I See You” (Saban/Paramount) premiered at South by Southwest; Tim Heidecker runs for public office in the unsettling mockumentary “Mister America” (Magnolia Home Entertainment).
