‘Snow White’ Holds No. 1 as Mohanlal’s ‘L2: Empuraan’ and Jason Statham’s ‘A Working Man’ Make Strong Debuts at U.K. and Ireland Box Office

Disney’s “Snow White” retained the top spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office for a second week, bringing in £2 million ($2.6 million) and pushing its total to £6.7 million ($8.7 million), according to Comscore.

Leading the newcomers was “L2: Empuraan,” the Malayalam-language action film distributed by Rft Films Ltd. The film, a sequel to 2019’s “Lucifer,” opened with $1.5 million, securing second place and marking one of the strongest regional Indian film debuts in the U.K. in recent years. Starring Mohanlal and from actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film is the second part in a planned trilogy.

Warner Bros.’ “A Working Man,” starring Jason Statham, debuted at No. 3 with $850,180.

Universal’s “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy” slipped to fourth but continued its phenomenal run, adding $726,295 in its seventh weekend. The film has now grossed $58.9 million, making it the highest-grossing U.K. release of the year.

Prithviraj’s ‘Aadujeevitham’ to commence filming next year
MollywoodDirected by Blessy, ‘Aadujeevitham’ is based on Benyamin’s novel by the same name. Digital Native prithviraj_DN.jpgIt was revealed quite some time ago that Malayalam director Blessy intends to make a film based on Benyamin’s novel Aadujeevitham and that Prithviraj would be playing the lead role in it. To get into character, Prithviraj has reportedly stated that he will be putting on weight for the role, as instructed by the director. The first schedule of Aadujeevitham will begin in February next year and the shooting will go on for some weeks. While the team breaks after the filming of the first schedule, Prithviraj will move on to his next project Lucifer, which will be his first directorial venture. He will then move back to the sets of Aadujeevitham, after one schedule of Lucifer. According to reports, he will be sporting two different looks in the film. Blessy, noted for his works such as Kazcha, Thanmathra, and Pranayam is busy with the groundwork of this film. He is also the recipient of several awards in his long career and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam for Thanmathra in 2005. He had won the Kerala State Film Awards for best director in 2011 for Pranayam, while Thanmathra won him best screenplay, best director and best film in 2005. Prior to this, Blessy also won the state film award for best film with popular appeal and aesthetic quality for Kaazhcha in 2004, which also won him the best debutant director award. On the other hand, Prithviraj is busy with the release of Vimaanam, which is getting ready for release on December 21. His other films in the pipeline are Detroit Crossing, My Story and the untitled Anjali Menon directorial which are in various stages of production. Discussions on for Prithviraj-Mohanlal film 'Lucifer'
Right from the time reports about the Prithviraj – Mohanlal project surfaced last year, fans have been waiting eagerly for more information on it. Lucifer was announced in September last year and it marks the directorial debut of Prithviraj. Mohanlal plays the lead role in the film, which will be scripted by Murali Gopy. Anthony Perumbavoor is bankrolling it under his banner Aashirvad Cinemas.
