The Fast & Furiousfranchise is an epic, action-filled journey of more than ten films chronicling the adventures of former street racer Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his found family. The series has taken many different forms over the years, from a simple street racing saga to a high-stakes spy thriller. But, for movie fans who haven't hopped aboard the Fast & Furious train yet, the expansive franchise could be a bit intimidating.

For prospective fans of the Fast Saga, jumping in on the films isn't as simple as watching them in release order. Despite the franchise's relatively linear timeline, certain films are out of order. When "Den of Thieves" arrived in 2018, many described it as a kind of low-rent, dirtbag version of Michael Mann's "Heat." I, too, have said more or less the same thing about the film — but I say so lovingly. I'm a big fan of "Den of Thieves," a movie about big men firing big guns and featuring Gerard Butler as Big Nick O'Brien, a cop who always seems to be hungover no matter what time of day it is. Director Christian Gudegast's film was frequently derivative, and yet, it was also a total blast. I was excited when a sequel was announced all the way back in 2018, and now that the sequel, "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera," is here, I'm just as excited for what comes next.

The 2002 film, The Scorpion King, directed by Chuck Russell, depicts the journey of Mathayus as he attempts to overthrow the despotic warrior Memnon. The Scorpion King serves as a prequel to The Mummy Returns, and it helped explain the origin story of how Mathayus came to be the Scorpion King and the villain of the latter film. The impending return of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham to the Fast & Furious franchise only makes the absence of Hobbs & Shaw 2 seem more glaring. Johnson, who is also known by his wrestling moniker "The Rock," joined the franchise in 2011's Fast Five. Statham was hot on his heels, making a cameo in that movie's immediate sequel before joining the main cast as Deckard Shaw in 2015's Furious 7. In James Wan's "Furious 7," released in 2015, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) find themselves inside a supercar located many stories up in an Abu Dhabi skyscraper. They desperately need a chip that's embedded in the vehicle (don't ask), but things go south when the villains realize their plan. In order to escape, Dom does the only thing he knows how to do: he drives his way out of the situation, despite being indoors. After knocking over several of the baddies and evading many a gunshot, Dom realizes the only way the team can accomplish their mission is if he and Brian speed through the window and crash into a neighboring skyscraper. 

The scene is, of course, absolutely ridiculous, but Wan and his team give it a sense of majesty and wonder, and the result is one of the best stunts in "Fast and Furious" franchise history.

Creating a roller coaster worthy of a 10-film series whose titles revolve around the words “Fast” and “Furious” is no small task.

The folks at Universal Studios Hollywood seem to have taken the challenge seriously, introducing today “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” which they promise will include a “groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual ride vehicles as they rocket along an elaborate track.” The goal is to create a sensation of drifting cars as guests spin in motion at furiously fast speeds.

It’s the park’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster, and Universal pledges “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” will “elevate the guest experience with innovative and technological achievements never previously employed in a roller coaster.”
