“They have to be cultural events”: Sony CEO Realizes Why Madame Web Failed as Studio Makes Course Correction
Image
Sony delivered a trilogy of flops after veering off course with its Spider-Man Universe. Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter proved to the studio execs that every superhero project won’t work at the box office.

At the Bank of America Conference held on September 4, 2025, Sony’s CEO, Ravi Ahuja, claimed the real reason behind Ssmu failing [via The Wrap]:

There was a period of time where anything superhero was almost guaranteed to do well. I think [the bar] for superhero movies, it was relatively low. In the mid-2010s pretty much all of them would do incredible business, but now even superhero movies have to have a degree of originality.

They have to add something different.

"You Can't Make a Bad Movie": Sony CEO Acknowledges That The Bar Has Been Raised For Marvel Adaptations
Image
Despite agreeing to share Spider-Man with Marvel Studios after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 served as an abrupt end to that franchise, Sony Pictures decided to forge ahead with its own slate of Marvel movies.

It's hard to blame the studio, as the genre had become a guaranteed money-maker. That was apparent from Venom grossing $856 million in 2018 despite largely negative reviews. However, with Avi Arad calling the shots, Sony hasn't exactly delivered quality comic book adaptations.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Venom: The Last Dance were middling efforts in the eyes of many critics and fans, but the likes of Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter were outright disasters.

Madame Web: More Never-Before-Seen Photos See The Movie's Spider-Women Strike Comic Book Poses
Image
A box office flop and one of the worst-reviewed superhero movies of all time, Madame Web is destined to be long remembered...for all the wrong reasons. However, there's one thing Sony Pictures' Marvel Comics adaptation did get right.

We are, of course, talking about the costumes worn by Julia Cornwall (Sydney Sweeney), Anya Corazón (Isabela Merced), and Mattie Franklin (Celeste O'Connor).

More never-before-seen suit photos have been revealed today, featuring the trio suited up, both with and without their masks. There are some minor flaws—Julia's costume would have benefited from lenses over her eyes—but it's criminal that these didn't get more than a few seconds of screentime in Madame Web.

David Corenswet in SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY IS POWERFUL!! MOVIE REVIEW! (2024)
Superhero movies are hits again – but can DC and Marvel avoid the same mistakes?
David Corenswet in SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY IS POWERFUL!! MOVIE REVIEW! (2024)
After a string of flops, Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps showed signs of life in the superhero genre once again. But what’s next?

Maybe it’s true what they say about real life-or-death stakes not applying to superheroes. The past couple of years have looked pretty deadly for the once-ubiquitous American superhero movie, with just two such films placing on the list of 2024’s top-grossing movies in the US, and three in 2023. More than the lack of hits – Deadpool & Wolverine certainly made enough on its own to encourage another decade of team-ups – the genre has been threatened by a growing number of flops. Sequels to blockbusters like Joker and Aquaman nosedived from their predecessors. Would-be franchise starters like The Flash, Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter failed to spark any interest. Even a Marvel movie literally called The Marvels underperformed.

2025 seemed to follow this trend line,...

‘Superman’s Rachel Brosnahan Doesn’t Understand Why Some Actors “Pooh-Pooh” Their Superhero Movies
Image
As Rachel Brosnahan makes her Dcu debut as Lois Lane in Superman, she’s prepared to stand by her franchise.

The 2x Golden Globe winner recently took aim at fellow actors who “complain about” their superhero movies after receiving negative reviews, ahead of the July 11 premiere of the James Gunn flick.

After Amanda Seyfried explained in their Interview Magazine conversation that “you can feel it when people are doing it with passion and grace and curiosity,” Brosnahan said, ‘I don’t know why people say, ‘Yes’ only to then turn around and complain about it.”

“Look, I don’t want to s— on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them,” added Brosnahan. “Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”

Although Brosnahan didn’t name names,...

“It’s not yours”: Henry Cavill’s Co-Star Isn’t Disappointed With His Latest Bomb That Reportedly Needed Half a Billion Dollars To be Profitable
Image
First things first, Henry Cavill can do no wrong. But even he couldn’t rescue Argylle, the flashy 2024 spy comedy that somehow spent $200 million and still managed to crash and burn at the box office. Starring Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard, the movie barely made $96 million worldwide, not even close to breaking even.

And Howard kind of saw it coming. She recently talked about how she can usually feel when a movie’s going to flop, and Argylle gave off those vibes pretty early. But unlike her dad, director Ron Howard, who takes box office losses to heart, she’s learned to roll with the punches.

Bryce Dallas Howard knew Argylle was going to flop, and she’s cool with it!

Bryce Dallas Howard isn’t bitter about Argylle’s failure, if anything, she’s refreshingly honest. In an interview with The Independent, she explained that actors often sense when a film won’t connect.

The Surprise Invitation Dakota Johnson Got After Winning a Razzie Award for Madame Web
Image
As the star of Madame Web, Dakota Johnson endured some heavy criticism leveled against the doomed Sony movie upon release last year. Her role in the movie even resulted in Johnson being given a "Razzie," a parody award bestowed upon the "worst" movies and performances each year.

Recently, Johnson appeared as a guest for the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast. The subject of Madame Web's rough reviews came up, and Johnson shared how, after she was declared a Razzie winner, she was contacted by Sandra Bullock for support. For her part, Bullock was already part of the "Razzie Club" after getting one for Worst Actress in 2010 for her role in the panned romantic comedy All About Steve. It seemingly softened the blow of getting a Razzie for Johnson, who was stoked to hear from such an "iconic" movie star during that rough patch.

"Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note,...

'It Wasn't My Fault': Dakota Johnson Shifts the Blame for Madame Web Flopping
Image
Dakota Johnson’s 2024 flop Madame Webmay haunt her for the rest of her life, but she’s not taking all the blame for the movie’s dreadful box office and critical performance. Earning just $43.8 million domestically and a total of $100.4 million worldwide, Madame Web barely managed to recoup its reported $80 million budget. In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Johnson said it wasn’t on her that the movie failed so badly.

“It wasn’t my fault,”Johnson began. “There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way,” she continued.

Johnson starred as Cassandra Webb in Madame Web. The film was critically panned and has a “Rotten” score of...

Dakota Johnson slings the blame over Madame Web, says it wasn’t her fault it flopped
Dakota Johnson, Tahar Rahim, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor in Madame Web (2024)
When failure being an orphan meets spiders having 100 babies, you get Madame Web. When the movie was released last year as part of Sony’s consistently terrible Spider-Man Universe, it was a complete flop, taking in just $15 million of its $100 million budget, a number it would never recoup. And while fingers could be pointed everywhere (and they have been), it’s always interesting to see the stars lay their own backlash in a movie they devoted months to. Leading that yet again is Dakota Johnson, who has been one of the most vocal about Madame Web failing to find its audience.

Dakota Johnson recently spoke to the Los Angeles Times, where Madame Web – which may haunt her for the rest of her career – was brought up. To start off, she wanted to make one thing very clear: “It wasn’t my fault.” She added, “There’s this thing that happens...

"It Wasn't My Fault": Madame Web Star Dakota Johnson Explains What Went Wrong With The Failed Marvel Movie
Image
Thanks to Sony Pictures' largely terrible track record with its Marvel movies, most fans didn't have high expectations for Madame Web. So, when the movie arrived with 12% on Rotten Tomatoes and made only $100.3 million at the worldwide box office, it wasn't overly surprising.

Despite boasting a decent cast and a director with superhero experience in Sj Clarkson, very little about Madame Web worked. Eventually, it became a subject of ridicule and is now destined to be remembered as one of the worst superhero movies ever made.

Dakota Johnson led the movie as Cassandra Webb, and faced the wrath of critics and fans alike for what proved to be a...peculiar...performance. Throw in a pretty unhinged press tour, and the actor is lucky her career wasn't completely derailed.

Talking to The Los Angeles Times about Materialists, Johnson was asked about Madame Web and bluntly responded with a laugh, "It wasn’t my fault.

'Madame Web' Star Dakota Johnson Says Marvel Superhero Flop Wasn't Her Fault
Image
Dakota Johnson reflects on what went wrong with Madame Web, the 2024 Sony Pictures Marvel adaptation. When the plans for Madame Web were first announced, the film faced much trepidation. It was another in Sony Pictures' attempts to make a Spider-Man spin-off shared universe without the webhead. The film's trailer became widely mocked, and when the movie opened in theaters on Feb. 14, 2024, it became a box office and critical flop. It was only saved from the embarrassment of being the lowest-grossing Spider-Man spin-off thanks to Kraven the Hunter.

Speaking with People to promote her latest film, Materialist, Johnson talked about what happened on Madame Web. "It wasn’t my fault," Johnson said, laughing alongside Materialist director Celine Song. Johnson went on, hinting that the Madame Web film she signed on for was not the finished product and that it was tampered with by studio executives. Johnson said:

'Madame Web's MCU Crossover Plans Revealed in New Unreleased Popcorn Bucket
Image
Madame Web, the black sheep of Sony's Spider-Man villains universe, was meant to introduce a new group of web-crawlers to fight crime in New York, alongside Peter Parker (Tom Holland). Instead, it gave fans an endless wave of memes, quotable lines, and a future so-bad-it's-good cult classic. The film technically wasn't a part of the wider MCU, thanks to the complicated rights deal between Marvel Studios and Sony. But a scrapped popcorn bucket for the film has revealed how closely the two cinematic universes are linked.

The popcorn bucket was revealed on the aptly named subreddit, r/popcornbuckets. The person posting the photos claims to be a former employee of a movie theater, and said that the theater was sent the buckets and cups, before being told to send them back by the studio. Unlike the crazy popcorn buckets we see now, Madame Web's unreleased one is a standard shape,...

Sony’s Canceled Plan For Tom Holland: Dakota Johnson Was Supposed to Save a Young Peter Parker in Madame Web
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the biggest comic book-based film franchises of all time. Even though some films have missed the mark, the franchise remains widely enjoyed by fans and critics alike.

Sony, on the other hand, has been trying to kickstart its own Spider-Man Universe, given that it has rights to the character and all characters related to it. One of the biggest failures of Ssu, which sealed the deal for its demise, was the Dakota Johnson-starrer Madame Web. A critical and commercial failure, Sony’s original idea for the film looked a lot different than the final product, which might have saved the film.

Madame Web Star Sydney Sweeney Addresses The Marvel FIlm's Disappointing Reception: "I Had A Really Fun Time, So That Is All That Matters To Me."
Image
Over a year after the film's huge box-office failure, Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney revealed her honest take on the film flopping. In addition to Sweeney, the film starred Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Tahar Rahim. Boasting an abysmal 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a worldwide gross of $100 million per Box Office Mojo, Madame Web is widely considered a total failure. It also marked yet another unsuccessful attempt by Sony to emulate the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview, Sweeney unpacked her perspective on Madame Web's poor reception:

I mean, I had a really fun time, so that is all that matters to me. I think that if you are enjoying what you do, it doesn’t really matter what the outcome is, on a box-office level. Of course, you want the film to be celebrated and loved and successful,...

Spider-noir First Look Reveals Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir In Upcoming Amazon MGM+ TV Series
Image
With the first Ironheart teaser expected to be released tomorrow and Superman's trailer confirmed for Wednesday, it's shaping up to be a busy week for news.

As for Monday, we're kicking things off with an official look at Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man in Amazon and MGM+'s Spider-Noir TV series.

The wall-crawling private investigator has already been spotted in set photos, but this spectacular black-and-white image is like seeing the comic books—and 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse—come to life in live-action.

Cage can be seen striking an iconic Spider-Man pose and will clearly be able to shoot webs in the show. Whether Spider-Noir can right the ship for Sony after disappointments like Madame Web, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter remains to be seen.

It's interesting that this still has been presented in black-and-white because Spider-Noir star Lukas Haas previously said, "We filmed it in - I...

Sydney Sweeney Gives Fans Exciting 'Barbarella' Update
Image
Sydney Sweeney knows fans are waiting for her long-discussed remake of Barbarella, and the actress is hard at work on the film. In 2022, it was announced that Sweeney would star in and produce a remake of the 1968, Jane Fonda-led sci-fi cult classic. In 2024, director Edgar Wright signed on to direct and is expected to begin work on the film after his next film, the remake of The Running Man, which happens to star Sweeney's Anyone but You co-star Glen Powell.

Speaking to Empire Magazine (as reported by Screen Rant), Sweeney revealed that she was just in London for a meeting regarding the Barbarella remake. "I can't say too much, but it's really going to come together in a very, very fun and big way. It's a long process. I don't think people realize how long some things can take, but it's gonna be worth the wait..." Sweeney said.

Tom Hardy Gets Candid On What Happened With Spider-Man and Venom (& It’s Depressing)
Image
From the moment the first Tom Hardy Venom movie was announced people wondered: Would this version of Venom square off with Spider-Man eventually? After all, their only big-screen battle had been in Spider-Man 3, and that variant of Venom wasn't very well received. People were very excited... and then it never happened.

The closest fans got to an actual crossover was in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the multiverse movie that united three Spideys. In the scene, Hardy's Eddie Brock is seen drinking at a bar, but when he gets sent back to his own universe, he leaves a bit of Venom symbiote behind. Many people were convinced this would lead to something in the future, but years passed and nothing ever came of it. Tom Holland's Spider-Man also took a break from the MCU for a while, though he has a movie coming up, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Four Fanboy Flicks Bomb Out In Deadline’s 2024 Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament
Image
As Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament comes to a close, with the two most profitable movies of 2024 unveiled Thursday, we look at the movies that didn’t work. Streaming continues to be a wildcard: While traditional motion picture studios such as Disney, Warner Bros, Sony, Paramount and Universal rely on lucrative pay two and pay three streamer deals to catapult their slates into the black, those streamers who’ve embraced theatrical (specifically Amazon MGM Studios and Apple Original Films) have a clandestine metric as to how they evaluate a movie’s post-cinema success. By traditional studio P&l standards, some of those releases would be considered flops. Given that, Apple and Amazon are excluded from this year’s survey.

We first learned that a live-action Mobile Suit Gundam movie was in development way back in 2018 during the Anime Expo, and in 2021, we finally got an update when it was announced that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) would direct the project for Netflix.

Vogt-Roberts would later ways with the movie, and Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle was brought on to replace him. It's been pretty quiet on the Gundam front since, but we now have confirmation (Jeff Sneider first reported the news) that Sydney Sweeney is in final talks to play the lead role.

Plot and character details are currently under wraps.

Sweeney’s recent film work includes Madame Web, Immaculate and Ron Howard’s Eden. The highly in-demand actress also has a slew of other projects on the way, including AppleTV+ film Echo Valley alongside Julianne Moore, the Freida McFadden adaptation The Housemaid with Amanda Seyfried, Colman Domingo’s...

Tom Hardy Says Studio Politics Shut Down Venom & Spider-Man Crossover
Image
Finally, Tom Hardy weighs in on the Venom crossover with Spider-Man that never got to be. Venom originated as one of Spider-Man's most famous villains, and despite Marvel Comics' attempts to rebrand the character as an anti-hero and give him his own rich mythology, Venom is forever linked to Spider-Man in fans' minds. Ever since the release of Venom in 2018, fans have been hoping for some crossover between Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock / Venom and Tom Holland's Peter Parker / Spider-Man. Despite a promising tease at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage that found Eddie Brock transported into the MCU, the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home showed Venom transported back to his universe, with The Last Dance picking up that storyline.

Speaking with The Playlist, Hardy was asked about any plans to have Venom crossover with Spider-Man. Hardy spoke about how the Venom: Let There Be Carnage...

10 Plot Twists Teased By the Spider-Man Spinoff Movies That Will Never Happen
Image
Kraven the Hunterhas landed on Netflix, bringing home the last entry in the Sony Spider-Man Universe (Ssu). In six years, Sony released six Spider-Man-adjacent films in hopes of launching a franchise on par with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, after multiple box office flops and record-low critical reviews, the Ssu has come to an anticlimactic end, with no further movies in development.

Marvel fans won't shed any tears over the death of the Ssu, which many agreed was a terrible idea from the very beginning. Nevertheless, the franchise's demise left plenty of storylines and teases unfulfilled. While Sony's reputation with Spider-Man movies suggests that many of these plot twists would never have played out anyway, there are still plenty of loose ends that will remain frustratingly unresolved now that the Ssu is dead.

Matt Wagner's Madame Xanadu: Giving a background character her time in the spotlight
Matt Wagner
DC's catalog is filled to the brim with characters who haven't gotten their due in various forms, even in the comic universe itself. One of those characters is the fortune teller Madame Xanadu.

For decades, her origins remained a mystery with the character relegated to the background of other character's titles. However, writer Matt Wagner took this character and gave audiences not only her origin but more depth and characterization than any other writer before or since.

Let's explore the Eisner nominated series and what made it such a character defining run.

1. Madame Xanadu Before Wagner's Series

Madame Xanadu made her first appearance in Doorway to Nightmare #1, with her creators being writer David Michelinie and artist Michael William Kaluta. Madame Xanadu wasn't the main character of this comic or her following appearances in this title, but most of her defining character traits were introduced in this series, such as her being a powerful clairvoyant.

Netflix debuts the final Sony non-Spidey Spiderverse movie this Thursday
Image
Netflix brings Kraven the Hunter to your home this Thursday. Allow him to enter at your own risk, as this appears to be the film that killed not only Spider-Man but also the non-Spider-Man Spider-Verse.

Sony's Spider-Man films were, on the whole, a pretty solid group. They got much better once they finally accepted assistance from Marvel Studios, beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming. But those Spider-verse movies without Spidey? I mean, the first Venom was okay, but after that? Yeesh. And they got yeeshier as they went along.

Let me put it this way. The reputation of these movies is so bad that Netflix has been essentially dumping them onto their schedule. Venom: The Last Dance debuted on February 25th with little advance notice at all. The streaming giant did the same with Madame Web nearly a year ago, on May 14th. Both films performed much better on streaming than they did at movie theaters.

Image
Did Timothy Dalton initially reject the James Bond role?(Photo Credit – YouTube)

Since his debut in Dr. No (1962), James Bond has become one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history. Created by Ian Fleming, the British spy has been ruling Box Office for over six decades, evolving with the times while maintaining his signature charm and deadly skill set. Over the years, multiple actors have stepped into the role, each bringing their own interpretation to the legendary agent.

Sean Connery set the standard with his charisma, followed by George Lazenby’s brief but memorable stint. Roger Moore brought a more humorous take, while Timothy Dalton emphasized a darker, more grounded Bond. Pierce Brosnan balanced sophistication with explosive action, and Daniel Craig redefined the character with an emotionally complex edge. Among these, Timothy Dalton’s journey to becoming 007 was particularly unique, he was first offered the role in his mid-20s but rejected it,...

'Madame Web' Wins the Razzie for Worst Picture, Beating 'Joker: Folie à Deux' and 'Borderlands'
Image
With the 97th Oscars just days away, celebrating the best movies and performances of 2024, the 45th Razzies is highlighting the worst of the worst. Among the films nominated for Worst Picture, Madame Web took home the top prize.

Among the other films nominated for the Golden Raspberry for Worst Picture were the highly anticipated sequel (and highly disappointing), Joker: Folie à Deux; Francis Ford Coppola's bizarre Megalopolis; big-budget (and bigger bomb) video game adaptation, Borderlands; and the Reagan biopic with Dennis Quaid. But it was Madame Web that came out as the winner. Or would that be the loser?

RelatedIs Madame Web So Bad It's Good, or Just Bad?

Madame Web has become a hit on Netflix, so is the film so bad it's a good camp classic, or is it just another bad movie?

‘Megalopolis’ director Francis Ford Coppola ‘accepts’ Razzie by slamming ‘gutless’ industry
Image
Francis Ford Coppola "won" Worst Director at the Razzie Awards for his ambitious, self-financed epic Megalopolis. And he actually accepted the "honor," letting the Razzies and Hollywood know what he thinks about them in an unfiltered social media post. "I am thrilled to accept the Razzie Award," he stated, "when so few have the courage to go against the prevailing trends of contemporary moviemaking!"

Coppola, a five-time Oscar winner, continued, "In this wreck of a world today, where Art is given scores as if it were professional wrestling, I chose to Not follow the gutless rules laid down by an industry so terrified of risk that despite the enormous pool of young talent at its disposal, may not create pictures that will be relevant and alive 50 years from now." He said it was an honor to "stand alongside a great and courageous filmmaker like Jacques Tati who impoverished himself completely...

Why Wicked's Madame Morrible Doesn't Appear In The Wizard Of Oz
Image
This article contains potential spoilers for "Wicked: For Good."

If you saw "Wicked" and are familiar with "The Wizard of Oz," you've probably already drawn some connections between the two. You might know, for instance, that a couple members of Dorothy's famous crew have already popped up in "Wicked," albeit under different names. And of course, if you've seen the original Broadway musical, you know exactly how the two stories intersect, as the entirety of "The Wizard of Oz" takes place in the background of the show's second act.

Jon M. Chu's "Wicked: For Good," which is set to arrive in late 2025, will complete the story, revealing all of the larger Oz connections to those who haven't seen the play live. That includes the character of Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), headmistress of Shiz University. Madame Morrible doesn't appear in "The Wizard of Oz," which, of course, is mostly...

The series was then followed by multiple entries, with the PlayStation Portable (PSP) version being of key importance. The ability to play on the go and in cooperative multiplayer changed things significantly, and defined what Monster Hunter is today.

'The Boys' Star Jack Quaid Slams Sony's Spider-Verse
Image
Sony's Spider-Man Villain's Universe wasn't just the worst-named cinematic franchise of the 21st century; it was also one of the worst reviewed. The franchise includes Tom Hardy's Venom trilogy, as well as Morbius, the recently released Kraven the Hunter, and the infamous Madame Web. The franchise has received its fair share of hate online, with everyone from esteemed journalists to your grandpa asking what went wrong with Madame Web. Now, The Boys star Jack Quaid is piling onto the discourse in a hilarious new skit.

Most cinephiles know the Criterion Closet, the online video series where filmmakers and actors pick their favorite movies from the Criterion's esteemed Blu-ray and 4k collection. But have you heard of The Movie Cabinet? Jack Quaid was the first guest in the new, totally not a knock-off interview series by Josh Horowitz, and his time in the cabinet just got weirder and weirder.

Which 2025 Superhero Movie Are You Most Excited For?
Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Ma Dong-seok, Brian Tyree Henry, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, and Lia McHugh in Les Éternels (2021)
There was a time recently when movie theaters were absolutely jam-packed with superhero movies. The success of the MCU was a game changer for Hollywood, and seemingly every studio wanted in, with virtually all of them investing hundreds of millions into trying to create their own superhero franchise or shared universe. Yet, most recently one term has come up that has started to haunt Hollywood: superhero fatigue. In recent years, movies that seemed like surefire hits began to fail. The MCU had a few under-performers, including Eternals, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, and one all-out flop, The Marvels. DC had several flops of their own, including The Flash, Blue Beetle, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. And don’t even get us started on Sony’s Spider-Verse, with Morbius, Madame Web, and most recently Kraven the Hunter earning disastrous box office. Kraven only made $24.9 million domestically,...

Kraven The Hunter: Yes, Sony CG'd A Mouth And Blinking Eyes On A Still Image For A Scene In The Movie
Image
Kraven the Hunter has been another critical and commercial disaster for Sony Pictures, and there are many moments in the movie which became memes the instant it was released last month.

The fact Sony has delivered Marvel movies bad enough that they're the subject of ridicule more than scorn says a lot, and with Kraven the Hunter now available on Digital, another "Wtf?" discovery has been made.

As you may recall, Madame Web was widely criticised for its appalling use of Adr. The lips of many actors, though mostly Tahar Rahim's Ezekiel Sims, didn't match what they were saying and Sony seemingly came up with a unique solution for that in Kraven the Hunter.

Using a mixture of CG and, we'd guess, a hefty dose of AI, there's a scene late in the movie with Kraven and Calypso where the latter's face looks a little...off. They're talking about...

The nominees were originally set to be announced on January 16, but due to wildfires in Southern California, the announcement was delayed several times, eventually being revealed on January 21.

The nominees were chosen by 1,202 members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation, including movie fans, critics, and journalists. This year, many comic book adaptations received nominations, such as ‘The Crow,’ ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter.’

Several well-known actors, including Ariana DeBose, Cate Blanchett, and Joaquin Phoenix, were also mentioned, with Jon Voight getting a nod for his roles in four films. 2024 was really bad for superhero adaptations considering that the movies received eighteen nominations overall.

The Only 2024 Movie That Was Worse Than Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web: Razzie Awards Brings Immense Shame to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Legacy
Image
Last year was a mix of box-office hits and bombs, and one of the most unforgettable cinematic experiences was the failure of two superhero titles in the age of comic book films. Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web received a ton of backlash from fans and critics, while Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker: Folie à Deux fell flat on achieving the same critical success of its predecessor.

The Razzies Nominate Joker, Madame Web, Megalopolis as Worst Movies of 2024
Image
There are few awards shows more mean-spirited than the Razzie Awards, which each year join the awards season circus to ridicule the previous year’s most notable flops. 2024 gave the Razzies plenty of punching bags, as Joker: Folie a Deux, Megalopolis, and Madame Web were among the nominees for Worst Picture.

The other films rounding out the five Worst Picture nominees were video game adaptation Borderlands and Dennis Quaid vanity project/biopic Reagan. All five movies were also well-represented in additional categories including Worst Actor, Worst Actress and Worst Screen Combo.

Thanks to the brave heroes who vote for the Razzies, Jack Black received two separate nominations — one for Worst Actor after playing Satan in the Paramount+ original film Dear Santa, and one for Worst Supporting Actor as the voice of Claptrap in Borderlands. While the Netflix comedy Unfrosted didn’t make the cut for Worst Film, Jerry Seinfeld...
