In the end, while Gi-hun won, he wasn't happy. He knew he had darkness within him. Still, he hates, not just how the games exposed him, but how it took so many innocent lives. It preyed on poor, desperate people, making them do nasty things to each other. Squid Game Season 2 gives Gi-hun a chance to address the man who put him down that path: the Recruiter.

Elsie Choi, a film and TV development veteran who has worked for such producers as Dan Lin and Bruce Willis, has joined Los Angeles-based Cj Enm America as executive VP and head of scripted TV.

Cj Enm is a South Korean entertainment company that has produced content such as Oscar-winning film “Parasite” and popular Korean fantasy drama series “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.” Among the company’s recent productions are the romantic drama “Past Lives” with A24. It’s also the company behind the annual Kcon Korean pop culture conference and concerts held in downtown Los Angeles in August.

Choi most recently served as an executive producer on the upcoming 20th Television/Hulu TV series “Interior Chinatown,” based on Charles Yu’s 2020 novel of the same name. Taika Waititi serves as director and executive producer on the series which stars Jimmy O. Yang.

British presenter, broadcaster, filmmaker, author and historian, professor David Olusoga, will be presented with a BAFTA Special Award at the upcoming BAFTA Television Awards on May 14. The award is one of BAFTA’s highest honors recognizing an outstanding contribution to film, games or television.

“Seobok,” a rare South Korean sci-fi film with “Squid Game” star Gong Yoo, will get its launch next month in North America via streaming platform Rakuten Viki.

Licensed from distributor WellGo USA, the film will be available exclusively through Rakuten Viki’s Tvod service for $2.99. Rakuten Viki has exclusive rights for the movie for two weeks in the U.S. and Canada, from Feb. 1 to Feb. 15, 2022. Although the window of exclusivity is two weeks, the movie will be available for a full 60 days on Tvod.

Wrapping a months-long process, Endeavor Group Holding has sealed a deal to sell most of its successful production unit to South Korean media giant Cj Enm.

Cj is investing $775 million for 80% of Endeavor Content’s scripted business, according to the official announcement, with the equity valuation reaching $970 million.

Endeavor will retain 20% of the scripted portion of the business, in addition to keeping the non-scripted portion as well as certain documentary and film sales and financing consulting services. Endeavor Content’s Graham Taylor and Chris Rice will continue to lead the studio as co-CEOs. The two companies expect the deal to close in early 2022.

This acquisition is the largest M&a transaction for Cj Enm, which has also put money into Skydance Media and, more than a quarter-century ago, DreamWorks Skg.

South Korean entertainment powerhouse Cj Enm is eyeing a bigger role on the world stage, saying it will invest more than 5 trillion won ($4.5B) in content creation over the next five years. “New Year Blues” is based on the romantic one week of four couples who overcome different fears before the new year.

“New Year Blues” stars a plethora of K-Drama stars, including Yoo Yeon-seok, who had a successful 2020 after starring in “Steel Rain 2: Summit” on the big screen and “Hospital Playlist” on tv, Kim Kang-woo, Yoo In-na, Lee Yeon-hee, Lee Dong-hwi, Chinese film and tv actress Chen Duling (“My Left Ear”) and Yum Hye-ran, among others. Goblin is a fantasy romance story with just so much more to it than just that and is often rated a 10 out of 10 by most fans. Jim Henson’s 1986 classic fantasy film, Labyrinth, has achieved something that its initial box office performance would never in a million years justify: a sequel.

TriStar Pictures is set to take moviegoers back to the world of fairies, goblins and baby-napping glam-rockers who put on random musical numbers within the confines of enormously ominous oubliettes, with a sequel to Labyrinth now officially in the works, according to Deadline. Additionally, the studio has already found a creative team to tackle the project, tapping a director who’s put in work exploring appropriately labyrinthine fantastical worlds in Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. He’ll work off a script by Maggie Levin, who’s put in genre work on Hulu series Into the Dark and My Valentine, along with Go90’s Miss 2059.

It’s been eight years since the last film from Italian master Dario Argento, but we recently got the news he would finally be returning with a new feature titled Occhiali Neri (aka Black Glasses). The project would reunite him with his daughter Asia Argento, who would lead the film, following up their last collaboration Dracula 3D. We now have a few more details on the film, including a mightily enticing tidbit regarding the soundtrack.

David Ellison’s Skydance Media has received a $275 million strategic investment from RedBird Capital Partners and Cj Entertainment and Merchandising (Cj Enm), the studio behind the 4x Oscar-winning Parasite. All in, this takes Skydance Media’s value to $2.3 billion.

K-pop star and actress Sulli died at her home in Seoul, South Korea, Monday, The Associated Press reports. She was 25.

Sulli — whose legal name is Choi Jin-ri — was found dead by her manager, who went to her home after Sulli failed to answer several phone calls. A cause of death has yet to be revealed, and at the moment there are conflicting reports about her death.

Per the AP, a police spokesperson said there was no sign of foul play or an intrusion and that police did not find a suicide note.

Korean pop star and actress Sulli, a member of the seminal girl group f(x) that helped popularize the K-pop phenomenon, has died at age 25.

Her manager found her body on Monday morning in her home near Seoul, South Korea, authorities told CNN. “So far, it seems she killed herself, but we will leave all possibilities open and investigate,” a police official said.

The performer, whose real name is Choi Jin-ri, made her name as a child actress before joining f(x) in 2009. She left the group in 2015 to focus on acting but also continued to release music as a solo artist, including the single “Goblin” in June of this year.

As an actress, she starred in the 2017 film “Real” and in “Pirates.” She recently completed work on the TV show “Hotel Del Luna” for tvN, and was attached to “Persona” for Netflix.

A marriage between the gorgeously disturbing imagery Nicolas Pesce delivered via his debut The Eyes of My Mother and the surreally warped sensibilities of Audition author Ryû Murakami definitely piqued my interest as far as the former’s adaptation of the latter’s novel Piercing. This psychological thriller concerns new father Reed’s (Christopher Abbott) need to briefly leave his wife (Laia Costa’s Mona) and the baby he can’t stop himself from wanting to stab with an ice pick in order to find a prostitute with which to cleanse his dark thoughts of murder elsewhere. Maybe he’s a serial killer or maybe this urge is the culmination of not yet having put metal into flesh. Either way, his carefully laid plans will inevitably go awry so our voyeuristically perverted Gods may laugh.
