The movie is one of Marvel’s biggest upcoming projects and will be a massive crossover event bringing together heroes from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakanda, the X-Men, and more. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. It’s set to release in the US on December 18, 2026, with a follow-up, Secret Wars, planned for the following year.

Cumming, who first played Nightcrawler in 2003’s X2: X-Men United, hasn’t returned to the role until now. Back then, he stepped away because the long hours in the makeup chair were exhausting.

Alan Cumming is officially back as Nightcrawler, and he’s showing it off with some fresh behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Not only do the books look different, but it is up for debate if Agents of Shield is actually canon to the MCU. In the official timeline of the franchise, the series is not present, making its contents non-canonical and it having no place on the Sacred Timeline. For all the talk of superhero fatigue, recent box office numbers suggest the genre may still have plenty of life left. While the disappointing openings of Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts seemed to signal the genre’s decline, both Superman and now Fantastic Four: First Steps have opened solidly. In fact, Fantastic Four looks to be matching Superman’s launch from just two weeks ago, with early Deadline reports projecting a $120–125 million debut.

I’ll admit it—my predictions were off by about $30 million. I genuinely thought releasing two major superhero films so close together was a mistake, but audiences don’t seem to mind.

For some context: the first Fantastic Four film (the 2005 version) opened to $56 million, with its 2007 sequel pulling in $58 million. The ill-fated Josh Trank version managed only $25.6 million in 2015. So this new film’s debut is a major leap forward for the notoriously troubled franchise.

After chasing the elusive, once-upon-a-time success of the MCU for the past 6 years, Kevin Feige ultimately found it with Marvel’s first family. The franchise has now hit the golden pot at the end of the rainbow with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which takes a step back from the current timeline to travel back to the retrofuturistic past of the 1960s.

Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby‘s blockbuster success comes at the tail end of a long, rocky, and often backbreaking odyssey at 20th Century Fox with the Fantastic Four property. Despite the studio’s unrelenting attempt to reboot the franchise, F4 has always managed to bomb at the box office, each time somehow worse than the last.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently gave a promising update on whether Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman might reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Deadpool and Wolverine.

In an exclusive roundtable, which included Cbr's Sean O'Connell, was asked if he had talked to Ryan Reynolds about being in the upcoming Avengers movies, Doomsday or Secret Wars. Feige responded by saying, "There absolutely have been discussions. We're in touch with Ryan a lot. So the answer is yes." While Feige didn't definitively say if Deadpool would be appearing in the new Avengers movies, his comments certainly indicate that there's a possibility it could happen.

In 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine movie, both titular characters were finally brought into the McU's timeline, and this is something that Avengers: Doomsday is already planning to expand on. Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 premiered on May 21, 2025, and wrapped up another intense chapter. The emotionally charged drama is set in the beautiful Zauberwald retreat, located in the stunning Austrian Alps. Season two brought together new guests, nine of them (as the title says), and over the season, viewers saw the emotional wounds and flaws of each one.

Exclusive: UK indie studio HaZimation is rebranding as Atelier 11 under the sole leadership of co-founder Paula Crickard, following the recent exit of Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull.

The company works across feature films, TV series and video games. Under its new guise, it is positioning as a “boutique transmedia studio committed to shaping the future of storytelling across film, animation, gaming and TV series.”

According to the internet, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps is giving off serious Walt Disney vibes, and we’re not just talking about his pencil-thin moustache. While Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything, fans on social media are drawing a straight line between the MCU’s new Mister Fantastic and the man who built a kingdom with a talking mouse. A meme has surfaced on social media showing Pascal’s Reed wearing what looks suspiciously like Walt Disney’s wardrobe: thin tie, sharp suit, sweater-and-shirt combo… even the same smug-but-kind genius energy. Another chimed in, “Honestly agree, and with Tony Stark being Doom, it almost feels like it correlates.” The comparisons don’t stop there.

Marvel Studios is eyeing once again Windsor Great Park in Berkshire for a new filming location for their upcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday. According to documents submitted to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Marvel’s UK production company, For All Time Productions, has proposed constructing a set referred to as “Annie Reynolds’ house.”

This set is tied to the character Sentry, who recently appeared in Thunderbolts. Annie Reynolds is known as Sentry’s mother, a detail hinted at in earlier leaks about the film.

The proposed set would be located near Prince Consort’s Drive, close to the Windsor Great Park Environmental Centre. Construction is slated to begin in mid-July and wrap up by late September, with actual filming scheduled for a single day in August.

Disney made a big splash at this year’s CineEurope in Barcelona, with a full presentation of its upcoming theatrical releases. This was the first time veteran executive Andrew Cripps presented for Disney since becoming Head of Theatrical Distribution in March.

And he didn’t disappoint, especially with one of the event’s biggest moments, a closer look at Fantastic Four: First Steps, and some exciting teases about Avengers: Doomsday.

The event kicked off by celebrating the success of Lilo & Stitch, which has been doing incredibly well and is expected to pass $900 million at the global box office this weekend. It might even become the first $1 billion movie of 2025. Every seat in the theater had a Stitch plush toy that lit up along with the show, setting a fun and colorful tone.

Then came the big Marvel showcase.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in a parallel reality and features a version of Marvel's First Family that hails from a retro-futuristic New York City inspired by the 1960s.

The team will be front and centre in Avengers: Doomsday, and the expectation is that they'll become a permanent part of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Avengers: Secret Wars. We don't know exactly what the MCU will look like after that movie, but The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez believes the 1960s aesthetic will be a "one-and-done situation."

The scooper claims to have heard "great things" about The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and while that's good to hear, fans remain anxious about how these heroes will fit into the wider MCU.

A brand-new teaser has just dropped for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and fans got their first live-action look at Giganto, the team’s very first villain from the comics. Interestingly, this big reveal didn’t come in a regular trailer, but in a Little Caesars ad made for the film. The ad recreates a classic scene from the Fantastic Four’s first comic book, which came out all the way back in 1961.

In the teaser, viewers see Giganto, a giant sea monster, rising up from the ground just like he did on the original comic book cover.
