It is similar to other Lifetime titles such as Girl in the Closet, Girl in the Bunker, and Girl in the Box. The Girl in the... movies typically follow girls who are kidnapped under different circumstances.
In Girl in the Basement, Sara Cody, a 17-year-old girl, is trapped by her father in the basement of their home so that she won't leave when she turns 18.

A “very disturbing” true-crime movie branded “dreary torture porn” is getting released in the UK after six years.
Later this month, Paramount+ will add the film, titledGirl in the Box, to its streaming library.
However, it’s being noted that this film is not a new release and actually premiered on Lifetime in the US back in 2016.
The film tells the real-life story of a girl named Colleen Stan (Addison Timlin) who, while hitchhiking in 1977, is kidnapped and kept in a coffin-sized box for 23 hours a day.
When her captors, married couple Cameron and Janice Hooker, let her out of the box, they abuse her. Colleen’s ordeal lasted for seven years, during which time she was tortured and forced to sign a “slave contract”.
Having been manipulated by Cameron (Zane Holtz) into believing there were outside forces preventing her escape, she was finally encouraged to escape by Janice, who...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Season 2 premiere of “Prodigal Son.”)
Fox’s “Prodigal Son” picked up its tale of twisted family dynamics with the premiere of its second season Tuesday, an episode that revealed what happened in the aftermath of the bloody murder that was committed by Malcolm Bright’s (Tom Payne) sister, Ainsley Whitly (Halston Sage), in front of her brother in the closing moments of the show’s finale last spring.
It turns Ainsley’s crime, stabbing the evil Nicholas Endicott (Dermot Mulroney) seven times, has been covered up by serial-killer expert Bright with the help of the siblings’ serial-killer father, Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen), who walked Bright through the process of cleaning up his sister’s mess over the phone from prison, after Bright sent Ainsley away to protect her from what she had done, which at this point, she doesn’t even seem to remember.

Our boy is almost back!
After a first season that's so good it's killer, Prodigal Son Season 2 Episode 1 premieres in January, and we cannot wait to see what delicious drama the series has next.
Prodigal Son Season 1 Episode 20 left Malcolm, his family, and the team in some concerning positions.
Malcolm is facing the repercussions of a man's death, and he's protecting the real killer, The Girl in the Box.
Thanks to Endicott, powers that be relocated Martin to the general population.
An attempt on his life led to a prison riot, but naturally, he didn't seem too concerned.
Dani, Jt, and Edrisa's opinions split on whether or not their colleague was guilty of murder, but they also had to do their jobs.
Gil's life hung in the balance, and Ainsley, well, she's responsible for the shocking cliffhanger that had fans abuzz.
It's safe to say Prodigal Fanatics are highly anticipating...

Can Fox Please renew Prodigal Son already and put our minds at ease!
If we don't get a second season after this, it'll be a disgrace. Especially since Prodigal Son Season 1 Episode 20 was one of the best installments of the series to date, and it unquestionably left of us wanting and needing more.
Martin has a new apple of his eye, and it's Ainsley. In the words of Martin himself, when he uttered "my girl" with glee, it was quite a thrill.
The hour was everything you'd expect a season finale to be, as it gave us some answers and closure, but it raised the stakes and left many of our beloved characters in dire situations and shrouded in uncertainty.
Malcolm came face to face with the Girl in the Box, but he's risking his freedom to protect her. Now, without any concrete evidence to clear him, he's still on the hook for Eddie's murder.

Oh, Prodigal Son, consider me intrigued yet again.
The concern that the Girl in the Box mystery took an anti-climactic turn was premature. Good ole Martin put that to rest on Prodigal Son Season 1 Episode 18 after he came face to face with Eve.
We can only take Martin's words with a grain of salt, but he knows how to reel you in, doesn't he?
The hour was delicious on all fronts. The ballerina case was interesting with its twists and turns. It's a cutthroat world, so Javier's death was one of those cases where anyone could be a suspect.
It also had many noir elements to it that made it more engaging than usual. Fiona, with the pouty countenance and breathy tone, gave off a classic femme fatale or the Chanteuse vibe as the company's lioness.
She had the '40s/'50s style hair and everything. She served as...

We're making some serious headway with the Girl in the Box mystery.
The team members fell to the background during Prodigal Son Season 1 Episode 16, and Malcolm's personal, familial, and past life were front and center.
As suspected, Eve is related to the Girl in the Box!
Martin pulled a Martin and blackmailed Jessica and Malcolm into meeting his demands. He's such a wild card that you could never be certain he'd let Jessica go down for his stabbing.
Some time passed since the stabbing, and he was recovering at the prison. For whatever reason, Martin hadn't made his statement yet, though.
Martin wasn't going to turn on Malcolm. He's too obsessed with his son, and it's better to toy with his mind when he's outside of a steel cage, but it's hard to say if he would let Jessica go to prison.
He likes toying with her too, but it...
