Ghost’s highly anticipated new album, SKELETÁ, has arrived. The Swedish band’s sixth studio LP marks the follow-up to 2022’s Impera, and can be streamed below.
The album’s release comes 10 days after Ghost kicked off their “Skeletour World Tour” on April 15th in Manchester England, where they gave six songs their live debut, including four from SKELETÁ.

Prior to the album’s arrival, Ghost released three singles: “Satanized,” “Lachryma,” and “Peacefield.” A number of the songs on the album give off a ’70s arena rock vibe, in the vein of bands like Journey, Kansas, and Styx.
Along with the new album, Ghost have introduced their “new” frontman, Papa V Perpetua, the latest stage persona assumed by band mastermind Tobias Forge.

There’s no easier way to piss off a headbanger than by calling Ghost a metal band. As songs like the Abba-meets-Def Leppard “Spillways” and disco-leaning “Dance Macabre” have proven, they’re a pop group with a penchant for pentagrams. The Swedish band’s reliance on Satanic theatrics and elaborate lore—such as the way they represent a “clergy” bringing about the birth of the antichrist—can feel, well, a bit silly. But they possess the rare ability to write songs that, upon first listen, sound like familiar favorites.
Starting with 2018’s Prequelle, though, Ghost began drawing influence less from ’70s hard rock and more from ’80s Aor bands like Journey, and the transition hasn’t suited them. Their sixth studio album, Skeletá, suffers from wearyingly similar production, with vocals consistently at the front of the mix and the same guitar and synthesizer sounds repeated throughout.

Exclusive: Ryan Donowho (The O.C.) is set to topline Art of a Hit (fka Excelsis), an indie psychological horror film directed by Gaelan Draper that will begin shooting in France this month under a SAG Interim Agreement.
