Malcolm-Jamal Warner Was So Much More Than Theo Huxtable On The Cosby Show
Image
Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner died on July 20, 2025, while vacationing in Costa Rica. He was swimming off the coast when he was caught in a riptide and pulled under the waves. He was 54 years old.

Warner is perhaps best known for playing Theo Huxtable, the irascible, well-meaning, but mistake-prone teenager on "The Cosby Show" from 1984 to 1992, a role he would reprise on shows like "A Different World" and on a notable Earth Day TV special in 1990. He was a constant presence on TV throughout his career, however, and should be remembered for the breadth and depth of his showbiz career. Warner was one of the main characters on the short-lived drama "Here and Now" in 1992, and he hosted the kids anthology series "CBS Storybreak" in 1993 and 1994. He played The Producer on "The Magic School Bus" from 1994 to 1997. This, while appearing in single episodes of shows like "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "Touched by an Angel.

Richard Pryor’s Essential Albums Released as Box Set
Image
“This is a perfect time for Richard Pryor,” says Jennifer Lee Pryor, the late comedian’s widow. “I’m just very excited and happy that we’re getting this out there.”

She’s referring to an ambitious new box set from Rhino, bringing together seven of Pryor’s seminal comedy albums from his years at Warner Records.

Among the reissues on Richard Pryor — I Hope I’m Funny: The Warner Albums (1974-1983) are albums like …Is It Something I Said?, Wanted/Richard Pryor Live in Concert, Live on the Sunset Strip and Here and Now.

Several took Grammy Awards for comedy album of the year.

A fearless and searingly funny supernova of comedy, Pryor changed the face of stand-up by infusing social commentary — on racism, yes, but other societal ills like personal trauma and addiction — into his masterful comedic storytelling.

“There was never one before him and never one after,...

Amy Schumer is back with a new comedy, and she’s got a lot of familiar faces alongside her.

Now streaming on Netflix, “Kinda Pregnant” centers on a woman who has dreamed of settling down and becoming a mom, but life hasn’t had that in the cards for her just yet. So, when her best friend gets pregnant, she kind of spins out.

That spin-out includes using a pregnancy belly to fake her own, but of course, that scheme quickly goes awry. It gets very messy.

Here’s who you need to know in the film.

Amy Schumer in “Kinda Pregnant” (Netflix) Lainy Newton (Amy Schumer)

Lainy Newton is a schoolteacher who has always wanted to settle down and start a family, but she doesn’t have the best taste on who to settle down with. She’s played by “Trainwreck” and “I Feel Pretty” star Amy Schumer.

Luther: Never Too Much
Image
No list of the most recognisable, memorable and beloved singers of all time can be considered valid without the inclusion of Luther Vandross. So, it’s mildly surprising that it’s taken until now — almost 20 years after his passing — for there to be a definitive documentary about the life and legacy of the soul and R&b legend. Thankfully, veteran documentary filmmaker Dawn Porter is more than up to the task, carving out a celebratory space for us to revel in his timeless music while sensitively illuminating the man behind it.

Helpfully steered by first-person interviews with Vandross’ close friends and collaborators like Fonzi Thornton, Carlos Alomar and Robin Clark, we are first taken on a journey through how Luther learned his craft and refined his style. Cutting his teeth on the likes of Sesame Street — the archival footage Porter utilises here is sensational — coming up with catchy jingles for...

Sarah Jessica Parker: Net Worth, Age, Height & Everything You Need To Know About The Sex And The City Actress
Image
One of TV's most recognizable (and highest-paid) actresses, Sarah Jessica Parker has an unsurprisingly fabulous net worth. Parker started appearing in films in the 1980s, with her first major role being Rusty in Footloose. She continued to work steadily, famously playing the enchanting witch Sarah Sanderson in Disney's 1993 cult classic, Hocus Pocus. But it would be her role as Sex and the City's shoe-obsessed protagonist Carrie Bradshaw that catapulted Parker to the A-list. The wildly successful HBO show spawned two movies, and its sequel series And Just Like That is coming back for season 3.

Parker was born in Nelsonville, Ohio to mother Barbara and father Stephen, and she's the fourth of eight siblings. From an early age, Parker knew she wanted to act, and made her Broadway debut at age 11. Outside of her acting career, Parker dated Robert Downey Jr. from 1984-1991. In 1997, Parker married Matthew Broderick, solidifying them...

The foursome will produce for Mixed Breed Films alongside Norman Golightly at Dark Castle Entertainment. Neon International will represent the foreign rights and introduce it at AFM this week while CAA Media Finance will represent the U.S. rights.

Luther Vandross’ Cover of The Beatles’ “Michelle” Released: “Another Classic Song Has Been Lutherized!”
Image
Luther Vandross passed away in 2005, but unreleased music from the R&b icon was made available Friday — a cover of The Beatles’ ‘60s hit “Michelle.”

Vandross’ close friend and vocal collaborator, Fonzi Thornton, discovered the tape following the singer’s death when he visited his family to look through his music archives, unseen videos, cassette tapes, personal effects, stage costumes and more. He then moved the archives to a room in his apartment for safekeeping.

“I found two cassettes labeled ‘Michelle’ in his handwriting — [I had] no idea what it was [and then I] played it! I realized it was a beautiful rendition of the Beatles classic that had been vocally and musically Lutherized,” Thornton tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I played Luther’s version for Jeff James, A&r at Sony and Dave Gottlieb, manager of the Vandross Estate, and we agreed it was such a find. We decided to save it until the right time — which is now.

A ‘Severance’ EP Channeled Michel Gondry and Brit Marling for Sci-Fi Romance Debut
Image
“Severance” co-executive producer and writer Mohamad El Masri is channeling the Innie/Outie duality for his critically acclaimed directorial debut “Other Other.”

The 25-minute YouTube short film stars Sosie Bacon and Scoot McNairy as a couple who live parallel lives…literally. Myka (Bacon) and Spyro (McNairy) have been dating online for a year before they decide to meet in person for the first time — only to realize that they live in alternate worlds and can’t actually be together. More sci-fi than “The Lake House,” “Other Other” was recently named the Short of the Week, and writer/director El Masri credited his “indie film hustle” for getting the short off the ground.

“I’d worked with Sosie Bacon on a TV series, ‘Here and Now’ on HBO, that lasted for one season. I met Sosie working there as a writer. I sort of kept track of her career as it grew,...

Grey's Anatomy Stars Who Left the Show (& Where They Went)
Image
When a fan-favorite character leaves Grey's Anatomy, it feels like a stab to the heart. When it comes to medical dramas, Greys Anatomy is a household name and one of the few television series to elevate the genre. Fans have been watching Meredith Grey and the entire cast for the past 20 seasons, but it hasnt been without its fair share of losses. Several beloved characters left the long-running drama, some recently and some quite early.

Its safe to say that when a series runs as long as Greys Anatomy has, it tends to saturate the actors, and there comes a point when a character has reached the end of the line. Besides several major actors taking a bow for playing the character for too long, some Greys Anatomy stars had controversial exits that are still topics of discussion among fans.

Elliot Page Slams ‘Devastating’ Crackdown on LGBTQ Rights at Juno Awards
Image
Elliot Page criticized Canada’s rollback of LGBTQ rights on the stage of the Juno Awards in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sunday night.

“We are at a time in history where the rights of LGBTQ2+ people are being revoked, restricted and eliminated throughout the world, and the effects are devastating,” Page, a transgender Halifax native, said in a speech presenting twin singer-songwriters Tegan and Sara with the Junos’ humanitarian award. Page praised the work of the Tegan and Sara Foundation for 2Slgbtq+ youth, supporting health care services to youth programs. Earlier in the week, he said at BFI Flare, London’s LGBTQ film festival, that “30% of young people identify as LGBTQ,” referring to a survey released earlier this year about Gen Z adults in the U.S. “So I’m sorry, but this is not niche.”

“If the world was not so hostile to LGBTQ2+ people, we would see ourselves purely as musicians,...

‘Luther: Never Too Much’ Review: Dawn Porter’s Definitive Portrait of R&b Icon Luther Vandross Is a Grand Celebration
Image
When American soul and R&b icon Luther Vandross sang, he didn’t just produce beautiful musical sounds. He caressed and coddled each note with his famously velvety tenor voice, considering where to linger, when to whisper, or to gradually crescendo with an impeccable and ever-influential technique. In other words, he didn’t only sing, but created something ethereal, something that both pushed the form and felt like it gently poured straight out of his soul.

Considering the stamp he put on the American music industry, it feels strange that there hasn’t yet been a definitive documentary about Vandross’ unsung legacy until Dawn Porter’s “Luther: Never Too Much,” which had its world premiere recently at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. But that delay is perhaps fortuitous — after experiencing Porter’s loving portrait of the virtuosic musician, producer, and songwriter, you can’t imagine Vandross’ story being told by anyone else.
