Molly Gordon (Life of the Party), Rob Morgan (Just Mercy), Spencer Garrett (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Kirk Bovill (Vice) and newcomer Delante Desouza have joined the cast of HBO’s pilot about the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers.
Written by Max Borenstein (Godzilla), the untitled Showtime Lakers project is based on Jeff Pearlman’s nonfiction book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.
Executive producer Adam McKay is directing the pilot, which chronicles the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties — a team that defined its era both on and off the court.
Gordon will play Linda Zafrani, whose intelligence and savvy have earned her a position in the Forum Office, but the arrival of new ownership—Jerry Buss and his ambitious daughter Jeanie—requires her to navigate a complicated web of personal and professional relationships.

So many VOD-centric dramas call to mind the direct-to-video Blockbuster fodder of yesteryear that it’s actually refreshing to come across one that’s more reminiscent of a cleverly plotted TV-movie from primetime of the 1970s. It’s quite easy to imagine “A Crooked Somebody” airing as an “ABC Movie of the Week” during the Polyester Era with, say, Monte Markham and Robert Culp doing yeoman service in the lead roles and a good 20 minutes or so shaven from the narrative to allow for commercial breaks. On the other hand, it’s even easier to simply enjoy it as a satisfyingly crafted entertainment that doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but does take a few surprising detours from well-trodden genre paths.

"Think about the opportunity you're sitting on here." Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie crime drama titled A Crooked Somebody, the latest film from director Trevor White (Jamesy Boy). This film originally premiered back at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2017, but is only now getting a release this fall. A Crooked Somebody stars Richard Sommer as a man whose father was a minister, now working as a cheesy spirit medium. But one day he's kidnapped and realizes there's an opportunity: he sets out to become a celebrity TV psychic by solving the mystery of a high-profile crime in the national spotlight. The cast includes Clifton Collins Jr., Amanda Crew, Ed Harris, Gillian Vigman, Amy Madigan, Randee Heller, and Joanne Froggatt. This looks fun and twisted and interesting, maybe worth a watch. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Trevor White's A Crooked Somebody, direct from YouTube...

Clifton Collins Jr. has been one of the most exciting reliable actors in film and TV for decades, so it's been a whole lot of fun watching his star rise with the popularity of Westworld. Today we're happy to debut the new trailer for A Crooked Somebody, the new crime drama that looks to give the actor another plum role as as a murderer who kidnaps a psychic in the hopes of redemption -- but there's a problem, the medium (Richard Sommer) is a fraud, and he sees his unstable captor as an opportunity to become a celebrity …...

Exclusive: Clifton Collins Jr., who currently co-stars on HBO’s series, Westworld, has signed on to play opposite Lucas Hedges and Shia Labeouf in Honey Boy, which Alma Har’el is directing from the screenplay co-written by Labeouf.
Loosely based on the Transformers star’s relationship with his father, the pic follows a child star (Hedges) attempting to mend his relationship with his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father (Labeouf) over the course of a decade. “Honey Boy” was Labeouf’s childhood nickname.
A Quiet Place star Noah Jupe is attached to play the younger version of Labeouf.
Collins will play Tom, a strong-chinned ex-stuntman who serves as a mentor/big brother figure to the young star. He’ll also be seen in the upcoming indies A Crooked Somebody, with Ed Harris, and Lucky Day opposite Nina Dobrev.
