Just finishing this 12-part series. Since I have no previous experience with Russian culture or film I find this series to be interesting and enlightening. The depiction of Cold War era USSR is bleak to one who has lived in a capitalist society. As the story progressed I found it to be a bit histrionic at times. I was also baffled by the characterization of some people (men, especially) who were emotionally cut off and quite cold. Very scary society...big brother is always watching and someone is always willing to report subversive behavior. Enjoyable and educational despite the overall gloom.
Very unusual view of an atypical aspect of Soviet life. Fantastic story. A cast of great actors. Weeks after seeing, continue to think of insightful and clever scenes Was surprised in direction of plot in last couple of episodes. Suspect if appreciated a movie such as "Roma" would appreciate this series, otherwise maybe not.
Well I watched all 12 episodes and will admit to the occasional fast forward due to the awful script etc.
As the series was supposedly based on a true story I am intrigued as to exactly how much truth is in this effort as the script regardless of subtitle was beyond cheesey and at times ludicrous.
I am not disputing that the main character was attractive but in honesty no more than many models and certainly not to the point of every man she meets telling her she is most beautiful woman in the world the British diplomat was hysterical God forbid that was true.
Sadly the whole production was bizarre and not entertaining maybe better writer could do the lady justice this does not in any shape or form!

Perfectly said story about post-war SSSR. Great drama, I've enjoyed in every minute.
