Hasbro' completed Micronauts animated series was completed in 2020, but has never been released. Creator Eric Rogers wants to know the series' status, as it remains unexplained. Micronauts' failure to air is something of a mystery, with production being fully complete on the series.

Hasbro has completed 52 episodes of an animated series based on the popular toy line Micronauts but has never released it. Micronauts is a line of toys that were popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The storyline was fleshed out in a series of comics published by Marvel Comics, which took place in a dimension called the Microverse. In 2018, it was reported that Hasbro was developing a new Micronauts television series, but in the years since, the silence surrounding the series led many to forget it was even announced. Some assumed the series never went into development, but that was not the case.

Metallica frontman James Hetfield will step outside of his wheelhouse to act in the upcoming Western thriller, The Thicket, according to Deadline. Based on Joe R. Lansdale’s like-titled book, the film also stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Juliette Lewis. Hetfield’s role has not yet been revealed. Filming has begun in Calgary, Canada.

The film, which Tubi is producing, focuses on a kidnapping in West Texas. When a killer known as Cut Throat Bill (Lewis) abducts a girl, her brother hires a bounty hunter named Reginald Jones (Dinklage) to track her down.

Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Live‘s most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61.

Macdonald’s death was announced to Deadline by his management firm Brillstein Entertainment. The comedian’s longtime producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra, who was with him when he died, said Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but was determined to keep his health struggles private, away from family, friends and fans.

“He was most proud of his comedy,” Hoekstra said. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

Stacey Sher, an executive producer of FX’s Mrs. America, has struck an overall deal with the cable network’s production division.

The agreement, which is understood to have been signed last year, will see Sher develop new projects for the network and extends a first-look arrangement that began in 2015, before she became co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios.

Sher was a producer on Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, Steven Soderbergh’s Erin Brockovich and pandemic feature Contagion and recently reteamed with the latter to produce the 93rd Academy Awards.

On the TV side, she has produced series including AMC’s Into the Badlands, MTV’s Sweet/Vicious and Reno 911 as well as Netflix series Skylanders Academy.

Activision Blizzard’s “Skylanders Academy” has been picked up for a third season at Netflix, the companies announced this week. The first original TV series developed and produced by the gaming giant’s content studio, run by Co-Presidents Stacey Sher and Nick Van Dyk, is an animated collaboration with France’s TeamTO. “Our focus, really, is to continue to make family entertainment that is filled with adventure, humor and heart,” Sher told TheWrap of the renewal. Presiding over a roster of IP that includes the likes of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and more, Ubisoft is arguably one of the few video game publishers with the necessary resources to repackage those properties into cinematic blockbusters. It’s a strategy that the French giant plans to go all-in on, too, founding Ubisoft Motion Pictures to help foster the likes of Justin Kurzel’s Assassin’s Creed and a live-action spin on The Division.

According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the company is now “in talks with Netflix over a series.” Word comes by way of a Reuters report, though Guillemot stopped short of mentioning which of Ubi’s franchises are in contention for the small-screen treatment.
